On a rough morning for the Alt 949 family, and the San Diego music family, Jack took a few minutes to honor our friend Steve West, who we learned yesterday passed away at the age of 68. His enthusiasm for music was unmatched, his knowledge was unparalleled, and his lust for life was unequaled.

Anytime there is a crisis at hand, Jack knows to turn his eager eyes to Arnold Schwarzenegger and Cardi B. Okay, obviously that's not really the case, but as the entire world has gone topsy turvy with all this COVID-19 action, he at least finds it somewhat satisfying that celebrities are not immune to the problems facing regular Americans (and Austrians) everywhere. Armed with a tantalizing amount of audio, a pretty serviceable Schwarzenegger impression, and a positive outlook, this morning on Alt 949 he brought some insightful advice to the table, from some unusual sources. Regardless of where your mind immediately went, we assure you this is a safe-for-work (or safe-for-working-from-home) segment. As part of his tazer-enforced 'Coronavirus Free Hour' on a Commercial Free Monday, Jack found a morsel of news that simply had to be shared, if only for the excuse to make a series of mildly racy, rim shot worthy jokes. A woman in Virginia is petitioning the folks at the Guinness Book of Records to recognize what she feels is a world record worthy collection. What exactly does she feel she has more of than any other human on earth? Why is Jack peeing on himself? We unfortunately found out this morning on San Diego's Alternative.

After a few days of completely avoiding the outside world, yesterday Jack had to venture out to his neighborhood grocery store for a few items. As a guy who gets made fun of by his girlfriend about all the stuff he always has stocked up at home, this wasn't a hording trip, just a quick pop in for some perishable items like milk, cereal, and a loaf of bread. While not totally surprised to find the bread aisle obliterated, he was shocked when he heard a random sweaty man being the guy NOBODY should be in the midst of a crisis. In this very strange time in the world, there are a lot of people who think they know the answers everyone is actively searching for. While store shelves are being picked clean, toilet paper is at a premium, and people are trying to stay safe and healthy, there are those in the world who feel they already have the answer to curing the Coronavirus, and this morning on Alt 949, Jack found one of the strangest yet. What is the latest homeopathic remedy to keep you immune from COVID-19? How far would you be willing to go to stay healthy? Why is the studio filled with farm animals? Since you literally and figuratively can't escape it, this morning on Alt 949, Jack decided to create a Coronavirus-Free zone, at least for an hour. Knowing you're getting plenty of wall-to-wall coverage pretty much everywhere else you turn, he decided to create a sounding board and a safe space to vent about all the things bugging the people of San Diego, with the understanding that NONE of them would be COVID-19. Try to forget that whole double murder thing for a second, and in 2020 O.J. Simpson is just an embarrassing boomer dad trying to do social media in the age of the Coronavirus. In case you missed his latest nugget of viral gold, The Juice took to his Twitter page with some help from his daughter, to take a few stabs at levity. Armed with the audio, more cringey moments than a Paul Shore movie, and a set of 3-day passes to the Ohana Festival, Jack wanted to find out who the most embarrassing member of your family is, and the latest way they proved it. We all find ourselves in a pretty unusual situation with so much Coronavirus news, information, and MISinformation swirling around, that it isn't a shock that some people are acting unusually. Generally, Jack tries to stay pretty level headed about this type of thing, and outside of a little social distancing and some frequent hand washing, his life hasn't been too impacted. Until this week. Due entirely to the COVID-19 epidemic, on Monday night at the big Alt 949 show with Tame Impala, Jack did something he has literally never done before in the hundreds of concerts and festivals he's been fortunate enough to go to, and this morning the realization hit him like a ton of bricks. What did Jack do that would have been unthinkable only days or weeks before? He came clean this morning on San Diego's Alternative.

