Terry McAuliffe (72nd Governor of Virginia and former chairman, Democratic National Committee) joins Chris Cuomo to assess the state of the Democratic Party and what went wrong in the 2024 election. From failing to connect on core issues like inflation, immigration, and working-class economic anxiety, to misreading the appeal of culture war politics and populist messaging, McAuliffe lays out why Democrats are struggling — and what needs to change. He and Cuomo debate the party's messaging strategy, Kamala Harris's political positioning, and whether MAGA's success stems from Trump's policies or his symbolic power as a disruptor. McAuliffe also shares his experience on the front lines in Ukraine and weighs in on what the party must do to win back Congress and move forward after Biden. Teagasc Kerry Dairy Ireland Joint Programme Demonstration Farm Advisor, Claire McAuliffe, and Programme Demonstration Farmer, Pa O'Hanlon, join Stuart Childs on this week's Dairy Edge to discuss pre breeding management to drive submission rate and ultimately 6 week calving rate for the next calving season. Pa first explains how calving has gone on the farm in 2025 and how he has delayed his calving start date over the last few years in order to better align with grass growth on his farm. In the past no matter how much quality silage he tried to have available, Pa found that he ended up feeding poorer silage to milking cows which was hitting his milk solids production so he has moved the calving date to try to calve closer to grass. This means that he has to achieve the 90% 6 week calving figure to get the best return from the herd. Consequently, Pa is ‘afraid' not to make the effort in terms of pre-breeding management as he can't afford to let calving slip. He went on to explain how he has a chart which is very visual for keeping track of cows coming in heat post calving and uses the same chart for tracking AI in the 1st 3 weeks. This chart helps him to drive his 3 week submission rate and then identify any cows that haven't been served as soon as the 3 weeks are past. He find this visual trigger much better than info on his phone as he would have used in the past. Claire then highlights the performance of the demonstration farmer group and gave examples of some of the effort they are putting into pre-breeding management to drive the submission rate once AI commences. She also pointed out that many of the farms had opened with lower covers than they should have and found that they weren't able to exploit the excellent grazing conditions this spring as much as they would have liked to. The recent uplift in growth has helped their cause and their action has ensured they now have adequate grass moving into the 2nd rotation. This needs to be a key focus for all of the farms at the end of this year to ensure they hit the closing cover targets so that there is adequate grass on farms in the spring of 2026. This is a major weakness at commercial farm level as pointed out by Michael O'Donovan on a recent episode. Grady McAuliffe's debut single "On the Edge" released on March 7th 2025 to worldwide streaming platforms through Pilot Light Records. The single was produced by McAuliffe with Ethan Isaac, Tom Stewart and Joel P. Kelley. It was recorded at Isaac's owned and operated Factory Underground Studio in Norwalk, CT and mastered by John Shyloski, along with many more songs to be released soon. McAuliffe performed at Daytona Bike week on March 3rd & 5th ahead of his single's release. "We were a hit with the beer drinking bikers in Daytona. That felt really good. When they like you, they really let you know it... and they let you know when they don't!" said McAuliffe. McAuliffe first found success with his song "All Time Low," which was featured in the Christmas movie for the television series "Heartland." It was during this period of writing and recording in Nashville TN that he first began to hear his songs recorded in a Nashville-country style; he realized what a natural fit it was to his style of storyteller-songwriting. Today he calls his style of music "northern country," a mix of Nashville Country and Alternative/Southern Hard Rock. "Rock or Country, we're an American band, playing music from the heart. People respond to that," he said. Here is the new video of On The Edge https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6VVr6XHoRgFor more on Grady log on belowhttps://www.gradymcauliffe.com/

Episode 357: On a sunny Wednesday afternoon, 21 June 1950, the tranquil tobacco farming community of Langton, of Langton, Ontario, was shattered by a violent crime that would leave an indelible mark on Canadian history. Joseph Herbert McAuliffe, a World War II veteran turned counterfeiter, walked into the Imperial Bank of Canada with robbery on his mind. In less than half an hour, two innocent men lay dead at the robber's hands, Arthur Lierman and William Goddyn, their bodies riddled with bullets, and a community was gripped by fear. For three harrowing days, Norfolk County held its breath as McAuliffe, armed and desperate, evaded capture in the surrounding woods. The manhunt that ensued would reveal a tale of tragic childhood, wartime heroism, and a descent into criminality that culminated in a botched robbery and senseless killings. As the story unfolded, it exposed the raw nerves of a nation grappling with questions of justice, redemption, and the ultimate price of crime. This week on Hashtag History, we will be discussing the 1986 Challenger Explosion. This was an absolutely tragic incident in American history in which the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded just 73 seconds after lift-off, killing all seven of its crew members. This incident was exceptionally devastating because one of the passengers onboard wasn't a NASA astronaut. Rather, a thirty-seven year old school teacher named Christa McAuliffe was onboard that day as part of NASA's Teacher in Space Project; an effort to get the American people interested in the NASA Program once again. But of course, the most devastating and most disturbing part of this whole disaster is the fact that NASA knew of a historic problem with the O-ring seals on the solid rocket booster and had received correspondence from the manufacturer that they anticipated that the launch would end in catastrophe. NASA had the ability to halt the launch, and yet, they refused, sending seven people to their deaths in front of millions of people (many of which were children who were tuning in as part of their school day on account of McAuliffe being a member of the crew).A special THANK YOU to our Hashtag History listeners -- Jeff, Christa, and Mike -- who so graciously shared with us their first-hand experiences of watching the Challenger explosion in live time. The beauty of flower names, time-thieving hedgehogs, the poetry of fertile earth, and the absurdity of English spelling - all appear in The Verb this week. Ian McMillan's guests are the poets Don Paterson, Zena Edwards, and John McAuliffe who's celebrating fellow poet Michael Longley - and we also hear a new 'eartoon' on the origin of words for numbers, by Stagedoor Johnny ( Richard Poynton).Don Paterson shares a brand new poem in which the speaker is a hedgehog who knows 'one big thing' - a big thing that challenges the way we might think about time. Don is also a musician, and a memoirist - his most recent book is 'Toy Fights' - described by the writer Geoff Dyer as 'devastatingly funny'. His award winning collections include 'Rain', 'Landing Light' and 'God's Gift to Women'.Zena Edwards is a poet and theatre maker who has collaborated with many different artists. Her passion for the natural world shines out in her poem 'Tincture' which she shares on the show, and which came about because of a project called We Feed the UK – which brings together spoken word poets from the climate science and poetry organisation Hotpoets, and regenerative farmers – coordinated by the Gaia Foundation. John McAuliffe is poet, and a director of the Centre for New Writing at the University of Manchester. He has published six poetry collections - and his latest - 'National Theatre' (Gallery) is out now. John celebrates the 'miniature but not minor' poem 'Thaw' by the Belfast born poet Michael Longley who died in January. And we hear another installment of a satirical history of the English language by Stagedoor Johnny - in which the letter 'U' has a crisis of confidence.
