But, while he was new to his office in the OEA HQ building in Columbus, he was no stranger to union leadership. In this episode of the podcast, Dan shares his thoughts about how he's using the lessons he learned as a longtime Local leader in Sylvania - especially the lessons around organizing and building relationships - to guide his work for OEA members and the learners they serve now.SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS | If you'd like to share your feedback on the Public Education Matters podcast, including your ideas for what you'd like to hear about - or talk about - on future episodes, please email educationmatters@ohea.org. Over the past decade, Dan's leadership in this space has led to him serving on the board for the statewide advocacy group, Public Education Partners, and the national organization, the Network for Public Education.Throughout his leadership journey, Dan has prioritized building relationships and creating spaces for educators to have a voice in decisions affecting our schools. He firmly believes that public education does not have to be a partisan issue and looks forward to the opportunity to work with Democrat and Republican elected officials to meet the challenges facing public education and our students.Connect with OEA:Email educationmatters@ohea.org with your feedback or ideas for future Public Education Matters topicsLike OEA on FacebookFollow OEA on TwitterFollow OEA on InstagramGet the latest news and statements from OEA hereLearn more about where OEA stands on the issues Keep up to date on the legislation affecting Ohio public schools and educators with OEA's Legislative WatchAbout us:The Ohio Education Association represents nearly 120,000 teachers, faculty members and support professionals who work in Ohio's schools, colleges, and universities to help improve public education and the lives of Ohio's children. In this episode of the Restaurant Operator Podcast, podcast host Mandy Detwiler, editor of Pizza Marketplace and QSRweb, talks to Jim Nusbaum, CEO of Barry Bagels. Nusbaum shares the brand's origin story, its expansion strategy into Texas, and the unique hub and spoke model that supports franchisees. He discusses the importance of employee culture, maximizing revenue streams through catering and wholesale, and ensuring consistency across locations. Nusbaum emphasizes the support provided to new franchisees and the qualities sought in potential partners, highlighting the investment opportunities within the brand.Barry Bagels was started by a 21-year-old operator named Barry Greenblatt who along with his partner, bagel-maker Peter Johnson, opened their first location in Sylvania, Ohio in 1972.Since then the brand has grown to Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and a recent development deal signed for 30 units in Texas.Nusbaum talked about the hub-and-spoke model in which the "hub" is the first store in any market with about 1,600 to 2,200 square feet. That store has the bagel-making capabilities. The bagels are then delivered to the "spoke" locations."Spoke locations, which need no HVAC, no walk-in cooler (and) no walk-in freezer, can be built for a fraction of the cost of the hub location. And since we're not baking there, you don't need a grease trap or the HVAC or anything like that," Nusbaum said.To learn more about Barry Bagels' operations, click the link at the top of the page.

How are you abiding in Christ and seeking God in business and life?In this episode, Jeff, Jeff, and Randy discuss: Following through on what you start.Being intentional about your faith in business.Ministering to your employees and your clients.Let God show you your priorities. Key Takeaways: Discover how God has made you. The more you can cooperate and develop that, the more the magic will happen. There is power in giving people a hand up, not just a handout.Consider tithing your time - designate some of your hours as intentional time with God or with the ministry for His Kingdom.God's calling and God's timing are often different. "If you're sensing God's calling you to something, listen to that and start pursuing that, start preparing for that. Ensure it's from God and that He wants you to do that, and what your role is, then what the timing is." — Randy Price About Randy Price: Randy and Susan Price opened Right at Home in March of 2009 after they saw the fast-growing care needs of seniors in Northeast Texas. Having a father who had Lewy Body dementia (an ugly combination of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases), Randy is even more passionate about caring for the patients and the caregivers. Before opening Right at Home, Randy and Susan served for 2 years as missionaries in Mexico. Previous to that, Randy worked in leadership roles in manufacturing for 17 years. Randy has a BA in Economics with a secondary emphasis in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin. After years of prayer, counsel & thought, Randy decided to establish Community for Hope (https://communityforhope.net/testimonials/) to more effectively minister to his 400+ employees across 10+ offices in East Texas. Randy and Susan have been married for 39 years and have