Hi, my name is Cody Wilkinson and this podcast is meant to be an extension of my life. The conversations I have had with my family, friends and even strangers have helped me gain a better understanding of this world and my place in it. I want to know how people think, and how their thought process effects their unique perspective.
9/08/2023 The NFL year is here and Javi is back to recap the offseason plays and drama from the biggest sports league in the world. We also give our divisional, playoff, and Super Bowl predictions. Let's see who sounds stoopider in January. Enjoy!
05/08/23 Once again, my old buddy Lucas joins me on the pod to dive into his passion for surfing. It really is a beautiful thing when somebody finds their passion and surfing is definitely Lucas's. He even started a channel vlogging his life as a dire hard surfer enthusiast/full time medical student. Go check out his content over on YouTube! Lets get @lucashildreth5692 to 5k Subs! The other takeaway I recently took from Lucas was his habit of running at least 1 mile every day. He must be over 400 days by now, but it takes a lot of dedication and more importantly, discipline, to stay focused on your goals and stay committed to your word. He said he would run a mile a day and he's stuck to it. That's what matters. Since being exposed to his routine, I have joined his challenge and restarted my fitness journey. Day 41 is on 6/18/23, I wonder how long the streak lasts... Enjoy!
4/26/23 Something I am betting our species' future on is the power of the internet. On a whim, one of my high school football captains, Dawson, starting posting videos of himself doing short ice baths on Instagram. All of a sudden we're at Day 73 and counting, and Dawson is just getting started. The internet exposed him to this practice and the internet is holding him accountable to his new habit. Taking ice baths, and other holistic health practices, are blowing up online right now. It gives me hope that we can grow into the next century with an intelligent approach to life on this planet. Enjoy! https://hubermanlab.com/the-science-and-use-of-cold-exposure-for-health-and-performance/
12/17/22 After a long wait for both of us, Sarah finally joins me on the Pod. Sarah works remote for a Think Tank out of D.C. that focuses on prison reform. Among the many really important issues in our country, unjust and sometimes unlawful imprisonment has some of the most extreme consequences on our country... Studies show that a lack of father figures in the community has a greater negative effect on young boys and men than the lack of a father itself. Along with growing up in and around the Capital, Sarah has a unique insight into the machine of our Government. She has seen the corruption of the establishment and inspiring work of the few good one's first hand, and I thoroughly enjoyed our conversation. Enjoy!
2/10/23 The conclusion of the 2022-23 season is here, and I just had to talk to the family football savant. We give our picks for the big game and talk some of the biggest moves of the unlucky teams who started their offseason weeks ago... Including the fallout of the Broncos disastrous season, Aaron Rodgers' landing spot, Lamar Jackson's future and more. Enjoy!
8/27/22 Welcome back! In the pod's triumphant return, Connor Mudrick, formerly known as my first guest, and I have a good ole fashioned conversation about how things have changed since our college years; the differences between the lifestyles in the West and the East; and I ask him something I've asked dozens of people around my age. Suspiciously, he gives the exact same response I've received every time I ask... Enjoy!
2/13/22 The NFL season is over, and what a season it was! Javi joins me once more to recap the greatest 5 game stretch in NFL playoff history; provide our picks for the game, spoiler alert: I was wrong; and speculate the future of the league including the head coaching hires, quarterback free agency, and our WAY too early picks for Super Bowl LVII. Enjoy!
1/13/22 As promised, I have brought back my family's NFL wizard to wrap up the NFL season. As Super Wild-Card Weekend approaches, Javi and I review our projected playoff scenarios from mid-season and compare them to the playoff bracket we find ourselves with. We discuss who we would want in the QB position for the next 5-10 years, as well as the most interesting head coaching vacancies for the upcoming season. Most importantly, we give our takes on who wins this weekend and answer the big question: who is going to make Super Bowl LVI? Enjoy!
12/2/21 For decades, athletes trained their bodies to compete at the peak of their physical capabilities. But recently, modern athletes have been able to achieve heights nobody thought possible by training their mind as well as their body. This side of sports is where we exceed our physical talent and achieve our true potential. Those who have mastered this aspect of their field inevitably rise to the top. Today's guest is in the center of our collective effort to understand mind in sport and is currently training athletes from 12 year old knuckleheads to former college football players preparing for the NFL Combine. Enjoy!
