I looked over at the guys in my boat and I said, “Hey guys, we're in the books, we're in the movies right now. • The things that I read about in the books is what we were doing. {16:36) • If I can't see my target I'm not shooting. I don't shoot to make noise. (34:20) • [Marcus] Imagine if a football play lasted until you actually scored a touchdown – without stopping. It's kinda what it's like for us. (47:48) • Sometimes, you have to face the truth that what we do and how we do it. We CAN do it and not everybody can do it. (58:30) • SEAL Teams have never left anyone behind – ever. (74:43) • We had three Medal of Honors that went out in Vietnam. (84:54) • For a SEAL to be awarded and it's not about medal, we're talking about a validation for something they did. It's very hard for frogmen to get that because every day are those kinds of missions. (84:00) • Just training. SEAL Teams kill more people in peacetime than anyone has a clue about. In this episode you will hear: • Marines are unique people. (7:53) • I was only really good at climbing, and I was always climbing buildings. (12:52) • I just happened to close a door and looked behind it, and what do I see? I see these twin 72 cubic inch scuba tanks. I grabbed ‘em and they were [made of] Styrofoam! (28:34) • If I ever come up with something like Dementia, I hope I'm brave enough to identify it and go for a long swim. (35:21) • In battle you learn one thing. [You need] water, and ammunition. (36:45) • When you hit the water, you only got a matter of minutes, and if that parachute gets saturated, it's an anchor. You're going down. End of story. (38:26) • If you never quit, you'll never know how to. (39:37) • [Marcus] The only reason I knew I could make it, it because I made it through hell week. (40:47) • The reason they don't give us – in my day – more psychological techniques, and even some physiological tricks – they wanna see who's gonna do it on their own. (45:48) • Free fall is difficult because there's no gravity. (49:39) • You still did one thing together – you get up in line and you examine each other's equipment to make sure the guys are squared away and nothing bad's gonna happen. (57:42) • One of the reasons I was really driven to be a frog man was because they weren't designed for any other purpose other than warfare. (60:59) • There were so many cold war frogmen that were ready. There was no war but we were ready. (70:40) • One of the first things I learned is that it wasn't about muscle, it wasn't about brawn – it was about the mind. (83:24) • You can't change the world. You have to learn how to navigate accordingly. (93:41) • Where is there a war I can get in? Where can I stand up for somebody and fight but for a reason, for a purpose. (96:01) • Life may be boring to me, but what makes life is being able to share it with someone special. https://markdivine.com/ About Mark Divine Mark is from upstate New York and did his formal undergraduate education at Colgate University. His years at Colgate University were focused on athletic endeavors such as competitive swimming, rowing and triathlon racing, interrupted by brief episodes of academic activity. After graduation from “the Gate” Mark started his professional career as a CPA with Coopers & Lybrand in New York City. Clients included luminous and no-longer existent financial firms such as Solomon Brothers and Paine Webber. Four painful years later, with an MBA from NYU Stern School of Business in his briefcase, he left behind the suit to pursue his inner vision to become a Navy SEAL officer. He was 26 when he graduated as honor-man (#1 ranked trainee) of his SEAL BUD/s class 171. Mark was fortunate to serve with many great men and women on active duty for nine year and in the reserves for eleven…retiring at the rank of Commander in 2011. After leaving active duty in 1997, Mark started his second business career as an entrepreneur. He co-founded the successful Coronado Brewing Company and launched NavySEALs.com in the year he left the active duty Navy. NavySEALs.com is the leading web site for gear and information about the SEALs. US Tactical was next, gaining contracts with Naval Special Warfare Group ONE for training support, and the Navy Recruiting Command for a nationwide mentoring program for SEAL, SWCC, EOD and Diver candidates. Mark's business career was interrupted by a stint as an Adjunct Professor of Leadership at the University of San Diego, where he was pursuing his Doctorate in Leadership, then by a one year recall to active duty in 2004. The recall took him to Baghdad with SEAL Team One to conduct a special project for Naval Special Warfare Command surrounding the role of the USMC in Special Operations. In 2007 he launched his CrossFit affiliate and the now internationally known SEALFIT program to provide transformational personal and team training experiences. The training utilizes an integrated warrior development model he developed, called Unbeatable Mind, which draws from his 20 years as a SEAL and business leader, 25 years as a martial artist and 15 years as yoga practitioner. SEALFIT and Unbeatable Mind are uniquely effective at elevating clients to a higher level of operating, thinking and leading – encompassing the full spectrum of human experience – Body, Mind and Spirit in Self, Team and Organization.

