1/9/21 Today on the pod, I sit down with a fellow ski instructor at the resort, Jack Martin. Last week, we took our PSIA Alpine Level 1 exam. Day one is Movement Analysis; Day 2 is Skiing; and Day 3 is Teaching. Since Jack sleeps in his car when he comes up for the weekend from Boulder, I let him crash at my place during the exam and we really got into it on this one. Jack is getting his Ph.D. in Programing Languages through the Computer Science department and comes up the pass during the weekend to teach little kids how to ski, not a bad side gig if you ask me.  On this episode, we drink Weihenstephaners as Jack describes his research in Programing Languages, the problem with our current political representation, avalanches, the extreme endurance races of Megavalanche and the Tour de France, and we answer the biggest question I've ever asked on this pod: What if LeBron James was a skier? Enjoy! https://www.instagram.com/codycast_101/

Since Jack's got married he's acting like Kerry Katona did to the rest of Atomic Kitten after she met Brian McFadden. As such there's no new podcast. Joking of course! But he is being annoying and we should be back very soon. In the meantime, why not see how far we've come? Here are some weak observations; poorly performed. Actually it's quite good. Actually, actually I was only half listening in case we said anything hateful whilst playing Age of Empires III. And for fact fans, the first time Tom swore on live radio. So there's that. After a brief sabbatical the 'Boys Are Back In Town' (that song wasn't played). Jack and Tom continue to battle with not using the name of the radio station they're broadcasting from and fill us in on what they've been up to during the week. Weddings and holidays are discussed and there's a brand new celebrity interview with Youtube star Alfie Deynes aka PointlessBlog. All it took was a private, in-home screening of The Silence of the Lambs to make Jack's girlfriend completely afraid of the dark, strangers, loading furniture into vans, and lotion all together. Since Jack's special lady friend has some pretty big gaps in her movie knowledge, Jack forced her to watch the horror classic over the weekend, but this morning on Alt 949 he needed to give her a few new things to be freaked out by, and that's where YOU came in. With a pack of tickets to the San Diego Zoo on the line, what would you come clean about being completely afraid of? We found out this morning on San Diego's Alternative.

No matter how you spell it, Hanukkah (or Chanukah) is referred to by some as the “Jewish version of Christmas” for both the timing and for being another festival of lights. It lasts for over a week and is filled with games, food, presents, and more. Since Jack grew up with a Jewish background, he shares some insight with Kev as they discuss the elements of the holiday.

A serial killer is described as an individual who murders 3 or more people over more than a month and with a significant break between them. Serial killers usually stick to the same Modus Operandi and typically have a similar victimology. Serial killers also have several different motives for committing the murders, from attention seeking to anger and potentially even financial gain. There are usually certain characteristics found in serial killers, which probably increases the probability of them becoming one. These characteristics can include mental illness, being abused, whether that be physically, mentally or sexually by a family member in their childhood, they were frequently bullied or isolated whilst they were growing up and they typically have a lower IQ and struggle to hold down a job. Since Jack the Ripper tormented the streets of London in 1888, it’s approximated that there have been 34 serial killers to date, however it’s proposed that that number is actually larger. Jack Senff is a singer-songwriter based out of Traverse City, Michigan. Jack has already had a wild ride through a number of genres and approaches to storytelling - especially as he’s transitioned from emo to post hardcore/skrams, and then into more contemporary indie jams - but now he’s truly on his own, using his own name, and releasing an incredibly stripped down release. Throughout his career, Jack has maintained his DIY ethics in touring, putting on gigs, and releasing his tunes - while continuing to amass and maintain a followership along the way.Since Jack and I met a couple years ago, we’ve sort of felt like kindred spirits - hitting it off right away and with a tenacity as if we’d known each other for years. So this conversation is a continuation of us learning more about each other as we discuss Jack’s musical history, masculinity, storytelling, and what it looks like to reinvent yourself and to live various lives through music. We hope you enjoy!MUSIC NOTE:- This week you got to hear tunes from the new Jack M. Jack Kos is a New Zealand angler who studied law at the University of Canterbury. Since Jack’s teens, he has been fixated on the allure of brown trout in the Southern Hemisphere. This fascination lead him to complete his bachelor’s thesis with a focus on the introduction of brown trout to New Zealand, which led him to a PhD thesis on the fishery and the role it has played over the last century. In this episode of Anchored, Jack and I discuss the man behind New Zealand’s famous brown trout, how he forever changed the ecosystem, and how the species adapted to thrive in its new home.
