David Gornoski starts the episode by making a stellar case that government, along with its system of indoctrination and coercion, is religion in its very essence. "If at the heart of the institution there is preemptive violence then the whole thing is rotten to the core." Joining David is Det. John Baeza who calls in to comment on the Duante Wright incident, the ongoing Derek Chauvin trial, and the real issue at the heart of civilian deaths involving police. The host of A Neighbor's Choice also comments on Mark Zuckerberg's intent to censor those who question the election results and Bill Gates remarks that we "don't have a choice" when it comes to government COVID shutdowns. Why do big tech bosses like Zuckerberg and Gates insist on trying to control our thoughts and actions? Also in the show, Detective John Baeza calls in to comment on the George Floyd footage and autopsy report. Was Floyd's death due to the pressure that was put on his neck? Former NYPD detective John Baeza calls in to comment on the disbanding of plainclothes officers in New York City and the Wendy's police shooting in Atlanta. Detective Baeza believes that the disbanding has nothing to do with reform and more to do with pandering to certain interest groups. On the Rayshard Brooks shooting, Baeza brings some attention to what would have happened if the stolen taser was used on the police officer charged with the murder. "As an officer are you supposed to stand there, get tased, and then have your gun exposed for someone to come and take it away?" Post by Skyler J. Collins (Editor). This episode features a talk by former New York Police Department narcotics detective John Baeza from 2019. He speaks of his conversion from drug warrior to anti drug war warrior. Harrowing tales of undercover drug buys!
Retired NYPD detective John Baeza joins the show to discuss the tragic killing of George Floyd and the riots sparked by that killing. "I think we're going to see repeats of this unrest," says John Baeza who claims that the problem is an increasing militarization of law enforcement. On the riots that have gripped the nation: "It just doesn't make it right to destroy and steal from businesses." The retired detective also grimly predicts that if this coercion-laced discord continues then there might not be any light on the horizon. Are curfews effective in stopping riots? Is there any evidence of 'institutionalized white supremacy' in the police force? Listen to the full episode for Detective Baeza's insights on these questions and more. My guest this week is John Baeza, and we discuss the three years he attempted to be a "libertarian cop". John is a retired member of the NYPD, where he was a detective who was assigned to the Manhattan Special Victims Squad. There he investigated and reviewed approximately 1,000 cases of rape, serial rape, sexual homicide, felony sexual assault, and child abuse cases. During his tenure there, he started realizing the pain and suffering caused by the war on drugs. He was reading libertarian books, and after that, there was no turning back for him. John became a libertarian. After his career with NYPD was over with, he became a Deputy down in Florida where he made a promise to himself: from that point on, he would be a libertarian cop. In this episode we talk about how that went for him and how it ended. John was also the head of security for the Ron Paul campaign! I, of course, had to ask him all about that as well.
