Have you ever tried to build a new habit? Ever find yourself reaching for your phone even when it's not in your pocket? Ever thought about whether free will actually exists? Yeah, that last one got deep, but that's just how we roll here at This Was A Thing. Because this week, we're talking all about a man who devoted his life to studying whether or not humans have a say in how they behave. His conclusion? We're all pretty much rats pressing levers. Daniel teaches Ray and Rob about B.F. Skinner, the psychologist, writer, and inventor whose ideas about free will and shaping behaviors made him famous and infamous; how Skinner bucked the trend of Pavlov and Freud to try to take a quantitative and objective approach to sudying human behavior; Skinner's belief that pigeons could be the next big thing in missile technology; why Skinner's book Beyond Freedom and Dignity earned him a spot on Noam Chomsky's sh*& list; the real origin story of Splinter from TMNT; and how B.F. Skinner continues to influence everything from modern psychology to teaching technologies. If you like what we're doing, please support us on Patreon, or you can subscribe to our bonus content on Apple Podcasts. Meet Nick Joyce! The owner of Superhero Creamery & multi-site worship leader! Plus take a shot at deciphering some vague song lyrics --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/mackey6/support
Katharine hosts Dr. Nick Joyce, from USF, to shed some light on what schools can do to better prepare students to be successful in college beyond academic readiness.
Nick Joyce is a young farmer and hunter who has been a friend of the show since the start. On a recent trip to QLD we caught up and I insisted that when we did it had to be recorded as a Chapter of Gypsy Tales. Nick is a 6th generation farmer as well as an avid hunter and brings a wealth of knowledge to the podcast on subjects that are making headlines in Australian news at the moment.
Welcome to the Show!!! This week I am joined by Mr. Nick Joyce (@nickjoyce_). Nick is a super humble and generous guy that has gone from playing the highest level of professinal AFL football to Guiding Buffalo hunts in Arnhem Land of Northern Australia. If there is one thing that Nick does extremely well, is chase adventure. Nick has used his succesful sporting career to mentor others, especially amongst the youth of the Aboriginal Communities that call Arnhem Land home. We bounce all over in this episode, but it is a great conversation about what it means to be a hunter and to share success in today’s day and age. Hope you guys enjoy the podcast with Nick and if you can, please leave a review on itunes to help the podcast grow further. As always, thank you to @hoytbowhunting , @ozcutbroadheads and @abbeyarchery for their continued support. Follow the podcast updates @huntingcampdownunder and my adventures @craighailes

Superhero Academy Podcast Daniel Greenberg For full notes and key points, please visit LINKSOON Summary In this podcast, Marc Coppola and Nick Joyce interview Daniel Greenberg, who had dedicated his whole life to sustainability and trying to find ways to help people live well with each other and with the Earth. Living Routes, which is one of his projects tied with Academia, helped students to study abroad in an intentional community or Eco-Villages. He also has one new project called Earth Deeds, which tries to measure the environmental impacts and carbon footprints of people and price that to use the money to be collected to fund other sustainability projects. They talk about how we are operating under the tragedy of the commons. We're all doing things for ourselves and causing environmental problems. Superhero Academy Podcast Diana Leaf Christian For full notes and key points, please visit LINKSOON Summary In this podcast, Nick Joyce and Marc Coppola interviews Diana Leafe Christian, author of the books 'Creating a Life Together' and 'Finding Community'. She lives in a sustainable community in the North Haven Ecovillage in Carolina where they constantly have activities concerning physical, social, and economic sustainability.
