Putnam Republicans seize party line Putnam County Executive Kevin Byrne failed to get the support of the Putnam & Westchester Libertarian Party but succeeded in becoming its candidate. On Tuesday (May 26), Byrne and three other Republican incumbents — Clerk Michael Bartolotti and coroners John Bourges and Michael Nesheiwat — submitted petitions to the county Board of Elections with about 2,500 signatures, 1,000 more than needed to appear as Libertarian candidates on the November ballot. Unless someone successfully challenges the validity of their petitions before today's (May 29) deadline, they will be the first Putnam candidates to carry the Libertarian line since 2020. They will do so over the objections of the party, which said it endorsed Byrne's Democratic opponent, Brett Yarris, and never met with Bartolotti, Bourges or Nesheiwat. For Byrne, the benefit is clear. He earned an endorsement from Putnam's Conservative Party when he first ran for county executive in 2022. But this year, the party nominated its chair, William Spain, leaving Byrne with the prospect of appearing solely on the Republican line. In a triumphant Facebook post on Tuesday, he declared "broad support" from "Libertarians, Republicans, Democrats, Conservatives and unaffiliated voters all coming together around a positive vision for Putnam County." In 2020, then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo enacted a law restricting the ballot to parties whose candidate for president or governor received at least 2 percent (or 130,000, whichever is greater) of votes cast in the preceding election. That change cost the Libertarian and Green parties their guaranteed place on the ballot. Today, only four parties qualify: Conservative, Democratic, Republican and Working Families . Their candidates often file nominating petitions for independent parties, so they will appear on more than one line on the ballot, believing this will win votes from people registered with that minor party or those unhappy with the two major parties. Six years ago, Putnam Judge Anthony Mole, Carmel Justice Daniel Miller and then-Justice Camille Linson of Philipstown were the most recent local candidates to run as Libertarians. That year, the state reported 155 active Libertarian voters in Putnam, the last time it collected registration data for non-major parties. Byrne isn't a Libertarian, the Putnam/Westchester chapter said in a statement on May 18, adding that Bartolotti, Bourges and Nesheiwat had not asked for the party's endorsement. Yarris won the endorsement because "he's way more libertarian, and seems to be a straight shooter," according to the party, but did not file a nominating petition to appear on its ballot line. Instead, he will appear on the Democratic, Working Families and For the People lines. The Libertarian chapter's vice-chair, Bill O'Donnell, called Byrne's petitioning "despicable" in a post at Hudson Valley Digger, a Substack newsletter by David McKay Wilson. "He's trying to imply that he is Libertarian," said O'Donnell, who lives in Philipstown. "He's not at all a Libertarian. He is trying to trade on our name. It's very underhanded." But another Libertarian, Jeffrey Chang of Carmel, said in a letter circulated to news organizations that he backed Byrne. As a party that supports small government, Yarris' "big government ideas turn true Libertarians, such as myself, off," said Chang. "If someone wants the Libertarian Party line on the ballot, and the support of the party, you do the work to earn it. Byrne did it, and his tax-cutting record backs it up." Several other Republicans in Putnam filed petitions to run as Libertarians: Christian Russo, who hopes to replace Bill Gouldman as the District 2 legislator representing most of Putnam Valley; Gouldman, who is seeking the Putnam Valley supervisor seat; and Robert Nachamie, who is running for Putnam Valley town justice. Several Democratic candidates also beat the Tuesday deadline to submit nominating petitions for an independent line. ...

