Welcome back to Stoppage Time with Uncle Rob! This week's episode takes us into one of the most important skills we can develop in today's chaotic information universe—the art of becoming a “Critical Ignorer.” Inspired by my recent conversation with scientific researcher, author, and social-science communicator Matthew Facciani (a.k.a. the Bill Nye of the Social Sciences), this Stoppage Time dives deep into how we can better protect our minds from the nonstop flood of mis- and disinformation surrounding us.In a world where trusted sources have faded and algorithms serve us endless noise, we're left to decide for ourselves what's real, credible, or even human-generated. But as Matthew reminds us, it's not just about being a critical thinker anymore—it's about mastering what we allow into our brains in the first place. Today, I share the simple but powerful techniques I've used since 2020 to guard my attention, reduce digital clutter, and stay intentional about the information I consume. And, unexpectedly, I learned during our conversation that one of my habits is actually a scientifically recognized strategy!I also reflect on why these lessons connect so profoundly with another recent episode featuring Minda Harts, where we explored trust—how we build it, how we lose it, and why it matters. Taken together, these conversations offer a roadmap for navigating life as entrepreneurs, leaders, investors, and conscious humans in an overloaded, combative media landscape. If you've ever asked yourself, “Can I trust this? Should I even pay attention to it?”—this episode is for you.If you've ever felt overwhelmed by the constant buzz of information—this episode is for you.And if you want to understand yourself, others, and your digital world with more clarity—this episode is definitely for you.Grab a warm drink (I've got my heater going here in chilly, pre-winter Los Angeles), settle in, and join me on the journey toward peace, discernment, and a little more intentionality as we all practice becoming better critical ignorers.Peace, joy, love… and a whole lot of discernment.Peace out!

Welcome back to Stoppage Time with Uncle Rob — that sacred space between the end of a long week and the start of whatever the weekend has in store. This week, Los Angeles is gearing up for a rare “rainy winter” stretch, and I'm settling in with you for a thoughtful, creative, and energizing catch-up.In this episode, I reflect on another fast-moving week of 2025—from an eye-opening conversation with Brand Strategist & Designer Lynne Door on Entrepreneurial Thinkers, to a much-needed creative sandbox session with my powerhouse producer, Diana Bernal. Lynne helped us understand what it really takes to build a meaningful brand today: telling your unique story, deeply understanding your audience, and designing with real authenticity. At the same time, Diana and I have been dreaming, experimenting, and tinkering with the future of Stoppage Time itself.Together, we're exploring new ideas to make this show even more valuable and fun for you—whether that means highlighting wisdom from our Entrepreneurial Thinkers guests, answering your questions, digging into insights from our 185+ past episodes, showcasing partner stories, or sharing behind-the-scenes moments from my week. Nothing is off the table… because in the creative sandbox, imagination sets the only limits.Through personal updates—including my knee injury saga, the chaos of American healthcare, and the political moment we're living in—I'm reminded of something essential: we all own our stories. In this age of decentralized media, you don't need permission to share your voice, your lessons, or your ideas. As Lynne said: “We are all our own unique living, breathing brand story waiting to be told.”So join me for this week's journey—part reflection, part inspiration, part brainstorming session—and a whole lot of heart. If you're in LA, stay dry out there… and if you've got creative ideas on how Diana and I can evolve this show for you, reach out. I'm always listening.Wishing you peace, love, joy… and full permission to play in the sandbox of your own life, career, and business.
Forgive the tardiness on the release, but we're here to talk halfway point of the Europa & Conference League league phases! The Europa League gave us quests for perfection and imperfection alike. The French, Scots, and Dutch had nightmare days, losing all over the continent and missing out on precious points. We spend more time on Nice's unbelievable winless run in the tournament — with plenty of stats to back it up — then delve into Scotland's persistent struggles in European competition. What's gone wrong for Scottish football? Is there any room for optimism? Meanwhile, Germany and Spain go 3 for 3, and Midtjylland (!) won their 4th consecutive UEL game to remain tip top of the table. We share out appreciate for the Danes, their exceptional roster of players, and their young coach who may or may not get a cheers at the end of the show. Not to be outdone, the Conference League delivered 2 stoppage time winners from Rayo Vallecano and Mainz (over the hapless Fiorentina) and 2 more stoppage time equalizers. We talk through the importance of those results and marvel at the madness of Lincoln Red Imps, Drita, and KuPS all sitting in knockout place at the league phase midpoint. All that, some table takeaways, and David's Coefficient Corner on this week's show! Cheers to Mike Tullberg!
