After his death in 1691, his remains were buried in a mausoleum in Greyfriars kirkyard in Edinburgh, where they remained undisturbed until 1998… When a homeless man broke into George's tomb, he discovered the gruesome decomposing remains of plague victims that had been somehow vac-packed by the tomb. Freaked out, the homeless man fled - but he'd disturbed George's resting place and a series of terrifying events in the graveyard followed. Listen now to hear Geordie dive into the case! Michelle follows with the story of Eleanore Zugan, who presents as one of the most authentic poltergeist cases of the last century. In 1925 in rural Romania, 11 year old Eleanore found a coin on the ground, picked it up, against her friend's wishes, and spent the money on sweets, which she ate herself without sharing. Her grandmother told her she was a wicked child and that she'd swallowed the devil. But did she? Because after this incident, strange things began happening to Eleanore – like, poltergeist strange things. Objects would appear out of thin air. Items would mysteriously fly around the room. Scratches and bite marks would appear on Eleanore's body and strange things would happen whenever she was around. Was she haunted? Or was it something else? John McKay in conversation with David Eastaugh https://thejohnmckay.bandcamp.com/album/sixes-and-sevens McKay's influence lives on; many of the most influential guitarists of the past four decades credit him as a major influence - Geordie from Killing Joke, Jim Reid of The Jesus And Mary Chain, U2's The Edge, Thurston Moore, Johnny Marr and even the two guitarists - The Cure's Robert Smith and Magazine's John McGeoch - who followed him in The Banshees. 

 McKay's burgeoning status as the anti-guitar hero was halted when he and Banshees drummer Kenny Morris - at odds with Siouxsie and bassist Steve Severin - fled the band just after the start of a tour supporting the group's second album, Join Hands. It was a weekly music paper scandal, later the subject of a BBC documentary, and Siouxsie's vitriol working its way into the lyrics of a later Banshees b-side, "Drop Dead / Celebration". Aside from a solitary single on Marc Riley's In Tape label nearly a decade later, no music was heard from McKay again. So it comes as a major surprise to learn of a pile of excellent recordings made in the years just after he left The Banshees, unheard by all but a very few, some of which feature drummer Kenny Morris, plus Mick Allen from Rema Rema, Matthew Seligman of the Soft Boys and longer-term collaborator Graham Dowdall and John's wife Linda . . . the latter three of whom are now sadly deceased.

 Sixes And Sevens is an historic lost album. Brazenly genius and bearing fair claim as the lost treasure of the post-punk era, the album collects eleven studio tracks, carefully mastered from original tapes. It's a masterpiece which best speaks for itself.

What happened next was a bizarre set of circumstances that has left police and the public confounded to this day as to what REALLY happened to Mary. There can be a tendency to view folklore as antiquated customs, old legends, or outdated practices. Yet folklore is not disconnected from contemporary life, and is an ever-evolving part of our lived experience. Folk music and folk art are two obvious branches, yet dialect and language is another. Louise Pound refers to dialect as "a species of folklore" while J. D. A. Widdowson described language and folklore as "those twin pillars on which the whole fabric of our cultural traditions rests". True, language does evolve and change over time, but as dialects run parallel to folklore, and preserve traditions in linguistic form, I thought it high time that we visit a specific dialect - mine.