Ronald Dion DeSantis (/diˈsæntɪs/; born September 14, 1978) is an American attorney and politician who has served as the 46th governor of Florida since 2019. Before assuming the governorship, DeSantis represented Florida's 6th district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2013 to 2018.Born in Jacksonville, DeSantis spent most of his childhood in Dunedin, Florida. He graduated from Yale University and Harvard Law School. When he returned to the U.S. a year later, the U.S. Department of Justice appointed DeSantis to serve as a Special Assistant U.S. attorney at the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Middle District of Florida, a position he held until his honorable discharge in 2010.DeSantis was first elected to Congress in 2012, defeating his Democratic opponent Heather Beaven. During his tenure, he became a founding member of the Freedom Caucus and was an ally of President Donald Trump. DeSantis frequently criticized Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. He briefly ran for U.S. Senate in 2016, but withdrew when incumbent senator Marco Rubio sought reelection.During his 2018 gubernatorial campaign, DeSantis emphasized his support of Trump. He won the Republican nomination in August, and chose state representative Jeanette Nuñez as his running mate. In March 2022, DeSantis signed into law the Parental Rights in Education Act, which prohibits instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity in public school classrooms from kindergarten to grade 3. On this week's podcast, SOFREP editor-in-chief Sean Spoonts interviews Ryan Zinke at SHOT Show 2022 in Las Vegas. Ryan Zinke served as a Navy SEAL in command positions in SEAL Team One and SEAL Team Six. He served with Naval Special Warfare Unit Two and the Naval Special Warfare Center, and at one time was the acting command of the Special Operations Forces in Iraq. Ryan served as a senator in Montana from 2009 to 2013 then won a seat in the House in 2014. He served as Secretary of the Interior from 2017 to 2019. He is running again for Montana's 1st congressional district in November. They talk about the energy use and production in Montana and Ryan's stance that the US must never be held hostage for its energy. Ryan explores the different environmental impacts of various methods of energy production and how important it is to implement sustainable practices. Ryan comments on the distrust with the government in Washington and the need to protect free speech. On the issue of Ukraine, Ryan is hopeful that war can be avoided but stresses the need for the US to have a united front with its allies, an important element because if Russia enters Ukraine, it will likely not go in alone. Russia is likely looking at how far China will go with Taiwan and, if China moves, Russia may move in concert too. Finally, Ryan also shares his thoughts on vaccines, the objections of Navy SEALS in taking the vaccine, and fighting for what is right in the House. Today I speak with Dan Luna, a retired Navy SEAL Chief who served at SEAL Team One, and Naval Special Warfare Development Group sometimes referred to as SEAL team 6. In addition to his decades of experience in combat and leadership in the SEAL teams, Dan has a bachelor's degree in organizational leadership from University of Charleston, a Master's Degree in Leadership from Georgetown University and is currently working on a Doctorate in Organizational Change and Leadership at the University of Southern California – much of which we discuss during our conversation. But the main reason for this episode is that in the wake of the debacle that was our exit from Afghanistan, I think it's more important than ever to hear from veterans of the Afghan war and those who served in the military like Dan about their experiences, their perspective, their criticisms and critiques of leadership, and the lessons they want their country and the countrymen to learn.

