Keegan & Craig rush the review of the drab, damp draw at Elland Road as we drew 0-0 with Leeds United. The main talking point is the closure of the Summer transfer window as we look to land another striker to assist our new record signing Nick Woltemade. The two names that keep popping up are Yoane Wissa of Brentford and Wolverhampton Wanderers no.9 Jorgen Strand Larsen. Will either player make there way to Tyneside before the window slams shut and if they do will that open the door for Isak to complete his move to Liverpool?----------------------⚫️ https://toonunder.com⚪️ Find us on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/@ToonUnderPodcast⚫️ Twitter @ToonUnderPod⚪️ Apple Music and Spotify search Toon Under Podcast

Liverpool will travel to St. James' Park to round out Matchweek Two in the Premier League, and in another time it might merely be a rematch of last season's League Cup final, or just a meeting of two major institutions of English football who've never particularly liked each other. But this one has a different kind of electrical charge, because the defending champion Reds are trying to pry Newcastle's star striker, Alexander Isak, out of a black-and-white jersey. The forward is agitating for the move, and the Magpie faithful are not happy about any of it. The Swede isn't likely to feature, but he'll be looming over it all, and it's sure to be a tumultuous atmosphere on Tyneside. That's just a small part of what we got into with this week's guest: Clive Tyldesley, the legendary commentator for CBS Sports and Paramount+ who's been calling the biggest games in European football for decades. Along the way, he's seen a whole lot, and his vast experience and the wisdom thereof is now pouring into a new project: his blog here on Substack, where he weighs in on football's current affairs with wit and insight. He joins the show to talk Isak, Liverpool, the Club World Cup, why Sergio Busquets is the greatest walking footballer ever, and the state of the game he loves. A bombshell statement from Alexander Isak has rocked Newcastle United, with the star striker publicly demanding a move away from St. James' Park. But the club is having none of it.In a dramatic turn of events during the peak of the 2025 summer transfer window, Isak took to Instagram to release a statement outlining his desire for a new challenge. The football world was stunned, but Newcastle United's response was even more shocking. The club has hit back, and hit back HARD, releasing their own powerful statement that labels Isak's claims as "false" and makes it crystal clear that their star striker will not be sold.In this video, we break down the entire saga:
As we stare down the barrel of a brand new season, Dotun, Andy and Lars are back to answer some of your continental queries! Newcastle are finally active with the signing of AC Milan's Malick Thiaw, but is this a win-win for both clubs? Or are Newcastle still licking their wounds from some troubled times in the transfer market? The guys debate that - plus - can Porto stand up to the behemoths of Sporting and Benfica after a crucial summer of signings? How will 'hidden gem' Evann Guessand perform at Aston Villa? And why is the nation of Scotland such a hotspot for Italian teams to pick up young prospects? Also, we tempt Lars away from the fjord as he can't help but recommend a blockbuster Ligue 1 clash for his game of the week!**Get 15% off annual subscriptions to our Patreon until the end of August! A special episode from the Football Daily archives when in 2019 Rafa Benitez joined Guillem Balague to talk Istanbul, Tyneside & Madrid. [This is a re-versioned episode from the Football Daily archive. It was first published on the 25th April 2019]
Isak bid, striker shortlist, superb Seung-soo & transfer panic! This week, Ed and Olly react to what's becoming an increasingly concerning summer on Tyneside. We kick things off with the latest on the Isak situation — could Newcastle really lose their star striker, and what's the truth behind the growing noise? With Benjamin Sesko now likely heading to Man Utd, striker targets like Wissa, Muniz and Larsen are being linked — but are any of them good enough, and why are we still scrambling for signings in early August? There's finally some positive news as Aaron Ramsdale edges closer to a move, but the squad remains worryingly short with a centre-back and midfielder still badly needed. We discuss how this window is threatening to turn disastrous unless key gaps are addressed — fast.We also reflect on the 1-0 defeat to the K-League XI and provide injury updates on Willock, Botman and Hall, as Cordero heads out on loan. With just three pre-season games left and new leadership expected in the boardroom, time is running out to fix this.Plus, we answer your Twitter questions and reveal the results of our poll of the week.
Benjamin Sesko has reportedly decided he wants to move to Manchester United, a decision sue to instigate swift revisionist pieces on Tyneside, and Jadon Sancho may be willing to take a pay cut in order to finally leave Old Trafford. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