Nate went to the Libertarian National Convention and came back exhausted, frustrated, and convinced the LP has a serious problem. This is his eyewitness breakdown of the convention chaos, the LPNH fight, the rubber chicken heckling, the property rights dispute, and why national LP politics keeps failing liberty. The Libertarian Party should be focused on real-world freedom, lower taxes, less war, property rights, and reducing government power. Instead, Nate argues the convention exposed constant infighting, procedural fights, faction battles, and a party more focused on controlling the "libertarian" brand than winning liberty for actual people. Three of Oregon's minor parties weigh in on the state of democracy under two-party system

The near total dominance of the two major political parties is nothing new. Democrats and Republicans have distinct ideological and political differences, but for some, it’s their similarities that drive them away from both.  Many voters are not affiliated with any party. In fact, those unaffiliated voters number more than either of the major parties by a substantial margin. Most of the remaining registered voters are members of the other minor parties: The Independent Party, the Constitution party, the Libertarian Party, No Labels, the Pacific Green Party, the Progressive Party, We the People Party and the Working Families Party.   In next week’s Oregon Primary, all voters will be sent ballots that include local and state candidates for nonpartisan offices and measures. But for those who are unaffiliated or a member of a minor party, no partisan candidates will appear, and they cannot vote for any of the major party candidates. Minor parties do not have their primary process funded by taxpayers, as the two major parties do.   A public opinion survey from January 2026 by DHM Research showed significant frustration with both major parties. And a recent national survey of voter opinions of Congress indicated contempt for both Democrats and Republicans. But what does all this mean for minor parties, if anything?   We ask representatives from three of those minor parties to share how they think two-party rule is working for the electorate at large and what changes they’d like to see to include more voters more often. Our guests are Annie Naranjo-Rivera with the Oregon Working Families Party, Sonja Feintech with the Libertarian Party of Oregon and Sal Peralta with the Independent Party of Oregon.

Then: Rubio quoted Cypress Hill and started a 2028 primary nobody announced. Vance was in Iowa explaining a war he privately opposed. We run both men through the libertarian nationalist scorecard. Jeremy Kauffman — blockchain entrepreneur and LP of New Hampshire chairman — joins to answer whether a party with no senators, no governors, and a peak of three percent still deserves to exist. The national LP censured his state party. He endorsed Trump anyway. And Maggie Anders, Young Voices Commentator, breaks down Spencer Pratt's run for Mayor of LA — second place in a fourteen-candidate field, Joe Rogan's backing, a viral Gotham ad, and five weeks to the June 2nd primary. The Southern Poverty Law Center has been federally indicted on wire fraud, bank fraud, and money laundering charges. The DOJ alleges they secretly funneled more than three million dollars to operatives inside the KKK, the Aryan Nations, the National Alliance, and the National Socialist Movement -- while using their hate map to get conservative and Christian organizations deplatformed, debanked, and destroyed. One of their paid operatives was in the leadership chat group that planned the 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville. Biden's DOJ opened the investigation and closed it. Trump's DOJ reopened it. Now it's a grand jury indictment. We have the full breakdown -- the Charlottesville detail the media is burying, the Big Tech angle nobody else is running, and the question of who in Biden's DOJ decided this file wasn't worth pursuing. Then -- the science of fatherhood that the culture does not want you to hear. Today's Headlines: The Trump administration is facing growing bipartisan backlash over aggressive ICE enforcement following recent shootings in Minnesota. Texas Governor Greg Abbott said the federal government needs to “recalibrate” its approach, while Republican Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Chris Madel dropped out of the race, calling the immigration operation an “unmitigated disaster” and condemning what he described as racial profiling. The criticism has spread beyond Democrats, with the Libertarian Party calling for ICE to be abolished and the Wall Street Journal editorial board urging ICE to pause operations in Minnesota. Amid mounting pressure, the administration demoted Customs and Border Protection official Greg Bovino and reassigned ICE personnel out of Minneapolis, signaling a temporary de-escalation. Border czar Tom Homan