For the past five years, Pastor Alex has had a monthly lunch meeting with a few guys to talk about social, racial, and societal issues. We have had black, white, and Latinos men all coming together to share our perspectives, ask questions, and listen to each other. This lunch started after the George Floyd incident in May of 2020 when my friend Hector connected me with Lieutenant Dave Meyer to gain perspective from all sides of that issue. From there, we kept meeting to talk about other issues and events like Breonna Taylor, Rayshard Brooks, Jacob Blake, Tyreek Hill, etc. We discussed all the issues you discussed on social media. Now, we are finally ready to share our conversations with the world. We will do this in a 10-week series of podcasts and then plan on releasing the book next year. “Lunch to Save the World” tells the story of how people from all different walks of life come together to civilly discuss what's going on in our world! Alex Bryant Ministries is focused on helping people be reconciled to God, then within one's own self, and finally being reconciled to our fellow man in order to become disciples. On this episode of BMU, the guys discuss Black rage in the context of James Baldwin's famous quote, “to be a Negro in this country and to be relatively conscious is to be in a state of rage almost all of the time…” Their discussion probes the value of rage, our desire to dispel rage without offering it legitimacy, and what it means to accept that folks have a right to be angry. They explore the distance between American culture's response to Black and white rage, the need for joy amidst the rage, and share their favorite Baldwin quotes. The show takes a hilarious turn with the surprise return of “Really, Bruh?” “Billy Porter on race, recognition, and the Middle East” (The Guardian) “The Negro in American Culture” Radio Interview (1961) Black Rage by William H. Grier and Price M. Cobbs Edwin references the killing of Rayshard Brooks by Atlanta Police (Wikipedia)

In a move that the Daily Mail described as “humiliating” for Joe Biden, lawmakers cast a bipartisan vote to freeze the six billion dollars that the President had previously freed up for Iran as part of his hostage negotiation deal. The move drew the support of nearly every Republican but also attracted nearly 100 Democrats. Now it’s looking as if it might pass in the Senate as well. During a time when it’s been seeming as if common sense had been banned in Washington, we have lawmakers seemingly conceding that sending billions of dollars to the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism might not be such a great idea. President Biden is facing a humiliating foreign policy setback as $6 billion he used to leverage the release of five imprisoned Americans from Iran could be frozen. Lawmakers including members of Biden’s own party voted on Thursday to approve a bill that would permanently freeze the funds, which were unfrozen by the White House in September as part of a controversial deal. The bill, named the No Funds for Iranian Terrorism Act, passed in a 307 to 119 vote – which was approved by almost every Republican and 90 Democrats. The money is being held in Qatar, where most negotiations between the West and terror groups take place these days. The reality is that Joe Biden had already “refrozen” the money after the October 7 Hamas terror attacks. Congress is now close to locking the door to those funds indefinitely. Keep in mind that the money was originally leveraged to free five American hostages as well as five Iranian prisoners. But before the cash transfer was even complete, an even larger number of Americans were taken hostage by Hamas, which is almost entirely funded by Iran. In that sense, the United States was losing ground in the exchange, rather than getting something of value for the money. Plenty of people were warning the Biden administration about this when the talks first began. This is why we’ve long had a rule about not negotiating with terrorists. If you pay to secure the release of hostages, you will inevitably wind up with more hostages because the terrorists see that their tactics are working. And that’s precisely where we are today. https://www.dailyfetched.com/blm-rioters-in-atlanta-who-burnt-down-wendys-get-500-fine/ BLM Rioters in Atlanta Who Burnt Down Wendy’s Get $500 Fine Two Black Lives Matter (BLM) rioters who pleaded guilty to torching Wendy’s fast food restaurant in Atlanta in 2020 were sentenced to five years of probation and a $500 fine. Chisom Kingston and Natalie White were charged with conspiracy to commit arson in the first degree, and two counts of first-degree arson. Both pleaded guilty in a plea deal, according to court records. Kingston and White must complete 150 hours of community service. In addition to charges, John Wesley Wade, 35, was indicted for the same fire in January this year. Initially, all three pleaded not guilty and waived their arraignments in March 2022, The charges stem from BLM riots, which took place over the death of Rayshard Brooks, who was killed in a police-involved shooting in June 2020. Brooks allegedly punched police officer David Brosnan and stole his taser while under investigation for a DUI in the parking lot of the Wendy’s restaurant. Brooks reportedly aimed the Taser at Officer Brosnan. However, a second officer, Garrett Rolfe, shot and killed rooks during the altercation. Brooks allegedly punched Brosnan, causing a concussion. In response to the incident, BLM rioters burnt down Wendy’s in protest of Brooks’ death. Later, violent demonstrations exploded over the city in the months following. Former Fulton County District Attorney charged officers Rolfe and Brosnan. Brosnan was charged with aggravated assault, while Rolfe faces felony murder and assault charges. Ninety-nine percent of charges brought against BLM rioters in 2020 were dropped by local prosecutors, according to an analysis from The Guardian. Earlier this year, the United States Court of Appeals in Washington, DC, admitted that BLM rioters were treated better compared