Send us Fan MailThe 2027 Ford Bronco Filson looks like a premium outdoor collaboration on the surface, but the bigger story may be what Ford did not say. Ford kept calling this new Bronco “premium,” not “luxury,” and that word choice could matter if the rumors about a future Lincoln off-roader based on the Bronco platform turn out to be true.In this week's Pickup Truck Talk news recap, Cory breaks down the new Bronco Filson after spending time with Ford and Filson in the Pacific Northwest. He looks at the Raptor-inspired hardware, including the 3.0L EcoBoost V6, Sasquatch package, Fox shocks and 35-inch tires, plus the quieter cabin, power running boards and premium interior touches that may hint at where the Bronco platform is headed next. The Real Reason Toyota Tundra Engines Are Failing

Send us Fan MailToyota has expanded its twin-turbo V6 engine recall again, and this time we finally have a better idea why these engines are failing.According to a newly filed NHTSA report, Toyota spent months tearing down engines, analyzing failed components, and conducting laboratory testing. The investigation led engineers to one component in particular: the #1 main bearing. The company says machining debris, often called "swarf" in the manufacturing industry, may not have been fully removed during production. That debris can contaminate the bearing, causing wear, engine knocking, rough running, and in some cases complete engine failure. In this video, I break down: ► Toyota's latest recall filing ► Why the #1 main bearing matters ► What Toyota's engineers discovered during testing ► The role of metal shavings (swarf) in engine failures ► How this recall differs from previous Tundra engine recalls ► What current Tundra owners should knowThe biggest surprise? Toyota's investigation found the same wear patterns seen in earlier recalled engines, suggesting the problem extended further into production than originally believed.Do you own a 2024 Toyota Tundra? Have you experienced engine issues? Let me know in the comments below.Support the show

Send us Fan MailGas prices are rising again, yet truck buyers still keep choosing V8 engines over smaller turbocharged powertrains. In this week's Truck News Recap, I dive into why reliability may matter more to truck owners than fuel economy numbers.I discuss comments from Jim Farley about continued V8 demand, despite Ford spending years promoting EcoBoost turbocharged engines as the future of trucks. I also break down the latest developments with the Toyota Tundra engine recall and why many owners are once again asking for the return of proven V8 power. We also look at Ram truck sales growth and the impact of bringing the Hemi V8 back into the lineup after customer backlash to the Hurricane inline-six engines. Plus, I revisit Ford's original EcoBoost torture-test program from 2011 and why the debate over turbocharged engine durability still hasn't gone away 15 years later. Finally, I examine whether rising fuel prices actually reduce truck sales and why many truck owners still prioritize towing capability, long-term durability, and engine reliability over MPG ratings.Let me know in the comments:Would you choose better fuel economy or a proven V8 engine for your next truck?Get your Screen ProTech screen protector:https://screenprotech.com/timJoin our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/c/pickuptrucktalkSupport the show

Looking for an honest truck review with real numbers and a big-picture take on where the market's heading? We put the 2025 Ford F-150 STX SuperCrew 4x4 through its paces and share what matters: towing capacity, payload, highway manners, and the surprising value packed into a lower-trim workhorse. The 5.0L V8 and 10-speed deliver confident power and direct steering, while the standard 12-inch screen, LED lighting, and practical 60/40 rear seat storage make daily life easier. We dig into fuel economy, pricing that ranges from budget-friendly to nicely equipped, and how the STX compares to Ram 1500, Toyota Tundra, and Chevy Silverado. Then we tee up a future compare with the F-150 King Ranch hybrid to show how far the lineup stretches. We also tell a one-of-a-kind story from GM's Janesville days: a tiny bar so close to the assembly plant that workers hopped a fence for lunch beers. It outlasted the factory before redevelopment finally erased it, making space for a proposed $8B data center. It's a vivid look at how car culture