The Buffalo Bills are coming off of their most successful season in 27 years, and they brought back most of their players from last year's squad that went 13-3, won the AFC East and advanced into the AFC Championship for the first time since 1993. Training camp opened Wednesday, and the competition will be intense to make the 53-man roster. On the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, host John Boccacino discusses which Bills have the most to gain during training camp. Each year, training camp battles afford an opportunity for veterans to claim (or lose) a starting role, and for rookies to lock down a spot on the active roster. Here's five players who Boccacino feels could rise up and take advantage of training camp. His list includes: Cornerback Dane Jackson, who could wrestle away the starting right outside cornerback job from incumbent Levi Wallace. Wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins, a sharp, crisp route runner with great hands who could add another dimension to the aerial attack. Defensive end A.J. Epenesa, who has added back the weight he lost last year and should revert to his quick and effective power rushing days at Iowa.  Guard Ike Boettger, who performed admirably in 2020 and whose consistent and reliable play could push aside Cody Ford at left guard. Safety Jaquan Johnson, whose athleticism, instincts and ball skills could wrap up the primary backup safety role to Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer. Coming off their first appearance in the AFC Championship game since the 1993 season, the Buffalo Bills are set to begin training camp on July 28 with sky-high expectations. On the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D'Amico discuss the players/positional battles/aspects of training camp they are most looking forward to. Those topics include: Tight end Dawson Knox and whether his offseason work, including seeing a performance vision coach to help improve his hand-eye coordination to combat the drops, will pay dividends and help him take that next step forward. The Bills started the same offensive line the final eight games of the 2020 season, but third-year player Cody Ford is considered the favorite to win the starting left guard job. Can Ford can live up to his second-round draft status and secure one of the guard spots, or will Ike Boettger reclaim the job. Cut down day, specifically how general manager Brandon Beane constructs this roster and what he does with the plethora of talent along the offensive and defensive lines that don't make the 53-man roster. It's a good problem to have, and Bills fans should rest easy knowing Beane will be able to get value in trades when dealing these cut candidates. Whether second-year cornerback Dane Jackson can unseat incumbent CB2 starter Levi Wallace. On the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D’Amico continue their offseason State of the Bills series of podcasts by breaking down and reviewing the contributions the Bills got from their offensive linemen in 2020. While the Bills set a franchise record for points scored (501) last year, the offense was not without its warts. We discuss the offensive line's strengths (pass protection) and weaknesses (run blocking) as Buffalo's linemen did a great job at protecting quarterback Josh Allen (sacked only 26 times, eighth-fewest in the league) while more often than not failing to open up holes for the running backs. This was going to be a heavily-scrutinized position this offseason, but general manager Brandon Beane has already taken steps to improve the o-line re-signing right tackle Daryl Williams to a team-friendly three-year contract extension while getting center Mitch Morse to restructure his contract. We address what retaining Williams means for the o-line, analyze why Dion Dawkins is a rock at left tackle, speculate on whether Cody Ford can live up to his potential as a starting guard, discuss the pros and cons of bringing back guard Jon Feliciano, and assess Morse’s play as the anchor of the offensive line. We also speculate on whether the Bills should bring back guard Ike Boettger and tackle Ty Nsekhe, explore whether swingman Ryan Bates can step in and provide solid production, say goodbye to guard Brian Winters, discuss the potential of tackle Trey Adams, and more. Wait til you hear about our NFL ring ceremony concept...Jonah is back in from his Fresh year of college and contributes in a big way. Maria can best be described as mildly bemused and tolerant as the guys propose the following:1) What would you do if you had the Stanley Cup for a day?2) A total reimagining of the NFL Super Bowl ring ceremony. What if NFL Super Bowl rings were turned over every year like the Stanley Cup? 50 yard line, previous winners line up across from new winners and (Benny Hill theme starts playing) each player has to find another one to wear his ring.Would there be Red Carpet event fan overlap for the Super Bowl if there was a week long leadup with players discussing the rings, their potential outfits for the ceremony and who their potential targets might be?If this sounds to you like it might be a terrible idea, maybe you need to ask yourself this question: “If Elvis Grbac, 1994 Michigan Wolverines starting QB, thinks its a great idea...is it possible that maybe I’m the one missing the point?”*If you are an NFL athlete or know an NFL athlete, please explain to us why or how you think this will be successful and who to contact to make it work.*To date, Elvis Grbac is definitely unaware of this idea and may or may not think it’s a good idea. Please visit us at https://thetragedyacademy.com On social media, you can find us at @thetragedyacademypodcast on Instagram, The Tragedy Academy Podcast on Facebook, and @tragedy_academy on Twitter.  Don't forget to subscribe, download, rate, and review! (39:50) Superbowl ring exchange proposal.(38:05) Stanley Cup lightning rod hat viral video. #nfl #football #sports #nba #nfldraft #nflnews #superbowl #nflfootball #life #mlb #espn #nflmemes #americanfootball #madden #touchdown #afc #nfc #comedian #laugh #rogan #bertkreischer #pattonoswalt #offensive #chrisrock #chappelle #equality #collegefootball #fantasy #roto #fantasyfootball #redcarpet #fashion #comedy #funny #hilarious #ridiculous #timanderic #joke #standup #lol #nfl #football #sports #nhl #stanleycup