On this week's episode of The Joy of Football, we first have our usual 'Three of the Best', featuring players (and managers) from Manchester City, Spurs, Chelsea and more! Then, we NEED to talk about Belgium, Barca, Newcastle and Fulham - for a variety of reasons. Next is Martin's Letter from the Gantry, about Wolves and the 'Spice Girls of the day'. Next is Neil's VOICE OF PASSION, where he explains the struggle managers have with games, immediately following an International Break. And we end with a quick Stoppage Time, in which Neil raises the choice to remain on your 'country's time' whilst playing in VASTLY different time zones. Hey hey, it's Uncle Rob!
Supporter culture doesn't start with a logo. It starts with people who show up, test ideas in the real world, and build a sound that carries a team. We share a stoppage-time highlight reel on how our Arkansas community is shaping a fortress before a pro side even takes the field, dry runs at college matches, chant writing in multiple languages, and a clear plan to make visiting teams dread our end line.We break down the nuts and bolts of atmosphere design: capos, drum patterns, flags, smoke, and march logistics, all tested live instead of kept in a doc. Drawing inspiration from Austin's south end and global terrace traditions, from South America to Europe, we're crafting chants that feel authentic to Northwest Arkansas. That means simple hooks, layered sections for stamina, and a repertoire that welcomes first-timers while rewarding the diehards who never stop singing. There's also a reminder of why this matters beyond ninety minutes. Fans once stopped a breakaway league in just seventy-two hours, proving that organized supporters shape the future of the sport. Our commitment is to listen, stay accountable, and keep the culture open-source: transparent planning in Discord, inclusive leadership, and rituals that reflect the community's voice. If you care about stadium identity, matchday rituals, and the craft of turning noise into impact, you'll find a blueprint here for building a home advantage from the ground up.Enjoyed the ride? Follow and subscribe for more. Share this with a friend who loves terrace culture, and drop your chant or stadium nickname idea in the comments. Your voice can help write the songs we'll sing together.
Hey hey—it's Friday, it's Halloween, and it's time for another round of Stoppage Time with Uncle Rob!In this week's episode, I'm catching up on life, reflecting on Halloween traditions (past and future), and diving deep into the week that was—new Entrepreneurial Thinkers episodes, big developments in California's booming Life Sciences industry, and some personal thoughts on creativity, purpose, and what's next for this very show. You'll hear about my recent conversation with my good friend (and show alum) Dave Whelan as we explore how massive investments and new innovation hubs are shaping the future of Life Sciences in Los Angeles—and how that's changing the way we'll all live and thrive in the years ahead.Beyond that, it's one of those laid-back, honest Fridays where we take a step back and ask: What's this show really about? Has it evolved, or is it ready to evolve again? And how can we make it even more valuable or inspiring for you—our listeners and friends? So grab a coffee (or maybe a little leftover Halloween candy), settle in, and join me for another thoughtful, unscripted hangout full of reflection, inspiration, and a touch of weekend energy.
