On this episode, we're joined by Nick Drake, director of NC State's Jeffrey Wright Military and Veteran Services, to discuss how private support enables our military-affiliated students to Think and Do. Drake has been the director for seven years this November and has seen a tremendous improvement in the already extraordinary program over that time — much of it thanks to the private support of military-affiliated alumni such as Jeff Wright '91 and his wife, Kelly Breslin Wright, and Jerry Collier '67 and his wife, Pat Collier. NC State loves the diversity that military-affiliated students bring to campus. The university proudly welcomes our nation's veterans and military families, and is a “Best for Vets,” “Top Military-Friendly” and “Military Spouse-Friendly” school. Philanthropy, including transformational gifts by the Wrights and the Colliers and special grant funding from the NC State University Foundation, makes it all possible by enabling the Pack to support these students as they transition from military life to college life and then into their chosen career field after graduation. To learn more about the Jeffrey Wright Military and Veteran Services and how you can help further its invaluable mission, please visit veterans.ncsu.edu. If you'd like to hear even more stories of Wolfpack success, please subscribe to the NC State Philanthropy Podcast today in the Apple or Google Podcast stores, on Spotify or through Stitcher. The Vibrators with John ‘Eddie' Edwards in conversation with David Eastaugh The Vibrators were founded by Ian 'Knox' Carnochan, bassist Pat Collier, guitarist John Ellis, and drummer John 'Eddie' Edwards. They first came to public notice at the 100 Club when they backed Chris Spedding in 1976. On Spedding's recommendation, Mickie Most signed them to his label RAK Records. Most produced their first single, "We Vibrate". The band also backed Spedding on his single, "Pogo Dancing". The Vibrators recorded sessions for John Peel at BBC Radio 1 in October 1976, June 1977, and February 1978. They were one of the pioneering punk bands that played at London's Roxy Club. They headlined in January 1977, supported by the Drones, and in February they played twice at the venue. In March 1977, the band supported Iggy Popon his British tour. Later that year, they backed ex-Mott the Hoople frontman Ian Hunter

The album was mixed by Pat Collier, the producer of Walking On Sunshine by Katrina and Waves. The Cutest and the Cruelest is the single from the album and reached number three in the French national download chart. To translate to French..."c'est énorme." To translate into dog years? Community Connection

Everyday Life in Middletown is a multi-media examination of ordinary life in Muncie, Indiana, led by the Center for Middletown Studies, whose mission is to build on the scholarship inaugurated by Robert S. and Helen Merrell Lynd in their landmark studies Middletown (1929) and Middletown in Transition (1937). These in-depth accounts of life in Muncie, Indiana, became classic sociological studies and established the community as a barometer of social trends in the United States. An earlier version of the Everyday Life in Middletown project was sponsored by the Virginia B. Ball Center for Creative Inquiry and the Center for Middletown Studies. The results from that seminar may be explored at this project page. The upcoming Everyday Life in Middletown project is gathering the many voices of Muncie to create a true representation of life in the city and seeks to create a rich historical archive that will be accessible to researchers and neighbors alike. The project is looking for participants, preferably by its next “diary day” on November 15th, 2017. Interested individuals may view this document for more information and contact project director Pat Collier, whose contact information is at the bottom of the document (a PDF viewer is required).

Mary E., welcomes singer/songwriter Kimberley Rew to ArtSees Diner Radio for a little chat about then and now. We will be spinning 2 of his new songs recorded with Shagrat Records.  Kimberley Rew first came to notice in the late 1970s as a member of Robyn Hitchcock's Soft Boys. In 1981 Rew made a solo single backed by American band the dBs before helping to form Katrina and the Waves, and writing 1985's evergreen Walking on Sunshine (produced by Pat Collier and Scott Litt). The Bangles also recorded Rew's Going Down to Liverpool. Katrina and the Waves toured opening for the Kinks, the Beach Boys, and Squeeze among many others. Rew concurrently guested with Ashley Hutchings, Robyn Hitchcock, Julian Dawson and Boo Hewerdine.