has been sent to oversee the situation as Trump publicly emphasized cooperation with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. New reporting raises concerns about ICE activity elsewhere, including allegations that agents in Colorado left so-called “death cards” in vehicles after detentions. Separately, documents reveal ICE is using a Palantir-built surveillance tool to map neighborhoods for immigration raids using data from multiple federal agencies. Internationally, Trump said negotiations with Iran remain “in flux” as the U.S. increases its military presence in the region. Israel confirmed the return of the final hostage's remains, allowing the Gaza ceasefire to move toward its next phase. Trump also announced higher tariffs on South Korean imports, cited the use of a secret weapon in the raid that captured Venezuela's Nicolás Maduro, and commented on allegations that a top Chinese general leaked nuclear secrets to the U.S. Meanwhile, a massive winter storm across 19 states has been linked to at least 22 deaths, with hundreds of thousands still without power. Congress is also racing to avoid a potential government shutdown tied to funding for the Department of Homeland Security and ICE oversight. Patent attorney turned leading anarchist legal theorist   Author of Against Intellectual Property and Legal Foundations of a Free Society   Recent Vegas trip with Adam: helicopter into the Grand Canyon, Venetian St. Mark's Square (tacky but awesome) 2:59 – Introducing “The Universal Principles of Liberty” (TUPoL) A one-page, elegant, civil-law-style statement of libertarian metanorms   Not a constitution, not a detailed legal code – a foundational layer that private legal systems can build upon   Voluntary opt-in document: you must explicitly sign on to be bound   Purpose: foster conflict-free interaction through reason, experience, and ethics – no state decree, no majority vote 5:09 – Origin Story: From Liberland → Bir Tawil → Universal Principles Stephan helped draft Liberland's early (still statist) constitution but was uneasy as an anarchist   Long history of libertarian startup-country projects (Seasteading, Atlantis, Prospera, etc.)   Max (FreeMax) approached Stephan about Bir Tawil (unclaimed land between Egypt & Sudan) and wanted principles instead of a state   Co-drafters: Hans-Hermann Hoppe, Alessandro Fusillo, David Dürr, Pat Tinsley 9:16 – Why This Document Now? Refinement of 30+ years of libertarian legal theory (Rothbard, Hoppe, Kinsella)   Earlier concise restatement now in the Libertarian Party platform (plank 2.1/2.2)   Goal: a short, uncontroversial, legally precise statement that any free society can point to 11:40 – Key Features & Definitions “Person” = any sentient being capable of moral agency (includes possible AGI/aliens, excludes animals)   Rights are exclusively property rights in scarce physical resources (no “right to life,” no IP)   Self-ownership is primary and inalienable (the Walter Block voluntary-slavery debate settled against alienability)   Body rights can only be forfeited by committing aggression (proportional punishment/restoration justified) 20:01 – Freedom is a Consequence, Not a Primary Right No need for enumerated positive rights (speech, religion, warm baths)   All legitimate freedoms flow from property rights in body and external resources 23:25 – Why Self-Ownership is Inalienable (and Walter Block is wrong) Body ownership arises from direct embodiment/control, not homesteading   You can abandon or sell homesteaded external resources; you cannot abandon “you”   Contracts are title transfers, not enforceable promises 29:12 – Punishment, Outlaws, and Estoppel Aggressors implicitly consent to proportional defensive/enforcement force   No need for prior signed contract with an outlaw – committing aggression waives the right to complain 34:26 – Weapons of Mass Destruction Clause (Article 8) Indiscriminate devices that cannot be aimed solely at aggressors are legitimately restrictable   Practical insurance/neighborhood covenants would handle most cases anyway 37:39 – Evidentiary Standards Borrowed from Tradition Severe remedies require heightened standards (e.g., beyond reasonable doubt, jury nullification rights)   Roman & common law are largely libertarian and will serve as starting points 40:41 – Select Unjust Laws & Aspirational Closing Explicitly lists taxation, IP, conscription, etc. as unjust   Beautiful final paragraph: “We bow to no state… no power on earth will stop us” (mostly written by Max) 42:47 – Why Law Must Develop Organically (Quote from Stephan's blog) Detailed armchair legal codes are premature and counterproductive   Law evolves case-by-case through real disputes, custom, and decentralized courts 47:58 – Deep Dive: “Selling Does Not Imply Ownership” & Misesian Dualism Crucial distinction between possession/control (causal/economic) and legal ownership (normative)   Robinson Crusoe has possession but