Retired Navy SEAL Bob Reitz joins the show to share how his deployments have shaped civilian life as well as the coping mechanisms he's developed in conjunction with NuCalm, to manage his PTSD and hypervigilance. Introduction quote “You may be able to hold your breath for five minutes, but they want to know how you manage and how you act at five minutes and one second. Do you panic? Do you compete? Do you keep your composure? Do you stay underwater and relax even though you're a quiet storm inside? All those things matter.” — Bob Reitz Guest bio Bob joined the Navy in 1988 and served both as an Enlisted Sailor and a Commissioned Officer over his 22 year career. The first 8 years in the Navy Bob served as a Machinist Mate where he repaired Submarines in Italy and followed by his time in at the University of Arizona where he received his Bachelor's Degree and Commission; the last 16 years he served as a Commissioned Officer in the US Navy SEAL Teams. Bob was assigned to SEAL Team ONE, SEAL Team FIVE, Special Boat Team TWELVE and also the Naval Postgraduate School where he received his Master's Degree. Over his time in the Navy he deployed 6 times for 6-7 months each deployment and served 4 years abroad when he was stationed in Italy and Guam. After leaving the Navy Bob worked as a Security Contractor with other SEALS protecting the Middle East Maersk Shipping line from Pirating and Kidnapping operations conducted by local criminal elements; He later went into the Defense Contracting Industry where he sold Covert Audio and Video equipment to both DOD and Federal Agencies. It was during this time that he was introduced to NuCalm by way of a Gifted NuCalm System from Dr. David Walters (Bob's personal Doctor) to help him with Sleep and Travel. Because NuCalm had such a profound effect on Bob, he quit his Defense Contracting career and reached out to NuCalm to join the team! Key Takeaways [1:00] David welcomes a long-time friend, Navy SEAL, hero, all-around awesome human and asks him to share the story of how he came to serve. [5:23] The people who make it to SEAL training need to really want to do it — there is a 75% to 85% drop-out rate! Bob shares some of the grueling trials and training required. [8:31] Bob shares some of his deployments, what they have meant, and the fundamental mission difference between pre- and post-9/11. [13:56] Six to seven months of constant sympathetic drive is not something your body or mind is used to recuperating from, but it's part of the job. Bob shares the hurdles of hypervigilance experience as well as the hardships of managing the need for control post-deployment. [20:13] Bob shares a personal example of how hypervigilance can show up inappropriately — even backyard camping — in a personal and family relationship setting. [22:11] Growing with a tightly knit unit of brothers at arms and developing this uniquely unshakable bond teaches you that life is really about community. Retirement from this context can lead to a profound feeling of loss and Bob shares how some people find relief from this feeling of emptiness. [30:12] PTSD is ugly. And easy to deny. Bob opens up about his Veteran grandfather. [35:55] To put things into perspective, Bob shares what a day in his life is on deployment 24/7 for seven months at a time — from Djibouti to Afghanistan. [40:32] What does Veteran's day mean to Bob? He also shares advice on how to come back to civilian life. [48:12] From dying on the vine to Bob figuring out the best coping mechanisms for managing his PTSD — including NuCalm. [52:33] Audience questions start with “How do you share this PTSD experience with others?” [58:05] “Have you customized NuCalm for your own optimal experience?” [1:01:52] “TBI and TMJ are causing grinding. Will NuCalm help with this?” [1:07:04] “Bob's recommendations for getting — and staying — in the zone.” [1:16:30] David thanks Bob for his service, his experience, and for sharing so much of himself. Continue on your journey and until next time, breathe deep, relax, and keep looking forward. "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him." James 1:12 Today we talk to our Naval Academy classmate, Dan Cnossen, who has an incredible story and will motivate us all. Dan Cnossen was serving as the platoon commander for SEAL Team One in Afghanistan in September 2009 when he stepped on an IED (improvised explosive device) and was wounded in the explosion. The accident caused Cnossen to lose both of his legs just above the knee. He went through rehabilitation first at the Bethesda National Naval Medical Center and later at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center where he learned to walk with his new prosthetics. Dan was awarded both a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star with Valor from the Secretary of the Navy for his service in combat. We talk about how Dan recovered from this life changing injury, how he pivoted and became a Paralympian to compete in the 2014 and 2018 winter games, winning the Gold Medal in the Biathalon in 2018 winter games, how he sets goals and the actionable steps to get there, how he has become a huge influence for other wounded warriors by telling his story, and how he continues to serve through multiple platforms, to include non-profit organizations like One More Wave and Classroom Champions, and working