It’s tax day—and while the world shouts “show me the money,” Jesus invites us to consider something far deeper. In this episode, we reflect on His powerful response about coins, likeness, and what truly belongs to God. Our financial choices tell a story—not just of dollars and cents, but of mission, identity, and eternal value. Join me as we explore how faith and finances intersect, and what it really means to bear God's image in our money decisions. In this episode, John discusses: The deeper meaning behind Jesus' words about taxes and Caesar’s coin How our identity and purpose shape the way we handle money Recognizing the spiritual impact of our financial choices The invitation to reflect God’s likeness in both our life and finances Key Takeaways: Jesus’ teaching to “render to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s” reminds us that while taxes are a civic duty, our ultimate allegiance—reflected in all aspects of our lives, including money—belongs to God. Like the coin bearing Caesar’s image, we bear the image and inscription of our Creator, and the way we handle money reveals whether we are living out that identity or allowing the world’s values to define us. Every financial decision we make—how we earn, give, spend, save, and invest—can either demonstrate faithful trust in God’s provision or expose a reliance on self-sufficiency, fear, and performance. When we treat money as a tool, a test, and a testimony, we begin to understand that our financial choices tell a bigger story—one that can point others to God’s character and His Kingdom purposes. “We are worth more than any deduction, any refund, any return you could ever calculate, because what we give to God—our trust and our obedience and our identity, our lives, and yes, our money and our faithful money choices—has massive eternal value and eternal impact.” CLICK ON THE LINKS BELOW MORE MONEY MADE FAITHFUL! John Humphrey and Aaron Alexander dive into Jerry Maguire, the iconic 1996 romantic comedy-drama directed by Cameron Crowe (Almost Famous, Say Anything...), starring Tom Cruise as Jerry Maguire (Top Gun, Mission: Impossible), a high-powered sports agent who experiences a moral awakening that changes his life and career. The film follows Jerry as he navigates the cutthroat world of sports management, forms a heartfelt connection with Dorothy Boyd (Renée Zellweger, Bridget Jones's Diary, Chicago), and builds a deeper bond with his only remaining client, Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding Jr., Boyz n the Hood, Men of Honor), leading to one of cinema's most iconic lines—“Show me the money!” From Jerry's epic “Help me help you” plea, to Dorothy's unforgettable “You had me at hello,” this reaction covers all the most memorable moments, including the emotional “You complete me” confession and Rod Tidwell's touchdown celebration that cements his legacy. The cast also features Kelly Preston as Avery Bishop (Twins, For Love of the Game), Bonnie Hunt as Laurel Boyd (Jumanji, Cheaper by the Dozen), Regina King as Marcee Tidwell (If Beale Street Could Talk, Ray), and Jonathan Lipnicki as Ray Boyd (Stuart Little, The Little Vampire). Welcome to the Identity Theft Resource Center's (ITRC's) Weekly Breach Breakdown for February 21, 2025. I'm Alex Achten, Senior Director of Communications & Media Relations of the ITRC. Thanks to Sentilink for supporting the ITRC and this podcast. Each week, we look at the most recent events and trends related to data security and privacy. Today, we examine a rise in Economic Impact Payment text scams, also known as EIP text scams. I am not sure how many of our listeners have seen the 1996 film, Jerry Maguire. However, I am sure all our listeners have heard the well-known phrase uttered by characters in the film, “Show Me the Money!” That phrase is the title of this episode because we are looking at a new twist on an old scam where scammers are hoping that promises of money will trip up consumers.
