But their careers feel light years away from ours, don’t they? Wouldn’t it be great to hear from the guy who just booked his first pilot? Or the kid finally doing a studio pic after a bunch of low budget indies? Or the woman who’s been a series regular a few times but is only now becoming a name? What about the guy who’s been on a show for years and you know his face but what’shisnameagain? Or that actress who is now a freakin’ showrunner???? How’d THEY do it, right? How did they transition from relative obscurity, bartending and bottle service, to buying that house in Brentwood? We’re producing “Kahnversations,” a podcast that provides access to THOSE people -- your immediate predecessors -- so that you can learn from them while their battle scars are still fresh. In “Kahnversations,” our own Ryan Bailey interviews some of Lesly Kahn & Company’s working actors, directors, and writers in order to learn how they got started in Hollywood, the challenges and hurdles they faced, and how they overcame the odds. (They also dish out some crazy stories!) Listen in and enjoy as these entertainers speak candidly about their paths, processes, and experiences. You might even hear a bit about how Lesly and the Kahnstitute have influenced and shaped their careers.
Today on The Neil Haley, The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Manny Montana of NBC's Good Girls. Season three will kick off not long after the events that ended season two. When we last saw Beth, she had just shot Rio as he was beating up Agent Turner. Now that he's out of the picture, she's ready to run the game and stay in control. The women each take on seemingly innocent jobs – Beth in a stationary store, Ruby in a nail salon and Annie as a valet – each with a special purpose to aid them in their new criminal enterprise. What happens as they expand their operation will have a ripple effect with their families. Meanwhile, Stan's taken a job in security at a strip club to help keep a roof over his family and provide for them. Dean is working sales at a spa company where he'll thrive but also encounter his own level of harassment and preferential treatment. From executive producer Jenna Bans (“Grey's Anatomy,” “Scandal”) comes the third season of this comedy-infused drama that mixes a little “Thelma & Louise” with a bit of “Breaking Bad.” The cast includes Christina Hendricks, Retta, Mae Whitman, Reno Wilson, Manny Montana, Lidya Jewett, Isaiah Stannard and Matthew Lillard. Jenna Bans will write and executive produce. Michael Weaver directs and executive produces. Mark Wilding and Bill Krebs also executive produce. “Good Girls” is produced by Universal Television. Just a heads up, this episode has some stronger language then you usually find in our episodes. Thanks to a good friend of Daniel's, shout out to Jared Burger, we were put in contact with up and coming actress and just all around fantastic person, Allison Tolman. Allison Tolman caught her big break on the first season of the FX series "Fargo" as pregnant cop, Mary Solverson. The role landed Allison her very first Emmy nomination and put her career in hyperdrive. Since then Allison Tolman has crushed it in NBC's "Good Girls", TruTV's "I'm Sorry" and from all the previews is going to crush it in her new series, "Emergence", which airs on ABC beginning next Tuesday the 24th. Allison discusses her sudden move from Chicago to Los Angeles after winning the role of Molly on Fargo, she opens up about her nerves on the first day of shooting Fargo and how one of her co-stars helped her out and how she had get a shotgun lesson in public relations and interviewing to help her with her TV and Panel interviews. Allison talks about how she approaches each role and what she would like to do in the future. She is incredibly funny, kind with an awesome and unique story to tell, This episode is so great and we hope you'll check out Allison in Emergence next week after hearing her in this awesome interview!! It's Canaries everywhere in this episode and... we liked it? Like... a lot? What is happening?? Seriously though, Arrow delivered a solid episode filled with girl power, women supporting women (and calling them out when the need arose) and some of the best Olicity domesticity we've seen since season 6. Join us for our rambling about redemption, stay for our gushing over NBC's Good Girls!
On this episode of TV With My Mom, Mom recaps a couple of the new shows she has been watching this season. She gives Freeform's Sirens the thumbs down and gives NBC's Good Girls the thumbs up! I also almost blow out her eardrums by not muting my email notifications. Sorry about that, ma.
This week we kick things off with an overly self-aware discussion about the point of television criticism, who it's for, whether it makes sense to critique things like plausibility and character behavior, and how TV is in fact like books now. (Kathryn, somehow, does not combust). Then we talk about NBC's Good Girls, a show we want to like but also a show that doesn't seem to know what it is yet.
Lex Jurgen and Matt Ralston are back at it, this week diving into Texas' transsexual state wrestling champion, an African woman-only commune called Umoja, Funny Or Die taking the easy, safe route for comedy in a departure from their origin, Ryan Seacrest and his hairdresser's spanking allegations, NBC's "Good Girls" and the thousands of women-can-do-men-stuff-too TV shows to come, and finally, of course, stats surrounding school shootings. Jenna Bans's résumé is scarily similar to the list of TV shows we love to binge. As a producer and writer on Grey's Anatomy, co–executive producer on Scandal, and creator of NBC's new crime drama, Good Girls, she's the creative force behind some of the most popular shows of this generation. In episode two of Second Life, Bans opens up about ditching law school to pursue screenwriting, working with Shonda Rhimes, and learning to lead fearlessly.
