Jenna Loren, a Northern BC based independent artist, has been rocking out on her guitar since age 13 when she strummed a poem to an Alanis song on her old Yamaha. Her music style was inspired by her Mother Michelle Prins and many influential female singers from Tracy Chapman to Jewel. Having grown up in Ontario, Jenna attended Peterborough Collegiate Vocational School's unique Integrated Arts Program with fellow Canadian musicians (such as Serena Ryder, Kelly McMichael, Brock Stonefish, Daniel Fortin, Benj Rowland, Caylie Staples, Jonah Cristall-Clarke, and Director Jared Raab). Since becoming active on TikTok in late February 2022, Jenna's attracted over 6000 followers, and goes live often, especially during 'Saturday Sessions' where she co-hosts a live music train alongside New Zealand's Crystal Starr. Last summer Jenna was humbled to perform in the women's festival Wild Women Grow and the Moose FM Block Party. In 2022 her single "You Can't Give Up" was featured in CBC Music's Toyota Searchlight contest, where Jenna was interviewed by several radio stations. Jenna has enjoyed recent performances such as Canada Day at Burleigh Falls Inn in Ontario, Bright Nights for the North Peace Cultural Centre and Moose FM, as well as Energetic County Fair's Rising Star competition at the Pub in Charlie Lake. She is also looking forward to being Stage Crew for the Bear Creek Folk Fest again this summer, featuring Sarah McLachlan and Blue Rodeo. When Jenna was 18, she moved to the west coast, where she busked Victoria's inner harbour and street markets, and held a weekly spot at Bastion Square. Jenna's performance venues ranged from Ocean Island Inn to the world renowned Butchart Gardens, and was an open mic regular at Darcy's Pub and Felicita's at UVic. Busking one day, a $20 bill was casually dropped into her case. It was from singer songwriter Kevin Woodward. He made Jenna a deal – that he'd help her record her first album if she vowed to pay-it-forward one day. That's the story of how Jenna's 2005 Overabundantly album came to fruition, and she fully intends on keeping her promise. Jenna's discography continued with her 2011 EP “It's Perfect Timing,” recorded at Infinity Studios with producer Jason Cook, featuring lead guitarist Christian Down. It exerts a raw soulful quality, and many of its songs are environmentally inspired. Jenna's single You Can't Give Up was released to radio across Canada and chosen for the Rock'in the Peace Compilation and showcase at the North Peace Cultural Centre in 2012. With awesome reviews, she was asked to open for Juno award-winning Russell DeCarle at the Lido Theatre. Jenna has performed on TV shows The New Canoe song writing episode with Kinnie Starr and Art Napoleon in 2007 and MYTV with Niska Napoleon in 2009. She's played live on Victoria's CFUV Radio and Peterborough's Trent Radio, and has been aired on many stations from Moose FM to CBC Radio One All Points West. In May 2010, Jenna's "Andrew" song was included on Feed the Soul vol.2 Compilation, a food bank fundraiser organized by musicians. In fall of 2017, Jenna opened two sold out shows for the Twin Peaks (Lindsay Pratt & Naomi Shore) Aussie Tour Kickoff Show at Whole Wheat 'n Honey in Fort St John. In early 2018, she performed original songs and acted in the Vagina Monologues, a Women's Resource Society fundraiser. In April 2019, Jenna was a main headliner for the Women Song concert at the Lido Theatre. #jennaloren #independentartist #musician #songwriter #chrispomay #livewithcdp #barrycullenchevrolet #wellingtonbrewery https://www.jennaloren.ca/home https://beacons.ai/chrisdpomay https://www.cameo.com/chrispomay Want to create live streams like this? Although Christians are followers of the Truth, many find themselves tempted by the alternate “truths” offered by conspiracy theories. Christianity and conspiracy theories have had a long, complicated relationship. But today conspiracy theories are bringing our already polarized society to the brink of chaos. QAnon, the Big Lie, and anti-vaccination theories thrive online, disrupting faith communities. This timely essay collection explores the allure of conspiracy theories and their consequences—and ultimately offers gospel-based paths forward. Heather sits down with her husband, Jason Cook, to discuss fatherhood. Listen as Jason shares his heart and shares how being a father has impacted him.
When Jason and I started dating, my little brothers would tease me asking why I was dating a guy who felt ALL too comfortable in tight spandex biking shorts. I think they hoped this would be a short fling considering that spandex weren't exactly "cool" to two young teenage boys. Fast forward eight years and now they don't think twice about the spandex and have accepted this simply as a "personality trait" of their brother-in-law who they look up to and respect lots. I learned early on that Jason is unapologetically himself -- spandex and all! Jason grew up in the Harvard Yale area of Salt Lake City. He is one of five children and has a special bond with each of his siblings. Having to keep up with an older brother (some of you may know him!) who was big, fast and athletic, he was pushed in ways he probably wouldn't have been pushed otherwise. He was small but mighty. The size of the fight in this small dog was huge! This ended up paying off as he excelled athletically at East High and beyond -- he was a varsity soccer captain two years in a row, football captain and played quarterback his senior year leading the team to the state finals. He truly could have played any sport and done well. Jason is a natural leader. There is a humble confidence in which Jason carries himself and it shows in how he interacts with people. He makes others feel important and comfortable, striking up conversations easily while genuinely interested in their lives. He leads quietly, without wanting the spotlight. Jason loves reading, snow skiing, water skiing, trail running and is a big adrenaline junkie at heart. He feels more comfortable doing some kind of complex flip off of any 60+ foot cliff rather than just jumping and used to spend hours in the terrain park perfecting crazy ski tricks. All these things come naturally to him. Jason went on to graduate in Finance from the University of Utah and now works for a local Venture Capital firm, Epic Ventures. His passion for cycling began in his early college years. I think he would say the three things that helped him develop a deep love for the sport were: his LDS mission to the Netherlands (where there are more bikes than cars), "Creighton's Riders" and his brother Jake who introduced him to the Mi Duole crew. Combining the simple joy that being in the saddle brings with the pure physical grit, mental toughness, early mornings, dedication, challenging climbs, sunrise rides, and friendship that come with it, he really has fallen in love. Not just with the sport of cycling, but with Mi Duole and the people who make up Mi Duole. Jason has competed in countless races including Lotoja, Saints to Sinners, The Tour of St. George, Crusher in the Tushar, The Wasatch All-Road, and "his version" of The Ultimate Challenge. He loves competing, but he loves people and his relationships with those people even more. Of all the things that come naturally to Jason, his role of "father" has come the most natural. He was born to be the "girl dad" he is to our one-year-old, Louisa. Recently, his morning bike rides have started earlier with some fewer and farther between since stepping into this role. Yet somehow he still hits personal records and pushes himself to become his best self -- both on and off the bike. Jason is constant, resilient, happy, fun, passionate, loyal, kind, strong, genuine and just plain old GOOD. If you know him, you love him! His girls feel so lucky to be on this ride of life alongside him.