11/02/21 Today's episode is everything NFL. On Monday night we wrapped up week 8 of the NFL season, and as we enter the second half of the season, I thought it would be a great idea to have my cousin, Javi, on to dedicate a whole episode to sports talk. Javi has loved football for longer than I have and his knowledge base as a junior in high school is nothing short of remarkable. We get into a QB G.O.A.T. debate, make our picks for the AFC and NFC playoff picture, and of course, our analyses of the season thus far. Enjoy!
09/26/21 Today's guest is one of my favorite people to talk to because he has such a unique perspective on life. Atticus discusses a big idea that he has that solved two birds with one stone, AND it's sustainable. He is one of the most resilient people I've ever met... and he raps. I absolutely believe that he can make this happen, did I mention he raps? Enjoy!
9/05/21 One aspect of this podcast I was excited about most was the opportunity to stay in touch with some of my favorite professors from college. This episode is the first of hopefully many great conversations with former professors from Holy Cross. Steve was my American Film professor who exposed me to some of the greatest American Films in the last 100 years. My favorites from the class were Sunset Boulevard (Billy Wilder, 1950), Something Wild (Jonathan Demme, 1986), The Fabulous Baker Boys (Steve Kloves, 1989), Personal Best (Robert Towne, 1982), and the most tragic for last, Moonlight (Barry Jenkins, 2016). These 5 were among 34 of the best films I've ever seen and watching them/discussing them expanded my ability to appreciate films, if nothing else. Thank you again for taking the time right before the semester kicked off, I look forward to your Best of 2 Years Ago List every year. Enjoy!
07/21 Today, Bradley Hilton makes his third appearance on CodyCast101. Since the last I talked to him, he was packing up for a road trip for the winter months covering the West coast from Washington to Baja. Bradley is a man who lives a very unique life and I'm grateful to get the chance to pick his brain and learn about the experiences that shaped his life through this podcast. We recapped his trip from the Grand Lake, CO to Bend, OR to Baja, Mexico and back. Interwoven throughout this recap, we discussed, Climate Change, psychedelics, diet, life, and so much more. Enjoy!
06/30/21 Today I finally was able to sit down with Matt Benardis for an excellent, targeted discussion on the religious themes that I've been pondering in the last year, since our last discussion. We talked about his faith, and how building and then fostering a flourishing relationship with God has positively impacted his life; how discipline and sacrifice towards any noble pursuit is God-like in nature; and I describe my theory on the Wall of Ignorance. For me, these types of focused and driven conversations are the peak of what podcasts are capable of, and we hit another level on this one. Enjoy!
06/15/21 The first episode of CodyCast101 was posted on June 4, 2020 with Connor Mudrick, a freshman year Montserrat classmate of mine and a member of the Mens Rowing Team. Other than that, we didn't know each other well during our time on the Hill. That changed during Stage 1 of the road trip home in Worcester, MA, back at the Hill. Connor just happened to be the roommate of the friend who's couch I was to be occupying for the next half a week. I wanted to start the podcast there and he was the most eager to sit down with me, for which I'm grateful. And now that a year has passed since my first conversation on CodyCast101, it seemed fitting to have him back on the show to reflect on the crazy last 12 months we've all had; and to reboot this podcast, my mind refreshed, and refocused. It was great to catch up with Connor last week, and consequently, it gave rise to a promise to return in June of 2022! To hash it out once again in the 3rd installment of an annual tradition. Enjoy
4/7/21 Lucas Hildreth is in his first year of medical school at NY Institute of Technology, but he's much more well known around the world as a surfer. Lucas was one of the first people I met at Holy Cross and was always the hardest working guy on the team. A true class act who pushed me to match his work ethic, we caught up on each others lives, got into the anatomy of our bodies and various injuries, the intricacies of our brains and more. Enjoy!
