Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso, presented by our friends at Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse. Second to last European final of the season on tap tomorrow as Real Betis faces Chelsea. Isco, who earned a call-up to the Spanish national team for the UEFA Nations League, is one of the key players to watch along with Antony. The winger on loan from Manchester United has been outstanding with 7 goal contributions in 8 Conference League matches since arriving in January. Manuel Pellegrini is coaching in his first European final in his illustrious career, Betis are playing in their first European final as well. Keep in mind, English clubs have lost their last nine European finals against Spanish opposition going back to Liverpool's 2001 UEFA Cup win over Alavés. Lots of potential injury issues for Betis, we'll get you updates hopefully tomorrow ahead of the match on a special Wednesday Morning Espresso. International break next week as World Cup qualifiers take center stage. Lots of eyes will be on Brazil playing their first matches under Carlo Ancelotti's leadership. He left Neymar out due to injury but did recall Casemiro. UEFA Nations League finals will also take place with Spain facing France in one semifinal and Portugal facing Germany in the other. Will that semifinal performance from Cristiano Ronaldo potentially earn him a move to play for a club in the Club World Cup? It might be possible after his social media posts yesterday, seemingly saying goodbye to Al Nassr after their season ended without major success. He's out of contract at the end of June and there's been whispers of interest from Brazilian clubs and Monterrey in bringing him in for the Club World Cup. It's going to grab all the tabloid headlines for sure. Real Madrid and Xabi Alonso are trying to get Trent Alexander-Arnold in for the Club World Cup, but Liverpool want a substantial sum to let him out of his contract a month early. Reports out of Spanish TV indicate that the asking price could be as high as $5M. Al Hilal are trying desperately to get Simone Inzaghi as their new manager, offering to make him the highest paid manager in the world. He has one more match with Inter this season, the Champions League final on Saturday. He wasn't absolutely committed to continuing with the Italian club afterwards, saying that "certain conditions" needed to be met first. Another subplot to watch ahead of the Club World Cup. In Italy as Napoli continues to celebrate their Serie A title, they might be adding a key piece for next season while saying goodbye to someone else. Kevin de Bruyne is reportedly close to joining Napoli on a free from Manchester City. But he'll have a new manager to work for, as it looks like Antonio Conte is set to leave the club and Max Allegri is the leading name mentioned as his successor. Even in successful times, it's never quiet in Naples. For more news today and conversation, check out the video edition on YouTube or the audio on Spreaker. See y'all tomorrow for another edition of the Morning Espresso. Listen to Atlanta Soccer Tonight this evening on 92.9 The Game & the Audacy app starting at 10pm.

Liverpool rounded off a victorious Premier League campaign with a 1-1 draw with FA Cup winners Crystal Palace at Anfield. But the match itself was far from the main focus for Reds reporter David Lynch, who believes instead the day was all about the fact that this success could be the start of something special. In this latest match review, he discusses hopes for the future, the reception received by Trent Alexander-Arnold, and the strength of the league as a whole. Check out this review of the bigger picture for the Reds from Anfield and make sure to leave your thoughts in the comment section. After guiding Liverpool to the Premier League title in his first season Arne Slot reflects on his first 12 months in charge at Anfield. He talks to the BBC's Sports Editor Dan Roan about what he was expecting when he first took over, replacing Jurgen Klopp, and how he dealt with the uncertainty around Mohammed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold's contracts. Join Jim Boardman and Jay Reid as they soak in the incredible atmosphere enveloping the city of Liverpool ahead of a monumental Bank Holiday weekend. The city is buzzing with events, from Radio One's Big Weekend to cruise liners docking, but most important of all it's the final game of the season - a formality to go through before that long-awaited trophy lift, ahead of the victory parade through the city's streets on Monday. For Jay, that trophy lift is an especially poignant moment; it's the first time in his lifetime he'll witness Liverpool lift the league trophy at Anfield – a ticket he wouldn't sell for any price. It's the first time the Reds have lifted the league trophy in front of fans at Anfield for 35 years, so a large chunk of the Liverpool support are in the same boat. Two of the greatest centre-backs in football history will be on the pitch as the trophy gets lifted, with true club legend Alan Hansen set to present the trophy to future club legend Virgil Van Dijk, adding to the symbolism of the occasion. Jurgen Klopp will be there too, keeping to his promise of coming back but not in a way that would interfere with the work of Arne Slot. No surprise he's there; he's as big a fan as any of us, and every fan wants to be there. If