Today, we revisit a lively conversation with members of Ozark United FC's youth program as they reflect on their recent tournament experiences. The players share what stood out most to them: the pace and physicality of the competition, the importance of communication on the field, and how small details—like warm-up routines and game-day habits—mirror what they've learned under their own coaches. As they discuss what it takes to play at a higher level, listeners get an inside look at how young athletes absorb lessons about teamwork, preparation, and growth. The players talk openly about the challenges of facing bigger, faster opponents and how those moments drive them to improve both technically and mentally. Their reflections remind us that development in soccer is as much about mindset as it is about skill. This Stoppage Time Segment captures the spirit of Pitch to Pro: passion, curiosity, and a love of the game that connects every level of play. Hey hey, Happy Friday, and welcome back to Stoppage Time with Uncle Rob — our weekly Friday ritual to pause, reflect, and connect. This week, Uncle Rob dives deep into one powerful theme that shaped both his professional and personal life: TRUST.From an inspiring conversation with best-selling author and workplace culture expert Minda Harts — exploring the seven trust languages and what it means to build genuine, trust-centered workplaces — to a heartfelt moment celebrating his grandson Leo's first birthday in Griffith Park, Uncle Rob discovers how trust weaves through every part of life.Through laughter, love, and reflection, he connects these moments to a larger question: how do we rebuild trust in each other, in our communities, and in our shared truths during a time when distrust seems to rule our world?Join the conversation as Uncle Rob unpacks lessons from Minda's wisdom, moments of family joy, and his own reflections on the state of our society — all reminding us that trust isn't just a concept… it's the foundation of who we are together.Watch, listen, and take a pause with Uncle Rob — because a little reflection can go a long way toward leaving the world better than we found it.
On the pod this week, Rob and Ethan talk through that very rough 4-0 loss to Omaha and how it wasn't quite as bad as the final score would indicate. The weekend's results give Madison a very narrow path to the playoffs, and we go over the possibilities. Pressure reveals culture. When a match started sliding the wrong way, we broke down the split-second coaching choice that changes everything: speak and control, or listen and trust. What followed was a raw look at accountability on the field, no finger-pointing, just honest self-checks, sharper communication, and a team that chose ownership over excuses. We talk through what calm leadership actually looks like, the subtle cues that guide better decisions, and why restraint can be the most powerful move a coach makes. From there, we zoom out to the bigger picture shaping the region's game. With Ozark United FC entering the scene, recruiting gets a genuine lift: international prospects see a real soccer community, local players feel a tangible pathway, and the standards around training, recovery, and mentality rise. We dive into how a pro presence changes the calculus for athletes and coaches, creating more touchpoints with high-level play, opening doors for standout talents, and building a pipeline where college, academy, and pro connect instead of competing. What excites us most is the community impact. A pro club becomes a weekly ritual, a place where families, alumni, and young players connect with the sport at a higher level. We share how collaboration across youth programs, colleges, and the new club can spark coaching exchanges, joint events, and elevated expectations that benefit everyone. If you care about team culture, player development, and building a real pathway to the pros, this highlight delivers practical insights and a hopeful roadmap for what's ahead. This week on Stoppage Time with Uncle Rob we're diving deep into a concept we all know but often avoid: Tension. But what if tension isn't just stress, discomfort, or friction? What if it's also fuel — for innovation, creative thinking, and breakthrough growth? In this episode, Uncle Rob reflects on the everyday tensions we face as individuals, professionals, and citizens — from political polarization and economic pressure, to personal challenges in entrepreneurship and leadership. He shares inspiration from his time in Chile and the powerful ideas of Jugaad Innovation — where resourcefulness and resilience drive innovation from the ground up, not top-down.
This Stoppage Time release brings you an excerpt from Episode 6 where we traced the unlikely rise of Arkansas adult soccer. In this segment, we spotlight how late-80s street games grew into a full league by the early 90s, weathered disputes and mismatched divisions, and eventually gained official city backing after a period of chaos and community perseverance. We walk through the origin, eight teams, one division, and more passion than resources, and the turning point when Parks & Recreation's support faded, leaving one volunteer to hold the league together for four years. Then comes the inflection: disputes escalate, the mayor intervenes, and a formal role is established to oversee adult leagues and support youth programs. That institutional support transforms the grassroots grind into durable infrastructure, providing players with a fair schedule, coaches with a framework, and the city with a civic asset. From there, we zoom out. The United States still struggles with access: safe pickup spaces, mini-pitches, and affordable routes to good coaching. We make the case for building more small-sided courts in dense neighborhoods, splitting divisions by skill early, and keeping fees low through sponsorships and scholarships. Along the way, we celebrate the volunteer backbone, 95 youth coaches this season alone, captains who lead twenty adults with care, and matchday helpers who keep the experience welcoming. Whether you dream about an Arkansas USL club or simply want more kids touching the ball, this conversation maps how to grow a soccer culture that's open, joyful, and sustainable. If this resonates, follow and subscribe for new episodes, share with a friend who loves the game, and leave a review telling us about the pickup field where it all started for you.

