In 1990 you couldn't turn on the radio without hearing “Same Old Look” by Jimmy Ryser. Fast forward to 2017 and Jimmy has changed to Jim and his “look” is anything but the same. The musician, known for other top charting songs like “Rain Came” and who played with John Mellancamp, Tracy Chapman, and Hall and Oates, is now the Director of the Chronic Pain and Chemical Dependence programs at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. In part one of our interview with Jim, we listen to his music and mainly talk about the early days of his and his “taste of rock n roll success”, which would eventually play into the bigger role his life has taken. We get to that portion of his life in part two as we hope to enlighten and enterain you over these two episodes. For more info on Jimmy Ryser’s music: Google Jimmy Ryser or check Amazon To listen to part 2, click here.
Are we as Orthodox Christians doing enough to fill the vacuum that the radical ideology of San Bernardino thrives on? Perhaps our own lack of spiritual fortitude is part of the problem.

The Rain Came Down by David Shannon Read on 26 May 2012
Sound-Poem written at Grassington Rainbow Gathering 2006 while the rain came down... Time in a Tent in a rainstorm can be strangely comforting, especially if it's leak free and cosy, a womb within which to listen to the sounds on the roof as rain taps rhythms and quiet thoughts glide down the pen. Dr.Emoto's work on Water Crystals and Sandra Ingerman's work Healing Acid Water influences the author and Music is with us Everywhere. Recorded at the Kirkcaldy YMCA within the CBAL Radio Project tutored by Craig Harkness. We are One/ Rain - Recorded in Kirkcaldy 2010 by Me. Edited by Harky, Baz & Iain, Shuggy's men at the Y. Sound Track written and performed by Iain Davidson. Script written and performed by Lilian 'B' ( Scotland ) Silver Birch Productions (c) 2010
Video: Vimeo – YouTube Photos: Flickr – Blueback Hotrod Audio: below This was without a shadow of a doubt the most scary level of military efficiency that anything even slightly Toad-related has ever achieved. Mumford & Sons were playing to a sold-out Queen's Hall in the evening, so we had to have them in and out of the door within an hour and a half, and we actually bloody managed it! As the like of the Pictish Trail, who left Toad Hall completely plastered after his session, can testify, this isn't really what we're good at around here. So, not only did they go to extreme lengths to actually make time to record this, they did a fucking lovely job of it as well. If you watch the video for Untitled, embedded below, you'll see that they rattled our floors so hard that something actually falls off the shelves behind Marcus at the end of the video. Gavin has done a lovely job of the recording and mixing, and many thanks to Dylan for the photography and Matthew for help with the filming. As usual with the Toadcasts, there is a full set of pictures on our Flickr page, Dylan's own choices on his Blueback Hotrod page, freely downloadable and shareable mp3s of the session tracks below, a full podcast of the interview, with playlist at the bottom of the page, and videos of the individual songs themselves embedded below. I've also made a video of the whole day, with bits of interviews and excerpts from the songs, and that is embedded at the top of the page. Enjoy! And the rain came down. Beginners. Yesterday it rained most of the day. Last night it rained all night. And now, this morning, it is still raining. It doesn't often rain in this valley. Wenatchee is called a desert, and I suppose it is. However, about this time, in November, the rain comes. Sometimes it stays for a few days. It prepares us, and the ground, for the snow. At the end of November the snow comes. It stays for about four months. Some people who live in rainy Seattle get tired of the rain, but here, it is a treat. Children can put on their rubber boots and splash in the puddles. Getting wet isn't a terrible thing. You can always get dry afterwards. But you do need to be prepared: rubber boots, a long coat, and, perhaps, an umbrella. Grammar notes. To rain is a regular verb: it rains, it is raining, it rained, it was raining, it had rained. Associated words: wet, clouds, puddles, splash, soaked, drip, rubber boots, umbrella. Useful words: However, sometimes, about, I suppose. Advanced. Drip, drip, drip, pitter, patter, plop. These are the sounds that I have heard on the roof and all around the house for the past two days. It has rained consistently, even during the night. For me, it is pure nostalgia. Being from England, I am used to puddles, drips, drops, and splashes. As a child, I played in the rain, went to school in the rain, watched the rain from steamed-up windows, and even built forts in the rain. English kids don't let a little water get in the way of their fun. Mind you, Seattle gets much more rainfall than England. My Sister-in-law who lives there, told me that, in the Winter, they can get a whole month of non-stop rain. Now that might be too much even by english standards! It certainly is a transformation for our valley that would be totally dry were it not for irrigation. The low clouds, dull light, and soft sounds of the droplets falling everywhere, together create a story-like setting. It's time to get cozy on the sofa with the children, share cookies and drink hot chocolate, and read good books all afternoon. Grammar notes. 'I won't let a little ....... get in the way of .............' examples: I won't let a little illness get in the way of my plans; He didn't let a little mistake get in the way of his career etc. 'Were it not for....' examples: Were it not for the fire-fighters, I would have lost my house OR I would have lost my house, were it not for the fire-fighters.