​Jack is a notoriously frugal guy. He never owns more than three pairs of shoes or two pairs of jeans at the same time. He doesn't have expensive tastes and prefers a $1 food truck fish taco to a prime rib. And he drove the same crappy 1998 Toyota Carolla for over almost two decades. When Jack uncharacteristically bought a new (albeit still used) car at the end of last year, he figured he would be done pouring money down the drain for a least a while. But he was wrong. Since November, Jack has suffered a trio of truly befuddling incidents with his car, and now he's scratching his head and footing the bill. If you're a single man and you don't think you... measure up to most dating sites, Jack had some good news this morning on Alt 949. In 2020 there are dating sites and apps for just about any niche, including farmers, seniors, clowns, sea captains, and probably any other proclivity under the sun, including those who have (or prefer) smaller 'equipment'. Yesssir, direct from the truth is stranger than fiction files, a dating site called DinkyOne.com boasts users can match with other members who don't care about the size of your... well, member. Straight from the site: "Anyone you date will be fully aware and you can avoid unnecessary pressure or anxiety". What does a two minute d*** joke sound like? A minor 4am freak out in the Alt 949 studio kitchen this morning lent itself to some quality content this morning on Alt 949. Having things that bug you about your job, your co-workers, or anything and everything involved with what you do for a living isn't a novel concept, but that doesn't mean we still can't stand when they flare up. This morning, Jack found the kitchen at work in the usual state of disarray with dirty dishes overflowing the sink, used silverware littering community spaces, and a pizza box with a single shriveled slice of pepperoni on the counter. Just because Alt 949's budget doesn't allow for Jack to have his own team of investigative reporters out on the streets like one of those fancy late night shows doesn't mean he can't borrow one from Jimmy Kimmel. Now that SXSW, Coachella, the new James Bond movie, Baby Yoda toys, Costco samples, and just about everything else good in our world has been canceled, delayed, or postponed due to the Coronavirus, you would think people have become relatively informed about the whole thing... right? ​Just because Jack bought a new car a few months ago, doesn't mean his predilection to hording has faded. Well, if you thought the Coronavirus wasn't going to impact your life, think again. This morning on Alt 949, after literally doing his best to downplay and avoid talking about the epidemic sweeping the globe like K-pop, he finally saw two ways his sheltered little life is being messed with. ​In addition to being National What-The-Hell-Is-Happening-What-Time-Is-It-Where-Am-I-Are-You-Kidding-Me Day due to Daylight Saving Time, it also happens to be National Barbie Day. The iconic doll was first released on this day in 1959, and considering everything else in the news was about the Coronavirus, Jack decided to spend a few minutes talking about the evolution of one of America's most recognizable ladies. Despite attempts at not getting swept up in all the hoopla surrounding the Coronavirus, this morning on Alt 949, Jack finally decided to lean into it. With the eyes of the entire globe fixed on every new piece of information or statistic about the virus, Jack wanted to use the impending pandemic as an opportunity to manifest some of his bucket list items. Jack is a huge fan of TWO TIME Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee David Crosby in bands like The Byrds, CSN, and CSNY (that's Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young for the kids), but he's equally a fan of his off-stage antics and the incredible life he's lead. One of the achievements that Jack is most in awe of, is the 78 year-old Crosby's claim to have rolled over 2.4 MILLION joints in his lifetime. This morning, while scrolling through Twitter, he happened upon the most bizarre impromptu Master Class of 2020, and he couldn't help tell you all about it. Jack knows what he likes, and pretty much sticks to that. When it comes to movies, TV shows, albums, restaurant orders, or even the collection of baseball caps he rocks, Jack pretty much just gets the same thing over and over again, and plans to do so until he dies. Having this pretty predictable predilection to certain things garners him plenty of grief from his friends, his family, and his girlfriend who all wish he would occasionally take a chance on something new. Sometimes you hear something passively, and you need to go back and give it your undivided attention to really understand what you're listening to. With all the stuff buzzing around globally about the Coronavirus, and hygiene in general, it seemed highly questionable, but Jack knows if it makes dollars, it makes sense. ​A trio of simple decisions is all that stands between the people of San Diego and winning some cool crap on Alt 949. At least, that's the case anytime Jack decides to subject us all to his favorite game, This or