Welcome to this week's episode of Stoppage Time with Uncle Rob — a deep, honest, and hopeful reflection on where we are, where we've been, and the powerful people lighting the way forward.Yes — the title is intentional. And yes — we are nine months into an administration that increasingly echoes authoritarian regimes of the past. But history shows us something important: progress always wins. This episode is more than just political commentary — it's a declaration of resilience, truth, and belief in the unstoppable force of people power. Uncle Rob reflects on the state of democracy, the erosion of First Amendment rights, and the ongoing cultural, legal, and moral battles we're all witnessing here in the U.S.But most importantly, this week's conversation is full of hope — found in the stories of bold, brilliant women of color who are reshaping industries, challenging systems, and leading communities. You'll hear from rising leaders like Amiah Sheppard, whose journey from foster care in Inglewood to the halls of Columbia University and USC is nothing short of incredible — and just one example of the kind of purpose-driven innovation that gives us hope.If you need to feel inspired — genuinely inspired — by the kind of people who are building a better future in the face of political darkness, this episode is for you.Tune in. Feel seen. Stay encouraged. This is what optimistic resistance sounds like.Peace. Joy. Love. And belief in the better days ahead.— Uncle Rob
Mental health has finally entered the sports conversation, but how much progress have we really made? Our latest Stoppage Time episode brings you powerful insights from sports psychology experts who are transforming how we think about the mental game.Gone are the days when sports psychologists merely played "deficit detective." Today's approach balances identifying weaknesses with amplifying strengths, creating personalized strategies for athletes at every level. Our featured expert explains that mental health isn't just relevant to those with clinical diagnoses—it's a "five out of five thing" affecting everyone in varying degrees and frequencies.Professional sports organizations are waking up to this reality, with courageous athletes like Naomi Osaka publicly prioritizing mental wellbeing. But creating environments where players don't suffer in silence remains challenging. When teams focus exclusively on winning, they risk creating transactional cultures where athletes hide their struggles. The most successful organizations now integrate wellbeing as a foundational element of their performance strategy.Perhaps most urgently, we need to transform youth sports culture. While winning naturally becomes important at elite levels, our current system often places inappropriate competitive pressure on young children. Experts point to Canada's long-term athlete development model as a framework that properly balances technical skills with psychological and emotional growth across different developmental stages. Supporting coaches—who are typically enthusiastic about understanding these needs but may lack proper training—represents our best opportunity to create healthier sports environments from the ground up.Ready to hear more conversations that push sports forward? This week, we're diving deep into something that's been weighing heavily on my mind: the rise of the “attention economy” and the erosion of real expertise. In a world where virality often trumps value, and followers are confused for wisdom, we're asking some big questions:When did being seen become more important than being qualified? How did our societal obsession with clicks, likes, and soundbites replace depth, knowledge, and lived experience? What happens when leadership, media, and influence are driven more by popularity than credibility? But this isn't just a rant — this is also a reminder. We had the privilege of reconnecting with Ileana Gonzalez, Director of Emerging Technology & Innovation at retail giant H-E-B, in a conversation that reminded us what true innovation really looks like — rooted in family, trust, people, and culture. This episode is a masterclass in what it means to lead from the inside out, and how meaningful innovation isn't about flashy headlines or viral clips — it's about serving humanity. If you've ever felt overwhelmed by the noise, exhausted by the race for attention, or disheartened by how we measure success today — this conversation is for you.

