Joined today by award winning journalist and author of the new true-crime book, "Vanished in Vermillion, The Real Story of South Dakota's Most Infamous Cold Case", Lou Raguse. Lou and I chat about his home state of Minnesota, iconic food, most famous Minnesotan and his Vikings. Lou tells us about covering high profile cases and what made the 1971 disappearance of Pam Jackson and Cheryl Miller intrigue him so much that he decided to write his first book about the case. We talk about the facts of the case, 2 high school girls go for a drive to a keg party and the car in front of them made a right turn, they made a left turn, and they were never seen again. Lou gets into the incompetence of the police in the early 70's, the closing of the case and why it was accepted. We discuss the forming of the Cold Case unit, why this case was chosen to be investigated and how a person already in prison became suspect number 1. Lou talks about the suspect, his surprise when the charges were dropped and the roller coaster of emotions covering the case. We hear about Lou reporting in Buffalo when the missing girls' car was found, his reaction, and how they identified Pam and Cheryl. Lou and I go over all the mistakes the police made early on, why the case should have been wrapped up in a weekend and the reaction to the book being written. He tells us the possibility of the book being optioned into a show/movie, the difficulty of getting the book published, and what is possibly next for him. Lou finishes up talking about jumping around from city to city, why he calls Minnesota home and how he conducted in interview with the two Japanese men who created Tecmo Bowl. All this and more with the award winning reporter and author. Follow Lou here:  https://www.louraguse.com/

Pam Jackson, CEO of Level20, joins Winna Brown to reveal how mentorship programs can help women build long-term careers in PE.  According to a report that EY teams recently published on diversity, equity and inclusiveness (DEI), the private equity industry's ability to meet stakeholder demands, access capital, win deals and compete for talent is increasingly contingent on progress against DEI metrics. Talent management has become the number two strategic priority across PE firms of all sizes, second only to asset growth. DEI initiatives are now proliferating in private equity as the industry begins to address how its culture has historically impeded diversity. In modern healthcare, the focus is detecting problems early, when they can be treated more easily. Since 1 in 8 women develop breast cancer, mammograms are a critical part of maintaining a long, healthy life. 3D mammography gives radiologists the ability to search breast tissue one millimeter at a time for any concern, and can give you a 15 month head-start on removing breast cancer before it grows and spreads. Every woman is encouraged to get a mammogram screening every year starting at age 40, or sooner if there are other risk factors. A year can make a huge difference, and radiology technicians have seen women come back in 6 months with pain from aggressive breast cancer. The process is quick and can be very comfortable using newer equipment.Pam Jackson, who has performed mammogram screenings for 23 years, joins the Pulse to discuss how the mammogram machine works, what the current recommendations are, and how important it is for an annual screening.Learn more by visiting www.perrymemorial.org/podcast

She then made significant life changes that led to her ability to successfully lose the weight and keep it off permanently. Pam now shares her story and her recipes on her blog Healthywithcurves.com and inspires others around the world to make the necessary life changes to live a happy and healthy life. http://healthywithcurves.com For the last 20 plus years, Pam Jackson had been extremely overweight. Her weight ranged from 250 to 260 pounds during that time. She knew she was at an unhealthy weight, but did not want to put in the effort to do anything about it. For an event she would lose 10 or so pounds with fad diets, but then she would always gain the weight right back after the event. In August 2011 at the age of 41, she decided to try again and not give up this time. She realized that losing and maintaining weight are lifestyle changes, not just a temporary diet. By January 2013, she had lost 100 pounds and as of today she is still enjoying her healthier lifestyle to the fullest. On her blog she shares delicious recipes from my kitchen and other fantastic bloggers.
