Word of mouth is the absolute best way to support any creative endeavor. Spring is a good time to think about what we plant — literally and figuratively. The Celtic lands we love were shaped by people who understood that the earth gives back what you put into it. This week's tip is simple. Go native. If you're planting anything this spring — flowers, shrubs, anything — choose native plants. They support local pollinators, use less water, and need far less maintenance. One trip to a native plant nursery can do more good than you'd expect. Walk outside. Pick up one piece of trash. Plant something that belongs. The same spirit that carries Celtic music forward, community, resilience, love of the land, is the same spirit that keeps this planet alive. Let's carry that forward. Tim Cannon emailed: "Marc, Thanks for doing what you do, and for doing for so long! Please bear with me... I'm old enough to remember the days when stereo's would hold multiple CD's and there was a setting to shuffle between the CD's. Do you know of an App that does something like this? I imagine that I would store my albums on my device and in the app choose which ones are available for the shuffle. I use pandora and spotify, but would prefer something that better supports the artists." Jeffrey Alexander messaged on Facebook: "Is the iPhone app dead?? If so what is the best way to listen now?" I replied: Patreon app. I don't know if you're a subscriber, but it works great for this app. And gets you involved with the community. It works well even if you just follow the show there. Overcast. Tho I've been listening to a lot more shows on Patreon. This is my favorite Podcatcher. It's iPhone only. Has cool features if you're not listening to music apps. Apple Podcasts. Still a good podcatcher. Daniel Faigin replied to the comments in #748: "I just wanted to applaud what you said to the fellow who made the "libtard" comment in Ep 748. Folk music and celtic music has always spoken truth to power, and our current leadership needs to hear the truth. This listener supports what you said. You might lose some listeners, but hopefully you will gain a lot more from the folkies and celtic music fans that agree with you. If there had been a one - time donation button on the site or the patreon, I would have used it. Instead, I'll just continue to support the great artists you find." He followed up with this short email: "When I shared what you said with my wife, she said: "You've been listening long enough". So I signed up at the lowest level - - less for the perks, and more to support your effort." Thank you Daniel. Yes. I definitely lost followers for my political shows these past couple months. And you are right, there is outrage from the continued injustices by the current administration. So much so that the NO KINGS protests continue to peacefully grow. There are three ways that we can make true change, especially with a government that is complicit in supporting the illegal actions of our president. Vote them out. Make your voice heard in November. Support small, local indie businesses. It's always good to support your local community. But most of these businesses not only need your support more than some giant corporation, but they also aren't supporting a government actively breaking laws and hurting people. Speak up. Publicly. At rallies and protests. Online. And especially by contacting your representatives. It feels futile. But it's not. Your voice matters. You also mentioned making a one - time donation. I don't have a regular way of sharing the URL, but if you go to https://bestcelticmusic.net/donate/ , then you make a one - off donation. But your regular support on Patreon means everything. So thank you!

Make some room Unlimited Leaguers, it looks like we have a new team of heroes out there to help. The Ultimen are out in the world helping to save the day. But is there more to their story? Wind Dragon, Long Shadow, Juice, Downpour, and Shifter are young heroes managed by businessman and scientist Maxwell Lord. However, they are really a part of project Cadmus and under the control of Amanda Waller. The Ultimen are doing their own thing, and their agenda does not line up with the League all the time. Long Shadow wants to join the League, but the others are hesitant. Unfortunately they find out they are suffering cellular degeneration and don't have long to live. They are clones and Waller orders the backups ready to go. But Long Shadow overhears and the team plans a breakout. But Waller has already cleared the place out and there are no answers.

KSL Meteorologist Matt Johnson joins the show to talk about this weekend's downpour that left many Wasatch Front residents swimming.
So, knowing he had received the double portion… he took up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and went and stood by the bank of the Jordan. Then (in picking up the mantle…) he struck the water, and it was divided this way and that; and Elisha crossed over. —2 Kings 2:13-14, ESV (Abbreviated)
A new report into the health of waterways in National Parks in England and Wales claims that they aren't being properly protected from agricultural and sewage pollution. The research, from the Campaign for National Parks and Rivers Trust, has found that almost sixty percent of rivers and lakes in these areas are failing to meet the legal standard for 'good ecological status'.Whether it's doctors and dentists or banks and buses, services in the countryside are often harder for residents to access. According to the Rural Services Network, local authorities in rural areas get 40 percent less funding than their counterparts, and rural residents pay 20 percent more council tax. We hear from their Chief Executive Kerry Booth. This week, the Environment Agency announced that drought conditions are likely to continue into Autumn, with five areas of England remaining in drought status. With many of us seeing torrential rain over the past week, the news may come as a surprise. We speak to two farmers in different parts of the country - the traditionally wet West and the dry East, to hear about the impact of the weather this summer - and this week - on their businesses. Presented by Charlotte Smith and produced by Jo Peacey. Farming Today This Week is a BBC Audio Bristol Production.
The Environment Agency announced this week that drought is likely to extend into the autumn for some areas. But September is making up for August's lack of rain and, where there have been heavy downpours, farmers are starting to hope for a little respite. Charlotte Smith talks to two dairy farmers: one in the dry East of England the other in the (usually) damp West about the swing from heatwave to showers. An organised crime gang has been jailed for machinery and vehicle thefts from farms, worth millions of pounds. Seven men were jailed for a total of twenty five years after pleading guilty at Shrewsbury Crown Court on Monday. We hear from the detective in charge of the investigation. And we continue our look at rural services, with buses.Presenter: Charlotte Smith Producer: Sarah Swadling

