[Watch the episode here] This week, it's part life update, part deep dive (because we always end up going there). One of us has been a total Debbie, the other a full Karen lately, but we owned it, laughed about it, and unpacked what's really been going on.We ponder philosophically: Are we living or just existing? How do we know the difference? Plus, Tully shares why she's officially boycotting a certain place after what they did recently (spoiler: she's fired up and salty). It's real, it's honest, and it's the kind of unfiltered conversation that makes it feel like you're having a conversation with your best friends. India are set to face Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup T20 after the Indian government recently clarified its stance on playing against Pakistan despite ongoing cross-border tensions. The Men in Blue will kick off their campaign against the UAE on September 10. However, all eyes will be on the blockbuster clash between the two arch-rivals at the Dubai International Stadium on September 14. This will be the first time India and Pakistan will face each other in an international cricket match since the Pahalgam terror attack. Should India boycott matches against Pakistan in continental and ICC tournaments, or should sports and politics remain separate when it comes to India-Pakistan encounters? Senior sports journalist Nikhil Naz joins the usual cast of Akshay Ramesh and Saurabh Kumar on the Sledging Room podcast to break down the rivalry and share insights from his two decades of covering the Asia Cup.

Some advocates in environmental and animal activism argue that we should solely focus on changing the system through government and corporate campaigns, discouraging grassroots action and personal change. Our guest, Janet O'Shea (informally known as Jay), co-authored an article in Newsweek in response to an environmental author's piece arguing that going vegan is ineffective. Hey BA Fam! This week I’m coming to you from Cleveland, where I’m soaking up all the love (and ALL the nostalgia) at the National Association of Black Journalists Convention. It’s been a full-circle moment walking back into this space, not as a reporter for a big outlet, but as Mandi Woodruff-Santos, aka Mandi Money, host of Brown Ambition! We’re talking about: Why it’s okay to come back to spaces you’ve outgrown—just show up as your new self. How journalism and content marketing are more connected than you think. Setting BIG end-of-year money goals (even while paying down debt). My real talk convo with Alexa Claire from The Financial Diet about saving goals for the life you want. And yes—we’re also going there. I’m opening up about why I’ve been so vocal about Gaza and Sudan, how I navigate the fear of backlash, and why I believe using your voice for what matters is worth the risk. It gets emotional, BA Fam, but y’all know I’m here to keep it 100. Former Irish basketball player, current author and activist Rebecca O'Keeffe joins Eoin Sheahan to respond to the statement put out on Friday by Basketball Ireland relating to their decision not to boycott the EuroBasket qualifiers, which will see them play two fixtures against Israel.
While there has been a huge increase in calls for official boycotts against Israel, there is also a rise in “quiet boycotts” in the academic world, where Israelis are shunted aside from conferences, or researchers drop their collaboration with Israeli colleagues and more. Prof. Alon Tal, from Tel Aviv University’s Department of Public Policy and former member of the Knesset, spoke with reporter Arieh O’Sullivan on the phenomenon. The "last thing" Rabbi Rachel Timoner says she wanted to do was block the street in front of New York's Israeli consulate as part of a protest calling on Israel to increase the flow of humanitarian aid in Gaza – let alone get arrested for doing so. The Brooklyn rabbi said on the Haaretz Podcast that when she was asked to take part in the demonstration, she found it impossible to say no. "As a leader of the Jewish community here, as a rabbi, I feel that when Israel is acting in a way that they are claiming is representing Judaism, it's part of my job to show my understanding of what Judaism stands for. We feed the hungry, and we care for the sick, and we free the captives, and we care for the human dignity of every life, of every human life." Timoner, the senior rabbi at Congregation Beth Elohim in Park Slope, spoke on the podcast about the unease among New York Jews since October 7, and the crisis ignited by Zohran Mamdani's victory in the city's Democratic primary. Mamdani, who will once again face voters in the November general election, has been embroiled in controversy over his support for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement and his shifting stance on others on the left calling to “globalize the intifada.” While the city of New York "does not have a foreign policy," Timoner said, it is a "big deal symbolically and in terms of identity to think about the mayor being an anti-Zionist." Timoner says Mamdani must address the question of "how will Zionist New Yorkers know that they are welcome in this city, safe in this city, and know that they are part of his vision for this city." The fact that despite his views, Mamdani received the most primary votes of any candidate, she added, points to the fact "a lot of Jews are feeling profoundly alienated from the behavior and the speech of this Israeli government, feel that it does not represent our values at all, and that it is a shameful degradation of Judaism. I don't know that you could explain the Jewish support for Mamdani without that factor."
