What does it cost to walk away from one of Hollywood’s most powerful legal positions to pursue your true passion? Steve Bardwil spent years as Chief Counsel for Walt Disney Studios, overseeing legal affairs for Marvel, Pixar, Lucasfilm, and more—negotiating billion-dollar deals and working alongside industry titans like Steve Jobs, Alan Bergman, and Kevin Feige. But behind the prestigious business cards and high-stakes meetings, he was writing songs, leading a band, and wrestling with a question that wouldn’t let go: What if there’s more? Welcome to the Takin A Walk podcast and join Buzz Knight on this inspiring music story with singer-songwriter Steve Bardwil. In 2024, Steve Bardwil made the decision that seemed crazy to everyone around him—he left Disney to pursue music full-time. One year later, he released his critically acclaimed debut album “Nothing But Time,” produced by 11-time Grammy winner Joe Chiccarelli (Elton John, U2, Beck, The Killers). Now he’s heading back into East West Studios to record his sophomore effort. In this inspiring music interview , Steve shares the emotional journey of redefining his identity beyond the Disney empire, the moment he cold-called Joe Chiccarelli (and actually got a callback), and what happened when one of music’s most legendary producers transformed his songs in ways he never imagined. From opening for Donovan Frankenreiter and Lyle Lovett while still at Disney, to learning the recording process from scratch, to writing “Send Them Love”—a song resonating with anyone who’s faced online negativity—Steve Bardwil and his story is about courage, reinvention, and refusing to live with “what if.” He also reveals his Beatles origin story (Dodger Stadium, 1966), the bittersweet reality of walking away from a career that defined him, and his advice for anyone contemplating their own leap: “At the end of your life, you can say ‘I tried’ or ‘I wish I would have.’ Don’t be the person who says ‘I wish I would have.’” Featured Topics: Career reinvention, music production with Joe Chiccarelli, working at Walt Disney Studios, songwriting process, recording at East West Studios, overcoming self-doubt, “Send Them Love,” Beatles at Dodger Stadium, following your passion later in life Keywords #legendary musician #legendary musican interview #knight #walk #weekly music history #kegendary musician #career breakthrough Support the show: https://takinawalk.com/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Jerry Douglas - King of the Dobro- 16 Grammys, 3 CMAs, 3 AMAs, a Million Stories! 16-time Grammy Winner, three-time CMA Musician of the Year award recipient, Americana Music Association Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship award winner, Artist in Residence for the Country Music Hall of Fame, Jerry Douglas, is such an underachiever! What is a dobro? Uninformed minds wanted to know. Jerry schooled us, but as your fun favorite professor would. Why a dobro? We got that education too. From his bluegrass-playing steelworker band on the side, father, Flatt and Scruggs obsessed little kid, to professional musician at 16, playing Avery Fischer Hall with headliner David Bromberg, to winning his first Grammy at 19, to playing with James Taylor, John Prine, Steve Goodman, Mumford & Sons, Paul Simon, Elvis Costello, Alison Krauss, to Eric Clapton. We got the skinny on all of them, plus Jerry's chance meeting with Sir Paul, a seemingly scary Ry Cooder, recording in Abby Road, dinner with Clapton and Ron Wood, how he met his bride of 17 years, parenting 4, grandparenting 7, loving all of them, all of it, except the night of extreme excess that led to his sobriety. Bonus, he also played us out, as only dobro master, Jerry Douglas, could. I knew when Snuffy and I spent an evening in Nashville recently with Jerry and Jill that he'd be a great guest, as with his playing, he exceeded all expectations. Jerry Douglas Live on Game Changers with Vicki Abelson Wednesday, 1/14/26, 5 PM PT/ 8 PM ET

Peso Pluma BioSnap a weekly updated Biography.Peso Pluma continues his meteoric ascent as one of the defining voices in Latin music, with recent days marking some of the most biographically significant milestones of his career. Just this week, headlines erupted after his Grammy-winning album GéNESIS clinched the award for Best Música Mexicana Album on October 14, a major industry validation that underscores Peso Pluma's crossover impact beyond the Latin charts. PopFiltr notes that this win cements his place among the most influential contemporary Mexican artists, further spotlighting his signature corridos tumbados now firmly embedded in the global pop landscape. He is also set to receive the prestigious Billboard Vanguard Award at the 2025 Billboard Latin Music Awards, which airs live from Miami on Telemundo October 23; Latin Times describes this honor as a testament to his groundbreaking influence and boundary-pushing creativity at a relatively young age. The upcoming awards show is a hotspot for the Latin music industry and Peso Pluma's presence there is a signal that he's now an enduring figure, not just a fleeting sensation. On the business and live performance front, Complex reports that Peso Pluma will take the stage at ComplexCon Las Vegas on October 25–26, where he'll perform alongside global acts like Young Thug and YEAT. This appearance, also