The founders of Activ Fitness in Huntersville join The Best of LKN podcast in this episode. It goes without saying that the two most competitive small business categories (that aren't technically professional services) are food and fitness. Whether strictly digital, brick & mortar, or a combination of the two, competition in these two categories is fierce. They also happen to be two of our favorite categories to cover. So, when there's a new restaurant concept in town, you better believe we're going to write about it. And when a new fitness concept opens up, we're inviting the founders to join us here on the podcast. In this episode, we're talking about a brand new fitness concept in Huntersville, and joining us are the founders of the company - two brothers that bring very different skillsets to their enterprise.Brothers Carson and Michael Rutledge joined forces in 2022 to open Activ Fitness in Huntersville. Carson is a lifelong student of fitness and a practicing pediatric dentist. Michael brings his experience in computer programming and entrepreneurship to the venture. We discuss all things Activ Fitness in this episode, but also cover several topics around the myths and challenges of entrepreneurship. Fitness, nutrition, community, and entrepreneurship - we discuss it all in this very enlightening episode 121 of Lake Norman's #1 small business podcast. Enjoy getting to know Carson and Michael Rutledge, the brothers behind Activ Fitness.Activ Fitness14212 Statesville Road, Huntersville, NC 28078(704) 727-0815Shoutouts:Clean Eatz CafeMbrace Studio (Whole30)Metabolic NutritionSign up for The Best of LKN Email Newsletter HERE!Advertise with The Best of LKN! Michael enlisted in the Navy as a Naval Aircrewman and Helicopter Rescue Swimmer. After Basic Training, his first assignment was Guam, and aside from deploying in support of resupply operations, he found the monotony taxing. He volunteered for Basic Underwater Demolition / SEAL Training, and was accepted. After SEAL school, he was assigned to SEAL Team One, and completed several deployments in the Southeast Asia region. After a stint as a SEAL Advanced Training Instructor, he was accepted into the Army Warrant Officer Program and Flight School. Finishing first in his flight school class, he applied for, and was accepted into, the 2nd Battalion of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR), the Night Stalkers, at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. After three years at Fort Campbell, he moved to Joint Base Lewis-McChord when the 4th Battalion of the 160th was activated. In thirteen years in the 160th SOAR, he completed sixteen deployments, flying variations of the MH-47. After leaving the 160th SOAR, he was assigned as the commander of the 2nd Aviation Detachment at West Point, flying the UH-72 Lakota. This is one of only two commands open to Aviation Warrant Officers in the Army. After retirement from the military Michael stays busy as an Agriculture Aviator, Fire pilot, and working for Thrush Aircraft.

As far back as he can remember, Michael Rutledge wanted to be a Naval Aviator. He lacked the grades to get him there, so he enlisted in the Navy, eventually becoming a Navy SEAL. Unable to ignore his desire to fly in the military, after 8 years as a SEAL, Rutledge started the process to transfer to the Army to fly helicopters. All of this happened not long before 9/11. Despite his love for the Teams and its inherent brotherhood, Rutledge felt a greater calling to make it into the aviator ranks and fly in combat. He would be one of the very few aviators that would go from flight school straight into the Army's elite 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. Rutledge shares with us the high's and low's of his journey, and what it meant to be a part of some of the military's most daring and precise missions, on this latest edition of HAZARD GROUND!  Do your Amazon shopping with us, and give back to veterans organizations at the same time!