shapes communities—and how those spaces evolve.Market reality gets equal airtime. EV registrations slipped for the first time in years, and we unpack why: price sensitivity, incentive changes, and charging friction that push mainstream buyers toward hybrids. We talk brand-by-brand turbulence, Tesla's smaller dip, Cadillac's surprising pop from a low base, and Toyota's patient strategy that prizes reliability, hybrids, and measured rollouts. Plus, a rapid-fire racing calendar—NHRA in Gainesville, F1 drama over energy-saving race formats, IndyCar on a tight oval, and NASCAR weekend viewing—so your motorsports schedule is set.If you care about trucks, performance, reliability, and the shifting auto landscape, this one connects the dots with numbers, stories, and straight talk. Want a truck that works hard without the luxury price tag? We take the 2025 Ford F-150 STX SuperCrew 4x4 on real roads to see how its 5.0-liter V8, 10-speed automatic, and direct steering stack up against the high-trim hype. With 12,700 lbs of towing, 1,685 lbs of payload, and a standard 12-inch center screen, this “lower” trim still brings serious muscle and everyday comfort. We break down the maze of trims, cabs, beds, and engines, then map the pricing landscape against Ram 1500, Toyota Tundra, and Chevy Silverado to pinpoint where the value truly lives. From there, we trade spec sheets for scenery with five family-ready spring break road trips. Base out of Flagstaff for a Grand Canyon loop with Sedona red rocks and Route 66 neon, or chase ocean air on California's Pacific Coast Highway with Monterey and Santa Cruz stops. Prefer forests and wildlife? The Great Smoky Mountains deliver waterfall pullouts, easy hikes, and a Cades Cove loop with deer and black bear sightings. Desert dreamers get a cooler-season window into Utah's Mighty Five—Zion, Bryce, and Arches—where short hikes lead to vast views. And if nostalgia calls, string together Route 66 segments for vintage motels, classic diners, and Americana in motion. We also pull back the curtain on parking lot design. Why do angled spaces feel easier? When does perpendicular packing backfire? We explain 30, 45, and 60-degree tradeoffs, one-way flow, door clearance, and ADA considerations so you can pick smarter spots and keep your doors ding-free. Finally, we put the 2026 Mazda 3 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus under the microscope. With 227 hp, 310 lb-ft, upscale materials, and a compact footprint, it's a lively daily driver—though a small trunk opening and fussy infotainment hold it back. We compare it with Civic, Corolla, and Elantra to help you choose the right compact for your roads. If this helped you sort your next truck or plan a better road trip, follow the show, share it with a friend, and drop a quick review—what would you drive first, the F-150 STX or the Mazda 3?Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. Just as 7-Eleven offers too much good stuff, that's what we have in this week's episode of America on the Road. We've been driving a lot of interesting vehicles lately, and so today we thought we'd bring you not two road tests but four — 2025 Toyota Tundra, 2025 Lincoln Nautilus, 2025 Mazda CX-50, 2025 Hyundai Elantra N Line. It's a fascinating quartet of vehicles each with something special to bring to the table. Our Toyota Tundra test vehicle was a 4x4 SRS CrewMax 5.5 that blends rugged capability with modern features, offering a spacious cabin for five and a 5.5-foot composite bed equipped with a power outlet, LED lighting, and an integrated deck rail system. Powered by a 389-horsepower 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, it features part-time four-wheel drive and off-road-ready suspension. This model is equipped with the optional TRD Rally Package, adding 18-inch TRD alloy wheels, Bilstein shocks, skid plates, Crawl Control, Multi-Terrain Select, and unique TRD interior and exterior styling. Additional accessories like a TRD performance air filter, bed mat, and wheel locks further boost its practicality and rugged appeal. The big question is whether the turbo V6 matches the ability of a V8. And is the pricey TRD Rally Package worth the added price? And how does the new hybrid version of the Mazda CX-50 stack up? It pairs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with three electric motors, an EV battery, and an electronically controlled CVT to deliver 219 horsepower and 163 lb-ft of torque, along with standard electric all-wheel drive. It features Mazda's Mi-Drive modes for power and trail driving, hill launch assist, and a 1,500-pound towing capacity. The exterior is sharp with LED headlights, a panoramic moonroof, roof rails, and a power rear liftgate. Inside, the CX-50 Hybrid seats five and offers leather-trimmed seats, heated front seats, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, a power driver's seat with memory, and a wireless phone charger. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rain-sensing wipers, a wiper de-icer, keyless entry, and an electric parking brake round out the vehicle's feature list. Host Jack Nerad took this one to the desert and back, and we'll have his full report. Meanwhile, co-host Chris Teague took the wheel of the 2025 Lincoln Nautilus and the 2025 Hyundai Elantra N Line. He found the Nautilus offers a refined interior with a standard 48-inch panoramic display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Lincoln's new Digital Scent system for a personalized cabin experience. Two powertrain choices are available: a 250-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder and a 310-horsepower hybrid, both paired with standard all-wheel drive. Additional features include available BlueCruise 1.2 hands-free driving technology, premium leather seating, and an optional Revel Ultima 3D audio system. The 2025 Elantra N Line features a sport-tuned chassis, a 201-horsepower turbocharged 1.6-liter engine, and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission for sharper performance than its siblings. It comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, unique N Line exterior styling, a black mesh grille, and a sports interior with leather-trimmed seats and alloy pedals. Technology highlights include a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, wireless charging, and Hyundai's Bluelink+ connected services. So how does it match up with its most direct competitor, the Honda Civic Si? Chris and Jack will have the answers for you. In the news this week, we have a crisis on our hands, and it's not tariffs; it's uninsured motorists. They are costing each of us who has car insurance billions of dollars each year. We'll tell you what we learned about it a little later in the show. Of course, there is a lot of buzz right now about tariffs in the auto industry. We'll tell you what is real and what is hype and give you thoughts on how you should proceed if you're planning to buy a car this year.

It's been a crazy start to the year, with a lot of big changes and challenges. One of the hardest things I've gone through recently is losing my dad. He passed away from lung cancer in early December 2024 after a long battle. Even though it was a peaceful passing, it's still been really tough on the family. This winter has been relentless. We've had a ridiculous amount of snow since Thanksgiving, and I've spent a lot of time plowing. Now, don't get me wrong—I actually enjoy plowing snow—but after doing it over and over, it started to wear me down. One silver lining is that I inherited my dad's 2020 Toyota Tundra. It's been a solid truck and has come in handy more times than I can count. On a much sadder note, we had a rough time with our beagles, Benny and Percy. Percy started getting aggressive, and on Christmas, he attacked Benny badly. After multiple incidents, including one where Benny needed stitches at the emergency vet, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to put Percy down. It was incredibly difficult, but it had to be done for Benny's safety. Thankfully, the weather is starting to warm up a bit, and the snow is finally beginning to melt. I had to put my flying on hold for a while because of all the stress, but I'm hoping to get back in the air this spring. Around the house, I've been working on a few projects—running conduit for internet and electrical lines. Unfortunately, I had a storage tent collapse under the weight of all that snow. That thing is a total loss, so I'm making plans to build something more permanent to store my yard equipment. Before wrapping up, I just want to remind everyone to stay subscribed and check out my website for updates. I also post daily facts on social media if you're into that sort of thing. And who knows—maybe in a future episode, I'll even talk about politics. (Or maybe not!) Thanks for sticking with me, and I'll catch you in the next one!