only - but Anfield, as big as it now is, can't possibly contain every Red who wants to be there on Sunday. In fact, if estimates of how many people are heading into the city for the weekend are true, 16 Anfields wouldn't be enough. No problem though; the city is ready to showcase its unique, welcoming spirit and show how it throws a party, as the Reds' heroes show that trophy off from the top of a bus! The last match itself sees Liverpool host Crystal Palace. With both teams in a celebratory mood (Palace fresh from their own FA Cup triumph), Jay and Jim are wondering if it's even worth bothering with the footy itself. Jim and Jay reflect on a season where Liverpool exceeded expectations to clinch that title, but with transfer windows set to open, work needs to be done to ensure new expectations are met. No Red expected Slot to be so successful so soon - but all Reds want more of the same. The hosts briefly discuss some of the transfer rumours swirling around potential incomings like Frimpong and Kerkez, and possible departures including the respected Joe Gomez and potentially Darwin Nunez. Since the show was recorded, rumours about Florian Wirtz leaving Germany for Merseyside have gathered pace, but until he's had his photo holding up his new shirt, Jay and Jim are assuming nothing. There's also discussion on manager Arne Slot's latest press conference, particularly his comments on Trent Alexander-Arnold's training and defensive application, and how the media has portrayed this. The hosts touch on how Trent might be received and the importance of focusing on the collective celebration. What advice would the hosts give Arne, if he asked, on how to handle this last bit with Trent? As for that victory parade, the hosts offer some tips for fans wanting to catch a glimpse of the champions. It's a time to savour the moment, celebrate a hard-won title, and look forward to what the future holds for the Reds. As always, there's plenty to laugh about from across the park, although you aren't likely to find any of them there as the A55 clogs up under the weight of a blue-tinged exodus to North Wales. Sunday will also mark the final match for George Sephton, the iconic 'Voice of Anfield'. His voice has boomed around Anfield for decades, since the days the Reds were winning titles almost every season. He really is and has been part of Anfield - he's been there for the good times and the bad, and it really won't be the same without him. Thanks for everything, George, from all of us. Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso, presented by our friends at Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse. Another disappointing night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium for Atlanta United, losing 1-0 to Philadelphia who go to the top spot in the Eastern Conference with the win. Personally, there were things I really liked about the shape change to play two central midfielders ahead of one holding midfielder and essentially two up top, although Miguel Almirón was essentially in a free role. However, it wasn't good enough on the night, the Union earned a deserved (although unlucky) penalty and converted to win 1-0. It doesn't get any easier for Atlanta United next weekend as they host the team level on points with Philadelphia in FC Cincinnati on Sunday night. Hot take alert, I'm a fan of the LA Galaxy announcing Greg Vanney's extension on Friday even though the team is still winless in regular season play in 2025. The negotiations started after Vanney won MLS Cup last December and were finalized recently. With the amount of injuries the Galaxy have tried to navigate this season, including to their 4 top attackers, a struggle was inevitable. A knee-jerk reaction to move on from Vanney after he rebuilt the club into a successful winning team would be the wrong move in my opinion. Crystal Palace earned their first major trophy by winning the FA Cup 1-0 over Manchester City. That will qualify them for the Europa League next year, their first time in a major European competition. Chelsea's women completed the domestic treble with their FA Cup win over Manchester United that saw USWNT members Catarina Macario score a goal and Naomi Girma marshal the backline to a clean sheet.Napoli and Inter both drew in Serie A yesterday, taking the title down to the wire. Their matches will be played on Friday with Napoli holding a one point advantage in the table. If they finish the night tied at the top of the standings, there will be a one-game playoff for the league title. PSV and Sporting won the Dutch and Portuguese top flight titles over the weekend respectively. Aberdeen defender Jack Mackenzie was hit by a plastic seat thrown by his own fans, intended for Dundee United fans celebrating on the field after their win that qualified them for Europe at the Dons' expense. He was bloodied and required treatment, the SPFL called the act "moronic". The great-great grandson of Ford Motor Company founder Henry Ford has become the majority shareholder of Scottish 2nd division side Livingston. Calvin Ford saw his new team win in their promotion semifinal. They will play either Dundee FC or Ross County for an opportunity to earn promotion to the Scottish Premiership. On the Club World Cup front, reports out of Spain indicate that an unnamed Brazilian club has made a "tempting" offer to Cristiano Ronaldo to join them for the tournament. Al