with the for-profit organization O2X to help other military and first responders with resilience training. This week's guest on The David Johnson Show is Navy SEAL veteran, Craig Sawyer, aka ‘Sawman', who has transitioned from his Navy SEAL and counter-terrorism military career into working in television, the Internet, humanitarian non-profit work and mentoring young veterans on their post-military lives. In the episode, Craig shares his story of how he started initially with the Marines, but moved into the Navy SEALs in his early 20s. Craig served in the Gulf War (1990-1991), gaining combat experience in Desert Shield and Desert Storm as an Operator at SEAL Team One. He was later promoted to the Naval Special Warfare Development Group or 'SEAL Team 6', a Counter-Terrorism unit administered by US Naval Special Warfare Command. In the early 2000s Craig transitioned to a new role with the U.S. Air Marshal program and spent most of the ‘00s in Air Marshal service. His military operations skills helped him get chosen to lead a military commando team in Africa to halt rhino poachers. This started his work in TV production, movies, acting, voiceover work and more in the past decade on networks like Animal Planet, the Military Channel and The History Channel. In recent years, Craig's humanitarian efforts have manifested in his work to combat child sex trafficking through his non-profit Vets4ChildRescue - https://vets4childrescue.org. “Craig's background is so amazing, it should really give hope to other military vets looking to make a mark after military service ends,” said David Johnson, host of “The David Johnson Show”. “Craig said to me recently, "I'm in my 50's and I'm just now finding the real passion in my life." That in and of itself is a powerful story. To be in the 50's, with everything he's done, to see him writing a new chapter is very inspiring. I hope our viewers feel the same.” “The David Johnson Show” is a national voice that talks about points of interest in the American military and veteran subculture. Why Listen: I don’t really know what to say about today’s interview. Dan is a classmate of mine from the Naval Academy. I didn’t know him really well while I was there, but I knew of him. This interview really makes me wish I would have had the chance to get to know him better while we were in school together. We recorded this interview, and there were some technical difficulties and we got started a bit late, and I had another meeting right after it. It was actually a video conference that I have with my men’s group each week. So I hung up with Dan and went straight into this men’s group meeting. And we always start off these calls with a round the room check-in - each of the seven guys in my group takes five minutes to share what’s going on in their life. And I just knew I’d be picked to go first. And I was. And I was just coming from my conversation with Dan and the whole weight of our conversation hit me. And I got pretty emotional. Dan made an enormous sacrifice in the service of our country. He paid a price for his choosing to keep our country safe. And he faced an incomprehensible recovery from that sacrifice - one in which he faced uncertainty, loss, and obstacles that it’s really hard for me to get my head around. And he approached this with a moment-by-moment presence that really shows the man he is. He came back from this loss to win the gold medal at the Paralympics - he made history in doing so. And through it all he maintains himself with such humility, such candor, and such honesty - it really made me feel humbled and honored to have him on the show, and to count him as a classmate. He has been hesitant to stand in the spotlight, to speak publicly about his experience. If you - like me - are touched by his story as I was, I hope that you reach out and let him know. I think he is an incredible human being with an inspiring message, and I cannot wait to see what is ahead for him. At the end of our conversation, I ask Dan about organizations he would recommend listeners support. Each of them are listed in the show notes for this episode at BeyondTheUniform.org - I hope that you’ll check them out and consider supporting them. About Dan: Cnossen is currently a graduate student at Harvard University, working towards a Master of Public Administration at the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as a Master of Theological Studies at the Divinity School. In the 2018 at the Winter Paralympics , Dan created history in his second Paralympic appearance after claiming a gold medal in the men's 7.5km sitting biathlon event. In doing so he became the first American male and the second American ever to claim a gold medal in a biathlon event in either the Olympics or Paralympics. Dan grew up on a fifth-generation family farm in Kansas. He attended the Naval Academy as part of the illustrious class of 2002, after which he served in the Navy as a SEAL. While serving as a platoon commander for SEAL Team One in Afghanistan in September 2009, Dan stepped on an IED (improvised explosive device) and was wounded in the explosion. The accident caused Cnossen to lose both his legs just above the knee. As you will hear in this interview, in both his recovery and achievements since then, Dan continues to be an inspiration to the military and non-military community.