Soccer history unfolded right in our backyard as the Marshall Islands national team made its international debut at Springdale High School in Northwest Arkansas. What makes this story extraordinary isn't just the debut itself, but the remarkable spirit and progress shown by a team where nearly half the players had never competed in an official 11v11 match before. Coming primarily from futsal backgrounds, these athletes didn't merely participate; they competed with heart, hitting the post against USVI and scoring their first-ever international goals in their second match. The tournament garnered attention from soccer media giants like Men in Blazers and influential voices across social media, bringing deserved recognition to an underrepresented community in global athletics. Witnessing a nation's first-ever official soccer match is a rare privilege, something few fans ever experience. The competition, featuring teams from the U.S. Virgin Islands, Turks and Caicos, and Ozark FC's U19s, aims to become an annual tradition in Northwest Arkansas, our very own regional international tournament.Meanwhile, the MLS Next program has launched with impressive momentum in Northwest Arkansas, attracting approximately 100 players per age group from as many as six different states. The program has united former rivals from competing high schools and clubs onto the same teams, creating an intense training environment where hard tackles and competitive spirit drive mutual improvement. Coaches have been pleasantly surprised by the technical ability and tactical awareness of the region's players, suggesting a bright future for soccer development in Northwest Arkansas. Join us next Thursday for another episode of the Pitch to Pro podcast, as we continue exploring the beautiful game's growth in unexpected places.

Hello Colorado Soccer Fans. This week on Holding The High Line, the Colorado Rapids won against Houston Dynamo on a stoppage time own goal! We discuss an FC Dallas six pointer and more. The guys open with some heavy topics, discussing the gun violence from last week. Also Real Salt Lake kicked a spectator out for wearing a MAGA hat, then apologized to him publicly, and invited him back. This despite wearing political campaign material being against MLS stadium policy. RSL Twitter thinks they found the guy. He's said some bad words and suggested the club send all their foreign players back to where they came from. The we lighten things up, discussing the 2-1 win over Houston Dynamo. The home debuts from Paxten Aaronson, Rob Holding, Rafael Santos, and Alexis Manyoma were good. Cole Bassett scored on a set piece. The winner was a bit of a lucky bounce but it was a much better performance. We discuss some recent press releases from Denver Summit FC. Spoiler, they've got more season ticket holders than the Rapids have ever had, probably. Then we preview FC Dallas. Another mid team with one really good attacker. They've got Lalas Abubakar though. Oh, and Matt talks about his ideas for MLS 30 for 30 documentaries. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Liverpool extended their winning start to the new Premier League campaign as Mohamed Salah converted a penalty in the 95th minute to claim a 1-0 result over Burnley at Turf Moor. In this episode of The Reaction, we will hear the thoughts of Arne Slot and Captain Virgil van Dijk, along with former Reds Ronnie Whelan, Phil Babb, and David Thompson; additionally, fan panel contributions come from Josh Williams and Kim Olthof from the Netherlands OLSC.
When the Rapids backs were against the wall, they showed absolute grit! The Colorado Rapids took the early 1-0 lead behind the one and only Cole Bassett. Then after the half, the Houston Dynamo made it interesting with their own efforts to win by tying it up during the 68th minute. But if you still believe in miracles, the Rapids provided one! Paxten Aaronson, in his home opener with the Rapids, goes on to make it look easy in the 7th minute of stoppage time. 2-1 is the final at DSGP! Connor Cape and Drew Moor had the call from Commerce City!

Hey hey, it's us—Hi! Back again to wrap the week with you, from sunny Los Angeles, where summer lingers while autumn creeps in elsewhere. In this special extended episode, we dive deep into the realities shaping our world—from political chaos and cultural uncertainty to the hopeful power of entrepreneurial thinking that continues to fuel our pragmatic optimism. This week, we sat down with our brilliant friend and mentee Paco Valencia, live from his clinic in Morelia, Mexico, for an eye-opening conversation about the future of prosthetics. Imagine this: over 40 million people worldwide live with prosthetic limbs, yet the design behind them has remained practically untouched for 6,000 years. Paco and his team are changing that narrative—using AI and modern manufacturing to reimagine what's possible for mobility, comfort, and human dignity. But that's just one part of this powerful journey. We also reflect on other inspiring voices from across the globe: from Tijuana's economic revitalization with Adriana Eguia, to rethinking venture capital with Allison Byers, to climate investment in Spain, fintech in Mexico, small business support in Virginia, and clean energy innovation that's leading the way across Latin America. Each conversation is a reminder that while parts of the world feel like they're spinning out of control, there are extraordinary people building a better one. This isn't just a podcast. It's a blueprint for hope.So if you're looking for real talk, meaningful insights, and a little bit of soul to close out your week—pull up a chair. Let's spend some time together.