3/18/21 Qi-gong is a millennia old system of coordinated body-posture and movement, breathing and meditation used for health, spirituality and martial-arts training. It is literally translated as qi (or chi) = energy and gong = practice, qi-gong = energy practice. For me personally, it has opened my eyes to the asymmetry that years of athletics has done to my body. Through Kate's zoom classes, I feel like I know so much more about my own body and the process of getting myself back to 100%. Kate and her partner, Akbar, host their class through Healing Circles Langley, an online one-stop-shop for self care. They've got multiple healing circles, a blog, and a growing community all of whom are passionate about safe spaces and healing. Enjoy! 3/8/21 Atticus Kane, also known as his stage name Atti K, is an aspiring rapper from Worcester, MA. Fittingly, We met sophomore year of college during a freestyle session in our boy Travy's truck. Atticus grew up in a completely different world than I did, surrounded by things I didn't even think existed. And he was able to overcome those obstacles and land at a very challenging institution like Holy Cross, something I've always respected him for. I've always been a huge hip-hop fan and his future rap career was something we both became passionate about over the course of our sophomore year. We would talk about hip hop and how he envisioned himself emerging into the rap game, write rhymes together, and whats next for Atti K. Today's conversation is much of the same. We get into what inspires him, his message as an artist, lyrical/poetic rappers vs. mumble rappers, goals, Atti K's next song, and more. Enjoy! https://www.instagram.com/atti_kane/ https://www.instagram.com/codycast_101/ Interventions- http://smarturl.it/attikint ^^^Latest Single^^^
2/22/21 After I met Cam in his backyard shop last summer, I knew I had to talk to him on the show. He and his wife founded C&K Archery roughly a year and a half ago and today they're on the precipice of expanding out of their house and into a new shop with an indoor range. With goals focused on expanding the sport in our youth and bringing together the archery community that reside in the mountains of CO, they're on their way towards becoming prominent members of the community. We discussed the start of his passion for archery and how it led to the creation of his own small business, how flow states play a roll in the shot process, the current state of our country (something I'm very interested in), personality types, gun safety laws, hunting ethics, effective communicators in our politics, the definition of authenticity, and an excellent idea for a hot dog stand... Enjoy! https://www.instagram.com/ck_archery/ https://candkarchery.com https://www.instagram.com/codycast_101/
1/9/21 Today on the pod, I sit down with a fellow ski instructor at the resort, Jack Martin. Last week, we took our PSIA Alpine Level 1 exam. Day one is Movement Analysis; Day 2 is Skiing; and Day 3 is Teaching. Since Jack sleeps in his car when he comes up for the weekend from Boulder, I let him crash at my place during the exam and we really got into it on this one. Jack is getting his Ph.D. in Programing Languages through the Computer Science department and comes up the pass during the weekend to teach little kids how to ski, not a bad side gig if you ask me. On this episode, we drink Weihenstephaners as Jack describes his research in Programing Languages, the problem with our current political representation, avalanches, the extreme endurance races of Megavalanche and the Tour de France, and we answer the biggest question I've ever asked on this pod: What if LeBron James was a skier? Enjoy! https://www.instagram.com/codycast_101/
1/3/21 Let's kickoff the new year right! This week, Jon Jon Roberts returns to join me on a unique episode that I'm definitely interested in doing more of. We synced up our TVs from across the country and watched the 4th quarter of the final game of the NFL's regular season, the Philadelphia Eagles vs. the Washington Football Team (RIP Redskins). With live reactions to the dumpster fire that was the end of this game, our analysis of the state of the sport coming into 2021, and high school football stories, this episode is everything football and we had a great time. Enjoy!
12/20/20 Today I made another visit to Grand Lake to sit down with my good friend CJ. Since, I started working at the Marina last summer, he has become my go-to bro to hangout with. A true nomad, CJ has sailed the seas off the coast of Key West, Florida, travelled to a dozen countries and as soon as the lockdowns are lifted, wants to become a Safari guide in Africa. A topic we'll have to get to when we run it back. This recording came together after a chaotic week for the podcast, but in true fashion with a major theme of the last few weeks, Consistency was maintained, and Episode 19 is finally here. Enjoy! https://www.instagram.com/codycast_101/
12/11/20 The Sunshine Herb Corner is a locally owned, herb shop that focuses on providing healthy supplements that promote a proactive approach to one's health. They have an abundance of vitamins, mushrooms, various herbs, Eastern medicines and more. The owner, Jeanette Thompson has made herbs and supplements her life's passion and 10 years ago she turned her passion into a business. It was great to meet and talk with a Grand County local and I truly hope to do more. Enjoy!
