Preparations have begun for the 2020 Census. As part of that effort, The Poynter Institute along with its sponsors hosted a conference, "Covering the 2020 Census," June 3 and 4 in Detroit. About 40 journalists from across Michigan, including Paula Wethington from The Monroe News, attended the workshop. This podcast is an interview with one of the speakers, Margo Anderson of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, on her specialty of the history of the Census. After decades of complaints from residents, and arguments in Lansing about the details, the Michigan House and Senate both today passed a bill that would dramatically cut car insurance premiums that have been called the highest in the country. ORIGINAL NOTE: It's the end of an era, as the River Raisin Jazz Festival will not happen again after having been a summer tradition for years in downtown Monroe, Michigan.