seven children, six in-laws, and nine grandchildren! Randy and Susan are very involved and actively serve at Sylvania church in Tyler, Texas. If you've ever wanted to party in a magical forest where the trees are judging you and the weather is trying to kill you, this is your episode. A massive thank you to Dungeon Master Adamantine for sponsoring this episode! Whether you want to explore mythic Athens in person or dive into the underdark from your living room, Nick Fotopoulos—aka DM Adamantine—runs unforgettable sessions across systems including D&D, Call of Cthulhu, and Vampire: The Masquerade. Book a game with him at his website or at StartPlaying. Episode Summary: In this episode of the RPGBOT.Podcast, the crew ascends to the upper planes—specifically Arborea, the chaotic good realm of unfiltered passion, overflowing food, and wildly unpredictable weather. The discussion kicks off with character dynamics in tabletop RPGs, including the joys of playing support roles (bards get a lot of love), and meanders gloriously into an exploration of Arborea's distinct layers and their mythic, emotional, and environmental weight. From the fertile lands of Arvandor to the infinite-but-three-feet-deep ocean of Aqualore, and the ruin-scattered, chalk-dusted dunes of Mithardir, the hosts explore what it means to live—or afterlive—in Arborea. They compare the plane to California, invoke the chaotic energy of a 24/7 frat party to describe Sylvania, and debate whether your party name really matters. Along the way, you'll encounter sentient forests, eldritch food carts, mysterious spiriters, and a lot of strong opinions about weather patterns and campaign storytelling. Aqualore: Vast ocean, but only three feet deep. Still wet, still weird. Sea elves abound, but not much else. Mithardir: A lifeless chalk desert haunted by ruins of fallen gods and vicious storms. Good timing to have the new mayor of Sylvania on as just last week, the city released the vision and details for the downtown retrofit, as Mark Frye is calling it. The former council President, and now mayor after long time leader Craig Stough stepped down, also talk about the 23/Monroe interchange rebuild - which involves bats - turning lights out in rooms you're not in and why in the world there's so little drama in Sylvania compared to the other 3 big area municipalities. If you like highly detailed and thoroughly researched podcasts, you will love DNA ID. The show has over 100 episodes available to binge on right now. One of those episodes; episode 122, covers the case of Patricia Stichler. New Years' Day 1985 should have rung in an exciting new year for Patti Stichler and her three young daughters. Instead, in the middle of the night on January 1-2, someone slashed and stabbed Patti to death in her bedroom. Her three girls, ages 11, 9 and 6, were in their bedrooms just feet away. The oldest, Andrea, was the one to find her mom, and also found the most significant clue the police had – the open window in the blood-stained bathroom, and the gaping curtains that had been cut away from it. A knife sheath was found right outside, but the killer eluded police for decades. Sylvania, OH investigators focused on people Patti knew, but could not link anyone in her inner circle to the crime. Decades later, a very complex forensic genealogy analysis that required interpreting one-sided DNA matches, piercing adoption records, and a lot of luck, finally provided a name – and it was not who anyone suspected. Send us a Text Message. For thousands of years, the land that would become Pennsylvania was dominated by dense, ancient forests that stretched as far as the eye could see. Towering trees such as white oaks, chestnuts and hemlocks formed a vast green canopy that covered hundreds of miles. The forests were such an integral part of this landscape that it was named Pennsylvania by King Carles the Second. Penn – in honor of Sir William Penn – and Sylvania - from the Latin silva meaning woods. Penn's Woods. But as the Commonwealth grew and the United State developed as a nation, those spectacular trees would become one of Pennsylvania's greatest resources. And after decades of clear cutting millions of acres of forests, only a few hundred acres of old growth forests remained by the early 1900s. Pennsylvania's natural landscape was devastated. Wildfires spread across the land. Riverbanks were eroded and flooding occurred. Our land – effectively destroyed.Something needed to be done. Scientists, conservationists and state officials created strategies to develop and protect forests for future generations. It took the planting of millions of trees, passing legislation and a combined effort of local, state and federal government to bring us to where we are today – a vibrant, thriving Pennsylvania ecosystem. The story of Pennsylvania's natural landscape is one of abundance, exploitation and then rebirth. And I have never seen that story told better than by the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum.Located in Ulysses, this awesome museum is dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of Pennsylvania's lumber industry. It's a place where history comes alive through hands-on