In this episode we will be looking at whether UK police should be routinely armed. There are cultural issues, cost implications and training abstractions to consider amongst many other factors. Dave Thomas, in his first monologue looks at why we as police officers wear emotional masks at work and why that is not good for us. The Thin Blue Line podcast in partnership with Policing TV, the leading policing media channel.
If you aren't familiar with how a gun operates... There is a small pin inside of firearms that is used to strike the cartridge in order to cause it to fire. The mechanics of a gun are so neat! While the firing pin is super small...and the weight of it is seemingly nothing... It has the potential to weigh even more. In a recent post shared by one of our Facebook Group members, the following was posted: "A DI asked his recruits how much they think the firing pin in their weapon weighs. Answers ranged from grams to ounces. Then DI instructed a recruit to hold out the firing pin as long as he could. After a minute the weight of the pin started to become uncomfortable. After 5 minutes, he had an ache in his arm and started to wonder how long he can go on like this. After a half hour his arm was shaking and began to feel numb and paralyzed. As time went on, the weight didn't change, yet it still became harder and harder to hold. The drill instructor says to the class, “The stresses and worries in this life are like that firing pin. Think about them for a minute and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and they begin to hurt. And if you think about them all day long, you will feel paralyzed – incapable of doing anything. You start to wonder how much longer you can go on like this.” (Time to deflect with humor). This Drill Instructor was definitely not a Marine Corps DI !! Must have been Air Force or Navy. (Time to be serious again)Remember to put the firing pin down. Talk to your battle buddies when you need to and don't hold everything inside. The weight of our jobs and life can and may become overwhelming. Please look out for your battle buddies, shift mates, response area partners, zone partners, bunk mates, etc." Wow! Tune in as Coach Ashlie Walton and Detective Walton dive deeper into this... And pull out ways that we can all apply the lessons here into our own lives. A parable is a super simple story that is told to convey a deeper moral lesson. In today's episode, Coach Ashlie Walton and Detective Walton discuss the parable about the blind men and the elephant. CLICK HERE for the children's version of this story. As the story would have it, each of the six blind men have a completely different understanding of what they believe the elephant to be. Former LEO Jordan Nelson finally gets to share his story on what happened in December of 2013 in Kansas City, MO while arresting a suspect that had just tried to break into a 92 year old woman's house and was high on PCP. The suspect although not attacking was not compliant and he swept his leg and a team of police officers arrested him in under 30 seconds. Unfortunately for the man he busted his lip while face planting from the trip. Several years had gone by, and Jordan had taken another job outside of Law Enforcement. A ambulance chaser law firm decided to pick up the case that had already been turned down by the 6 time felon. In his first time speaking out, Jordan tells his side of the story that was a NON-ISSUE for 5 years and even considered a textbook arrest during his career. Because of the rise in the Social Justice Warrior movement he was put under a microscope by local news and the ACLU that turned this case into a “police brutality” example. They ignored that the criminal had just tried breaking into a 92 year old woman's house and yelled he was God. The dispatcher messaged that he was high and disorderly. The rest of the story unfolds on the episode with a full explanation. We also cover the world of policing across the board and everything wrong in this country. We discussing the thin blue line and why it's important to also call out bad cops. On a lighter note we talk about my mustache compared to his beard as well.During our SHot Seat we discuss how to stop school shootings, thoughts on bad police, biggest threat to America and the Defund the Police movement. Lastly we briefly cover the work Jordan does in Counter Human Trafficking all over the world.I think, based on social media backlash we'll have to have a second episode on this one to ask some more questions, but I encourage you to check out this episode of #bluntforcediscussionThanks to the partners!Partnership with MONAT : For more information on their product line or becoming a market partner go to : BluntForce.mymonat.comThanks to @Bahnbreaker Slow Blend Whiskey https://www.bahnbrecker.com/and of course for My Patriot Supply go to PreparewithBTC.comPlease support this show as a patreon at patreon.com/bluntforcediscussion

Incident Debriefs are crucial at the Firefighters Podcast as we believe that knowledge learned from operational activity should be shared with not just all fire and rescue services but the wider sector where appropriate. This helps us to improve performance at incidents, cope with future changes in the operational environment, develop and innovate to provide the best service to the public and improve the safety of firefighters & other front line responders.Listen to every episode & Debrief ever made, get full access to discounts, insider info & support the ongoing work of the podcast by clicking HERETodays debrief is from an incident on the evening of 2nd November 2007 where four Warwickshire Fire & Rescue Service firefighters died carrying out their duties. They were fighting a fire which started on a single pallet inside an evacuated industrial building, in Atherstone-on-Stour. The debrief aims to be objective, open minded and fair. The main focus is on the operational learning from the incident and the events surrounding it.The events of that evening have had a profound effect on all involved, and it is the sincere hope of the firefighters podcast that this debrief assists in making firefighters and the communities they serve safer. Four firefighters were tragically taken away from their loved ones and colleagues that evening. We hope you take some learnings away from this incident.A big thanks to our partners for supporting this episode.William Wood WatchesHAIX FootwearRosenbauerDuty Crew CoffeePlease subscribe to the podcast on YoutubeEnter our monthly giveaways on the following platformsFacebookInstagramGet notified of each Podcast episode as soon as they come out by clicking HERE

Attention residue happens when we have shifted our attention from task A to task B and yet...we still find that there are traces of task A still popping into our train of thought. In today's episode, Coach Ashlie Walton and Detective Walton discuss ways that you can limit or omit attention residue. In doing this, we are better able to focus on each task at hand and reduce mistakes along the way. Do you remember the JUST SAY NO campaign that we heard a million times while growing up? It was drilled into our mind that we had the personal power to tell others no when it came to them trying to persuade us into doing something that impacted our personal health. Somehow, entering into adulthood made telling people no much more difficult than the peer pressure at parties. In today's episode, Coach Ashlie Walton and Detective Walton discuss ways that you can tell people no when they are sucking your energy and finally reclaim your personal power...all while feeling good about it! It turns out, there's an actual art to saying no! Tune in to discover how to implement this for yourself. ⩥ PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL ⩤ https://bi3xbvVont.ly/ CLICK HERE for our best-selling products: https://amzn.to/3xaG3xw and https://rdbl.co/3DIQVUC CLICK HERE to join our free Police, Fire, Military and Families Facebook Group: https://bit.ly/38w2e7r Check out our website and learn more about how you can work with LEO Warriors by going to: https://www.leowarriors.com/ Like what you hear?