to some pro-life protesters. The news comes just under a month after New York City officials agreed to pay $13 million to violent “2020 Summer of Love” BLM and Antifa protesters after they caused damage to 45 businesses. https://www.foxnews.com/us/derek-chauvin-returns-prison-after-alleged-blm-inspired-stabbing Derek Chauvin returns to prison after alleged BLM-inspired stabbing Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has returned to a federal prison in Arizona more than a week after a fellow inmate allegedly stabbed him 22 times with a shank in the library in a Black Friday attack partially inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement. Chauvin is serving more than 20 years for the death of George Floyd and for depriving him of his civil rights in a May 2020 encounter that kicked off nationwide protests. Chauvin's family is "very concerned about the facility’s capacity to protect Derek from further harm," his lawyer, Greg Erickson, told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "They remain unassured that any changes have been made to the faulty procedures that allowed Derek’s attack to occur in the first place." John Turscak, 52, allegedly told federal correction officers that he targeted Chauvin because he was a high-profile inmate, that he plotted the attack for a month and that he would have killed him if guards had not intervened, according to court documents. Turscak could see 60 years added to his federal sentence if he gets the maximum punishment on the four new charges he faces, which includes attempted murder. He was due for release in 2026, according to the Bureau of Prisons. Turscak, a former gang member and snitch, was dropped as an FBI informant for dealing drugs, greenlighting assaults and extorting money, according to prosecutors. He allegedly told investigators that he picked Black Friday for the attack to symbolize both BLM and the "Black Hand" of the Mexican Mafia prison gang. The attack took place from behind in the law library inside Federal Correctional Institution Tucson on Nov. 24. Authorities said guards intervened "immediately," but Erickson questioned how fast the response really was – noting Chauvin's 22 stab wounds. "Why was Derek allowed into the law library without a guard in close enough proximity to stop a possible attack?" he asked. "His family continues to wonder." Prison experts have warned that Chauvin, like other high-profile inmates, is at increased risk. "He was a dead man walking his first day in prison," said Keith Rovere, a former prison minister and the host of the "Lighter Side of Serial Killers" podcast. "This definitely won't be the last attack." In an appeal filed last month, Chauvin claimed new evidence shows he was not responsible for the death. Separately, the Supreme Court rejected his appeal for a new trial just days before the stabbing. Chauvin was one of four officers who arrested Floyd that day after he allegedly passed a counterfeit $20 bill at a coffee shop and refused to cooperate with police. Chauvin, who was seen on a video that prompted riots around the country, knelt on Floyd's neck for more than nine minutes leading up to his death. Erickson previously slammed the prison for "poor procedures and lack of institutional control" – referencing an incident last year in which an inmate allegedly smuggled a firearm into the facility and tried to shoot someone. Prison officials said they "[take] seriously our duty to protect the individuals entrusted in our custody, as well as maintain the safety of correctional employees and the community." Citing privacy and safety concerns, authorities said they do not discuss the medical status or other "conditions of confinement" for inmates. https://www.worldofreel.com/blog/2023/12/1/hb03oy7zedb5m0rhj557tbnr6znepm Raves for ‘Godzilla Minus One’ Who’s seen Toho’s “Godzilla Minus One”? The reviews are almost all glowing. Unless I somehow missed my invitation, I don’t believe there was a press screening for this one. On Metacritic it’s scoring a very strong 79/100 from 24 reviews. On IMDB, it has an impressive 8.5 user rating. The film takes place in a devastated post-war Japan where Godzilla goes on a rampage. Ship the Mary Celeste is discovered mysteriously abandoned by her crew in the Atlantic Ocean on December 5th, 1872? On November 7, 1872, the Mary Celeste set sail from New York City, with more than 1,700 barrels of alcohol destined for Genoa, Italy. On board were 10 people, including Captain Briggs, his wife, and their two-year-old daughter. Over the next two weeks, the ship encountered harsh weather. According to the last log entry—dated November 25—the Mary Celeste was some 6 nautical miles (11 km) from the Azores. Ten days later, December 5th, the vessel was spotted by the British brig Dei Gratia. Crew from that ship boarded the Mary Celeste and discovered it deserted. Although there was more than 3 feet (1 metre) of water in the hold—an amount that would not have caused panic—the vessel was seaworthy. Adding to the mystery was the fact that the cargo and personal belongings were largely undisturbed, although a longboat was missing. It appeared that the ship had been abandoned quickly. Crewmen from the Dei Gratia sailed the Mary Celeste to Gibraltar, some 800 miles (1,482 km) away. There British authorities conducted an investigation, which ultimately found no evidence of foul play. How about some famous birthdays for December 5th? Regardless, it made $11 million domestically this weekend, a real success. “Godzilla Minus One” has a 97% (8.2/10) with critics, from 75 reviews. On Metacritic it’s scoring a very strong 79/100 from 24 reviews. On IMDB, it has an impressive 8.5 user rating. The film takes place in a devastated post-war Japan where Godzilla goes on a rampage. This is the second of the live-action Reiwa era ‘Godzilla’ films, the first being 2016’s “Shin Godzilla”. It looks as though director Takashi Yamazaki has made one of the better films of the franchise. This is the 37th film in the ‘Godzilla’ franchise, and Toho's 33rd Godzilla film. Five