We talk with SCCA Hall of Fame race car driver Randy Pobst. From his racing origins in a Mk1 VW Rabbit, to his 2 wins at the 24 Hours of Daytona, and his personal car collection – including his Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am and Flyin' Moose Volvo 740.  To start, we'll dive into Randy's racing experience: factory contracts with Porsche, Mazda, Volvo, and Toyota. Winning the 24 Hours of Daytona not once, but twice, and his 2015 induction into the SCCA Hall of Fame. We'll cover his exploits at Thunderhill, VIR, Road Atlanta, Laguna Seca, Daytona, Pikes Peak, Sonoma, Lime Rock, Willow Springs, and more!  From humble origins in a Mk1 VW Golf (no, not a GTI), to a factory-backed FX16 Toyota Corolla, to setting a Laguna Seca lap record in a McLaren Senna. Randy even worked on the set of 2 Fast 2 Furious as a driving instructor for the film's stars: Paul Walker, Tyrese Gibson, and Devon Aoki – to name a few.  Randy eventually met Jason while filming an uncooperative Cayman GT4 for Motor Trend, and, despite a rocky start when Jason unexpectedly flung a Range Rover off track while racing Randy in an Alfa Romeo 4C, the two teamed up again to film multiple Ultimate Drag Race, Lap Battle and ICONS episodes for Hagerty. The whole gang laments some of the most irritating modern car tech: excessively bright headlights, lights that are somehow off at night, ABS systems that fully shut down when traveling backwards, AEB overreach, and EPAS systems that completely ruin a car's limit handling by curtailing the driver's ability to quickly catch a slide (like the Shelby GT350 Randy repeatedly spun and Jason crinkled at Willow Springs – not to mention the Unplugged Performance Tesla Model 3 Randy famously wrecked at Pikes Peak).  Speaking of handling, Randy divulges his dislike of twitchy cars like the Jaguar F-Type R and XJ, the KTM X-Bow, and Ariel Atom. Jason on the other hand loves an ass-y car like the V12 Vantage S, but says the Lotus Exige V6 Cup was so tail-happy it was uncontrollable. The Porsche Carrera GT is somewhere in the middle with mixed reviews and experience all around. While on the topic of handling dynamics, Randy tells us his secret plan to invent a fix for the C8 Corvette's trailing throttle oversteer. He also gives praise to Porsche's Lars Kern for his work on the latest crop of RS products – which may or may not be Randy's favorite track cars of all time out of the box, alongside the 2014 Porsche 911 50th Anniversary Edition. All of which receive top marks on Randy's understeer spectrum, and are polar opposites of the likes of a 1960s Cadillac.  We'll touch on Randy's personal car collection as well, which includes a Volvo 740 sedan and wagon, his 1977 Pontiac Trans Am “Randit” (and its oil starvation woes), Toyota Tundra tow vehicle, VW Karmann Ghia and early Tesla Model S.  Plus, Derek invents a new phrase for “road rage”, Randy bitch slaps cars out of his way, and also beautifully sings Primus' Wynona's Big Brown Beaver. Man Faces Charges in “Duckgate” Scandal Linked to Karen Read Case A Massachusetts man is facing criminal charges after allegedly distributing rubber ducks and fake $100 bills in support of Karen Read, a woman accused of killing her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe. Richard Schiffer Jr., 65, has been charged with witness intimidation, criminal harassment, and littering, according to Stoughton District Court. The incidents, some locals are calling "Duckgate," have sparked controversy in the Boston suburb of Canton, where the case has divided the community. Schiffer is accused of leaving rubber ducks and counterfeit bills near homes and businesses connected to witnesses in Read's case, which has attracted a fervent group of supporters. Read, 44, of Mansfield, is accused of striking O'Keefe with her SUV outside a Canton home on January 29, 2022, and leaving him to die in a snowstorm after a night of drinking. O'Keefe's body was found the next morning outside the home of a fellow Boston police officer. Read has pleaded not guilty, and her defense team argues that she was framed as part of a conspiracy to protect individuals who were present at the home that night. They claim O'Keefe was fatally beaten, and his body was left outside to divert suspicion onto Read. Her first trial ended in a mistrial in July 2023 after the jury was deadlocked. Judge Beverly Cannone, who oversaw that trial, will return to the bench for Read's second trial, scheduled for early next year. Cannone rejected the defense's request to drop certain charges, and that decision is now being appealed to the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. In