Unravel the mystery of what happens after death according to early Christian theology. Contrary to popular belief, Hades was not synonymous with hellfire and brimstone but rather a complex spiritual realm where souls could continue their journey towards salvation. This view is supported by scriptural references and writings from early church fathers, who spoke of gates and keys symbolizing access to preach the gospel to the dead. Such insights offer a deeper understanding of the plan of salvation, highlighting God's mercy and justice in providing every soul with the chance to accept the gospel.

Descend with us into the very depths of hell to witness the most dramatic reversal in cosmic history. This haunting narrative takes you behind enemy lines to experience Easter from an unexpected perspective—the demons who believed they had won.The ancient Christian tradition of the "Harrowing of Hell" comes vividly alive as we hear the voices of darkness celebrating what they believe is their ultimate triumph. "Let the dark heavens ring with our victory," they gleefully proclaim, preparing chains for the crucified Christ who now descends into their realm like countless mortals before him. Their celebration echoes through the "black vaults of Tartarus" as they rejoice that "the so-called light of the world has been extinguished."But something unprecedented occurs—light begins penetrating the darkness. Confusion gives way to terror as the demons witness a figure "cloaked not in shadow, but in fire" whose "face is as the sun before time." The narrative reaches its climactic revelation as the underworld realizes its catastrophic mistake: "The cross was his weapon. His tomb was a trap for us." What appeared to be Christ's defeat was actually the instrument of his victory and death's undoing. As the ancient Easter proclamation declares: "Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death."This powerful retelling invites you to see the Easter story through fresh eyes and contemplate its profound meaning—how light conquers darkness, how apparent defeat transforms into ultimate victory, and how death itself became the doorway to eternal life. In this episode I share my reflections on how far I've come since April 10, 2024--the day my youngest child attempted suicide. Never in my wildest imagination did I expect that my parenting journey would challenge me to face my deepest, darkest fears. But here I am...one year later, here I am, somehow finding a way to move forward and surprisingly finding joy and delight along the way. In my travels to Finland, I learned about the Finnish term "sisu ". Roughly translated, sisu refers to extraordinary courage, strength of will, determination, perseverance or grit. It's the inner strength one taps into to face the storm even without being able to see the silver lining. It's no coincidence that this life philosophy is intersecting with my life on this day--the anniversary of the hardest thing I've ever faced as a parent. For those of you in the midst of your storm...keep going! Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Find your sisu! Today, we sit down with Elizabeth Coleman, author and former cult member, to hear her story and testimony of how she came to Christ. Elizabeth tells us about growing up in the cult with no name — but one that ex-members call the Two-by-Twos — and how she was conditioned from a young age to fear Christianity and other Christians. She shares how members of the Two-by-Twos believe that their beliefs are the only way to Jesus, but in fact, the cult was started in the late 1800s, not the first century. Elizabeth tells us how she met her husband at 17 and slowly started to question her beliefs throughout university, ultimately leaving the cult for the true gospel of Jesus Christ. Historian Hampton Sides describes one of the most brutal ground battles ever fought – the 17-day Battle of Chosin Reservoir, which began on the 27th of November 1950. The conditions were relentlessly difficult – frigid temperatures, frozen, rocky ground, and an enemy that kept coming in waves. And they weren't the North Koreans who General MacArthur had expected. No this was Mao's Red Army. More than 120,000 Chinese soldiers surrounded 30,000 US Marines and UN troops. What was a desperate situation could have been much worse, save for the incredible bravery of the Marines and the sage leadership of U.S. Marine battalion General Oliver Prince.Hampton Sides, in his excellent book On Desperate Ground, explains how General Smith's strategic thinking preserved the lives of many of his men, helping them receive supplies during the battle and eventually break through enemy lines to find a path to safety. It's a rosing tribute to the “Chosin Few!"Heroes Behind HeadlinesExecutive Producer Ralph PezzulloProduced & Engineered by Mike DawsonMusic provided by ExtremeMusic.com