no ownership   Labor/services are not ownable – employment contracts are conditional title transfers of money, not sales of “labor”   Confusing the two realms leads to the fallacious justification for intellectual property 1:06:20 – Free Will, Compatibilism, and Scientism In the causal realm there is no free will (no downward causation)   In the teleological realm of human action we unavoidably treat people as purposeful choosers   Stephan's “Misesian compatibilism” – both views are correct in their respective domains 1:16:53 – Closing & Future Plans Stephan will push to have TUPoL incorporated into the final Liberland Constitution (to the extent compatible)   Next big project: new comprehensive book on IP/copyright titled Copy This Book   Where to find everything: stephankinsella.com | Universal Principles of Liberty poster & text freely available Links   The Universal Principles of Liberty full text & poster: https://www.stephankinsella.com/principles/   Stephan's blog announcement: https://stephankinsella.com/2025/08/announcing-the-universal-principles-of-liberty/   Adam's original Substack post: https://hamannature.substack.com/p/kinsellas-legal-treatise-on-universal Enjoy the episode and go read (and sign!) the Universal Principles of Liberty! It's Tuesday, October 28th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson South African government regulating churches Earlier this month, the South African government agency, known as the Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Rights Commission, launched a committee to regulate churches in the country. The new committee will most likely make determinations as to “what qualifies as a religion,” who may be recognized as a religious leader, and where churches may worship. The concern is also that this governmental power would force churches to come under State-approved umbrella bodies. The nation's churches have scheduled a march to the Parliament building in Cape Town, the capital of South Africa, on November 13th. South Africa rejects self-defense as reason to own a gun The South African Parliament is also considering additional restrictions on firearms to remove “self-defense” as a valid reason to own a gun. This would remove meaningful protection for families, farms, and churches from violent criminals, in one of the most violent nations on Earth. The Communists and the left-leaning African National Congress have 51% control of the South African parliament. Turmoil in Chinese Communist Party The Chinese Communist government is still in turmoil. At this moment, 38 of the 205 members of the central committee failed to appear for the big Plenum session last week. Of the 33 generals on the Committee, 22 were missing. Trump to meet with Chinese president Xi Jinping on Asian tour President Donald Trump met with Japan's newly elected Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi yesterday. This week, he will move on to high level meetings in South Korea and China, with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday.  The White House announced that President Trump has signed historic peace deals with Cambodia and Thailand, trade deals with Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam, and minerals deals with Malaysia and Thailand. Javier Milei's mid-term election triumph in Argentina The results for Argentina's mid-term elections are in.  And Javier Milei's Libertarian Party crushed it, reports Reuters. Now, Milei's party has 41% control of the legislature which is up from 26% in 2023. The left wing party dropped off from 44% to 32% which is an 11% decline. Milei's agenda will have stronger legislative backing for more reforms in tax reduction and deregulation of business for the country. Bolivia rejects socialism And, by God's sovereign order of things, Bolivia has a new president as of last week, reports CBS News. Rodrigo Paz is more centrist — a change after 20 years of socialism in this mountainous country of South America. Not surprisingly, socialist countries like Venezuela and Bolivia are the poorest countries in all of South America. King Charles III glorified sodomy King Charles III of England glorified homosexuality yesterday by placing flowers at a newly constructed memorial to homosexuals serving in the nation's military, reports The Times. Prince Charles's mentor and uncle, Lord Louis Mountbatten, served as Britain's Chief of Defense in the 1960s, and was reported in 2019 as “a homosexual with a perversion for young boys.” King Charles III joined Pope Leo XIV for worship King Charles III made other news headlines last week, when he participated in a public worship service with the Roman Catholic Pope Leo XIV.   This was the first time a reigning British monarch joined the Pope for such events since the Reformation. King Charles and his wife, Camilla, sat on golden thrones under Michelangelo's "Last Judgment" fresco in the Sistine Chapel for the ecumenical service.  