In this episode we discuss:·      Junior shares his review of the Grammy Awards.·      Trevor Noah was a flop.·      Bad Bunny killed it with the opening performance that also recognized prominent Latino individuals (that largely went unnoticed).·      Bad Bunny was not recognized for the stellar impact he is having in the music business today. ·      The negative responses and reactions of such a large number of non-Spanish speaking people shows the struggle for Latino representation continues.·      Ben Affleck did not want to be there. We've all been there, right?·      The 50 Years of Hip Hop Medley was pretty cool, although incomplete.·      LL Cool J and Busta Rhymes were incredible.·      The medley did not include any Latino or White rappers.·      Harry Styles must update his fashion style.·      Beyonce was winning categories that should have gone to others.·      Is Beyonce's praise really deserved?·      Madonna looked ghoulish as usual.·      Junior enjoyed Sam Smith's performance in spite of the haters.·      We discuss the topic of body positivity.·      Congratulations to Joe Acaba who was selected by Nasa to become chief of the Astronaut Office at the agency's Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. He is the first person of Hispanic decent (a Puerto Rican) to hold the office. ·      Amanda Serrano beat Erika Cruz via unanimous decision to become the undisputed featherweight champion. She is the first Puerto Rican undisputed champion in boxing history.·      Chinese Spy Balloons are flying high over the US.·      The Captain shares his review on the new movie “80 for Brady”.·      Brady has officially retired.·      Super Bowl Weekend is upon us!- - -Send us feedback by emailing: feedback@outofthecavepodcast.comSupport our Sponsor – Crown Trophy of Cypress, CA by visiting: www.crowntrophy.com/store-22Support our Sponsor – LB Productions by visiting: https://www.lbproductionsny.com/Opening and Closing music by DJ Sted-E & Hybrid Heights. Show Notes for Lance Bush In the aftermath of the Challenger accident, the crew’s families came together, firmly committed to the belief that they must carry on the spirit of their loved ones by continuing the Challenger crew’s educational mission. Their efforts resulted in the creation of Challenger Center for Space Science Education. Challenger Centers use space-themed simulated learning and role-playing strategies to help students bring their classroom studies to life and cultivate skills needed for future success, such as problem solving, critical thinking, communication and teamwork. A not-for-profit 501(c)(3) education organization, Challenger Center reaches hundreds of thousands of students, and tens of thousands of teachers every year. In his own words, Challenger Center CEO Lance Bush explains what a Challenger Center is, and how each center provides inspiration, in memory and in celebration of the Challenger crew, to students all over the world. With over 40 Challenger Centers throughout the United States and in 4 countries around the world, more than 5 million students have been encouraged and inspired to pursue STEM careers. Students who attend range from pre-K up to adult, but focus mainly on middle school students. When a student attends a center, they have to work together as a team and as individuals to “overcome anomalies” during their “missions” in order to achieve success… Alumni often write to the centers sharing their professional STEM career success based on their experiences that began at a Challenger Center. Some alumni are part of the biggest space companies in the US including Lockheed Martin, Blue Origin, and NASA, and they pay it back- even as young professionals- come back to volunteer at their local Challenger Centers to impact future generations. Christa McAuliffe’s lesson plans (Teacher in Space Mission) were recently flown on board the International Space Station, where NASA Astronauts Ricky Arnold and Joe Acaba completed her lessons, filmed them and are now currently available to download and implement for any classroom! https://www.challenger.org/challenger_lessons/christas-lost-lessons/   Key Takeaways: You never know where inspiration can be found for young students, who may be the next people on the Moon and Mars. The impact of the Challenger crew; Christa McAuliffe, Gregory Jarvis, Judy Resnik, Dick Scobee, Ronald McNair, Michael Smith and Ellison Onizuka continues through the work of the Challenger Center. Classroom Adventures take the mission experience from the Challenger Centers and bring them directly into the classroom, and will be available in 2020! https://www.challenger.org/what-we-do/#classroomAdventures    “I think I have one of the best jobs in the world, all because we (the Challenger Center team and staff) get to see the mission fly, and experience seeing the students come out of a mission high-fiving,  then hearing teachers say they’re much more motivated and engaged in the related STEM topics presented in the classroom as a result” -Lance Bush, Challenger Center CEO   About The Challenger Center(s): About Challenger Center As a leader in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education, Challenger Center provides more than 260,000 students annually with experiential education programs that engage students in hands-on learning opportunities. These programs, delivered in Challenger Learning Centers and classrooms, increase engagement in STEM subjects and inspire students to pursue careers in these important fields. Challenger Center was created by the Challenger families to honor the crew of shuttle flight STS-51-L.   Casual Space Show BONUS Links & Resources:  Website: Challenger.org Facebook: @ChallengerCtr Twitter: @ChallengerCtr Christa’s Lessons: Challenger.org/christa STEM Resources: Challenger.org/stem-resources

As part of NASA’s Teacher in Space Program, Christa McAuliffe prepared lesson plans and lectures to beam into classrooms from orbit aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger. She, and the rest of the Challenger crew, were lost when the Shuttle broke apart 73 seconds after launch. This episode is about the lessons she had planned to perform in space, which now form an important part of her legacy. Christa planned six science activities, known as the six lost lessons, that were to be used as educational resources for students around the world. The Challenger Center, in partnership with NASA and STEM on Station, worked with astronauts Ricky Arnold and Joe Acaba to film these demonstrations on the International Space Station and complete these lessons. Emily, Matt, and Nick reflect on the Teacher in Space program, the lost lessons, and the impact McAuliffe had on a generation of students, teachers, and astronauts. You can find more information about Christa McAuliffe’s lost lessons, including videos, lesson plans, and other STEM resources at challenger.org.

*The mysteries of antimatter continue to puzzle physicists New super-precise measurements by physicists have placed new constraints on the differences between matter and antimatter. The new result improves by a factor 350 the precision of the previous measurement and allows physicists to compare matter and antimatter with an unprecedented accuracy. *New ways to determine the size of monster black holes Astronomers have discovered what could be an easy way to determine the size of a spiral galaxies supermassive black hole. The findings claim there’s a direct relationship between the geometry of some types of spiral galaxies and the hidden super massive black hole at their centres. *The origins of rich organic material on the dwarf planet Ceres A new study claims organic rich material discovered on the dwarf planet Ceres is most likely native to the tiny frozen world. The organics were detected by NASA’s Dawn spacecraft and were originally thought to have been deposited there by comet or asteroid impacts. *Dawn mission extended at Ceres NASA has authorized a second extension of the Dawn mission at Ceres. During this extension, the spacecraft will descend to lower altitudes than ever before. *Spacewalk terminated early Astronauts aboard the International Space Station were twice forced to undertake emergency repairs to one of their space suites during a scheduled spacewalk. NASA, astronaut Joe Acaba was just an hour into the seven hour spacewalk when NASA mission controllers noticed one of his safety tethers was frayed and damaged. *SpaceX makes it 15 launches so far this year A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket has successfully placed the EchoStar 105/SES-11 telecommunications satellite into orbit. The flight came just three days after the company’s last launch and is the 15th SpaceX Falcon 9 flight this year. *NROL-52 spy satellite launch A new classified spy satellite has blasted into space for America’s highly secretive National Reconnaissance Office.
