Today I'm talking with James Guttman, author of Hi World, I'm Dad: How Fathers Can Journey to Autism Awareness, Acceptance, and Appreciation. James is the father of a nonspeaking autistic son and a neurotypical daughter, and through his writing and podcast he shares an honest, deeply personal perspective on fatherhood, autism, and the journey toward acceptance. One of the reasons I wanted to have James on the show is because we so rarely hear fathers' voices in conversations about raising neurodivergent kids. Like all of us, James's understanding has evolved over time, and I appreciated the opportunity to talk with him about that evolution, what he's learned from his children, and why acceptance has become such a central part of his story. In our conversation, we talk about fatherhood, acceptance, community, and the unexpected ways our neurodivergent kids can change us for the better. About James Guttman James Guttman is the author of Hi World, I'm Dad: How Fathers Can Journey to Autism Awareness, Acceptance, and Appreciation. As a father to a nonverbal son and a neurotypical daughter, he shares a message rooted in autism appreciation and the belief that our kids' differences hold their own beauty. His writing reached national attention when his HuffPost Personal essay drew more than 750,000 readers in a single day and became one of the most-clicked stories on Apple News. Through his long-running blog, Hi Blog! I'm Dad, James tells honest, heartfelt stories about parenting, connection, and the shared humanity between his children. James is also the author of the Amazon-bestselling Expectant Father's Activity Book, and his work has been featured by Love What Matters, The Mighty, the Organization for Autism Research, Yahoo Lifestyle, and more. A survivor of a quintuple bypass at 35 and host of the Hi Pod! I'm Dad podcast, James brings humor, vulnerability, and perspective to conversations about parenting, mental health, and raising kids in a world that doesn't always understand them. Things you'll learn from this episode How James's journey raising neurodivergent children reshaped his understanding of parenting, autism, and himself How surviving a heart attack transformed James's perspective on fatherhood, presence, and what truly matters Why fathers need more inclusive spaces, community, and support as they navigate parenting neurodivergent kids How authenticity, vulnerability, and redefining masculinity can strengthen relationships with children and challenge outdated assumptions How James's evolving relationship with his children, and his son's example, helped him become a more authentic version of himself Resources mentioned James Guttman's blog, Hi Blog, I'm Dad Hi World, I'm Dad: How Fathers Can Journey to Autism Awareness, Acceptance, and Appreciation by James Guttman James Guttman on Facebook James on TikTok Learn more about your ad choices. Episode Summary:Brandt and Will trade war stories on the gap between AI hype and AI reality: Brandt's saga of nursing a decade-old, server-killed Oculus Go back to life with Claude Code, the "caveman concept" for cutting token waste, and why Claude keeps giving up and trying to open Chrome. Will breaks down Anthropic's new (and deliberately withheld) Mythos model, plus his own iMessage-agent setup via BlueBubbles. They wrap with confidently-wrong AI moments and this week's Things of the Episode.Discussions Include:• Claude Cowork vs. Claude Code vs. Claude chat, and when to reach for each• The "caveman concept": talking to your AI simply to burn fewer tokens• Resurrecting a 10-year-old, server-bricked Oculus Go using Claude Code, ADB, and a custom APK• Anthropic's Mythos model, its bug-hunting/exploit-chaining chops, and Project Glasswing• When AI is confidently wrong (and how to stop it defaulting to "just open Chrome")Quotable Quotes (Should you choose to share): "It is so stupid sometimes... but at the same time, it is also still really, REALLY stupid sometimes." - Brandt Krueger "There's two types of people in this world: people who use AI to learn everything, and people who use AI to learn nothing." - Will Curran "It flippin' writes its own APK... " - Brandt Krueger "Definitely the power is on the code side of things. It's much smarter." - Will CurranThing of the Episode (TOTE): Brandt: Oculus Go hacking project - https://www.ebay.com/b/Oculus-Go-VR-Headsets/183068/bn_7115189259 Will: BlueBubbles - https://bluebubbles.app/

In ep 184 of “How Do You Say That?!” sponsored by britishvoiceover.co.uk, Brigid Lohrey joins Sam and Mark to talk about approaching an Apple News script in a very specific way - bringing it to full conversational, but not too rounded. We explore performances where you're left feeling, "Surely you want more than this?" Are we being told to make everything blander?? We talk about how directors can be really helpful in setting the scene for us, and how nothing moves fast underwater! Plus is it a help or a hinderance if a script is labelled as "corporate"? Our obsessions are West End theatre and summer night attire! Our VO question this week is all about whether you should be upfront about your natural accent if you come from more than one place!Get involved! Have you got a Wildcard suggestion that we should try or an idea for the show? Send it to us via Mark or Sam's social media or email it directly to podcast@britishvoiceover.co.ukScript 1Compared to the bustle of spring, it's quiet in the autumn forest; I miss the hoards of gently pulsating sea jellies that cloud the water all summer long and lament the absence of spider crabs that have migrated back to deeper water. Territorial by nature, ballan wrasse remain in residence, patrolling their patch among the kelp. I spot a chunky male, coloured amber to match the scene and greet him with a broad smile that lets a trickle of cold water into my dive mask.Script 2Murder in Paradise: The Unsolved Killings on Australia's East Coast. The NSW north coast has a disturbing history of unsolved murders and disappearances. Have its beaches, roads and rainforests been a killing ground for one or more serial killers? Written for Australian Women's Weekly. A young woman is standing on a road leading to the Pacific Highway, her thumb out, hitching. With her long hair and cut-off jeans she doesn't wait long to be picked up. She is never seen again. This scenario has happened again and again on the north coast of NSW.We'd love your feedback - and if you listen on Apple Podcasts or Spotify, hit the follow button today!**Listen to all of our podcasts here - you can also watch on YouTube, or say to your smart speaker "Play How Do You Say That?!"About our guest: Brigid Lohrey is a Tasmanian actress, who trained in London, and has been acting on stage and screen for over 20 years. I start the episode with gratitude for the love of my life, Ethel Mertz my dog, my mother, and the opportunities I have. I acknowledge the sadness of loss but cherish the happiness I have experienced. Missing Ethel's stinky breath, her spot on the velvet couch, and the way she refused to eat out of a normal dog bowl.

The Apple News Today team is off for the holiday weekend. But we are bringing you something special in place of our usual daily show: a narrated News+ article from Popular Mechanics that we're making free for everyone. It examines why thousands of cities across the country are shrinking — and what ghost towns of the past can teach us about what happens when thriving places start to fall silent. Subscribers to Apple News+ can get narrated articles like this one every day. Your News+ subscription includes access to more than 500 publications, 100,000 recipes, premium local news, exclusive daily puzzles, and much more. Click here to start your free trial today.