addition to overseeing the retrial, Cannone will also rule on recent requests by Special Assistant District Attorney Hank Brennan, who was appointed to lead the case last month. Brennan has asked for court authorization to reassemble and retest electronics from Read's SUV, seeking more evidence before the retrial. He has also requested cellphone records for William Read, Karen Read's father, and records related to a 2023 local media interview the Read family gave about the case. Schiffer, who admits to distributing rubber ducks and fake $100 bills, claims his actions are protected under the First Amendment. "Through the First Amendment and my right to free speech, I expressed my opinion and belief that Karen Read is innocent," Schiffer wrote in an online fundraiser seeking help with his legal fees. Schiffer's attorney has not yet been listed in court records, and CNN has reached out to him for comment. The rubber ducks reportedly reference a comment made by Read's defense attorney, Alan Jackson, during a pre-trial hearing, when he said, "If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it's a duck." Police claim Schiffer used these ducks to harass witnesses by implying they could not "duck the truth" about O'Keefe's death. Surveillance footage, traffic cameras, and witness testimony were used to link Schiffer to the incidents. The first incident occurred in March 2023, when fake $100 bills were found near D&E Pizza & Subs in Canton, a restaurant owned by a relative of the homeowner where O'Keefe's body was discovered. Over the next several months, more fake bills and rubber ducks appeared near O'Keefe's home, two bars he visited before his death, and outside homes of other witnesses. Some of the ducks carried stickers implicating a family member of the property owner where O'Keefe was found, and the fake bills bore the message “Justice for BPO John O'Keefe.” In May, investigators executed a search warrant on Schiffer's Toyota Tundra and found rubber ducks and stickers inside the vehicle. Rubber ducks were also discovered outside the home of Massachusetts State Police Trooper Michael Proctor, the lead investigator in the case. Proctor has been accused of mishandling the investigation, and after Read's first trial, he was suspended from the force without pay following revelations of inappropriate comments he made about Read in a private group chat with colleagues. Schiffer, however, maintains that his actions were peaceful and lawful expressions of his belief that Read is innocent. "Charging innocent citizens with manufactured crimes is weaponizing our justice system to silence law-abiding citizens," Schiffer wrote in a second online fundraiser. As Read's retrial approaches, the case continues to gain national attention, and the community remains divided. Schiffer's criminal charges could carry serious consequences, with witness intimidation alone carrying a potential 10-year prison sentence. Despite this, Schiffer shows no signs of backing down, asserting that he will continue to advocate for Read's innocence as she prepares to stand trial again in January. A Massachusetts man is facing criminal charges after allegedly distributing rubber ducks and fake $100 bills in support of Karen Read, a woman accused of killing her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe. The latest-generation Toyota Tundra is a popular full-size pickup. While its 5.7-liter V8 didn't carry over to the new generation, a turbocharged 3.4-liter V6, and a turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 hybrid take its spot. The top-flight hybrid powertrain shoves 479 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque through a 10-speed automatic. This truck also comes with a large touchscreen media system, comfortable seating, tech, and ride quality you'd expect from a full-size sedan.  Carrying the lower-priced load for Lexus, the ES 300h might not be as exciting as the company's LC500, but it fills an important, mid-size role. In 300h trim, this hybrid people mover packs a 2.5-liter I4 under the hood that works with an eCVT to make 215 combined system hp. This hybrid sedan might not hustle from stoplight to stoplight, but it also manages over 44 mpg combined. On this episode of Talking Cars with the Boss, Natalie Neff and Wesley Wren chat about these two vehicles and the evolving passenger car space. The pair breaks down how trucks have changed roles in the marketplace, and how mid-size sedans are losing some ground to crossovers, SUVs, and trucks. They also discuss their experiences with the respective vehicles and close the show by deciding which one they'd add to their stable.