The Buffalo Bills (7-3) return from their bye week poised for another high-octane shootout when they host the Los Angeles Chargers (3-7) on Sunday, and on the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D’Amico have everything you need to know for the Week 12 clash. Among the topics discussed on the podcast: What should Bills fans make of the Chargers inability to close out games Will Josh Allen and the passing attack be able to take advantage of the Chargers vulnerabilities in the secondary? With wide receiver John Brown ruled out for the game, there is an opportunity for rookie wide receiver Gabriel Davis to shine. Rookie quarterback Justin Herbert sure hasn't played like a rookie thus far, completing nearly 70 percent of his passes for 2,700 yards with 22 TDs and only six interceptions. What are the keys for the Bills defense to confuse Herbert and make him play like a rookie? Why Ed Oliver and Quinton Jefferson need to cause chaos with their presence on the front four, and how they have winnable matchups vs. an under-performing Chargers' offensive line.. Did Buffalo do enough during the bye week to improve both its rushing attack and its rushing defense? What is the future of center Mitch Morse, and what could a new-look offensive line look like with guard Cody Ford sidelined for the rest of the year? Plenty of points should be scored in this game. After answering these questions, our podcasters offer up their score predictions for the game. The Buffalo Bills (7-2) look to make another statement when they travel to face the Arizona Cardinals (5-3) on Sunday, and on the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D’Amico have everything you need to know for the Week 10 clash. The Bills will have to take on Kyler Murray and the high-flying Cardinals without four key contributors after cornerback Josh Norman tested positive for COVID-19 Saturday afternoon Norman was the only Bill to test positive, though three players were deemed to be close contacts and, therefore, were placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list in cornerback Levi Wallace, tight end Tyler Kroft and safety Dean Marlowe. After discussing this breaking news and offering up our thoughts on how this will impact the Week 10 showdown with the Cardinals, Boccacino and D'Amico turned to how the Bills will try and contain Murray, Arizona's second-year quarterback who is a dangerous threat with his legs and his arm. Murray, who ranks eighth in the NFL in rushing yards (543) while averaging 7.1 yards per rush, loves to scramble and gain yards on designed runs, and like they did last week vs. Russell Wilson, Buffalo's front four will once again need to win their one-on-one matchups while not over-pursuing when trying to tackle Murray. Linebacker A.J. Klein will need to duplicate his career game from last week, while Tremaine Edmunds might split reps at middle and outside linebacker to confuse Murray. Among the other topics discussed: Look for Edmunds to play more outside linebacker, to both make the most of his sideline-to-sideline speed and to better contain Murray. Fellow linebacker A.J. Klein will need to duplicate his career game from last week. Tre'Davious White vs. DeAndre Hopkins will be must-watch action as the two All Pros square off for the first time since the Wild Card round in 2019. With Norman, Wallace and Marlowe out, the pressure will be on Dane Jackson and Daryl Worley to step up and help White in the secondary. Murray and the Cardinals' Air Raid offense loves to line up in a spread formation (more than 70 percent of the time). How will Buffalo's zone defense try and limit the damage that Hopkins, Christian Kirk and Larry Fitzgerald can do through the passing game. On the other side of the ball, Allen thrust himself back into the MVP conversation with his stellar performance vs. Seattle. While Arizona has Patrick Peterson as a shutdown cornerback, Stefon Diggs, John Brown and Cole Beasley will all have winnable matchups, especially if safety Budda Baker misses the game. Boccacino expects Brown to run wild against his former team, while D'Amico has selected tight end Dawson Knox as his x-factor on offense. The status of center Mitch Morse, guard Cody Ford, and safety Micah Hyde is concerning, but if their injuries are still nagging, the Bills might be best served (long-term) holding them out of Sunday's tilt. Plenty of points should be scored in the desert. After answering these questions, our podcasters offer up their score predictions for the game. What's the perfect remedy for the Buffalo Bills (4-2), who are reeling after a two-game slide? A matchup with the winless New York Jets (0-6). On the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D’Amico have everything you need to know for the Week 7 matchup. In what is shaping up as a get-right game for both Buffalo's offense and defense, our podcasters discuss whether this is the week Buffalo gets its ground game going, whether opposing defenses have figured out a way to stop Josh Allen and the offense, how a depleted Buffalo secondary can rise to the occasion vs. an inept Jets offense, whether the Bills can resolve their defensive issues, and more. Allen will need to show he can handle the pressure that Jets' defensive coordinator Gregg Williams is sure to bring, including blitz packages. If Allen can quickly identify the open receivers in Williams' man coverage, wide receivers Stefon Diggs and Cole Beasley should have a field day against the Jets secondary. Running back Devin Singletary has a nice bounce-back opportunity against a Jets run defense that is vulnerable, if only Buffalo's offensive line can rediscover its run blocking prowess. Buffalo does have a ton of injuries to deal with and will be missing several key starters, including wide receiver John Brown, tight end Dawson Knox, guard Cody Ford, cornerback Josh Norman and linebacker Tyrel Dodson. With Tre'Davious White and Cam Lewis listed as questionable, the Bills could be without three cornerbacks vs. the Jets and must find a way to contain wide receiver Jamison Crowder, who always performs well vs. Buffalo. Can Jerry Hughes, Ed Oliver, Mario Addison and the defensive line take advantage of a weak Jets offensive line to create pressure on Sam Darnold/Joe Flacco? Boccacino and D'Amico address White's impact on the defense and the rest of the cornerbacks, then dive into the signing of right guard Brian Winters, including why general manager Brandon Beane made an astute move bringing in the former New York Jets' starting right guard and how this move should mean Cody Ford will remain at right tackle.
