When Jason reached out and asked me, retired and also dead crooner, Dean Martin, to say a few words about Stalag 17, I was confused, as I had nothin' to do with the picture, jack. I wasn't even in the service for very long, myself. Hernia, they told me. It was at that point that he got real hot and some words flew around and we settled things with a bottle of the good stuff. Eventually, I was able to sneak out after agreeing to write this. I'm nothing if not a man of my word. So, buddy-o, lemme set you straight: this is a heck of a picture. What ain't straight was Billy Holden's driving, which we saw to tragic effect. That ain't funny, that's just a fact, jack. So, watch it and listen to this podcast thing about it? I don't care. I did my part. I'm off to the ghost bar, baby. Next week: It's gonna get biblical! Questions? Comments? Suggestions? Dana and Tom with returning guest, Kieran B (Host of the Best Picture Cast), discuss the WW2 prison camp comedy, Stalag 17 (1953): written and directed by Billy Wilder, co-written with Edwin Blum, music by Franz Waxman, starring William Holden, Don Taylor, Otto Preminger, Robert Strauss, and Peter Graves.Plot Summary: "Stalag 17," directed by Billy Wilder, is a gripping and darkly comedic exploration of camaraderie and suspicion within a German prisoner of war camp during World War II. The film follows the lives of American POWs, whose unity is shattered when they suspect a traitor in their midst.Wilder skillfully blends tension and humor, weaving a narrative that keeps the audience guessing until the final reveal. The film's standout performance comes from William Holden as the cynical and resourceful J.J. Sefton, a character who encapsulates the moral ambiguity of survival in the face of adversity. "Stalag 17" is a masterclass in storytelling; balancing suspense, wit, and a poignant exploration of the human condition in the crucible of war.You can now follow us on Instagram, Twitter, or TikTok (@gmoatpodcast) or find our Facebook page at Greatest Movie of All-Time Podcast. For more on the episode, go to: https://www.ronnyduncanstudios.com/post/stalag-17-1953-ft-kieran-bFor the entire rankings list so far, go to:Full Graded List - Greatest Movies of All-Time Ronny Duncan Studios

No matter who you ask, James Buchanan is always, without a doubt, considered to be one of the worst presidents in United States history. This tends to happen when you are in the Oval Office and do nothing to try and stop the outbreak of a civil war. But why did someone so fit for the job, fail so hard? Robert Strauss is the author of “Worst. President. Ever.: James Buchanan, the POTUS Rating Game, and the Legacy of the Least of the Lesser Presidents.” He discusses Buchanan's presidency and what makes him the worst. Could our office, apartment and public buildings also be farms? In this programme, Ruth Alexander meets the pioneers of rooftop farming, turning concrete into green spaces where fruit and vegetables are grown. We find out about the logistics, the challenges, and whether it has the potential to feed city populations. In Barcelona, Spain, she meets Joan Carulla, who recently celebrated his 100th birthday. Joan has been tending his private rooftop vegetable garden for fifty years with the help of his son, Toni. They're joined by friend and fellow rooftop gardener, Robert Strauss. Ruth speaks to Kotchakorn Voraakhom, a landscape architect in Bangkok, Thailand. She designed a farm on the roof of a university in 2019, the largest in Asia at that time. And Mohamed Hage, co-founder and CEO of Lufa Farms in Montreal, Canada explains how they are farming rooftops on a commercial scale. To date the company has four rooftop greenhouses and an indoor farm, which produces enough food to feed about 2 per cent of the city's population. Presented by Ruth Alexander. Produced by Beatrice Pickup. (Image: Joan Carulla sat on a bench in his rooftop garden in Barcelona, Spain. Credit: BBC)