Randy Hetrick is a fierce competitor. He’s driven to perform at the highest level — in whatever he does. After college, he entered the Navy and joined SEAL Team One, where he had a 14-year career, ending as a Lieutenant Commander, leading a squadron at the SEAL special missions unit. On a mission in Southeast Asia, Randy took his old Jiu-jitsu belt, anchored to a backdrop, and started what we now refer to as "Suspension Training". After his time as a SEAL, he applied and got into the Stanford Graduate School of Business where he learned how to start a company, raise money, and grow. Having learned how to sew as a SEAL, to modify gear, he spent the summer of Stanford perfecting his prototypes and shortly after graduating, incorporated TRX Systems. Today, TRX is in over 40,000 gyms worldwide, and is used by all professional sports leagues and teams. Randy's a dear friend of mine. We’ve all heard how difficult it can be to become a Navy SEAL – the physical challenges alone can make or break one’s success. Today’s guest and host of The Unbeatable Mind podcast, Mark Divine, had that part covered, but he ensured his success by mastering his thoughts as well. From a disempowered background and core story, Mark didn’t always have dreams of becoming a Navy SEAL. In fact, he actually had a successful career as a CPA, but he longed for something more that also appealed to his athletic side. Tune in to find out how Mark shifted his thought patterns and discarded those that didn’t work to accomplish his goals then and how he continues to apply those skills in his life and businesses now. I love how Mark’s approach links the heart and mind – you’re going to be amazed at just how simple it can be once you can quiet your mind and focus on one task at a time. -- Questions Asked in This Episode: What led you to begin you Zen practice? What were some of the core beliefs of your family? What was the driver to become a Navy SEAL? Why did you find the process of becoming a Navy SEAL to be “easier?” If someone is feeling disempowered, what would you recommend for a visualization? What goes on in regard to training at your retreats? How can you break through mentally? What are you most excited about right now? In This Episode We Talk about: How Mark went from CPA to Navy SEAL Mark’s Zen and meditation practice Changing the patterns of your thoughts from disempowering to empowering What it means to “practice on the bench” The BIG Four Skills (1. Breath Control 2. Maintaining, Managing and Curating Positive Direction of Emotions and Thinking 3. Always Hold an Image of What Success Looks Like and 4. Front Sight Focus) The importance and power of visualization Integrative training with mind and heart The Box-Breathing technique Disengaging from past events to free up energy The different levels of resiliency Quotes: “When I started asking better questions, then I started to get different answers.” “The absence of thought is when the answers came to me.” “Use your imagination to see a version of you that’s whole.” “If you can see it, you can speak it and then you can believe it.” “Create a positive memory of the future.” “Sever the negative energy of the past so you can attract the force of the future which pulls you toward the future.” “We always have value and a gift to give, no matter what happens to use, as long as we’re here.” -- Mark is from upstate New York and did his formal undergraduate education at Colgate University. His years at Colgate University were focused on athletic endeavors such as competitive swimming, rowing and triathlon racing, interrupted by brief episodes of academic activity. After graduation from "the Gate" Mark started his professional career as a CPA with Coopers & Lybrand in New York City. Clients included luminous and no-longer existent financial firms such as Solomon Brothers and Paine Webber. Four years later, with an MBA from NYU Stern School of Business in his briefcase, he left behind the suit to pursue his inner vision to become a Navy SEAL officer. He was 26 when he graduated as Honor Man (#1 ranked trainee) of his SEAL BUD/s class 170. Mark was fortunate to serve with many great men and women on active duty for nine years and in the reserves for eleven...retiring at the rank of Commander in 2011. After leaving active duty in 1997, Mark started his second business career as an entrepreneur. He co-founded the successful Coronado Brewing Company and launched NavySEALs.com in the same year he left active duty. To this day, it is the leading website for gear and information about the SEALs. Mark's business career was interrupted by a stint as an Adjunct Professor of Leadership at the University of San Diego, where he was pursuing his Doctorate in Leadership, then by a one-year recall to active duty in 2004. The recall took him to Baghdad with SEAL Team One to conduct a special project for Naval Special Warfare Command surrounding the role of the USMC in Special Operations. While in Iraq, Mark developed Kokoro Yoga, which allows you to see, feel, hear, and live the goal you are looking to achieve through warrior visualization. He now hosts a highly rated podcast on iTunes called Unbeatable Mind. SEALFIT and Unbeatable Mind are uniquely effective at elevating clients to a higher level of operating, thinking and leading - encompassing the full spectrum of human experience: Body, Mind and Spirit in Self, Team and Organization. Rear