EPISODE TITLE: From New in Town to Top 10: How Events Built a Referral Business HOST: Michael J. Maher GUEST: Christine Pandolf DESCRIPTION: What if you moved to a brand-new city, knew almost nobody, and had to build a thriving referral-based business from scratch? That's exactly what Christine Pandolf did. After relocating from Upstate New York to the Lake Norman area of North Carolina, Christine obtained her real estate license during COVID and began searching for ways to build relationships and generate referrals. Through Referral Mastery Academy and the Event Mastery system, she discovered a repeatable process for creating meaningful events that bring people together, strengthen community connections, support local charities, and generate business. Today, Christine hosts multiple annual events including Spring Fling, Pie Day, community pool parties, and a monthly book club that has become one of her most consistent sources of referrals and revenue. In this episode, Christine shares how she plans events 6-8 weeks in advance using the Event Mastery system, uses formal snail-mail invitations combined with personal video texts, leverages sponsors to offset costs, and creates experiences people genuinely want to attend. You'll also hear the incredible story of the event she couldn't attend because she was sick—yet the event still ran flawlessly, generated referrals, and proved that a great system can work even when the host isn't present. Most importantly, Christine shares the emotional moment she realized she had built an incredible community around her business after moving to North Carolina knowing only her son. If you've ever wondered whether events really work, this episode is proof that they do. Jeff sits down with Mike Feeley of Ivester Jackson Distinctive Properties to talk about the west side of Lake Norman — specifically Denver, Sherrills Ford, and Terrell. They dig into why this part of the lake has long been considered the region's best-kept secret, what's changing in the luxury market (including an $18.5 million listing and a $6 million home that went under contract on day one), and how the numbers compare year over year. Mike shares current stats — 295 closings through mid-May, days on market up slightly to 88, and sale-to-list ratios still holding at 98–99% — while making the case that buyers get significantly more home for the money on the west side. They also discuss favorite luxury neighborhoods like Pebble Bay and Northview Harbor, the appeal of being 20 minutes from Charlotte Douglas Airport, and a teaser for a brand-new luxury community coming soon to Denver.Mike Feehley | Ivester Jackson Christie's International Real Estate350 Morrison Plantation Pkwy Suite C1Mooresville, NC 28117(704) 799-5233https://mikefeehley.com/ Best of LKNhttps://thebestoflkn.com/Hosted by:Jeff Hammhttps://lknreal.com/Powered by:https://aidawerks.com/Support the show

As they record from Dallas during their cross-country road trip, they share the emotions, uncertainty, and real-time stress of making a life-changing move while still trying to protect their marriage, peace, and vision. This episode dives into the reality of "moving without a plan"—not because they lacked vision, but because many details were still unfolding in real time. Robert and Kay Lee discuss how a shared long-term vision helped them navigate one of life's greatest stressors without turning against each other. They unpack the importance of testing major decisions over time, communicating honestly during stressful moments, creating backup plans, and refusing to let uncertainty create division in their marriage. For married entrepreneurs, this conversation is a powerful reminder that growth often requires discomfort. Whether you're making a major move, navigating business uncertainty, or stepping into a new season of life, success isn't about having every detail perfectly figured out. It's about staying united, keeping your peace, and moving forward together even when the path ahead isn't fully clear. In this episode, former Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Scott Karl traces his path from Carlsbad standout to big league starter to financial advisor. He swaps stories with Jeff about Bandon Dunes and his move from California to Lake Norman, then dives into his career, getting a last-minute shot after the '94 strike, surviving as a finesse pitcher in a power era, facing legends like Randy Johnson, Greg Maddux, and Sammy Sosa, and taking the mound during the 1998 home run chase. Scott shares how he lost roughly 70% of his portfolio in the dot-com bust while still playing, what it taught him about risk and advisors, and how it pushed him into wealth management. He explains why many athletes blow through life-changing money, how he builds portfolios with buffered ETFs, structured notes, and private credit, and how he manages expectations around upside, downside, and liquidity. The conversation widens to NIL, parents effectively betting travel-ball costs on scholarships, and the risk of turning college sports into a money race. Chris Lawrence opens the show fresh from emceeing the West Virginia Trout Festival in Franklin before welcoming two guests with major fishing and wildlife news. Wood County angler Ed Powell breaks down his seventh-place finish in the Bassmaster Open at Lake Norman — a 43-pound, three-day performance built on a precisely dialed-in dock skipping pattern targeting floating docks at creek mouths, combined with a late-tournament adjustment to a new bait he's keeping close to the vest.DNR wildlife disease specialist Ethan Barton then delivers a comprehensive update on chronic wasting disease in West Virginia, covering the ongoing high prevalence in Hampshire County — where more deer are now dying from CWD than from hunters — and the first-ever CWD detection west of the Alleghenies following a positive finding in a captive deer operation in Marion County. Lawrence also covers new DNR regulations lifting horsepower restrictions on five state lake impoundments and the approved expansion of youth deer hunting to include bucks on designated youth hunting days.