exhibits, live demonstrations, and a deep dive into the lives of the people who worked in one of Pennsylvania's most significant industries. On this episode, I speak with Josh Roth. Self-actualization in business and life is a lot like inventing a snowboarding move, or preparing for the Crossfit Games. You have to set a vision, have awareness, and do the work while still pacing yourself. The scary truth is: a lot of people will never self-actualize because we're afraid of this process. But there is a process you can implement to make self-actualization easier. Today, I'm joined by two athletes and entrepreneurs, Sylvania Harron and Jeff Lavin. We talk about what extreme sport can teach us about self-actualization and the secret to great leadership. The first thing a team leader needs is self-awareness. You must know your strengths and weaknesses. Typically, people think they can do everything, but true success comes from focusing on what you do best and finding others to support the areas where you're weaker. This involves clarifying what you excel at (level 8 skills) and focusing on those, while delegating other tasks to those who can handle them better. Achieving anything great requires you to focus on the nitty gritty and the 30,000ft view. at the same time. Great leaders can zoom in on the minutest details and also zoom out to see the bigger picture. In high-performance scenarios, understanding when to push hard and when to pace yourself is critical. This approach prevents burnout and ensures sustainable performance over the long term. Many people are scared of self-actualization. They avoid facing their dreams and fears because they're afraid of failure and the hard work required to reach their highest potential. However, facing these fears head-on and becoming self-aware are crucial steps toward personal and professional growth. Inventing a snowboarding trick can teach us a lot about self-actualization. You need to have air awareness, understanding the bail points to avoid injury if things go wrong, and adhere to the four P's: Practice, Patience, Persistence, and Perspective. Practice involved countless reps, refining your skills continuously. Persistence means getting back up after every fall, despite the setbacks. Perspective required external feedback, analyzing the metrics or watching video footage to align your performance with your goals. The authors of the new biblical fiction novel, Ahoti discuss their friendship across religious differences and their partnership in writing. Miriam was born in Trenton, New Jersey, and has lived in Israel since 1970. Her love affair with the Bible and ancient sources led to her series of books on daily life in Bible times, her first historical novel The Scroll, her newest novel Ahoti – The Story of Tamar, with co-author Eva Marie Everson, and hundreds of articles. That love grew over many years as a tour educator. Miriam's interest in the New Testament began with the respect that she learned for people of all faiths and cultures from her parents and her older brother and sister. Her writing, and her translating and editing of scholarly research on biblical antiquity on the one hand, and her 20 years as a translator on the news desk of the cutting-edge Israeli daily Haaretz, on the other, come together in a complex whole that, for Miriam, has made life in Israel a never-ending search for meaning, ever more so in troubled times. Eva Marie Everson is a multiple-award winning author and speaker who hails from the picturesque Southern town of Sylvania, Georgia. She is CEO of Word Weavers International (http://www.word-weavers.com/) and the director of Florida Christian Writers Conference (http://word-weavers.com/floridaevents). She enjoys coaching new authors through her company, Pen in Hand. Eva Marie and her husband make their home in Central Florida. They are the parents of three fabulous children who have blessed them with the world's greatest grandchildren. The labyrinth-like basement of the Collingwood Arts Center runs beneath the entire building complex, but only part of it is known as the Gerber basement. The Gerber basement sits beneath the Gerber House, the oldest part of the Arts Center. It is in this basement that many have encountered the most notorious phantom that is said to haunt Collingwood. This spirit is generally witnessed as being a dark, shadowy figure that floats along the ground, and often chases after those who are unfortunate enough to cross its path. Many ascribe a negative or malevolent aspect to this entity, but the truth behind who, or what, this spirit is has yet to be determined. Club Bijou Haunted Toledo's Christopher Tillman was invited to the club in May of 1999 to document the claims of employees who believed something otherworldly was lurking throughout the building. Many stories were told, hundreds of photos taken, and a 28-minute video tour of the building was conducted. Fast-forward 18 years… A former employee of the club was contacted and asked to help us tell the story of Club Bijou's haunted history. The building no longer exists. All that remains are some photos, video, many memories, and the extraordinary stories of its former employees!
