There is a thing you want. You know what it is. You have known what it is for a long time. And somewhere, somehow, you have made peace with not having it. Quietly. Without ceremony. Without ever naming the moment you stopped reaching. This episode is about that moment. Not the wanting. Not the failure to reach. The decision that was already made underneath both. The decision your identity made on your behalf, without your knowledge, and possibly without your soul's survival in mind. A samurai kneels in a Kyoto garden at dawn, ready to die for the code. A butler sits in the back of a car, watching the woman he loved disappear in the rearview mirror. Different uniform. Different century. The same prison. Neither man built that prison from weakness. They built it from the best of themselves. The most devastating prisons are not built from your worst. They are built from your best. This is Season Two, Episode Two of The Polymathic Perspective. The second installment in a ten-episode investigation into what we want but refuse to accept. We examine the mechanism through neuroscience, identity psychology, identity foreclosure, the Emotional Source Code, and the Emotional Meaning Architecture. We watch it operating in Ishiguro's "Remains of the Day" lead character 'Stevens'. In an engineering company that lost its soul in the boardroom, in a nation that built a vision it cannot play in. The question is not what you are afraid of losing. The question is what your identity has already decided you cannot have. And whether that decision is actually yours. Welcome to the World Cup of… what? You'll have to listen to this Memory Lane special to find out. We've borrowed the World Cup format, and Sam's spreadsheet has generated 48 Blades, sorted by position, then thrown them into a full tournament structure of groups, knockouts, arguments and inevitable injustice.Andrew, David, Paul and Sam each take charge of one section of the draw, defending their players on whatever grounds they choose: ability, stats, memories, cult status, vibes, nostalgia or outright nonsense. This is quick-fire remembering, World Cup-style. We aren't simply pitting best against best. There are minnows, underdogs and, yes, a few actual dogs in the fight.Part One takes us from the live draw through to the Round of 32. Episode Two will take us all the way to the final. Get full access to The Pinch at www.thepinch.uk/subscribe
In 1936, cannabis was portrayed as a menace to society. By 1993, it was simply part of the furniture.Episode Two of Helping or Hurting? revisits Dazed and Confused, Richard Linklater's cult classic set on the last day of school in 1976. Far removed from the hysteria of Reefer Madness, this film presents cannabis not as a threat, but as a quiet and unremarkable presence in the lives of American teenagers. But was this shift a step forward?Hosted by Paul O'Donoghue of Give & Toke, alongside Joel and Bash of Exotican, this episode explores whether Dazed and Confused helped normalise cannabis through relatability, or reinforced stereotypes that continue to shape public perception today.Part cultural time capsule, part social commentary, this conversation examines the intersection of cinema, stigma, and progress. This four-part series from Give & Toke and Exotican examines how cannabis has been portrayed on screen, and whether those portrayals have helped or hindered reform.Give & Toke: https://giveandtoke.comExotican: https://exotican.com.au
Episode Two of the final season of this amazing series finds us bouncing back and forth between the present, the nineteen twenties, and the nineteen seventies. The search is on for Elliot's time jumping mother with both Kat and Alice keeping the pond busy in the pursuit. Join us at the table as we try to make sense of it all right here in The Hallmark Cafe!
My friend Greg Price (writer, scientist, businessman, philanthropist—see bio at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gregory_Prince) joins us to talk about his book “Gay Rights and the Mormon Church: Intended Actions, Unintended Consequences” released in 2019. In this episode, Greg talks the history of the Church approach to homosexuality—going from the behavior model (it's a choice) to *mostly* the biological model (it's not a choice). Greg's book documents when the Church started talking about this (1960's), what was said, the impact, and how we have gradually moved to where we are today. Greg talks about these painful chapters (including when just identifying as gay would get your excommunicated and expelled for Church schools). To understand the road our LGBTQ members and their families are walking, I believe it is important to understand where we have come from—which is sobering as we learn the reality of early days and the impact of LGBTQ members and their families. Further, I think it helps our minds and hearts be open to the need to continue to bring more understand and support—as I feel we are not at the finish line as we work to expand the boarders of Zion. Episode Two will focus on the Church LGBTQ legal efforts (starting with Hawaii in the 1990s) to where we are today. Thank you Greg for being on the podcast and all your efforts to bring more understanding and support for LGBTQ Latter-day Saints and their families. A very eclectic mix in Episode Two of the WILD theme in Australian Music. We range from an Old Time Dance number to the contemporary sounds of the Birds of Tokyo. In between we'll hear Johnny Devlin singing a Calypso version of a song that was to become Johnny O'Keefe's signature tune! A truly beautiful WILD song rounds out the set from the duo of Kate Ceberano and Paul Grabowsky. Enjoy Episode Two of the WILD theme in Australian Music.