ex-police officers have been charged with second-degree murder after beating Tyre Nichols, 29, who was black, during a traffic stop in Memphis, Tennessee. He died three days later. Nichols' death has sparked protests and fresh calls for reform of the police in Memphis and nationwide. Over the past years, the US has been in the spotlight for police brutality. Public outcry against the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Rayshard Brooks - to name a few - at the hands of the police led to Black Lives Matter protests across the globe. It's not just the US grappling with the problem of police brutality. We take a global look at the problem. Which countries are getting it right? Can policing ever be effective without violence? In Atlanta, Georgia, community activists remain locked in a nearly 2-year struggle against the development of a massive police training center in a forest just outside the city, dubbed "cop city." Only weeks after George Floyd's murder in 2020 and the 2020 police killing of Rayshard Brooks, calls to "demilitarize" and "defund the police" amassed all over the country. It was difficult for Atlanta, as it was for many cities across the country. The city's 14 percent increase in homicides was accompanied by several, tragic, high-profile murders just as the voters were facing a choice of who would serve as the next mayor. The race and runoff were dominated by these public perceptions of crime and questions about how candidates would respond became central. In September 2021, the Atlanta City Council approved plans to grant a ground lease to the Atlanta Police Foundation for a $90 million dollar police training facility to be built on 85 acres of land near Southeast Atlanta, located in a lower-income, predominantly Black area not represented on Atlanta's City Council. A local firm conducted a survey of residents near the proposed site and found 98% of respondents opposed the project. The approval was also granted despite strong opposition from community groups who oppose this substantial allocation of public resources to Atlanta police. Additionally, the land slated for development has a fraught history, having formerly served as the Old Atlanta Prison Farm where inmates were subjected to abusive, "slave-like" conditions. Digital producer Zachary Bynum reports from Atlanta, talking with activists, organizers, and elected officials from the city to determine what this all means about policing, land stewardship, and power in the struggle for the future of Atlanta's South River Forest. Editor's note: We reached out to the Atlanta Police Foundation for comment and we have not yet received a response. If we do, we will post it here.

In this episode we interview multiple people who've been involved in the struggle to Stop Cop City and Defend the Forest in Atlanta. What started as a political struggle against an extremely unpopular massive new police training facility has morphed and evolved in many different directions. We welcome Kamau Franklin from Community Movement Builders back to the platform for the third time for this conversation. He brings with him several folks with knowledge of the movement to stop cop city and what has become known as the Defend the Atlanta Forest movement. This is a conversation that touches on modes of liberal city governance and counterinsurgency against radical social movements like the uprisings that took place across the country in the summer of 2020 in response to many instances of police violence including the police lynching of George Floyd and in Atlanta specifically the police execution of Rayshard Brooks as well. Kamau along with Sara, Paul and River discuss some of the current political economy of the greater Atlanta metropolitan area and discuss different phases of the struggle to prevent the political approval and physical construction of the massive police training facility. Along the way we also get into conversations about some of the dynamics coalition which is diverse both in terms of political tendencies and traditions, but also in terms of its racial composition. We talk about of some of the tensions and issues that can arise from these circumstances. And there is some discussion of tactics and strategy as well that is specific to this struggle, which warrant broader consideration contingent of course on the conditions of other struggles. You can learn more and support at https://defendtheatlantaforest.org You can also contribute to the Atlanta Solidarity Fund as Sara recommends in the show: https://atlsolidarity.org to support folks who are facing repression and legal cases. And you can learn more and support Community Movement Builders at https://communitymovementbuilders.org. Also in Kamau's other role, he is a co-host of the Remix Morning Show on Black Power Media, make sure you check them out and support their work as well, this conversation would not have been what it was without Kamau's support and facilitation. Apologies that due to the number of guests and internet connections some of the audio cuts out at a couple points in the conversation. In all cases it resolves and hopefully minimal meaning and information is lost. But we encourage folks to stick with it even if the audio is a little frustrating in parts because the conversation offers so many important insights. And last but not least, if you like the work that we do here at Millennials Are Killing Capitalism. If you want to hear more conversations about dynamic social movements, revolutionary history, political theory, and tactical and strategic discussion, then join up with the awesome folks who support our show currently by becoming a patron of the show. This October marks the 5th anniversary of doing the show. We've hosted over 165 conversations in that period. And for those 5 years we're looking to add 50 patrons this month to help us sustain this work. 50 is a lot, but you can be one of those folks helping to support by just kicking in a dollar a month or by making a small annual contribution at patreon.com/millennialsarekillingcapitalism.