Greg Young, co-host of the Bowery Boys podcast, discusses the history of the Delacorte Theater, and how the Free Shakespeare in the Park program first began with an unlikely friendship between founder Joe Papp and New York power broker Robert Moses. Plus, listeners share their memories of seeing shows at the old Delacorte.
Farmers are having to cope with too much water, or too little, more and more often due to the effects of climate change. This week Charlotte Smith explores how farmers can strike a balance on their land, with competing pressures for water including crops, homes, and wildlife. And, campaigners against Government plans to reintroduce Inheritance Tax on farms worth over £1 million found an unlikely ally in President Trump this week. But with the Government showing no sign of changing course, how feasible is a backbench rebellion on which farm lobby groups are now pinning their hopes?Presenter: Charlotte Smith Producer: Sarah Swadling

Social movements – and the protests they give rise to – have happened on American soil since before the country's establishment as an independent nation. On Dec. 16, 1773, American colonists demonstrated their dissatisfaction with British tax policies by dressing in disguise and dumping 342 chests – around 92,000 pounds – of valuable tea into Boston Harbor. Originally known as “the Destruction of the Tea,” the event was later nicknamed “the Boston Tea Party.” In this century, we've seen part of that moniker repurposed by the tea party movement, a group interested in lower taxes and decreased government spending who staged protests in over 750 U.S. cities on April 15, 2009 – Tax Day. Social injustices, environmental issues and political concerns are just a few of myriad reasons people have organized protests over the course of history. David S. Meyer, UC Irvine professor of sociology, political science, and urban planning and public policy, is one of the nation's top scholars on social movements. In this episode of The UC Irvine Podcast, Meyer leans on years of study to put today's realities into historical perspective, analyze the current state of polarization and share what he's learned about how action can spark change. “Downpour,” the music for this episode, was provided by Patiño via the audio library in YouTube Studio.

This time around, we have a bit of a different format, featuring the book that started it all for me, The 4-Hour Workweek. Readers and listeners often ask me what I would change or update, but an equally interesting question is: what wouldn't I change? What stands the test of time and hasn't lost any potency? This episode features one of the most important chapters from the audiobook of The 4-Hour Workweek. It includes tools and frameworks that I use to this day, including Pareto's Law and Parkinson's Law. The chapter is narrated by the great voice actor Ray Porter. If you are interested in checking out the rest of the audiobook, which is produced and copyrighted by Blackstone Publishing, you can find it on Audible, Apple, Google, Spotify, Downpour.com, or wherever you find your favorite audiobooks.Sponsors:ExpressVPN high-speed, secure, and anonymous VPN service: https://www.expressvpn.com/tim (get 3 or 4 months free on their annual plans) Momentous high-quality supplements: https://livemomentous.com/tim (code TIM for 20% off)Helix Sleep premium mattresses: https://HelixSleep.com/Tim (Between 20% and 27% off all mattress orders and two free pillows)*For show notes and past guests on The Tim Ferriss Show, please visit tim.blog/podcast.For deals from sponsors of The Tim Ferriss Show, please visit tim.blog/podcast-sponsorsSign up for Tim's email newsletter (5-Bullet Friday) at tim.blog/friday.For transcripts of episodes, go to tim.blog/transcripts.Discover Tim's books: tim.blog/books.Follow Tim:Twitter: twitter.com/tferriss Instagram: instagram.com/timferrissYouTube: youtube.com/timferrissFacebook: facebook.com/timferriss LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/timferrissPast guests on The Tim Ferriss Show include Jerry Seinfeld, Hugh Jackman, Dr. Jane Goodall, LeBron James, Kevin Hart, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Jamie Foxx, Matthew McConaughey, Esther Perel, Elizabeth Gilbert, Terry Crews, Sia, Yuval Noah Harari, Malcolm Gladwell, Madeleine Albright, Cheryl Strayed, Jim Collins, Mary Karr, Maria Popova, Sam Harris, Michael Phelps, Bob Iger, Edward Norton, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Neil Strauss, Ken Burns, Maria Sharapova, Marc Andreessen, Neil Gaiman, Neil de Grasse Tyson, Jocko Willink, Daniel Ek, Kelly Slater, Dr. Peter Attia, Seth Godin, Howard Marks, Dr. Brené Brown, Eric Schmidt, Michael Lewis, Joe Gebbia, Michael Pollan, Dr. Jordan Peterson, Vince Vaughn, Brian Koppelman, Ramit Sethi, Dax Shepard, Tony Robbins, Jim Dethmer, Dan Harris, Ray Dalio, Naval Ravikant, Vitalik Buterin, Elizabeth Lesser, Amanda Palmer, Katie Haun, Sir Richard Branson, Chuck Palahniuk, Arianna Huffington, Reid Hoffman, Bill Burr, Whitney Cummings, Rick Rubin, Dr. Vivek Murthy, Darren Aronofsky, Margaret Atwood, Mark Zuckerberg, Peter Thiel, Dr. Gabor Maté, Anne Lamott, Sarah Silverman, Dr. Andrew Huberman, and many more.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
