It's easy to believe that peace is waiting on the other side of better circumstances. A breakthrough. A solution. A different season. But the deepest peace comes from something else entirely. In this Staff Talk, Francis shares what God has been reminding him about contentment, suffering, mission, and the presence of God. He explores what it looks like to be so anchored in God that circumstances no longer have the final say. The result isn't a trouble-free life. It's something better - a peace that holds steady and the confidence to follow Jesus wherever He leads.
In John chapter 6 a little boy's lunch is transformed into one of Jesus' most famous miracles (the feeding of the 5,000). In today's edition of “On Our Side,” pastor Dan reminds us that when we need a miracle, we only have to focus on the who, not the how! -- GIVE: Visit www.connectcalgary.ca/give to help share #LifeOverflowing across Canada.

God Gives a Jesus Follower's Life Meaning and Purpose, Satisfies their Hunger to Know Their Life's Purpose, and Forgives Their Sins MESSAGE SUMMARY: As Jesus tells us in John 15:12-14, that you, as His follower, are His “friend: “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends.". God became flesh, and He dwelt among us. God became human to draw you into a personal relationship with Him. In John 1:14, the Apostle John identifies Jesus as the “Son of the Father”: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.". God alone can satisfy the meaning and purpose of your life. God alone can satisfy your hunger to know your life's meaning. Most importantly, God alone can give you forgiveness of your sins as Paul tells us in Colossians 2:13-14: “And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.". Jesus' life, miracles, death, and His Resurrection are invitations to a life-long personal relationship with God, the Creator of the Universe. Our personal relationship with God is through His gift, to Jesus Followers, of the Holy Spirit. TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, help me to grab hold of you today. I need you. Set me free to begin reorienting my life around you, and you alone. Help me to pay attention to and honor how you have uniquely made me. Thank you for the gift of rest. In Jesus' name, amen. In Your Personal Relationship with Jesus, Fast and Feast with Jesus to Drink Heartily of His Word as Jesus Satisfies and Nourishes You MESSAGE SUMMARY: Most of the time when you are fasting, you are thinking about what you must give up in the fast. Rather, in your fasting, than focusing on “going without” you should think of fasting as a call by Jesus to come to Him and feast with Him. Paul's example for us, in Acts 14:22-23, occurs after he had been stoned and left for dead after preaching the Gospel in Antioch. Rather than leaving the field of discipleship in fear, Paul returned the next day to preach the Gospel and: “strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God. And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, with prayer and fasting they committed them to the Lord in whom they had believed.". In your feast with Jesus, you can drink heartily of His Word to let Jesus satisfy and nourish you. TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, help me to grab hold of you today. I need you. The Shepherd Satisfies (Psalm 23 Part 3) by Josiah Graves
Join us as we continue in our message series called“Jesus // According to Matthew, where we're going to walk through the Gospel of Matthew.
The Preacher watches the money pile up and asks the obvious question nobody wants to hear: what exactly did it get you? Riches hoarded bring anxiety, riches lost leave nothing to pass on, and the man who has everything still can't stop wanting more. Qoheleth traces the grotesque math of greed: the more you earn, the more mouths show up to eat it, and the only dividend is watching other people spend your wealth. Even the stillborn child, he says, has more rest than the rich man who never learns to enjoy what God actually gave him. The Rev. George Murdaugh, pastor emeritus, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Ecclesiastes 5:8–6:9. What does a man gain from all his toil under the sun? Solomon asked that question three thousand years ago, and it still cuts. Ecclesiastes is the Bible's most unflinching book about work, wealth, wisdom, and the ache nothing in this life can fill. It is also one of the most pastoral, because the Preacher tells the truth about death, time, and meaning without leaving the reader in despair. Pastor Booe and guest pastors from across the Synod study it verse by verse, following Solomon's argument to where it finally lands: fear God and keep His commandments. Thy Strong Word, hosted by Rev. Dr. Phil Booe, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church of Luverne, MN, reveals the light of our salvation in Christ through study of God's Word, breaking our darkness with His redeeming light. Each weekday, two pastors fix our eyes on Jesus by considering Holy Scripture, verse by verse, in order to be strengthened in the Word and be equipped to faithfully serve in our daily vocations. People are searching for all kinds of ways to fulfill their desires, but only God satisfies our greatest desire which is a friendship with Him through the Lord Jesus Christ.