Carol White's road to owning Impeccable Closets wound through a corporate PR career at GTE/Verizon, a stint as a stay-at-home mom, and seven years managing sales and training at a big box organization retailer — where she discovered a passion for closet design. A chance conversation at a BNI meeting eventually led to a business partnership, and Impeccable Closets was born two weeks before COVID. She bought out her partner in 2022, opened her first showroom in Huntersville about a year ago, and is now celebrating six years in business alongside her husband Brian. The company designs and installs custom closets, pantries, laundry rooms, home offices, craft rooms, bars, and just about anything else you can dream up in a home — including, most recently, a two-story primary closet with 16-foot ceilings and a floor-to-ceiling sneaker gallery for a Charlotte-area pro athlete housing 265 pairs of shoes. Carol's approach is rooted in solution selling: she gets into the details of how clients actually use their spaces before a single shelf goes up. In 2026, the focus is on growth — expanding the showroom, adding designers and installers, and building systems that allow the business to scale beyond Carol being at the center of it all.Impeccable Closets330 Seagle St Suite 22Huntersville, NC 28078(704) 742-6046---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Lake Norman's #1 Podcast & Email NewsletterThe Best of LKNhttps://thebestoflkn.com/Hosted by:Jeff Hammwww.lknreal.comThanks to Safe harbor Peninsula Yacht Club for their support!Support the show

Logan Sandate rejoins the podcast to share what's happened since her first appearance last summer. Girl Power Carolinas Flag Football launched its inaugural season in Mooresville with over 80 girls, wrapped up an eight-week fall run complete with Super Bowl rings and weekly core value awards, and has already expanded into Fort Mill, South Carolina. A Banner Elk league is on the way this summer through a partnership with Lees-McRae College coach Mike Brown. Logan has also taken on a new role as Director of Development at The Carolina Factory in Cornelius, where she's helping connect the facility's growing lineup of offerings including a brand-new girls AAU basketball team.Across everything she's building, Logan's focus remains the same: creating environments where girls can fall in love with sport without the pressure and burnout that come with early-age competitive pipelines. In 2026, she's prioritizing depth over expansion — doubling down on her Lake Norman and Fort Mill families to make sure the quality of the experience stays high. Garrett joins The Best of LKN podcast to talk entrepreneurship, community, and how Seemingly Overzealous Ice Cream grew from a pandemic-era experiment into one of Charlotte's most distinctive food brands. He shares his early days in SEO and agency life, what pulled him into coworking with Hygge, and why proximity to other builders was always the secret sauce—being close enough to ask questions, share ideas, and solve problems in real time. The conversation also digs into modern small-business marketing, especially the shift toward PR and relationships over shiny, overpromised tactics. Garrett makes the case for simple visibility: sending the email, sharing the update, and refusing to let good work quietly disappear. It's a practical reminder that many businesses don't struggle because they lack quality — but because they hesitate to talk about what they're doing. From there, the focus turns to Seemingly Overzealous Ice Cream — how a shared love of ice cream became pop-ups, then a first shop at Camp North End, followed by Plaza Midwood, and now an expansion into Lake Norman. What sets the brand apart is intention: a joyful, experience-driven shop paired with ice cream that's dairy-free, egg-free, and gluten-free across the board, without sacrificing texture or flavor. The goal isn't an “alternative” — it's ice cream anyone would choose. For Lake Norman listeners, the headline is clear: Seemingly Overzealous is coming to Davidson, with a target opening in May near Main Street. Expect the same playful energy, a neighborhood-specific mural, and a space designed to feel local from day one. Ann Campanella is a former magazine and newspaper editor and is the author of three memoirs and four collections of poetry. Her award-winning writing has appeared in newspapers, magazines, literary journals and online sites across the country and around the world. Her first memoir, Motherhood: Lost and Found, was named "One of the best Alzheimer's books of all time" by BookAuthority two years in a row. Since 2017, Ann has been a manager/director of AlzAuthors.com, a nonprofit organization with the mission of sharing Alzheimer's and dementia resources to light the way for others. In 2018, she was recognized by her hometown newspaper as one of the Most Influential Women in her community for her work promoting Alzheimer's awareness. Ann's second memoir, Celiac Mom, won the 2024 Silver Medal in the Nonfiction/Health category of the Readers' Favorite International Book Award. This book has become a "go-to" resource for the celiac community. A social-media influencer, Ann uses her Instagram account @glutenfreeforgood to spread awareness about this condition. Ann's most recent book, The Shoulder Season: A Memoir of Fracture and Grace, shares her experience of going from a caregiver to someone who needed care after a serious injury. Ann hopes it will provide hope and inspiration to those facing a season of health challenges. Ann and her husband live on Lake Norman in North Carolina and enjoy nightly sunsets. About "The Shoulder Season": After decades of being physically fit, riding and training horses, Ann's life skids to a stop when a seemingly innocuous accident (tripping over the dog) turns into a traumatic injury that shrinks her world. She succumbs to severe pain and faces difficult surgeries that require a two-year recovery. On the brink of an empty nest, a few months before the pandemic, Ann is no longer the busy caregiver who juggles her family's needs along with her writing work and caring for her farm but becomes the person who needs care. Ann must discover a new identity and reimagine her future. The Shoulder Season serves as a guide and an inspiration for those facing a life interrupted.