This Stoppage Time release features a powerful excerpt from our earlier conversation with Woody Watson. In this segment, we spotlight the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) Soccer Tournament — an event that made history by hosting the first-ever Marshallese national team matches at Springdale High School. You'll hear how what began as a grassroots effort has grown into a community-driven movement, building long-term partnerships and laying the groundwork for sustainable development through sport. Organizers share their vision of positioning the annual Outrigger Cup alongside the excitement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, bringing international soccer closer to fans in Northwest Arkansas. At the heart of this story are moving accounts from Marshallese players receiving their first national team call-ups, and the community pride that follows. Beyond the matches, the initiative includes youth clinics, coaching development, and collaboration with the Islander Youth Athletic Outreach Program — all designed to open doors for the next generation.Want to learn more or get involved? This week's episode is a deep, honest, and timely reflection on the thin line between success and failure—and how those two words show up in the lives of entrepreneurs, parents, creatives, and anyone chasing big dreams. As summer winds down and life picks up again, Rob shares a thought-provoking conversation with Lauren Gregor, founder of Rent-A-Romper, who recently sold her startup and opened up about what it truly felt like to “let go” of her company. It's not just about exits, deals, and check sizes—it's about identity, community, self-worth, and defining success on your own terms. This episode is filled with honest stories from Rob's own entrepreneurial journey and lessons from over 15 years of interviewing founders around the world. If you've ever wondered whether you're doing enough, or if a quiet moment in your life is a sign of failure rather than growth, this conversation is for you.Whether you're a founder, dreamer, investor, or just someone navigating life's transitions, this is an invitation to slow down and listen deeply. You're not alone—and your life is worth more than your startup.
Our latest Stoppage Time episode reveals the extraordinary efforts of a volunteer team spanning three continents who are determined to ensure the Marshall Islands' place in football history. The urgency is palpable as Woody Watson explains why this initiative matters: "A nation that possibly might not exist in some capacity in 10 years is able to get their first matches played, is able to have something out there that says, yes, we got this done in time." These islands, barely feet above sea level, represent ground zero for climate change impacts. We dive into the story behind the award-winning "No Home Kit" – a brilliant white uniform with portions that appear to have dissolved away, symbolizing the gradual erosion of the Marshall Islands' landmass. This powerful visual metaphor recently earned international recognition in Spain, bringing critical exposure to the Marshall Islands' plight and generating donations for sustainability efforts.Perhaps most remarkable is that this entire initiative runs on passion alone. A team of 20-25 dedicated volunteers across multiple time zones has created something truly impactful without any compensation. From broadcasting specialists donating camera equipment to coaches with international experience, these individuals overcome significant logistical challenges to work together toward a common goal. What starts as a sports development story transforms into something much more profound, a testament to human resilience, global collaboration, and the power of football to shine a light on our planet's most urgent crises. Listen now to discover how the beautiful game is becoming a lifeline for a nation on the brink of disappearing.
In this warm, reflective episode recorded under the summery skies of Los Angeles, Uncle Rob dives deep into a theme that's been following him all week: Gratitude. From unexpected blessings to navigating challenges with a clearer heart, this episode is filled with stories, insights, and powerful reminders about what it means to live and lead with intention. You'll hear Rob reflect on the incredible conversation he had with Jamilah Corbitt on Entrepreneurial Thinkers, and how her wisdom around storytelling, community-building, and authentic leadership has left a lasting impression — all grounded in a spirit of joy and gratitude. If you're an entrepreneur, creator, or someone chasing big dreams, this episode will feel like a deep breath and a push forward at the same time.Rob also opens up about the journey of building his new media company, the importance of trusted collaborators, and those beautiful, serendipitous moments that come when others believe in your vision — sometimes before the world does.Whether you're at a turning point, on the grind, or just in need of some soul-fueling perspective, this episode is for you.