Send us Fan MailIn commemoration of Easter I delve deep into the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I weave in several aviation metaphors because that's what I do. The opening aviation sequence mirrors what many of us feel right now: moral fog, loud voices redefining truth, and the temptation to fly by emotion alone. So we center on the one doctrine that stabilizes everything, especially at Easter: the Atonement of Jesus Christ. We go far past a surface-level explanation and ask the hard questions straight out: Why was suffering required? Why couldn't God simply forgive? Why did Christ have to descend below all things? From the premortal council and the eternal necessity of agency, we trace the problem created by real choice: we inevitably sin, we violate eternal law, and justice demands consequences. If mercy could erase justice, the moral order of the universe would collapse and “God would cease to be God” in the sense that divine authority depends on perfect adherence to law. That's where the Savior's mediation becomes not symbolic but necessary. We walk through Gethsemane and the meaning of Christ voluntarily paying the price so justice is satisfied and mercy can operate. The Atonement demonstrates forever that God remains perfectly just and perfectly merciful, and then brings that cosmic doctrine down to something intensely personal: repentance, healing, enabling power, and the Resurrection's promise that death is conquered for all. If this reframes how you see justice, mercy, and your own path back to God, subscribe, share the episode with someone you love, and leave a five-star review so more people can find it. You've lived this moment. The craving hits, specific and insistent, and no matter what you do it just gets louder. So you give in. You eat it. And then... nothing. Flatness. No satisfaction. Just the quiet, maddening question: why did I even want that? That gap between the intensity of the craving and the emptiness of the payoff is not a willpower failure. It's not a character flaw. It's neuroscience. And once you understand what's actually happening, cravings will never have the same power over you again. In this episode, Rick breaks down the wanting vs. liking split — two completely separate brain systems that the diet industry has never told you about. Merlin Miller returns to the study of the Gospel of Mark with this 29th sermon taken from Mark 8:1-10 titled Jesus satisfies. This is the second account of Jesus miraculously feeding a large crowd of food with only a few loaves and fishes. While the earlier emphasis was put on how the disciples found strength to serve, this emphasis is on Jesus, and how He satisfies our deepest need.
While our souls naturally thirst and hunger for fulfillment, only God provides true and lasting satisfaction. By beginning each prayer and request with thanksgiving, we open ourselves to receive God’s good gifts and experience the fullness He offers. This devotional emphasizes that recognizing God’s provision transforms how we perceive and receive His blessings, turning gratitude into soul-deep contentment. Highlights Human Need is Normal: Every person experiences longing, desire, and hunger for fulfillment. God Fills Us: Psalm 107:9 reminds us that God satisfies our deepest needs with good things. Power of Thanksgiving: Philippians 4:6 shows that gratitude before requests enhances God’s provision. Mindful Acknowledgment: Giving thanks first helps us notice and accept the blessings God already provides. Spiritual Satisfaction: Gratitude transforms our hearts, producing joy and lasting contentment. Intersecting Faith & Life We are designed for dependence on God, not on circumstances, people, or worldly comforts. By beginning each day in gratitude and offering thanks before presenting needs, we position ourselves to experience God’s deep satisfaction. Our hearts align with His generosity, and our souls find the fullness they crave. This episode is sponsored by Trinity Debt Management. If you are struggling with debt call Trinity today. But I really shouldn’t. Because the truth is, every single soul is thirsty for something. Hungry for happiness. Starving for satisfaction and gratification. We have needs, longings, and deep desires. We seek and search for fulfillment. And I don’t know about you, but too often I look to the world for fill. I lean on and depend on my circumstances and the people around me. I look to comforts, pleasures, and indulgences to provide relief from the hard and the hurt. Freedom from the challenges, the struggles, the obstacles, the busyness, all the expectations. On and on. Do you feel a deep need? Or lots of them? Maybe you desire relief from fear. Or have a longing for peace that’s swelling in your soul. Maybe you are looking for answers or guidance. You’re lonely and praying for encouragement, connection, and community. The truth is, we all have so much need. Nonstop. Even those who don’t always notice or who aren’t aware. And need isn’t necessarily bad. God made us for dependence. But not for dependence on anything or anyone else other than him. Psalm 107:9 says, he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. That “he” is God. It is the Lord who satisfies and fills us. And it says, with good things. Not just any random or empty thing, but good things. The question is, will we let him? The preceding verse proclaims. Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind. And I wonder if this upfront proclamation is on purpose. Reminding us to give thanks to the Lord first for the blessings he provides—his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds. I believe it’s intentional. I also believe that if we focused more on giving thanks to God before presenting our needs and seeming lack to him, we would see more of his provision and blessings. This same reminder is referenced in a verse you likely know. In Philippians 4:6, it states, in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God. It’s the thanksgiving we need to remember. To give thanks to God every time we bring a need before him, any moment we lift up a concern, whenever we present any request to the Lord. It is our thanksgiving that can have an immense impact on how we perceive and receive the gifts of God. Do we notice and accept the satisfaction and fullness he offers? The problem is, I know I forget to do this all too often. Do you? Intersecting Faith & Life: Let us acknowledge our need right now. But let us begin by giving thanks to God, the giver of all good things, before we approach him with all that we are hungry and thirsty for. Let us acknowledge that he is already fulfilling our deepest desires; that he is supplying everything we really need. And let us remember to begin each day in this way. Giving thanks to him and praising him. Because he indeed does fill our lives with good things. He indeed does give gratification and swelling satisfaction for our longing souls when we offer, over and over, our gratitude and thanks to him. https://newsongpeople.com/messages/the-god-who-satisfiesWhy did God rain bread from heaven in the wilderness—and what does it have to do with Jesus? In Exodus 16, God rains bread from heaven to feed His people in the wilderness—but the manna was never just about bread. It was teaching Israel to trust Him one day at a time. In John 6, Jesus reveals that He is the true Bread from Heaven, the One who satisfies our deepest hunger.

