Money is at the centre of many things we do, but what is your relationship to money telling you about the way you value and see yourself in the world. In this episode Merideth Bisiker shares her journey through financial trauma to a healthy money relationship. She shares the shame that so many people carry around finances and how important it is to be open and aware of your financial health. Paula and Merideth discuss getting curious with your money story and how to avoid recreating the same environment as an entrepreneur that you were leaving when you quit your 9-5. In this episode we chat about: Becoming colleagues with those you used to look up to. How Merideth created a new money story and became a money coach. Where to start when you feel “broke”. Why spending money feels so good. Building new habits to grow out of a burnout situation. And so much more! Merideth and her family have lived on the traditional, ancestral and stolen lands of the Coast Salish people, specifically Qualicum First Nation, since 2006. In settler terms, this is Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Merideth is an ICF-accredited professional life and business coach with a 25+ year background working in banking and government and non-profit finance. She's passionate about helping people discover how to give themselves permission to be creative and genuine as they carve out new paths for themselves. In her coaching practice, she supports leaders who are focused on setting fresh boundaries at work, allowing them to free up time and energy to work in their zones of genius and transition to more fulfilling opportunities. Merideth specializes in supporting clients who work in the private business and non-profit sectors. As a white, cis-gender, middle-class women born in Canada, descended from multiple generations of Europeans settled in North America, I recognize my responsibility to support and develop genuine ally-ship to people marginalized by the system. Merideth's intention is to create safe coaching and workshop spaces for our clients so that they can focus on exploration of themselves and taking part in coaching and workshop conversations. When she's not coaching or learning more about coaching, neuroscience, and equity in the workplace, you'll usually find her writing, reading, or practicing music (winter), or on a road trip to a beach somewhere on Vancouver Island (summer). What if the worst thing that could happen – DOES happen? If we can prepare for life and death situations, and expect the worst-case-scenario to happen, how would that change the way we work and live? And what are some ways we can prepare for it? On this episode, that's exactly what we'll be unpacking. Merideth Bisiker went from being a childhood friend of Grammy-winning Michael Buble, to surviving a bomb threat, to singing in a band, to being a certified money coach. Today, she talks about: Hidden reasons people don't often talk about money, and what that meant for business owners. Preparing the unexpected, when she survived a bomb-threat. Key lessons from knowing Grammy winner Michael Buble and how he grew up. Turning being a mom of children with disabilities to effective and purposeful work. After 20-years in management, Amber Howard took her love of nature in New Zealand to Canada, motorcycle-riding, to now teaching at University of Toronto and sharing with others: How her great uncle wrote a book about being the British spy that Ian Fleming allegedly based James Bond. Being in an accident with her brother on a farm and what she learned from that experience. Ways our relationship with money affects our results and quality of life.