That. The rules are simple, Jack comes prepared with three sets of items, people, places, or things that each have a quantitative number attached to them, and asks you which is bigger, this or that? This morning Michelle from Oceanside was under the gun with a chance to head to the San Diego Zoo or the San Diego Zoo Safari Park if she could successfully navigate the numbers and choose wisely. While also the name of that catchy new jam from Neon Trees, it was also the category on Jack's mind this morning on Alt 949. Yesterday, in the middle of doing the very mundane and domesticated task of moving some old boxes from one place to another, he discovered a sleeve of old mix CDs from his younger years, and was shocked at how much one band in specific populated them all. While early 2000s Jack was living the pop punk life, 2020 Jack couldn't believe how much his tastes had changed. So, did you hear about the Flat Earther who walked in to the school playground? If you thought this was the setup to a joke, sadly truth is stranger than punchlines. If you've been living under a very flat rock, you might not know there is a fringe movement of people who claim the earth is actually flat, and we've all been suckered into believing it strictly because lying scientists and educators have sold us a junk bond. This morning, Jack delighted at the opportunity to tell you all about one of the weirdest Flat Earth weirdos from the Netflix documentary 'Behind the Curve', and why he got arrested for hassling kids minding their own business. ​Despite the fact Jack's mom can barely work a calculator or a cell phone, she still found a way to digitally clown him this week. Initially thinking she was just being sweet and nostalgic, Jack took a look at a throwback photo from his freshman year in High School, and shuddered. The outfit. The posture. The expression. The dated celebrity he was so eager to get a photo with. The whole thing had him lamenting all the terrible things he unknowingly did in High School, and rightly assumed he wasn't alone. ​What's the worst that could happen during an extremely late night visit to your local Taco Bell drive-thru? Life in freaking prison. As a proud, life-long lover of most things fast food, Jack can get down with a late night mission for burrito supremes and Dorito's Locos tacos, but when he found out what one woman in Michigan is facing after a cheese-fueled melt down, he knew he'd have to spend a few minutes sharing this morning on Alt 949. Sometimes, things that have become a basic part of your daily life get overlooked for how truly strange they actually are. This was basically how Jack felt this morning, after having to explain why both his email address and Instagram handle are 'ActJack159'. In the days before texting, one of Jack's first opportunities to express himself digitally was his AIM screen name (AOL's instant messenger), and as a preteen boy is predisposed to do, Jack put a few crap ideas in, and got a really crappy screen name back. The folks at Corona beer are pretty ticked off about this whole Coronavirus thing, and they aren't taking it lying down anymore. After some quantitative data has shown there are still people who sincerely believe the virus is related to Corona beer, Jack decided to finally use his platform for good, and give the beer makers a megaphone to pump out some pretty important information. All it took was a private, in-home screening of The Silence of the Lambs to make Jack's girlfriend completely afraid of the dark, strangers, loading furniture into vans, and lotion all together. Since Jack's special lady friend has some pretty big gaps in her movie knowledge, Jack forced her to watch the horror classic over the weekend, but this morning on Alt 949 he needed to give her a few new things to be freaked out by, and that's where YOU came in. ​Stop the presses! Adam Levine from Maroon 5 kinda sucks! Or at least that was the case late last week when he had to take to his Instagram Story to apologize to fans in Chile who got a lackluster performance from Mr. Levine and his band Maroon 5. Now, since Jack knows you come straight to Alt 949 for all of your Maroon 5 related information, he felt an obligation this morning to break down the circumstances, the apology, and try earnestly to understand why anyone anywhere actually cares. Little things have a tendency of lingering around in relationships, and eventually turn into bigger problems. Knowing this to be true in his own life, this morning on Alt 949 Jack got something off his chest that grinds his gears about his girlfriend Meryl, and instantly felt a million times better, and ready to head into a Friday date night free of emotional baggage. Not sure if Leap Day was a holiday, an oddity, or just an extra day in February, Jack wanted to spread a little useless information this morning on Alt 949. Knowing that tomorrow is February 29th, Leap Day, he decided to dust off the station's wheel of useless information to find out a few less-than-necessary factoids on the extra day we get every four years. Why does Leap Day exist? What is a Leap Second? Why are Tony Robbins and Ja Rule involved? Jack