Dr Kenneth Bruce So That You May Believe Living Water And The Living Mission: The God Who Satisfies Us And Sends Us John 4:1-42
This sermon explores Jesus' compassionate ministry to the broken and needy as depicted in Matthew 15. The message emphasizes that genuine healing begins when we lay our burdens at Jesus' feet and surrender what we have into His hands. Jesus doesn't just manage symptoms—He completely heals. The sermon challenges believers to remember past miracles during present crises and trust that God knows our needs before we even ask. This compassionate ministry extends to all people, Jew and Gentile alike, demonstrating that Jesus is the Savior of the world who satisfies the deepest longings of the soul.

Today's last encore episode is a real throw back—all the way back to episode 1! This top fan favorite is the first conversation on our podcast. The series is Encountering Jesus Personally, and the episode is He Satisfies the Deeper Longing. We all hunger, but quick solutions and overnight fixes are not going to help or satisfy. The remedy we need, the only One who satisfies, is Jesus, the Bread of Life. Truly, this is a conversation that will never grow old. This is a special Encore Episode originally released in January 2024. In this week's episode, Lisa and Laura dive into the Gospel of John, focusing on the famous I AM statement, “I am the bread of life.” Each time we find Jesus saying, “I am,” He is giving us a glimpse into what He's like. He's revealing something about His character. If you're struggling to find purpose and meaning or are weary from disappointment or heartache, listen and be encouraged as Lisa and Laura unpack today's Scripture and apply it to our daily lives. Open your Heart to our key Scripture. John 6:35: Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst.” Open your Bible to other Scriptures referenced in this episode. Exodus 3:14: God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” John 6:15: Perceiving then that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, Jesus withdrew again to the hills by himself. John 6:26–27: And when Jesus encountered the crowd He said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of man will give to you.” John 6:48–51: He said, “I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that a man may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if anyone eats of this bread he will live for ever, and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh.” John 6:52–56: The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.” Invite Him in with this episode's questions for reflection. We spend our lives chasing things that promise happiness—but never truly fill us.In John 6, Jesus challenges a crowd seeking another miracle meal and makes one of his most radical claims: “I am the bread of life.” Instead of offering temporary solutions, Jesus invites us to receive him as our daily sustenance and deepest satisfaction. In this message, Ted Coniaris unpacks how we often pursue careers, relationships, approval, and distractions as our version of “bread,” only to discover they eventually spoil. Jesus confronts that cycle and calls us to a deeper, costly discipleship—one marked not by admiration, but by participation in his life. This episode explores:Why temporary fulfillment leaves us spiritually hungryThe difference between consuming spiritual benefits and truly following JesusWhat it means to “feed on” Christ in everyday lifeThe honest faith of Peter: “Where else would we go?”If you've ever felt restless, unsatisfied, or spiritually empty despite outward success, this message is an invitation to stop running and finally receive the living Bread that satisfies forever.

Why do we seek beauty and greatness? In this episode of Light + Truth, John Piper shows from 2 Thessalonians 1:9–10 that we were made to marvel at Christ's infinite glory.
We live in a culture that constantly craves applause, where even sincere acts of faith can quietly become performances aimed at earning approval. Ray, E.Z., Mark, and Oscar remind believers that this desire for recognition is deeply rooted in idolatry and must be surrendered to God. The guys encourage Christians to examine their motives, especially in ministry, and to serve out of love rather than a desire for recognition. Preaching should be centered on God's Word, not on entertainment or showmanship. While humor and illustrations can be helpful, they should never distract from the truth or shift the focus away from Christ. The rise of social media exacerbates this struggle, training hearts to equate value with attention; yet, the call of the gospel is to live for God's glory alone. True freedom comes through the cross, where believers are already entirely accepted by God. Rooted in that security, we can walk humbly, pray continually, and serve faithfully, knowing that obedience and love—not applause—are the marks of a life that pleases Him.Send us a textThanks for listening!