Nassr is not in the event and Ronaldo is out of contract on June 30. Al Nassr also missed out on trophies this season and won't be in the Asian Champions League Elite tournament next season. Real Madrid paid the release clause for Bournemouth's CB Dean Huijsen. They have secured their new manager Xabi Alonso for the tournament, are working to bring in Trent Alexander-Arnold for the event as well, and reports indicate they could execute the buyback clause on Como's Nico Paz in time for the tournament as well. They are still chasing a left back too. Clayton joins James this week on the Gameweek Review Podcast to discuss all the weekend's games, which included more misfiring premiums, but there were good returns to be had elsewhere and that included a haul for Ebe Eze against a hapless and rotated Tottenham. Should they be under captaincy consideration? Plus, Arsenal pulled it back at Anfield where Trent Alexander-Arnold was booed, Newcastle beat 10 man Chelsea who saw Nicolas Jackson sent off, Villa, Brentford and Brighton picked up important wins, whilst Forest slipped up against Leicester and Southampton somehow held Manchester City and a returning Erling Haaland to claw themselves to 12 points. Fantasy targets for what remains covered, the pull of rolling for GW38, what will Palace and City do next week following the FA Cup Final, players to consider for those with a Free Hit left and lots more... Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse.Atlanta United came back to level their match at Soldier Field on Saturday, forcing an own goal, but then conceded a late winner to lose in Chicago. Go back and listen to the conversations I had with Ronny Deila and Ronald Hernandez after the match, the frustration is felt by everyone at the moment and they've got to find a way to turn that around quickly as they're next on the pitch in Austin on Wednesday (with gameday high temps set for 106) and back home to face Philadelphia on Saturday.Minnesota dealt Miami their 4th loss in their last 5 games, and barely had the ball in doing so. Danny Musovski in rarefied air for Seattle with goals in five straight games for the Sounders, scoring in their 3-1 win at Houston. NY Red Bulls defeated LA Galaxy 7-0 Saturday night, the worst ever loss for the Galaxy in their 30-year history.Vancouver, after their comeback 2-2 draw against LAFC last night, leads the Supporters' Shield race in MLS while Atlanta is in the bottom five in the league standings. A Classic El Clásico as Barcelona defeated Real Madrid for the fourth time this season, the first time that's been done since 1983. Madrid scored twice in the first 15 minutes through Kylian Mbappe, whose hat trick was wasted, but Barcelona had taken a 3-2 lead 20 minutes after his second goal and then added a 4th before halftime. The second half saw Mbappe complete his hat trick, a number of controversial referee decisions, and Barcelona celebrate essentially winning the league title as they only need one more point in their remaining matches. The managerial carousel is spinning in Madrid, as we expected. Fabrizio Romano reporting this morning that the deal is done for Xabi Alonso to join Real Madrid, and it will happen in time for the FIFA Club World Cup this summer. It will be a three-year contract. The semifinals are set in Mexico's Clausura as Club America will face Cruz Azul and Tigres will face Toluca. Alex Zendejas scored both goals in Las Aguilas win to set up another Mexico City derby, he has to be part of the USMNT this summer as he's had another strong season for Club America. Crazy scenes at the end of the Nottingham Forest 2-2 draw with Leicester as confusion over a late substitution and injury led to sort-of owner Evangelos Marinakis going out on the field and yelling at manager Nuno Espirito Santo. Bad look, but jumping to say that Nuno should resign over it was also over the top. Inter has cut Napoli's lead in Serie A down to one point after winning in a thunderstorm at Torino while Napoli was held to a draw by Genoa in Naples. Plenty more in the Espresso video and audio forms including my thoughts on the whistles at Trent Alexander-Arnold in Liverpool, the dangers of fan-led pitch invasions in celebration, and the risks of pregame and postgame social media trash talk from clubs. More Espresso tomorrow on the SDH Network, presented by our friends at Oglethorpe University.

The link is in the podcast episode description box' Liverpool threw away a two-goal lead as they were held to a 2-2 draw by 10-man Arsenal, but the main talking point was the toxic reception Trent Alexander-Arnold received from supporters. The Reds scored twice in quick-succession, but were pegged back after the break by goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Mikel Merino - who was later sent off for a second bookable offence. Prior to Merino's equaliser, supporters turned on Alexander-Arnold following his introduction as a second-half substitute as the Liverpool vice-captain made his first appearance for his boyhood club since confirming he would leave at the end of the season. The Reds remain 15 points clear of the second-placed Gunners, having already clinched the title, with three games left to play. But the Alexander-Arnold fallout threatens to overshadow the ongoing celebrations. Join Theo Squires and Mark Magill for the post-match podcast following Liverpool's match with Arsenal.