In this special Stoppage Time edition of the Pitch to Pro podcast, we dive into one of the show's most personal and vivid storytelling moments: a heartfelt memory about watching MLS veteran Jack Jewsbury in action. The segment from Episode 46 with Ross Cully features reflections on how an unassuming trip to Portland turned into a deep lesson in soccer culture, as he recalls traveling with his young son to see Jewsbury captain the Timbers in front of the legendary Timbers Army. Their experience went beyond just watching a match. It was about being enveloped in the color, chants, and traditions that define Portland's fan culture, even coming away with Jewsbury's captain's armband as a priceless souvenir. The episode also explores Jewsbury's career trajectory, from college at SLU to the Kansas City Wizards and ultimately Portland, painting a vivid contrast between the early, sparse crowds at Arrowhead Stadium and the electric, sold-out atmosphere in the Pacific Northwest. It's a testament not only to the growth of MLS but to the way authentic supporter culture can transform a city's sporting identity. The conversation brims with admiration for the local traditions, like the chainsaw-cutting of the victory log, underscoring why the Timber's matchday experience is often held up as the gold standard in American soccer.Beyond nostalgia, the segment turns reflective and even strategic, highlighting why these kinds of experiences matter for investors and club-builders in emerging markets like Northwest Arkansas. Ross notes how going to matches in Kansas City with his own kids, and even his initially skeptical parents, showed the sport's multigenerational appeal and the surprise fans often feel when they realize soccer's live atmosphere can be more intimate, accessible, and engaging than bigger, more corporate American sports experiences. It's a compelling argument for how clubs can win over communities by delivering something that feels both special and inclusive. Finally, the episode closes by linking personal memories to a broader vision: the changing demographics and rising youth interest in soccer in the U.S. We discuss how younger generation's fandom, from the jerseys they wear to the games they want to attend, reveals a generational shift that smart clubs and investors need to embrace. This Stoppage Time moment isn't just a feel-good story; it's a call to see the potential for soccer to unify diverse communities, create lasting memories, and help grow the game in regions like Northwest Arkansas.
This week on Stoppage Time with Uncle Rob, we dive deep into the very human—and very powerful—theme of resilience. In a world full of uncertainty and transition, how do we keep showing up? How do we keep building, creating, and believing?Rob shares insights from a heartfelt and energizing conversation with Andres Friedman, Co-founder and CEO of Solfium, a solar energy company working to revolutionize customer experience in Mexico's clean energy sector. From his pivot from a global aviation executive to a first-time entrepreneur, Andres' journey is a masterclass in embracing discomfort, persistence, and steady progress—despite the chaos around us.But this episode goes beyond one story. Rob reflects on his own path of transformation—both personal and professional—and weaves in powerful lessons from recent guests on Entrepreneurial Thinkers, including Jocelyn Ramirez of Todo Verde, Roy Scott of Urban Disney, and Bismarck Lepe of MiSalud Health. The common thread? Consistency. Courage. Community. If you're navigating your own season of change—or just need a reminder that forward is the only way—this episode is for you. It's raw, honest, and hopeful.Let's keep pushing. Let's keep believing. And let's do it together.
This Stoppage Time edition of the Pitch to Pro podcast features a focused look at the role of vision in entrepreneurship, regional development, and professional sports ownership, all through the lens of Northwest Arkansas' rapid transformation. In this short segment from Episode 45, we revisit a conversation with Ross Cully that highlights how NWA's explosive growth has forced local leaders to recalibrate their benchmarks, no longer comparing the region to peer markets it has now surpassed. You'll hear reflections on what it means to think beyond the present, both for cities and businesses. As NWA evolves, local leaders are wrestling with the need to plan infrastructure and policy around who the region wants to become in 20 years, not just who it is today. That forward-thinking mindset also parallels the entrepreneurial journey, where taking leaps before others see the potential is often what sets long-term success in motion.Ross shares the early days of building The Harvest Group, a story filled with grit, risk, and the necessity of persuading others to believe in a vision that didn't yet exist. These same principles carry over into the creation of Ozark United FC, where club founders are again being asked to forecast trends and commit to an idea ahead of the market. This clip captures the tension and excitement of growth, the burden and privilege of leadership, and the deep need for clarity of vision, whether you're shaping a company, a sports club, or an entire region's future. It's a snapshot of the ideas driving NWA's momentum and the people courageous enough to lead it.