teased through artist-driven posts on Threads and other social platforms, further solidifies him as a festival favorite of the streaming age, a musician whose appeal bridges genres and continents.A major surprise moment came at the recent sold-out Kali Uchis concert at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. Variety describes how Peso Pluma joined Uchis on stage for the first-ever live rendition of their Latin Grammy-nominated duet Igual Que Un Ángel. Social media buzzed with clips from the event, with fans raving about the chemistry and stage presence that makes Peso Pluma magnetic to younger audiences and cross-genre collaborators alike. On the personal side, Peso Pluma continues to share glimpses of his private life on platforms like Instagram, where posts about his family and longtime girlfriend Hanna Howell draw tens of thousands of likes. People Magazine and Rolling Stone have spotlighted his roots in Guadalajara and Sinaloa, noting he keeps his parents Rubi Laija and Hassan Kabande largely out of the limelight while crediting them for his work ethic and musical inspiration. With Grammy wins, Billboard honors, high-profile festival performances, and viral duet moments, Peso Pluma is not just having a moment—he's rewriting the definition of what it means to be a global Mexican music star in 2025.Get the best deals https://amzn.to/3ODvOtaThis content was created in partnership and with the help of Artificial Intelligence AI
Ever wonder who helps legendary musicians share their stories with the world? In this episode, Team Derringer (Laura, Alton, and Paul) chats with the incredible Anne Leighton, a top-tier music publicist, artist representative, poet, and public speaker from NYC. Anne pulls back the curtain on her fascinating career and gives us the inside scoop on what it's like to work with some of the biggest names in music. She also shares tales of writing for top music mags and the art -- and heart -- of championing artists from every corner of rock and pop. The group unpacks what a publicist actually does (think equal parts strategist, storyteller, and stubbornness), how long promoter-artist relationships can last, and why publicity is marathon work dressed up like a sprint. The hosts keep it snappy with playful banter and music snippets that prove the point. Get ready for a walk through rock and roll history! Anne shares stories about her work with the iconic Jethro Tull and its flute-wielding frontman, Ian Anderson, the masterminds behind classics like "Aqualung" and the jaw-droppingly long 43-minute song, "Thick as a Brick." Then we groove to the 70s with tales of the band Orleans, who gave us the timeless hits "Dance with Me" and "Still the One." Plus, you'll hear some amazing trivia, like how Orleans' leader, John Hall, took a detour from music to serve in the U.S. Congress. We cap it off with the brilliant, Grammy-winning trio, The String Revolution, and discuss their stunning instrumental covers of hits like Michael Jackson's "Billy Jean" and Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train." This conversation was so good, we had to make it a two-parter! After accepting the title of Honorary Derringer, Anne agreed to come back in a few weeks to talk about three more amazing artists! In 2021 he premiered a work in honor of former Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. He's worked with conductors JoAnn Falletta and Lucas Richman. Episode 87: Daya At 16 years old, still in high school, Daya dropped “Hide Away” with no label, no team, no social following. Just a song she believed in. It exploded, racked up hundreds of millions of streams, and suddenly she was on the radio while still in class. She followed it with “Sit Still, Look Pretty,” then connected with The Chainsmokers to record “Don't Let Me Down,” one of the biggest hits of the 2010s. We talk about how that collaboration came to be, what it was like for her life to flip so fast, and what it felt like to win a GRAMMY at just 18. We also get into how she built her team, what she learned from the major label system, and how she eventually got her masters back. She explains the move to go independent, what that freedom means to her, and how she's evolved as both an artist and a person over the past decade. Now she's stepping into a brand new era with music like “Infrared”, “Demise”, "Bandit" and an upcoming new album "Til Every Petal Drops." exploring a darker and more electronic sound. We dive into the process behind these songs, the producers she's been working with, and what's next. I hope you love my conversation with the amazing, Daya! Special thanks to Apogee Electronics. I interviewed Rosanne Cash, a 4-time Grammy winner who's been writing songs for over 40 years. She's mastered something most writers struggle with: turning raw emotion into beautiful, lasting songs. She writes songs like a painter, starting with visual images, and brings the same rhythmic approach to both music and prose. We talked about how to turn pain into art, why anger and grief are powerful creative forces, how to deconstruct great songs to learn from masters like Bob Dylan, and how to develop your authentic voice through decades of deliberate practice. If you want to write with more emotional depth and turn life's difficulties into meaningful art, this conversation will show you how.