Thirty Below: The Harrowing and Heroic Story of the First All-Women's Ascent of Denali by Cassidy Randall Amazon.com The gripping story of a group of female adventurers and their treacherous pioneering ascent of Denali. Excerpted in Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, and Men's Journal, and named one of the most noteworthy books of the month by the Washington Post Cassidy Randall draws on extensive archival research and original interviews to tell an engrossing, edge-of-the-seat adventure story about a forgotten group of climbers who had the audacity to believe that women could walk alone in extraordinary and treacherous heights. Grace Hoeman dreamed of standing on top of Denali. The tallest peak in North America, the fierce polar mountain loomed large in many climbers' imaginations, and Grace, a doctor in Alaska, had come close to the top, only to be turned back by altitude sickness and a storm that took the lives of seven fellow climbers in one remorseless blow. Other expeditions denied her a place because of her gender, and when a letter arrived from a climber in California named Arlene Blum, who'd also been barred from expeditions—unless she stayed in base camp and cooked for the men, Grace got a defiant idea: she would organize and lead the first-ever all-female ascent of the frozen Alaskan peak. Everyone told the “Denali Damsels,” as the team called themselves, that it couldn't be done: Women were incapable of climbing mountains on their own. Men had walked on the moon; women still had not stood on the highest points on Earth. But these six women were unwilling to be limited by sexists and misogynists. They pushed past barriers in society at large, the climbing world, and their own bodies. And then, when disaster struck at the worst time on their expedition, they could either keep their wits and prove their mettle, or die and confirm the worst opinions of men.About the author Cassidy Randall is an award-winning writer who tells stories on the environment, adventure, and people who expand human potential. She's the author of the new survival epic THIRTY BELOW: The Harrowing and Heroic Story of the First All-Women' s Ascent of Denali; and THE HARD PARTS with Paralympian Oksana Masters, which won an Alex Award from the American Library Association and was listed as one of the best sports books of the year by the Times. Peter Viles is a brilliant journalist, terrific family man, and the next door neighbor you could only dream for. After years of renting, he and his wife moved from Mar Vista to a townhome in the Palisades and thanks to a robust real estate market were able to sell that home for a dream house up the hill. Sadly when the fires hit in January it blazed through his neighborhood destroying many of the homes on his block, but someone up there likes Pete and his family and his home was spared. Unfortunately, like lots of families in Altadena and the Palisades, the smoke damage was so intense, it's unsafe for he and his family to stay there and they were forced to rent a home in the South Bay for a year. We'll talk about his escape, how his kids are adjusting to their new life, and what life was like for him before the blaze.
I have a movie telling a harrowing true life tale about a deep sea, or saturation, diver in mortal peril this week called “Last Breath.” It stars Woody Harrelson, Simu Liu, Finn Cole and Cliff Curtis. As you know, there are thousands of miles of pipes in the ocean and somebody has to maintain them. That's where saturation divers come in. They dive to dangerous depths out in the middle of freezing cold, dark oceans, so deep they have to compress and decompress for four days. The movie centers on three divers, Chris, Dave and Duncan, who are all on the same diving team. As you'd imagine, the oceans can get pretty rough and that's what happens in this movie that ends up being one of the reasons for this ordeal. Circumstances have it to where Chris is disconnected from everyone else on the ocean floor with only ten minutes of oxygen. Thanks to the rough oceans, and the ship losing its computerized system that keeps the ship sitting still in one place, the ship gets further and further away from Chris. Can the rest of the crew make it back to Chris in time or will it just be a body recovery operation? Is it worth going to the theater to find out? Check out this episode to find out. “Last Breath” also stars Mark Bonnar, MyAnna Buring, Josef Altin, Bobby Rainsbury, Connor Reed, Nick Biadon and Riz Khan. A Note from James: So, I'm out rock climbing, but I really wanted to take a moment to introduce today's guest: Roger Reaves. This guy is unbelievable. He's arguably the biggest drug smuggler in history, having worked with Pablo Escobar and others through the '70s, '80s, and even into the '90s. Roger's life is like something out of a movie—he spent 33 years in jail and has incredible stories about the drug trade, working with people like Barry Seal, and the U.S. government's involvement in the smuggling business. Speaking of Barry Seal, if you've seen American Made with Tom Cruise, there's a wild scene where Barry predicts the prosecutor's next move after being arrested—and sure enough, it happens just as he said. Well, Barry Seal actually worked for Roger. That's how legendary this guy is. Roger also wrote a book called Smuggler about his life. You'll want to check that out after hearing these crazy stories. Here's Roger Reaves. Episode Description: Roger Reaves shares his extraordinary journey from humble beginnings on a farm to becoming one of the most notorious drug smugglers in history. He discusses working with Pablo Escobar, surviving harrowing escapes from law enforcement, and the brutal reality of imprisonment and torture. Roger reflects on his decisions, the human connections that shaped his life, and the lessons learned from a high-stakes career. Whether you're here for the stories or the insights into an underground world, this episode offers a rare glimpse into a life few could imagine. What You'll Learn: How Roger Reaves became involved in drug smuggling and built connections with major players like Pablo Escobar and Barry Seal. The role of the U.S. government in the drug trade and its surprising intersections with Roger's operations. Harrowing tales of near-death experiences, including shootouts, plane crashes, and daring escapes. The toll a life of crime takes on family, faith, and personal resilience.