Joel 3 reminds us of God's judgement.   “Let the nations be wakened, and come up to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; For there I will sit to judge all the surrounding nations. Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, go down; for the winepress is full, the vats overflow — for their wickedness is great.” Putin celebrates successful test of missile Russian President Vladimir Putin celebrated a successful test for the Burevestnik missile over the weekend, reports CBS News. Putin announced that the armament was ready for deployment, after it completed a 10,000-mile flight. Plus, according to the Russian military, the missile “successfully performed all designated vertical and horizontal maneuvers, demonstrating its strong ability to evade anti-missile and air defense systems.” Hurricane Melissa: Biggest one to hit Caribbean Category 5 Hurricane Melissa is barreling down on Jamaica. It's the strongest hurricane to hit the Caribbean nation in recorded history.  America's most lethal aircraft carrier off Venezuelan coast Meanwhile, the U.S. Military is sending its most lethal aircraft carrier from European waters into the Caribbean for the ongoing drug war, now heating up somewhere off the shores of Venezuela, reports TheHill.com. The main target for the flurry of activity appears to be Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, whom the Trump administration has called an “illegitimate leader.” Appearing on CBS's Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina was asked about possible land strikes in Venezuela. BRENNAN: “Are land strikes planned?” GRAHAM: “Yeah, I think that's a real possibility. I think President Trump's made a decision that [Venezuelan President Nicolás] Maduro, the leader of Venezuela, is an indicted drug trafficker, that it's time for him to go. Venezuela and Colombia have been safe havens for ‘narco terrorists' for too long.” Oil likely will cost less in 2026 America's oil wells are pumping it out.   Chevron CEO Mike Wirth told Fox Business host Maria Bartiroma, that gas prices in 2026 may very well be lower than they were this year. BARTIROMA: “Can you give us a sense of what you would expect for 2026?” WIRTH: “Yeah, I think we see supply growing, particularly from the OPEC-supplying countries, and demand growing steadily. But as this supply comes back, it's weighing on commodity markets. So, we're prepared for prices in ‘26 to be lower than they were in ‘25.” Christian pastors arrested for child p*rn And finally, assorted national news stories report that Christian pastors and leaders have been recently arrested for possession of extreme evil forms of pornography involving children.   Singer and worship leader Jon Paul Sheptock, of First Montgomery Baptist Church, is under arrest, reports the Baptist Press.  The Idaho Statesman reports that the senior pastor at Sovereign Grace Fellowship in Nampa, Idaho was arrested for handling images of a “horrific” nature. Another Baptist youth pastor from Greenville, South Carolina was just sentenced to twenty years for a similar offense. A pastor of the House of Prayer Christian Church in Georgia has been indicted by a federal court for similar offenses. And another former youth pastor at the Southcoast church in Goleta, California has been arrested on related charges. Jeremiah speaks of religious scandals in the churches. The prophet wrote, “My heart within me is broken because of the prophets. . . For the land is full of adulterers; For because of a curse the land mourns. The pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up. Their course of life is evil, and their might is not right. “For both prophet and priest are profane; Yes, in My house I have found their wickedness,” says the Lord. I will bring disaster on them, the year of their punishment.” (Jeremiah 23:9-12) Close And that's The Worldview on this Tuesday, October 28th, in the year of our Lord 2025. Follow us on X or subscribe for free by Spotify, Amazon Music, or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus (Adam@TheWorldview.com). Justin Stapley and I have been on similar journeys these past many years seeking to better understand our worldviews and the ever-changing political moment and how best to restore sanity and integrity to our politics. But while I've been diligently producing podcast episodes for these past seven years, Justin has launched a dizzying array of projects. In his own words: There's an ongoing joke between myself and @svngelephants that every time I'm on his podcast, I've rebranded. And he's not necessarily wrong, lol. Here's the various blogs and efforts I've done since 2016... Never Tyranny was my first anonymous blog in 2016. I started writing while I was briefly working in the Global Services Center for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as I was transitioning from one police agency to another. Very much a 2016-esque #NeverTrump blog, with