Whatever doesn’t melt you makes you stronger — and Instagram famous. Presented by In 2018, California endured the largest and most destructive wildfire in its history. Allyn Pierce and his Toyota Tacoma — lovingly dubbed “The Pandra” for Pierce’s modest Instagram following — drove into and out of that fire to ferry people to safety. Flames licked the mirrors, smoldering logs baked the tires — but The Pandra kept moving, and Pierce kept driving. An ICU nurse manager, he flipped into crisis mode, knowing there were still people stranded at the hospital where he worked. What ensued became a seemingly apocryphal tale of heroism — and absolutely gnarly truck porn! The devastating Camp Fire erased the town of Paradise, Calif. But it couldn’t stop Pierce or The Pandra.

Before you listen to this episode we need to take a step back and understand what happened in Northern California in 2018. If you are from the West Coast, or even anywhere in the United States, you more than likely already know of what now appears to be "regular" fire seasons. At the time the ‘Camp Fire’ was the deadliest wildfire in California history. The towns of Paradise and Concow were almost completely destroyed, each losing about 95% of their structures, while the towns of Magalia and Butte Creek Canyon were also largely destroyed. Paradise is around 50 miles north of the California state capital, Sacramento.I was connected to Allyn Pierce by Nick Ashby from Rockstar Garage. You might remember Allyn, moreso probably his Toyota Tundra, better known as Pandra due to his experience of surviving the 2018 Paradise Fire that devastated the city of Paradise, California. Pierce works in healthcare by day as a nurse but will forever be remembered for his bravery and astonishing heroics. His story which is remembered through social media is the life-affirming tale of real heroism in the face of what felt a certain death.I caught up with Allyn two years after the experience to talk about how extraordinary things have happened to someone who considers themself to be just a regular guy. But Allyn Pierce, a local nurse from Paradise, drove his Toyota Tundra — AKA the Pandra — through the flames several times to help his neighbors and colleagues make it to safety. Since then, Allyn has been enjoying his new truck and inspiring others by sharing his story, truly making the best out of a horrible situation, and he’s really become part of the Toyota family. Pandra Richie began her real estate career more than 30 years ago, and has held many positions within the industry. She moved to the corporate side of the real estate industry in 1988, focusing on relocation and real estate owned (REO) properties. Since that time, she has served as a vice president with four major real estate companies, including her former role at Long & Foster, and she is currently president of Corporate Real Estate Services (CRES) at Long & Foster Real Estate. As president of CRES, Richie oversees the company’s relocation, REO and e-Real estate departments, as well as Metro Referrals and SMARTMOVE. She has earned Worldwide ERC’s Meritorious Service Award and four Worldwide ERC Distinguished Service Awards. She was also inducted into Worldwide ERC’s Hall of Leaders in 2010. Richie holds the Senior Certified Relocation Professional (SCRP) designation and the Senior Global Mobility Specialist – Talent (SGMS-T) designation. She has served on numerous Worldwide ERC committees and currently serves as chairman of the Board of Directors for Worldwide ERC. Richie has also written several articles for MOBILITY magazine and was a former trustee on Worldwide ERC’s Foundation for Workforce Mobility. Richie was recognized with the President’s Service Award from Leading Real Estate Companies of the World and is a lifetime member of Montclair Who’s Who in Real Estate. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Texas at Dallas and currently resides in Northern Virginia.