Want proof that service scales? Angi Standish joins us with a candid, energizing tour through nearly three decades in real estate—starting with a third attempt at the licensing exam and arriving at leading a high-performing Lake Norman office. Along the way, she built a mixed-use community, weathered a recession, detoured into banking to sharpen her leadership, then returned to coach agents with calm, clarity, and systems that actually stick. We dig into the real story behind today's market and why headlines can mislead your clients. Angi lays out the local data—new listings up, closings up, median price holding, and average days on market under two months—and explains how pricing to condition still sparks multiple offers. For buyers, she makes a practical case: you only know today's rates and prices, inventory offers more choice, and rent is 100% interest. Get pre-approved, move thoughtfully, and lock payment certainty while others wait for perfect.Angi also details the traits that drive sustainable success: abundance, positivity, tenacity, knowledge, and confidence. Then she stacks the veteran playbook on top—systems, expectation-setting, and adaptability—so you stay in flow during longer ownership cycles. We spotlight open houses as growth engines when you treat them like events: abundant signage, neighbor invites, social promotion, fast follow-up, and sincere conversations that lead to listings. On the digital front, Angi shares how one agent turned short-form video into 60% of her business, and why outsourcing content is a smart move if you lack time. The throughline is servant leadership: show up, teach, mentor, encourage, and solve problems with authenticity so people become who they want to be.Listen for practical scripts, market clarity you can share with your sphere, and real-world tactics you can run this weekend. If this conversation helped you find your next step, follow the show, share it with a colleague, and leave a quick review to help more agents lead with service.

I sat down with Cheryl Luckett, founder and principal designer of Dwell by Cheryl Interiors, for a much-needed round two—this time in person after a tech issue cut our first conversation short. Cheryl's story is a masterclass in the kind of disciplined pivot most people dream about but rarely execute. She grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and built a successful corporate career as a registered dietitian at a Fortune 500 company in Charlotte. She was good at it—really good—but over time she couldn't shake the feeling that she was “faking the passion.” That honesty led her to explore a creative pull she'd felt for years, starting with a single design class at a community college. One class turned into a blog (launched January 1, 2012), which turned into real clients, and eventually a side business she couldn't ignore. What stood out most was how intentional she was about leaving corporate. Cheryl created “Project 36,” a 36-month exit strategy that gave her time to build savings, tighten her systems, level up her marketing, and mentally let go of “security” before taking the leap on December 30, 2016.We also dug into what makes her work different: the belief that a beautiful home is the baseline—the process is the luxury. She shared her “home build trinity” approach (builder, architect, interior designer) and why designers aren't just picking finishes—they're protecting the end vision of how a home will actually be lived in. And when we hit design trends, Cheryl kept it real: forget chasing what's “in.” Choose what you love, and you'll never be out of style.Dwell by Cheryl Interiorsdwellbycheryl.com---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Lake Norman's #1 Podcast & Email NewsletterThe Best of LKNhttps://thebestoflkn.com/Hosted by:Jeff Hammwww.lknreal.comThanks to Safe harbor Peninsula Yacht Club for their support!Support the show