What a mess! - Another transfer blow, Celtic review, Isak, Howe and what next?Ed and Olly are back to unpack a busy — and at times frustrating — week on Tyneside. We kick off with a look at the 4-0 friendly defeat to Celtic. No need to panic, but it certainly wasn't pretty. We go through the winners and losers from the game, react to Eddie Howe's post-match quotes, and discuss what (if anything) it told us about where this squad currently stands. There's a big update on transfers too, and it's not the most uplifting chat. We cover the stalled striker search, missing out on James Trafford, the latest links to Yoane Wissa and a surprise new name that's emerged. Questions need to be asked about the state of our window so far... and we don't hold back.Elsewhere, we react to the results of our latest Twitter poll, answer your questions, and pay tribute to Sean Longstaff after his move to Leeds. A big move for a local lad who gave us everything.Plus, with the team now heading to Korea, we look ahead to what could be a defining few weeks for the club off the pitch.--------------Follow us on Twitter/X @nufcblogcastPlease consider giving us a good review if you enjoy what you hear!See all our episodes here - https://shows.acast.com/nufcblogcast Hosted on Acast. Manchester United's season is all but over domestically, with the Red Devils out of contention for European qualification and set for a bottom-half finish. However, Ruben Amorim's side are still involved in the Europa League, drawing the first leg of their quarter-final tie in Lyon on Thursday, but with the return match to come at Old Trafford next midweek, this trip to Tyneside could act as little more than a distraction. For this episode we're joined by veteran music scribe Phil Sutcliffe to discuss his years on Sounds, Q and MOJO. We start by hearing about our guest's Beatles-obsessed adolescence in the North London suburb of Barnet, then follow him up to Manchester University and his subsequent apprenticeship on the Newcastle Evening Chronicle. Phil explains how he got his foot in the door at Sounds in 1974, initially reviewing gigs on Tyneside before moving back to London to become one of the weekly magazine's key '70s writers. We discuss the paper's transition from Gentle Giant and Back Street Crawler to the Damned and the Sex Pistols — and to the interviews Phil did with County Durham punks Penetration and beloved Salford bard John Cooper Clarke. From JCC's visit to the Oxford Poetry Festival in 1980, we turn our attention to the week's featured act — politicised post-punks Gang of Four — and thence to the more controversially reactionary Eric Clapton. Clips from John Hutchinson's 1981 audio interview with the guitar "God" prompt conversation about his musical evolution and the infamous 1976 outburst that inspired the launch of Rock Against Racism. After Mark quotes from newly-added library pieces about Joe Harriott (1964), Miles Davis (1969) and Al Green (1973), Jasper takes us out with his thoughts on articles about Courtney Love (1991), Snoop Dogg (2003) and Cardi B (2019). Please note that this episode was recorded before we learned of the very sad passings of former Gang Of Four bassist Dave Allen and Malian superstar Amadou Bagayoko — along with Phil Sutcliffe's fellow Sounds contributor Sandy Robertson. Many thanks to special guest Phil Sutcliffe. Pieces discussed: The Beatles: I Was A Beatlemaniac, Penetration: Anarchy In County Durham, The Bard Of Beasley Street At The Seat Of Learning, Gang of Four: Dialectics Meet Disco, Gang Of Four: The Revolution Lightens Up, Andy Gill meets Andy Gill, Eric Clapton audio, Eric Clapton: Out of the Darkness, Joe Harriott: Jazz Abstractionist, Miles Davis: In a Silent Way, Hole: Calling the Tune, Snoop Dogg and Welcome to the Cardi Party.

It's time for The Truth!Today, Sam and Dougie are looking at Alexander Isak, who is hot property right now after another stellar campaign with Newcastle United, which culminated in him firing them to Carabao Cup glory at Wembley on Sunday against Liverpool. Newcastle are absolutely adamant that their Swedish superstar is going nowhere - and so they should be - but that hasn't stopped the rumour mill going into overdrive about clubs interested in prying him away from Tyneside this summer. So we dig into the numbers, take a look at Newcastle's financial position, examine the words of the people in the know about their business model, and try to work out whether this is bluster or something more concrete. We also explore possible destinations for if Newcastle decided that they were going to cash in on their most profitable asset, talking about how Isak would fit at both Liverpool and Arsenal - who are both reported to be very interested - and some alternate options on the continent as well. So, will Alexander Isak continue to spearhead the Geordie renaissance as they work their way up the table? Or will his value, a big offer, and a desire to build out the squad mean that he will be playing football elsewhere next year? Well, The Truth is somewhere in the middle... And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?