This week we get serious and hear a duck hunting story that came awfully close to having a bad ending. Like many of us want to do, Jason Cook found himself duck hunting during a major freeze up. When his dog fell through the ice on a long retrieve and couldn't get out…like all of us would, he started to his dog in attempt to save him. It a perilous situation and when Jason falls through the ice himself and can't touch bottom, it gets even worse. We recorded this podcast hoping to remind duck hunters how dangerous things can get and what to do in case you find yourself in a bad situation. This is one you might want to share with a friend. Fall harvest season is underway throughout the U.S., wrapping up a year with higher costs of production, volatile markets and a myriad of weather issues, including massive drought in the West.“It has definitely been a challenging year,” remarked Redox Bio-Nutrients agronomist Jared Sannar. “Mother Nature threw us some difficulty… I would say it has been a pretty challenging year, but we're wrapping things up, are well into harvest for most of the crops, and looking forward to putting this one to bed.”Growers in the nation's leading agricultural state, California, saw more than its share of challenges this year. An untimely freeze caused a massive hit on the almond crop. Drought left an estimated half-million acres of farm ground unplanted this year. Grower Mitchell Yerxa of River Vista Farms in Colusa County is also a pilot and said an aerial view of the usually abundant west side of the Sacramento Valley provides an indication of the extent of the drought toll.“If you can see something from a different angle or different perspective, you have a whole different understanding than you did before,” he said. “So, when you're on Interstate 5 and you're driving north and you're looking to the west and don't see a rice field planted, ok it's one rice field. But when you're up 1,000 feet, or 3,000 feet, and you look down and don't see a single acre planted for miles, it gives you perspective that there are many farms and many parts of this community that are going to be dramatically affected when for miles there's not a single acre planted.”Fall harvests continue, from Idaho potatoes and Iowa corn to Texas cotton and California walnuts. Redox agronomists are working with growers to maximize yield, quality and return on investment. One impediment to this goal is excess salt in parched fields.“In my region, the southern San Joaquin Valley, there's a lot of salt issues,” said Redox agronomist Justin Rose. “A lot of growers are using groundwater, bringing up salty, sodium bicarbonates. A lot of them, in the places of low calcium, are positioning PeneCal and Mainstay Calcium there, to help build that soil structure and to help move salts through it. In other regions where they're not able to hold the moisture, with lighter soil, we've been able to combat the salt buildup with H-85. Using the combination of the high carbon product of humics and fulvics – one, to help buffer salts out and two, to make the nutrients needed available." When the off-season arrives, preparation can help growers position themselves well for the new year, including sustainable practices.“One of those things that we really pay attention to is soil preparation, especially for potatoes,” said Redox agronomist Jason Cook. “I think this is applying more and more, as we look at some different sustainability scenarios, is looking at how we take care of our soil and implementing strategies that promote more health benefits and more nutrient cycling benefits. One of those scenarios is looking at crop residue and how we're managing that, as far as what's being taken away. For example, in wheat straw or barley straw, how much organic material is being pulled away from the farm and what has to be replaced to help balance the soils and keep the system functioning.” Maintaining strong roots another important factor. “One of my main philosophies is to grow better plants, you have to grow better roots,” said Redox agronomist Jeff Yoder. “A strong foundation of roots underneath that crop gives you more root interception zones, more area covered to pull moisture from if you have times of drought stress. I get the rebuttal all the time that ‘we're not growing roots, we're growing apples,' but, in order to grow apples, you need roots. That investment in a strong foundation of roots pays big dividends.”

Jason Cook is an American Cowboy that had a huge influence by his great grandfather. When someone tries to explain the term “humble”, they just need to have a 5 minute conversation with Jason. He believes in a solid foundation is the root to all great horses! To excel with your equine you need to have consistency and quality. In smartness, he ranks equine in this order (in general): Mules, mares, studs, and geldings. He is more of a horse man and prefers mares! That right there is enough reason to admire this man. The next paragraph was taken from a flier of a clinic that was at Von Holten Ranch. www.jc-horsemanship.comThis clinic will work on creating a versatile horse with a focus on body positioning, creating a giving equine, and rating to different speeds. If you have a horse that is SOUR to competing, this is an area of specialty for Jason. Jason is a professional competitor and judge in numerous ranch and stock horse associations.