Schedule a free discovery call. https://marriedentrepreneur.co/lets-talk As the year winds down (or whenever you're listening), Robert and Kay Lee invite married entrepreneurs to pause and audit what's working—and what's quietly piling onto your calendar "just because." The danger isn't always failure… it's drift. When you never stop to evaluate, your schedule fills up, your energy gets spent on habits instead of priorities, and both marriage and business can slowly erode under nonstop momentum. They walk through a powerful set of reflection questions designed to help you celebrate progress (not just critique problems), gain clarity on your goals, and make smarter decisions with your time. Kay Lee shares personal growth around emotional triggers and learning not to take everything personally—especially in family relationships. Robert opens up about loosening perfectionism, taking more chances, and using "small steps" to reduce overwhelm—like their decision to test a possible move to Lake Norman one step at a time instead of forcing a massive all-or-nothing decision. The episode also highlights practical business lessons like testing demand safely (hello, waitlists) and learning to ask for what you want—whether it's closing a deal, requesting introductions, or opening doors through relationships. They wrap with meaningful experiences from the past 90 days: building local community through fun gatherings for married business owners, and serving local businesses impacted by the devastating Southern California fires—offering clarity, encouragement, and simple marketing direction when life feels foggy. Key Takeaways If you don't audit your life, your calendar will audit you. Reflection helps you remove what's no longer serving you—before "busy" becomes your default. Celebrate small wins, not just big milestones. Most entrepreneurs can spot failures instantly—this episode helps you build balance and sanity by naming what's working. Small steps reduce big fear. Especially for perfectionists, progress comes easier when you create a "safe" next step instead of trying to solve everything at once. Test demand before you invest. A waitlist is a simple way to validate interest before you commit time, money, or a big launch. Ask for what you want. Whether in business, relationships, or networking—doors open faster when you stop hoping and start asking. Community is a strategy, not a luxury. Fun, face-to-face connection isn't optional for thriving—it's fuel for married entrepreneurs. Encouragement is leadership. When people are overwhelmed or recovering from loss, clarity + reassurance can be the most meaningful "next step." Reflection Questions for Married Entrepreneurs (for you and your spouse): How have I grown as a person over the past three years? What are the biggest things that I've learned in the past 12 months? What are 10 important things I've accomplished in the past 12 months? What meaningful experiences have I had in the past 90 days? How am I clearer on my goals and vision than I was 90 days ago? In what ways is my life different and better than 30 days ago? What important progress have I made in the past seven days? What progress have I made in the past 24 hours?

In this extremely enraged episode of Follow the Money, we ask the only question that actually matters in Trump's second crime spree through history: who is getting rich off of Trump chaos and the world's misery? Russian mafia expert Olga Lautman of Trump Tyranny Tracker and Andrea Chalupa of Gaslit Nation together trace a financial pipeline of blood money that runs from the Kremlin, through Qatar, through crypto, straight into Trump World and its favorite oligarch bagmen. While Ukrainian kids are protesting, begging the world not to look away as Russia bombs their playgrounds and kindergartens, Trump's MAGA lackeys, like Matt Gaetz protege Rep. Anna Luna, are in Florida huddling with Putin's money man and messenger, Kirill Dmitriev, sketching out yet another fake "peace plan" that is nothing but a genocide plan for Ukraine and a launchpad for a larger war with Europe. In a blatant crime of access journalism that would make Michael Wolff jealous, Axios published Kremlin/MAGA disinformation by calling it a "peace proposal." In reality, it's a Kremlin bribe: sell off Ukraine's land, launder the theft through "diplomacy," and cash out in crypto for Trump and his longtime real estate buddy-turned-Kremlin fixer Steve Witkoff, and their sons. Their plan is for Ukraine to give up Donbas and Crimea, which suffers under Soviet-style repression, disarm Ukraine' military, and expect the world to recognize stolen land as Russian. In exchange, Trump, Witkoff, and their sons would allegedly get crypto via Qatar and a chance to turn genocide into an investment opportunity. All of this is happening while Russia openly kidnaps Ukrainian children, erases their identities, and feeds them into a military pipeline of Putin's forever war, while half of Europe anxiously prepares for war with Moscow.