Rusty Field, President & CEO of Evenstad Estates (home of Domaine Serene), joins RiskCellar hosts Brandon Schuh and Nick Hartmann for a side-by-side tasting of four wines, two from Burgundy and two from Oregon's Willamette Valley. Rusty shares the career journey that took him from United Health Group and Ameriprise Financial to Upsher-Smith Laboratories, and ultimately to leading one of America's most awarded wineries. The episode covers the science of winemaking. Why Pinot Noir thrives at the 45th parallel in both Oregon and Burgundy, how French oak barrels protect wine through tight grain structure, and why the 2022 Evenstad Reserve Chardonnay won Best Wine by Quality at the 2025 Sommeliers Choice Awards. Rusty breaks down the difference between volcanic Jory soil in the Dundee Hills and Burgundy's limestone-rich gravel terroir. The back half pivots to the 2020 Oregon wildfire vintage, frost candles in Burgundy, mildew wiping out 70% of the 2024 Côte de Nuit crop, and how Evenstad uses library wine inventory as a hedge. Episode Two of Chasing the Wind turns our attention to how we approach God. Solomon warns that it is possible to believe in God and still treat Him casually. In Ecclesiastes 5, he calls us to guard our steps, listen carefully, and remember who God truly is. In this episode, we learn that real spiritual growth begins when reverence replaces routine and obedience replaces empty words. The second rule for catching what lasts is simple but powerful: stand in awe of God.Follow Coach Dan Holland:Facebook ➡️ https://www.facebook.com/CoachDanHollandYouTube ➡️ @CoachDanHollandVisit us online
The Devil Within Prayers for the Damned — Episode Two: The Exorcism That Broke the Church's Silence In August 1928, Father Theophilus Riesinger arrived at a secluded convent in Earling, Iowa. He believed he was performing an exorcism. Instead, he walked into a spiritual war that had been building for 105 years. Episode Two documents the most detailed and widely reported exorcism in American history — a twenty-three-day ordeal that tested the limits of ritual, endurance, and belief. This episode explores: Anna Ecklund's condition upon arrival at the convent Reports of multiple entities speaking through her voice Supernatural strength, levitation, and unknown languages Psychological warfare against priests and nuns The emotional and physical toll on everyone involved A radical shift in strategy: instead of fighting the demons… allowing them to reveal themselves As the entities expose their methods and motives, a disturbing possibility emerges: Anna isn't just possessed. She's a spiritual anchor — the center of a network of damage spread over decades. The Turning Point Father Riesinger abandons traditional exorcism. Instead of resistance, he allows full manifestation — a dangerous gamble that ultimately reveals the limits of the forces inside her. On December 23, 1928, at 3:17 PM, Anna speaks in her own voice for the first time in more than a century. The voices are gone. But the victory comes at a cost. Themes in This Episode The psychological toll of prolonged spiritual conflict Institutional faith pushed to its breaking point The idea that some possessions are transformations, not conditions A haunting question: If suffering defines a person, what remains when it's removed? Anna lived twelve more years after the exorcism — quiet, withdrawn, and described by witnesses as spiritually “translucent.” Saved. But never the same. Call to Action If this story challenged your understanding of faith, evil, and the human mind: Because sometimes the real horror isn't possession… It's the price of being set free.

The Track That Ate Him Vancouver 2010 → Haunted Host Cities → Italy Adjacency In 2010, the Winter Olympics arrived in Vancouver polished to a mirror shine — perfect lighting, perfect branding, perfect spectacle. And then, before the Opening Ceremony even began… the world watched a young man die. Episode Two is where the story becomes modern horror: Vancouver 2010, Whistler Sliding Centre, one luge run at nearly unthinkable speed — and one moment that turned Olympic infrastructure into a permanent ghost. But this episode isn't only about what happened on camera. It's about what happens to places after tragedy — how host cities become haunted, how tracks become shrines, how mountains remember what humans try to forget. And finally, we widen the lens toward Italy: the quieter, untelevised side of the Olympic dream — where ambition can still end behind closed doors, long before the world is watching. Because winter doesn't care about the Olympics. Winter only cares what it can take. In this episode: • Vancouver 2010: the day the Olympics lost its innocence in real time • Why “fixes” made after tragedy carry a darker implication: if it could change after… why not before? • How modern media turns death into replay — and replay into haunting • The hidden psychology of haunted host cities • The unsettling adjacency truth: not all Olympic tragedies happen on television Listener warning: This episode contains discussions of accidental death during Olympic training and death-related themes. Everyone wants “the good life”—but what does that actually mean? Money, Power, Influence? That's culture's definition, but Jesus answers that question in the Sermon on the Mount, where He lays out a vision of life that's fuller, freer, and deeper than anything the world offers. It's not about chasing status, stuff, or surface-level peace. It's about becoming the kind of person who reflects Heaven on Earth. In this series, we'll explore how to live the good life—Jesus' way. Welcome to Episode Two of the Good Life: Shine Anyway
How do dramatic questions create tension? In this episode, Stu and Chas delve into the cultural phenomenon of ADOLESCENCE. We try to find the craft tools that have made the show so compelling and such a catalyst for conversation. In particular, we breakdown how the show's emphasis on questions creates tension: not just tension through plot, but tension through character, and ultimately tension through theme. We analsyse the show episode-by-episode, and discuss how the overall structure skilfully shifts from a plot-heavy police procedural towards a thematic-heavy melodrama and the impact that has on our experience. We discuss how the decision to shoot the show in a series of “oners” affects the writing and what tools we can take from that to apply to our own writing (even if we're not writing it to be a one-shot): POV characters, handovers, French scenes, emotional events, and more.