Admiral Kerry Metz (USN, Ret.) started his career as a Navy SEAL, and eventually served as the first commander of Special Operations Command North. In this discussion, Kerry talked about career success, career setbacks, and how “you can’t be a shiny penny without a few wire brushings!” Kerry shares his 5 H’s when it comes to leadership: honor, honesty, humility, humor, and happiness. He discusses the differences and similarities between the military, sports teams, business, and the shared commonality regarding leadership. Listen in to gain insights from a modern-day, intellectual warrior. Key Takeaways [3:01] Kerry progressed as a SEAL from the tactical area, through operational roles, and then to the strategic level as an admiral. The Special Forces, SEALs, and Rangers are tests for the human body and mind to do 10 times more than they think they can. [5:48] A good team requires a common purpose or mission. Next, comes a shared experience or sacrifice. Everyone contributes to the best of their ability. These are the ingredients for a high-performing team. [7:33] Kerry talks about sacrifice in a startup. Employees sacrifice high salary for shares. Founders are often on the road more than most executives, for a later payoff. Sacrificing now gives you future options. [9:25] Kerry discusses how Naval officers achieve rank. Evaluations are not only for what they have done, but also their potential. Leadership is developing the leaders behind you. If something happens to you, the one behind you has to step up and take your place. [13:29] Kerry talks about his advancement. He was passed over for Lieutenant Commander once, but not the second time. When he was up for Commander, it also took two times. But he made One Star Admiral before his contemporaries. Kerry follows five ‘H’s: Honor, Honesty, Humility, Humor, and Happiness. [21:13] Military groups fight in a mission to win or lose; sports teams play a game to win; but business can be a long slog. He cites Admiral Jim Stavridis, who said to be open, honest, and collegial, and Admiral Michael Mullen, who said to listen, learn, and lead. Leaders who apply these principles will lead well. [25:49] Competition among peers is healthy if it is balanced with cooperation. Leaders should lead people the way they need to be led. Some need a push, some need a pat on the back. Tell the contributors how they are doing, and what they need to do to be on the mark. [29:44] In 1989, Kerry tells a hard leadership lesson he learned as the Team Commander of SEAL Team One when they deployed to the Philippines. [37:27] Put people in the right spot for them, nurture them, and empower them, and they will surpass your expectations and surprise you with their achievements. [41:42] No one starts at the top. He would like to help others have a smoother ride, go further, and go faster. The world needs leaders to handle complexity. LinkedIn: Kerry M. Metz Navy Bio: Navy.mil/navydata/bios/navybio_ret.asp?bioID=655 Interview: Defensemedianetwork.com/stories/interview-with-rear-admiral-kerry-m-metz-us-navy Hall of Valor: Valor.militarytimes.com/recipient.php?recipientid=315229 Quotable Quotes Whatever you can do, think 10 times that. You are capable of it. Don’t let someone else determine where you’re going. You determine where you’re going. Stay on that path. You’re going to get through that obstacle. You’ve just got to keep trying. A high-performing team has a common purpose, a shared sacrifice, and everyone contributing to their best ability. “A good leader can get the most of his personnel even that aren’t going all the way to the top.” The bottom line is sustained superior performance. If something happens to you, the one behind you has to take your place. If they’re not ready, then that’s your fault. “If you’re doing something that you absolutely hate, my suggestion is, do something [about it].” “You can’t be a shiny penny without a few wire brushings, and I got more than my share.” The simplest solution is not always the best if there are unknown factors. Always listen to input. Bio Rear Adm. Mark is from upstate New York and did his formal undergraduate education at Colgate University.
New York Times best-selling author of “American Sniper” Scott McEwen joined us to discuss Ryan Zinke, the co-author, and subject of his latest book “American Commander.” McEwin teamed with Zinke — a former SEAL Team Six Commander and the only US Navy SEAL in Congress — to write a book about the now-politician’s life. Zinke is also Donald Trump’s pick for Secretary of the Interior. Zinke’s military career began in 1985 when he graduated from Officer Candidate School and attended SEAL training (BUDS class 136). He was first assigned to SEAL Team One in Coronado, California, then was later selected for SEAL Team Six where he was a Team Leader and a commander. As McEwin tells it, after a decade of service, Zinke was assigned as Deputy and Acting Commander of Combined Joint Special Operations for Operation Iraqi Freedom where he led a force of over 3,500 Special Operations personnel. In 2006 he was awarded two Bronze Stars. An author experienced in telling the stories of high-level special operators, McEwin goes on to explain how Zinke retired from active duty 2008 after serving 23 years as a Navy SEAL. Zinke later ran for Congress and was sworn into the House of Representatives on January 6, 2015, and became the first Navy SEAL in the House.
