In this episode Howard and Rich sit down with their good friend Mitchell “Mitch” Myers. Through some great conversation, Mitch shares some of his experiences as a Navy Special Warfare K9 handler and trainer and serves up some pearls of wisdom regarding learning the trade. He is quite driven, having known exactly what he wanted from a very young age, and he had the work ethic to make that happen. Mitchell joined the Navy straight out of high school with the goal of becoming a Navy SEAL. After completing BUD/s, he was assigned to SEAL Team 10, where he deployed to Afghanistan in 2005, and Iraq in 2007. Following his 2007 deployment, Mitchell helped stand up the Naval Special Warfare Group 2 Multi-Purpose Canine program. Mitchell went on to deploy three more times with his canine, providing canine support for the SEAL Teams in Iraq. Following his fifth combat deployment, Mitchell separated from the Navy and took on the role of canine trainer for the program that he helped start three years prior. Mitchell and his canine were credited with the largest explosive find in Iraq for the canine program during his time as a handler. He also helped grow the program from three original canine handlers to eighteen canine teams when Mitchell eventually left the program.
