In this Bonus Hour of the The Financial Guys Podcast, the guys dig into why union workers have dramatically shifted their political loyalties, how media echo chambers distort immigration and crime statistics, and why accountability in law enforcement and government leadership matters more than ever. They break down the difference between legal and illegal immigration when it comes to business ownership, call out the misuse of data used to shape public opinion, and make the case for passing voter ID legislation before the midterms. Plus, a quick sports sidebar on the Patriots' dominance of the AFC East and their Super Bowl legacy wraps up the hour. An AFC East team is staying in house for its new coaching hire to guide the NFL's reigning MVP. Correspondent Gethin Coolbaugh reports.
Craig Carton and Chris McMonigle react to the shocking news that Philip Rivers interviewed to become the Buffalo Bills head coach — and Carton loves the idea. The guys tear into AFC East ownership, explain why Terry Pegula is a problem in Buffalo, why Jets fans shouldn't fear the Dolphins or Bills, and why the Patriots' run is being massively overrated. Plus, Carton debates whether quarterbacks make the best head coaches, calls the Patriots “paper tigers,” previews Patriots vs Broncos with Jarrett Stidham, and welcomes Mark Schlereth for an all-time interview filled with football insight and classic WFAN insanity.
Just when you think the worst ideas in regards to how to fix the Jets QB situation comes from “randos” on x, along comes ESPN and outdoes all of them. https://api.spreaker.com/v2/episodes/69525921/download.mp3 From the worldwide leader in sports, an nfl executive said the Jets would have available to them, Geno Smith, Tua Tagovaiola or Kyler Murray. And no, we’re not joking. Directly from ESPN.com: This notion isn’t exactly bold — all three quarterbacks appear to not be in the long-term plans of their current franchises. But they are each former Pro Bowlers and several teams have a glaring need at the position each year. “Do the Jets get one of those three — that’s really the question I have,” an AFC executive said. “They could go young and load up for the 2027 draft of quarterbacks, but the head coach [Aaron Glenn] probably needs to win, so he might need more of a reliable option.” Miami and Arizona are saddled with large guarantees on deals with Tagovailoa and Murray, respectively. Murray would make more sense to New York, given Tagovailoa’s ties to the AFC East, but not everyone is convinced Arizona owner Michael Bidwill would pay a significant portion of Murray’s $37 million in guarantees for him to not play in Arizona. Smith’s contract is more manageable, with $18.5 million already guaranteed for 2026 (another $8 million becomes fully guaranteed on the third day of the new league year). The 35-year-old spent his first four seasons with the Jets, throwing 28 touchdowns and 36 interceptions before moving on. The Jets will need to make significant plans for a veteran passer regardless. Let’s look at each one realistically. Geno Smith: Say what you will about Woody Johnson, but even this move is beneath him. The owner is going to try to sell the fan base on a new quarterback as he raises ticket prices yet again. There is no way he’s going to sign off on bringing in a former malcontent as his production dips to unacceptable levels after enjoying a few good seasons. Tua Tagovailoa: Tua’s extensive and concerning concussion history should make him an automatic “NO” for the Jets. Especially if the plan is to draft a quarterback who won’t be rushed into action. Kyler Murray: An undesirable option who would be the “best” of the three. You can at least say Murray is young(ish), has had some success and beat you with his arm and legs. There would of course be questions about his work ethic, but the Jets would have to dismiss that and say it has been overblown or he outgrew his laid back approach. The post ESPN Exec has Three Very bad Ideas for Jets to add QB appeared first on JetNation.com - New York Jets Blog & Forum.
The Buffalo Bills officially parted ways with head coach Sean McDermott on Sunday, bringing an end to a nine-season era defined by consistency, contention, and unfinished business. Under McDermott, the Bills snapped a 17-year playoff drought, reached the postseason eight times, compiled a 106–58 record, and captured five AFC East titles. Yet despite sustained success, Buffalo never reached a Super Bowl, often undone by a defense that surrendered 33.2 points per game in postseason losses. The Bills now find themselves in rare and frustrating company: one of only four teams to win a playoff game in six straight seasons, alongside the '90s Cowboys, the 2010s Patriots, and the modern Chiefs dynasty. Those teams all took home THREE Lombardi Trophies during their runs, yet the Bills don't have a single Super Bowl appearance to show for it. So where does Buffalo go from here? We break it all down and more on this episode of the pod.

In the final show of the year, there's only one hour to describe how awesome of a game yesterday and a season Drake Maye has been having. What level of success can Maye be capped at and should we be more serious about his MVP chances. Then, the AFC East is clinched and now the Patriots will look towards the number one seed. However, the Chargers are sitting their starters who could pull the upset against the Broncos. And, there shouldn't be any doubt about what the Pats have to play for in their regular season finale against the Dolphins this Sunday.

The NFL Playoff Picture is coming into full view but teams really muddy-ed the waters with the results of week 16 across the NFL. The Jacksonville Jaguars dropped their statement win of the season on the Denver Broncos and now about 5 different teams can win the AFC's #1 seed. Trevor Lawrence and Co showed they are a legit Super Bowl contending team. The New England Patriots rallied behind Drake Maye and knocked off the Baltimore Ravens to stay a game ahead of the Bills in the AFC East. The Pittsburgh Steelers held on to win a whacky game in Detroit, earning our Hemingway moniker but today DK Metcalf found out that he will be suspended for the final two games of the 2025 NFL season. The Chargers, Texans and Bills all won over teams already eliminated so they could keep pace in the playoff race. And in the NFC, the Eagles took care of the Commanders on Saturday afternoon to feel better about their chances in the playoffs. The Bears had a miraculous comeback against the Packers to further solidify their claim to the NFC North throne. And the fellas breakdown the wild NFC South, a division that both teams, the Panthers and Buccaneers, both seemingly don't want to win.