In this episode Carl argues that the cops were within their rights to shoot Rayshard Brooks given the threat that he posed. They did everything possible for 40 minutes to keep Brooks calm. Once he was detained, he flipped out, wrestling the cops, and taking one officer's taser. If anyone is to blame, it's Brooks himself and the race hustlers that perpetuate the narrative that blacks are being hunted down. Of course, black men will run from cops if they're told this lie. AP correspondent Mike Hempen reports on Police Shooting-Atlanta.
On Saturday, an argument following a youth football scrimmage led to the murder of a coach in front of his 9-year-old son. Despite the alleged shooter being the brother of a former NFL star and despite that same Super Bowl champion player being on the field when the murder happened, you probably haven't heard the name Michael Hickmon. The former college football running back had spent his post-playing career giving back to the youth in his community. That's just what he was doing when Yaqub Talib, the brother of former Denver Broncos star Aqib Talib, shot and killed him following a post-game dispute. The story didn't lead on ESPN's Sportscenter, LeBron James hasn't tweeted for justice, and there is no "Say His Name" campaign for Hickmon. “Hickmon is unworthy of the kind of deification corporate and social media reserve for heroic black men harmed while resisting arrest. Hickmon is no George Floyd, Michael Brown, Daunte Wright, Rayshard Brooks, Jacob Blake, or Eric Garner.” Jason says. "It's racist to discuss the self-hatred that provokes black men to cavalierly settle disagreements with gun violence.” "Fearless" contributors Dave Shannon and Steve Kim share their thoughts on the tragedy. And Steve weighs in on whether Fox Sports and Amazon should reconsider their associations with Aqib Talib following the murder. Today's Sponsor: School has begun! Over the past few years, we have heard about the need to reform and/or overhaul the criminal justice system. Unfortunately, some of the unintended consequences of reforms put into action have included rising crime and homicide rates. In this episode of Policing Matters, host Jim Dudley speaks with Rafael Mangual, a senior fellow and head of research for the Policing and Public Safety Initiative at the Manhattan Institute and a contributing editor at "City Journal," about his recently released book, “Criminal (In) Justice: What the Push for Decarceration and Depolicing Gets Wrong and Who It Hurts Most." In his book, Rafael offers a more balanced understanding of American criminal justice, and cautions against discarding traditional crime control measures: “After a summer of violent protests in 2020 – sparked by the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Rayshard Brooks – a dangerously false narrative gained mainstream acceptance: Criminal justice in the United States is overly punitive and racially oppressive. But, the harshest and loudest condemnations of incarceration, policing, and prosecution are often shallow and at odds with the available data. And the significant harms caused by this false narrative are borne by those who can least afford them: black and brown people who are disproportionally the victims of serious crimes.” Click here for more information on "Criminal (In) Justice" and follow Rafael Mangual on Twitter. Friday on Political Rewind: The three men found guilty of murdering Ahmaud Arbery were set to be sentenced today in a Brunswick courtroom. All three face a mandatory 30 years in prison, but we asked: will any of them be given a chance of parole? The tragic deaths last year of Arbery, Rayshard Brooks, George Floyd, and other African Americans accelerated demands for racial and social justice … and gave new legitimacy to the Black Lives Matter movement. In Glynn County, a new organization came to life to push for change in a county long seen as hostile to its Black residents. But how much progress has been made in achieving these goals? We asked our panel. The Panel: Elijah Bobby Henderson — Co-founder, A Better Glynn Margaret Coker — Editor-in-Chief, The Current Patricia Murphy — Columnist, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Tiffany Williams Roberts — Public Policy Director, Southern Center for Human Rights
