There was a lot to get through in the news this week, but we also take the time to wonder what next for the Champions League? Part 1 Well we're 20-odd games into the season and the table has taken some kind of shape, it's rough around the edges sure, but the pieces are all vaguely near their final resting places. While everything is still to play for, who knows what twists and turns await us. Hello and welcome to the Total Football podcast, I am your host Declan Harte. Joining me is Andrew Conway Andrew, this is all true except for the relegation “battle,” right? Part 2 Liverpool's title hopes are surely over now right? They lost two home games in one week, first to Brighton and then 4-1 to Man City… Man United equalled a Premier League record, winning 9-0 against Southampton, before throwing away a 3-2 lead in the dying minutes at home to the ever inconsistent Everton. Jose Mourinho's Tottenham, but for how much longer? Mike Dean received death threats following a busy week for the Main Event Man. Has the concept of refereeing controversies melted all of our collective minds? Part 3 The Champions League format faced a lot of scrutiny in the last week. It's been called a backdoor Super League, it's known as the Swiss Model and it's got all the big league talking. Nothing is certain yet, but all we do know is that there's no way everyone will be happy. I'm going to rule out the open seed straight knockout concept right out of the gate and ask, between the two options put forward, where does European competition go next? Part 4 There's midweek action once again, but this time it's only the FA Cup, so let's focus on looking ahead to the weekend's Premier League fixtures. We've got Leicester/Liverpool, Man City/Spurs and Arsenal/Leeds. Who have you got for these three? Crash, bang, wallop what a title race! Man City and Liverpool drop points, Spurs snatch a win and Chelsea rule themselves out by forgetting how to play football. What a contrast to the previous season. We look back over all of it and still have time to revel in some rare Geordie joy, learn about the latest developments in the pastime of horse punching and uninformed discussion about the eyes of various animals.
