Most of the world has 24 hours in a day, but Scott Kummer somehow seems to get 36 hours of work done 1 day. You may know him from his podcast Ten Junk Miles or from one of the races that he race directs with Ten Junk Miles Racing. His podcasts have helped me get through some long solo runs. He dives deeper than most podcasts with questions that his guests typically do not get asked. Scotty is a lawyer for a living and he said that helps with thinking of questions to dive below the surface with some of the guests. Sometimes they don't even get around to talking about running or their latest accomplishments. It was a pleasure getting the chance to pick his brain about his career in running. He has run some of the toughest winter endurance races around. He also is a big volunteer helping others in their quests to challenge themselves. He shared some expert tips on running in extreme cold weather and I tested out some of his methods just this last week and man was it a game changer! Hope you enjoy this episode!
Scott Kummer does a lot for our sport. Known for his Podcast & races, Ten Junk Miles, I really wanted to hear his thoughts on our sport, our community, and the current state of our races. In this live and unedited panel discussion, Jon is joined by three friends and fellow podcasters to debate whether Cher, icon that she is, belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In this episode I'm talking with Scott Kummer who, among a few other roles in the ultrarunning community, is the host of the popular Ten Junk Miles Podcast. If you're a longtime listener, you know this show is capable of going on streaks. Sometimes it focuses on the pro athletes, then it'll focus on the business side of the sport, and so on. Right now, I'm really into these conversations with fellow podcasters in the space. So if you enjoyed the episodes with Dylan Bowman, Corrine Malcolm, Jon Levitt, and Matt Chittim, I think you'll really enjoy this one too. Scotty and I get right into a few of the hot-button issues including the pros and cons of engaging with Running Twitter, handling praise and criticism as a public figure in the sport, issues with past and current running content, race coverage preferences, athlete sponsorship issues, UTMB, race directing preferences, and way more. Don't be intimidated by the 3+ hour length of this episode. No time is wasted - Scott is a great conversationalist.Sponsors:InsideTracker - go to (https://info.insidetracker.com/singletrack) to get 20% off your next order.Kodiak Cakes - use code Singletrack15 at checkout on their website (https://kodiakcakes.com/) to get 15% off your next orderGnarly Nutrition - use code Singletrack20 at checkout on their website (https://gognarly.com/) to get 20% off your next orderTimestamps:(0:55) - the pros and cons of Running Twitter(5:07) - handling praise and criticism as a public figure in ultrarunning(12:05) - Scotty's background in the sport (16:44) - issues with past, present running content (23:10) - why we started our podcasts, why people start running podcasts(30:22) - running podcast style, preferences(47:21) - podcasting as a profession, making money through the medium (62:47) - the bigger “why's” for doing podcasts (70:49) - UTMB debates, low-key events (77:08) - getting into race directing(99:28) - race coverage debates (117:20) - athlete-sponsor relationship debates (129:06) - guests we want to have on our shows (139:25) - more debate about types of stories to cover(144:07) - corruption, paying for guests and appearances (149:40) - the why for doing this, having an impact, dealing with criticism(155:00) - the podcast preparation, publishing process (168:15) - debates about coaching in our sport Links:Support Ten Junk Miles via PatreonThe Art of Trail Race DirectingWoodstock '99 DocumentarySupport the show

Scott is a podcaster, ultra marathon runner, attorney, and self-proclaimed seeker. We sat down to discuss how he ended up in his current roles in life and a lot about his life in the ultra-running world. Scott is someone I aspire to be like one day always seeking to get the most out of life as possible. If you need something to listen to as you work out this week I definitely think this is one of the best episodes I have recorded to date. I recommend following him on all channels. And since recording this episode I have enjoyed two more of his podcasts and I highly recommend following “Ten Junk Miles” as well.Ten Junk Miles: Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4yeVQnjkjPK20gPxGeP5tu?si=i-M0LdpRSDOeK-mqxYeKFwApple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ten-junk-miles/id977007408Instagram: @tenjunkmilesracing & @scottywk2 Website: https://www.tenjunkmiles.com/
Scott Kummer is a lawyer, an ultrarunner, a race director, and a podcast host, but maybe in reverse order? Scott was a fan who became a friend. We talk about running and sobriety and podcasting and getting molested as kids. Hear much much more of Scott at https://www.tenjunkmiles.com
Willem is someone that was recommended to me by previous guest Scott Kummer. Addiction has effected Willem not only thru himself but through other members of his family. Hear his story!
