On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe Miller of Buffalo Rumblings to discuss elements of the crazy snow storm that rocked Western New York over the weekend and forced the NFL to postpone the Buffalo Bills vs Pittsburgh Steelers wild card playoff game back a day from Sunday to Monday. By early Saturday it was apparent that the snow and wind storm slated to hit Western New York wasn't going to be a dud. Driving bans were proactively enacted and by noon on Saturday New York governor Kathy Hochul announced the game scheduled for 1pm on Sunday was being postponed a day. The guys discuss their opinions on the game being moved early and it ultimately being the right call as well as a notable change in government philosophy after last year's Christmas blizzard calamity in Buffalo. They also talk a little more Bills vs Steelers and how much of a factor they expect the weather to be late Monday afternoon, a Kansas City team that smacked Miami and awaits the Bills if they get past Pittsburgh, Houston shellacking the Cleveland Browns over the weekend and much more. The Buffalo Bills kicked off the 2021 preseason with a 16-15 road win over the Detroit Lions at Ford Field. There was plenty to like and plenty of areas where the Bills can improve, and on the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D'Amico give you their thoughts on what they liked and what they didn't like after Buffalo's preseason-opening win. Among the players who made a favorable impression on our podcasters: Rookie edge rusher Greg Rousseau, who came up with a first-quarter sack and added three quarterback hurries on 11 pass rush snaps. Linebacker Andre Smith was all over the field, making eight tackles and an acrobatic interception that was negated by a roughing the passer penalty. Running back Devin Singletary, who averaged 5.3 yards per carry in rushing for 42 yards and adding a six-yard touchdown catch. Quarterbacks Davis Webb and Jake Fromm, who combined to complete 19 of 29 passes for 155 yards with one TD and no turnovers. Kicker Tyler Bass, who drilled the game-winning field goal and finished with 10 points (three field goals, one extra point). Safeties Josh Thomas and Damar Hamlin, who are both vying for spots on the 53-man roster behind starters Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer. Those whose performances were less than stellar included: Tackle Bobby Hart, who allowed Detroit's pass rushers to constantly get after Webb and Fromm. Cornerbacks Dane Jackson and Siran Neal, who both struggled in pass coverage. Edge rusher Carlos "Boogie" Basham, who was not impactful as a pass rusher and struggled going up against Detroit's second- and third-team offensive linemen. On the episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran has a conversation with Joe Miller, host of the Overreaction Sports Podcast and co-host of the Hump Day Hotline on a variety of topics focused on observations from Buffalo Bills training camp so far. Pat and Joe attended last Saturday's Bills open practice and sat together, noticing several things going on with the team. That coupled with daily reports from some of the team's credible beat reporters sets up several points of conversation, including Patrick considering Isaiah McKenzie a lock to make the roster while Isaiah Hodgins and Jake Kumerow are likely fighting for one receiver spot. They also discuss Cody Ford being anything but a lock to be a starter on the offensive line, a legit RB3 battle brewing between Matt Brieda and Antonio Williams, Mario Addison perhaps in a little danger on the defensive line, Justin Zimmer looking really good, Patrick thinking the Bills are still going to trade for Zack Ertz and plenty more. Of course, they also have a conversation about Josh Allen following the six-year extension that will see him collect $150 million just in guarantees. While deserved, the guys talk about how it's not just a victory for Josh Allen but the entire organization's ability to develop a franchise quarterback. Pat and Joe also discuss appearing together along with John Fina last Friday on the Rockpile Report at O'Neill's Stadium Inn and how cool it was meeting a bunch of Bills fans. That and much more. Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane has assembled one of the most complete and balanced rosters in the NFL, and the Bills have legitimate dreams of winning the franchise's first Super Bowl in 2021. However, even on a stacked team like the Bills, there are players who have demonstrated how indispensable, or absolutely necessary, their presence is to Buffalo's team successes. On the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D'Amico discuss which players (excluding All Pro quarterback Josh Allen, who we all can agree is THE most indispensable member of the Bills) they feel are the most valuable and the most essential to Buffalo's Super Bowl chances this year. Our podcasters went through and picked one offensive player and one defensive player they felt perfectly fit the Bill as the most indispensable member of the team. The selections included an offensive lineman, wide receiver, cornerback, and safety. We also test Boccacino's Bills trivia knowledge, discuss the six-year contract extension Allen recently signed, and share why 8/6 should become a holiday for Bills fans. The Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen both expressed confidence in the ability to hammer out a long-term contract extension. Turns out, both sides were right to not be worried about agreeing to a contract extension that will keep Buffalo's All Pro quarterback, the face of the franchise, in Western New York for the foreseeable future. On a breaking news episode of Billieve, host John Boccacino dissects the contract extension, which is worth $258 million with $150 million guaranteed over six years. It will keep Allen with the Bills through the 2027 season. Allen, the first QB from the 2018 class to sign a long-term extension, will be paid an average of $43 million per year (and $25 million per year guaranteed). Boccacino shares why this deal makes sense for both Allen and the Bills, why it is great news to have a deal in place before the season starts (removing a potential distraction), and how the if Allen plays as well as he did in 2020, this contract will be seen as a relative bargain. Especially when compared to the four-year, $160M extension given to Dak Prescott. The Buffalo Bills are coming off of their most successful season in 27 years, and they brought back most of their players from last year's squad that went 13-3, won the AFC East and advanced into the AFC Championship for the first time since 1993. Training camp opened Wednesday, and the competition will be intense to make the 53-man roster. On the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, host John Boccacino discusses which Bills have the most to gain during training camp. Each year, training camp battles afford an opportunity for veterans to claim (or lose) a starting role, and for rookies to lock down a spot on the active roster. Here's five players who Boccacino feels could rise up and take advantage of training camp. His list includes: Cornerback Dane Jackson, who could wrestle away the starting right outside cornerback job from incumbent Levi Wallace. Wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins, a sharp, crisp route runner with great hands who could add another dimension to the aerial attack. Defensive end A.J. Epenesa, who has added back the weight he lost last year and should revert to his quick and effective power rushing days at Iowa. Guard Ike Boettger, who performed admirably in 2020 and whose consistent and reliable play could push aside Cody Ford at left guard. Safety Jaquan Johnson, whose athleticism, instincts and ball skills could wrap up the primary backup safety role to Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer. Coming off their first appearance in the AFC Championship game since the 1993 season, the Buffalo Bills are set to begin training camp on July 28 with sky-high expectations. On the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D'Amico discuss the players/positional battles/aspects of training camp they are most looking forward to. Those topics include: Tight end Dawson Knox and whether his offseason work, including seeing a performance vision coach to help improve his hand-eye coordination to combat the drops, will pay dividends and help him take that next step forward. The Bills started the same offensive line the final eight games of the 2020 season, but third-year player Cody Ford is considered the favorite to win the starting left guard job. Can Ford can live up to his second-round draft status and secure one of the guard spots, or will Ike Boettger reclaim the job. Cut down day, specifically how general manager Brandon Beane constructs this roster and what he does with the plethora of talent along the offensive and defensive lines that don't make the 53-man roster. It's a good problem to have, and Bills fans should rest easy knowing Beane will be able to get value in trades when dealing these cut candidates. Whether second-year cornerback Dane Jackson can unseat incumbent CB2 starter Levi Wallace.