might now be a suspect in a number of unsolved mysteries after an unsuspecting drywall guy found himself face-to-face with Jack's weird collection. As a proudly macabre guy, Jack has a collection of oddities and curiosities around his house, which never seems like cause for alarm until a stranger comes to visit. After defusing the situation with Jerry the handy man, this morning on Alt 949 Jack was still shaking the experience when he asked YOU to come clean about the dark or just plain weird stuff you have in your house, for a chance to score tickets to a big Alt 949 show with The Black Keys. Channeling a little touch of the dark side of the force this morning, Jack busted out the game you'll only find on Alt 949, for a chance to win a prize that's out of this freaking world. ​Jack isn't a big fan of change, especially when it hits one of his creature comforts. So, it was a little rough going when he found out Netflix was rolling out a new feature, that as well-intentioned as it is, was going to mess with the way he interacts with his favorite streaming service. Maybe you've already noticed the new ranking system in your 'Flix interface, where you can see the most popular and highest ranked movies and series in your country, but Jack figures that's just a bell, or a whistle, or something nobody really needs. Rather than waste time finding out that Stranger Things is popular (gasp) he spent a few minutes running down a ranking that actually serves a purpose. Yep. How's that for a dynamic lead? Over the weekend, Jack did something he's really, really, especially not proud of, and since the first few days of this week hadn't softened his shame, he figured he better exercise the demons this morning on Alt 949. Even the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry, and a little alone time by himself at home quickly turned dark, as a calamity struck him during the most vulnerable of moments, causing him to do something desperate. ​How far would you go to get your hands on fast food gold? For a college cross country team in New York state, it turns out they were willing to go through airport security. When Jack, a professed lover of all things fried, heard about how the gang of hungry students arrived at their plan, how they executed, and the bounty they brought forth from somewhere around Gate F17 of the Albany airport, he knew the bar had been risen forever. Not everyone is as much of a Star Wars nerd as Jack is, and bearing that in mind, this morning on Alt 949 he wanted to give everyone a chance to win tickets to Disneyland. Who does a guy need to screw around here to get some rocket boots and a flying robot car? That was... kind of the question Jack posed this morning on Alt 949, after spending the majority of yesterday afternoon trying to figure out why he couldn't somehow order Postmates or Door Dash directly from inside Netflix while binging Better Call Saul. Since he also figured he isn't the only one out there who spends times thinking about the brave new world we should already have at our fingertips, he put tickets to see The Black Keys on the line and hit the phones. In case you missed it, the official public memorial for Laker great Kobe Bryant was held yesterday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, and tens of thousands of people were there to witness a star-studded group of speakers remember the future NBA Hall of Famer. ​Playing no commercials on Alt 949 is about the only thing worth celebrating on a Monday in San Diego, and Jack feels your pain. Even when you do something you really enjoy for a living, the rude awakening of having to get out of your nice warm bed and face the week can be a really rough reality, so this morning on Alt 949 Jack created a safe space to get it all off your chest. You turn your back for two minutes on your adorable wiener dog and you regret it. ​Being a sick adult in San Diego in February is kind of like a kid being grounded, or at least that's how Jack felt the last few days. Coming down with something just shy of the Coronavirus, Jack returned this morning after a few days on the mat eager to find out all the reasons you got stuck in your house as a kid. Earlier this week, cops in the Midwestern state pulled over a Maserati when a run of the plates popped the driver for having a suspended license, but from that point on it seems very little police work was really required. ​Well the Houston Astros are cheaters. At this point, everyone who cares enough to know already knows, but since spring training is officially kicking off this week, and the apology tour for the players and coaches on the Astros is going about as terribly as you could expect, Jack decided he should probably weigh in and lend a helping hand. Yeah, so what? A lot of people are talking about Valentine's Day today, and you might be sick of hearing about it, but not everyone talking about this Hallmark excuse for a holiday is hooking people up with tickets to see Incubus and 311. This morning, after going over the fine print in his "contract" Jack realized he needed to talk about love, but he refused to do anything positive or uplifting.
