In episode 23 of The Peace Radicals Marc J. Victor and Andy Marcantel converse with a special guest, Professor Ken Schoolland. Ken is an economics professor, author of The Adventures of Jonathan Gullible: A Free Market Odyssey, and former president of Liberty International, and Chairperson of the Libertarian Party of Hawai‘i. Ken explains how using humor in his book has helped people to understand the absurdities of certain laws, the controls imposed on people's lives, and the economic drawbacks of these laws. He also explains what the Jones Act is and how it financially hurts the people of Hawai‘i. They discuss why this is considered crony capitalism and how that differs from true capitalism. They theorize that the growing socialist movement in the US is caused by the lack of understanding of these two different types of capitalism.

Economist Ken Schoolland will discuss economic impacts and prospects of the coronavirus locally and globally. Are last week's UHERO report and comments correct or helpful. Will it be worse than they say. What happens in a state with one dominant industry, hospitality and tourism, that stops cold. What happens to ancillary industries - the restaurant industry, the service industry, the retail industry. How will shipping and supply lines be affected. Will we be able to get necessary goods and services. What will happen to the health industry when our existing infrastructure is overwhelmed. What will happen to people who have no jobs or money. How will this affect social order. How will these things unfold, what are the benchmarks and events on the way down and up. How will the local and national economy be different when we come out of the current crisis. The Spanish flu would be instructive - what are the steps to knit things back together, and how long will that take. The infection rate can come and go, as it did in 1918-1919. How will these waves affect recovery of the economy. The host for this episode is Jay Fidell. The guest for this episode is Ken Schoolland.

The Philosophy of Liberty (PoL) is a flash animation based of what is now the epilogue of Ken Schoolland's book, "The Adventures of Jonathan Gullible." It began in 1992 as a Russian translation of the book was being published. The publisher Dmitry Costygin informed Ken that few people in Russia even knew what 'property' or 'taxes' were, and Ken responded by writing an introduction that described the philosophy of his book. It became so popular that it now appears as the epilogue in every language edition (40+ and counting), and it inspired Kerry Pearson (aka Lux Lucre) to create a flash animation. By 2005, the animation had reached thousands online, including myself. With the advent of online video sharing sites, it seemed a video version would be an ideal way to reach people that might not otherwise find the flash version online. Sofar, tens of thousands have viewed the video version and now to make the PoL even more accessible, all 14 languages have been converted to various video formats.