This week Scott Kummer and Holly Lindroth from Ten Junk Miles join Clint and Jack to chat. That's it, just chat--words, more words, some dirty words, a dash of running and a dash of beer. Special Episode Alert: This is a SWAPCAST between TJM and Bad Boy Running Podcast (the TJM of the UK). It features Scott Kummer, Holly Lindroth, Jody Raynsford and David Hellard. This is what happens when people from two podcasts get together randomly and chat. No plan. No agenda. With a common ground only of mediocrity. Please enjoy. Ten Junk Miles is one of my favourite podcasts so I was delighted to appear on their Meet The Nation series. The host Scott Kummer was gracious enough to allow me to use the interview on my own podcast feed. You hear about where I am and my story, my running history, some random trivia, and a desert island book/record/movie selection. I thank Scott for his time and generosity, and I hope you enjoy! Be an absolute hero and subscribe to my show, leave a review, and share! Thanks :) Get in touch with the show! If you are a fan of ultra running, and ultra running podcasts, then you already know my next guest. Scott Kummer is the founder and host of the legendary Ten Junk Miles Podcast. As a tribute to the TJM Podcast, we go long form in this episode. We go way off script and cover everything from politics, COVID-19, religion, philosophy, alcohol abuse and more more. Scott opens up and courageously tells us about some of the things he's dealt with on a personal level that make him the man he is today. It was an honor to get to know the man behind the mic. Much respect, Scott- talk soon. This week on the Run the Riot Podcast: The Host of the Ten Junk Miles Podcast - Scott Kummer! I totally enjoyed my conversation with Scott. I love his heart for the running community and his style in Podcasting. I learned a bunch from just talking to him. Great guy!
Did you know that there is another race along the Iditarod Trail? One week before the dogs take off, there is a human powered event. We talked with one of the racers that will do the event on foot.... Join us as we sit down and talk with the many people involved in the Iditarod Sled Dog Race. We will be interviewing mushers, volunteers, wives, parents, even an athlete who has biked the trail, and many more. Our show is broken down into segments; Who Inspires You? Q&A, and Musher Mount Rushmore. Sit back, relax, and learn about the Iditarod from the people who experience the race firsthand.
This is a podcast about a podcast. Hence the Russian nesting dolls reference. I got to watch the recording of my favorite running podcast, "Ten Junk Miles," and meet its host, Scott Kummer. He shared a little podcasting intel at the end of the evening. I tried not to fangirl. Inexplicably, I manage to work in a reference to my new favorite artist, Orville Peck, whom I also met a month ago. Peck has an incredible voice and his debut album, "Pony," is so listenable that I haven't yet tired of it. Anyway, so yeah, that's about it for this episode. Lots of fun. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thestubborntortoise/support

Scott Kummer of Ten Junk Miles joins the Michaels, but not to talk about running. Scott joins us to talk football - specifically Bears v Packers week 1. We walk through each teams' schedule, make (un)educated predictions, and sweeten the pot with a bet or two. Notice: this was recorded well before the Khalil Mack trade, but all of our predictions stay the same. There's just no Mack Talk. Enjoy!
The Michaels continue talking training and round out the NFL Championship weekend. Super Bowl 52 is set: Philly Philly vs. the New England Been-There-Done-That's. We're ecstatic to welcome on Scott Kummer to Chiowa. Scott is an ultra-running, podcasting, music-loving attorney. Scott has finished more ultras than he can count. The same can be said about his DNFS. The three talk life, running, pushing through the shit in life and embracing the joys of it. It's a unique talk for Chiowa, and hopefully one of many with Scott and other people like him. Scott is the host of Ten Junk Miles; a podcast for everyday runners, by everyday runners.