the moniker "Never Hillary, Never Trump, Never Tyranny." I was inspired to start writing after reading the "Against Trump" issue of National Review, an issue that also introduced me to a host of writers, most of them at @NRO at that time, that I continue to read to this day, such as @JonahDispatch, @DavidAFrench, KD Williamson, @EWErickson, and @jpodhoretz. As you can tell from the borrowed image from "Washington's Spies," this first blog was very unpolished as I kind of stumbled my toward becoming a better political writer. While this blog never really took off, I did get a small bump when Rush Limbaugh used the term "Never Tyranny" on his show, though he didn't use it in a anti-Trump context. After Donald Trump's 2016 victory, I wanted to transition to an anonymous identity that was positive and forward thinking, that was about what I was for as opposed to what I was just against. In my hopes that the Trump presidency would lead to a broader re-embrace of federalism across the spectrum, I chose to name my new blog "The Millennial Federalist" and began writing under this moniker in 2017. This blog was far more widely read than Never Tyranny was, and was well known among certain segments of the 2017 #NeverTrump movement. This blog became particularly attached to the short lived Federalist Party effort and it's mildly popular #FedUp hashtag, as well as to @RealFedCo (now defunct), where I first released articles under my real name. Sometime in 2018 and 2019, I decided I wanted to create a more collaborative effort and create a blog where liberty-minded conservatives could post articles and engage in debate and dialogue. My idea at the time was that libertarians and NeverTrump conservatives could come together and throw their weight behind a a candidate who could attempt to challenge Trump in the 2020 GOP primary and pivot to either an independent candidacy or get on the Libertarian Party ticket. This idea became what I chose to call the Liberty Hawk. Within the blog, I wrote under my own name and then hosted any other writers who wanted to be published there. (This effort was when I first became acquainted with @ConservaMuse, who published several articles at The Liberty Hawk in his senior year of high school). While my vision for a "fusion" candidate in 2020 came close to realization with @justinamash, the idea was thwarted both by Libertarians who refused to work with "statist" conservatives and by NeverTrump personalities and organizations who felt a strong third option would risk undermining Joe Biden. It was at this point that I broke from #NeverTrump because I didn't want to belong to an effort that boosted Democrats. Self-Evident was a moniker I used twice. First as my next effort after I transitioned away from The Liberty Hawk and then for the last year or so as well. In my frustration with the direction the #NeverTrump effort had taken, I pivoted in mid-2020 to the idea that I would involve myself less in direct political activism and instead focusing on illuminating the "self-evident" truths and first principles of free government. This was also when I began my first podcast, also called Self-Evident, but I only released episode intermittently, adding up to only 15 episodes over the course of several years. I blogged at Self-Evident and engaged online throughout 2022-2023 even while deployed to Kuwait and Syria with the Idaho National Guard. During my deployment, I completed by Bachelor's degree and envisioned returning home and starting a 501(c)3 with an associated publication. I attempted to follow through on this idea by founding and leading The Freemen Foundation and establishing The Freemen News-Letter. For a little over a year, I we published tremendously relevant and high quality articles from many figures across the conservative intellectual community. During most of this time, I worked full-time as the founding director and president of the foundation, and as editor in chief of the news-letter, but was only mildly compensated as we ran into the difficult realities of securing funding for such an audacious project. I chose to wrap up the effort late last year because I felt the excellent writers of the effort deserved compensation and deserved to have their articles more widely read. I also had returned to college to complete a Master's degree and could no longer commit the kind of time I had been committing. And that brings us fully up to date with my newest project, The Conservative Underground. Less audacious in scope than the Freemen Foundation, but hopefully still incredibly impactful. I'll be publishing a weekly podcast and weekly newsletter moving forward under this banner. https://conservativeunderground.substack.com/ https://www.youtube.com/@ConservativeUnderground Clearly, an intervention is in order. In this bonus, cross-over episode Justin and I explore the paths that brought us to where we are today and where we might be headed.