12/6/20 On today's episode, I sit down with the man behind LongLiveIb, Ibn Wilkerson. Ibn and I met through American Football Worldwide, an organization that promotes American football on an international scale. They recruit a team of seniors every year from across the country and take them on a trip abroad to play football games against teams from Italy, China, Ireland and more. Ibn played cornerback, receiver, and returned punts for us and I obviously held the kicking and punting duties for the team as well as defensive end. Ib had 2 big play touchdowns and I laid claim to the only sack in the game plus 5 solo tackles. This was a once in a lifetime experience that both of us will never forget and we're grateful for the opportunity to do something so unique. Now, almost 5 years later, Ibn has started his own YouTube channel, LongLiveIb, and has been making Call of Duty videos for the past month, as well as streaming live on YouTube and Twitch. Since we're both new at our respective forms of content creation, Ibn and I came to an important conclusion in our conversation that can and should be applied to all aspects of life: Consistency. Everything we do has the potential to become something great, but its potential drops to 0 if we stop what we're doing. CodyCast101 and LongLiveIb will never amount to anything if we stop uploading, but who knows what they could become if we upload every week for 1 year, 2 years, 3 years? Consistency + Passion = Success. Enjoy! 11/25/20 On the third installment of Catching Up w/, I sit down with one of my roommates from college, a teammate and upstanding friend Jon Jon Roberts. He is someone who has been very supportive of the podcast and I'm very exciting to bring to you all a guest I've really been looking forward to having on the show. Jon Jon played slot receiver, returned punts, and was the guy I backed up as the starting holder for the kickers on the team. Therefore, Jon Jon was an official member of the specialist squad for HC! Today we touched on a myriad of topics from our UFC fight nights at Hooters, his leadership role with Athlete Bible Study on campus, Greek Mythology, how to breed success with the mentality sports can provide for us and more. Enjoy!
11/19/20 Recently I've been randomly talking to some old friends and its been great to see how their doing and talk about whatever we want. So, I'm starting a new series called Catching Up w/. On the second installment Catching Up w/, Alex Johnson joins me to discuss nature vs. nurture/fate vs. free will climate change, the college football season, the current state of our political world as a resident of nations capital and more. Enjoy!
11/8/20 Today, I sit down with a former teammate from my college football days, Miles Alexander. He played running back for 4 years and was someone who I considered to be an important leader during our Patriot League Championship run last season. After graduating, Miles moved to Austin, TX to sling tech for Dell EMC. Enjoy
10/28/20 In episode one of season two, I went hiking with my co-worker from the Marina. All day long we were wading through the smoke from East Troublesome fire and shortly after I left, the town was evacuated. Last week I returned to the place I thought was burned to the ground to again talk to Bradley Hilton. In this episode, Bradley tells his evacuation story.
After a 6 hour hike up to Lone Pine Lake on the outskirts of Rocky Mountain National Park, I sat down with Bradley Hilton to reflect on the summer we spent working together at the Grand Lake Marina, society's increasing distance from our spirituality and connection with nature, how climate change is our civilization's biggest threat, and much more. Bradley grew up in Grand Lake, CO and has spent the last decade traveling the world and pioneering the fairly new sport of competitive stand up paddle boarding. He has competed in white water rivers all over the world and hosts guided adventures for anyone who is interested. The East Troublesome Fire has significantly shaken the community here, but as Bradley stated in the episode, fire is a natural process and it leaves new potential for life to flourish. We can also flourish in the wake of this disaster. To donate to the Grand Foundation's Emergency Wildfire Fund please visit: https://grandfoundation.com/Donate?fund=Wildfire%20Emergency%20Fund
Part 2 In part 1, I left everyone off with a little teaser of whats to come in part 2. Before recording this podcast, Tubes and I discussed his immersion into Buddhism while in college. So, I thought that this topic, after already recording for an hour in part one, deserved its own hour of power. I personally have found mediation very beneficial for my mental health and I strongly suggest everyone to give it a try. Enjoy.
7/29/20 This is the first in a two part series with my high school football teammate and fellow college ball player, Grant Tubridy. Grant is someone who wasn't dealt a good hand early on and he worked his ass off to get where he is today, an incoming safety at Adams State University in Alamosa, CO. What I love about this podcast is my ability to have on whoever I want and talk about whatever I want. The topics really depend on the guest and on this episode we take a complete 180 from my episode last week with Ashley Bright. This was just two guys talking smack and having fun. Enjoy
7/24/20 As a young kid, I was a member of the Boys and Girls Club of Central Wyoming and it made a big impact on me. For me, it provided a safe place to hang out after school rather than going home and waiting by myself for my parents to come home after work. But it's so much more for so many other kids. They provide free meals, a multitude of programs to get kids engaged and off the streets, two gymnasiums, tutors for homework and so much more. Mr. Bright has literally made Central Wyoming a better place and it was an honor to see him again and sit down for an honest discussion. Enjoy
7/5/20 Brett Cumming is an avid outdoorsman and an absolute workhorse. We met skiing together in Winter Park and I visited him in Bozeman, MT during my road trip. He is a very unique human in that he has sworn off social media, and smartphones all together opting for an old school flip phone and spends his days working towards buying a ranch in the Rocky Mountains one day. He is also very involved in Young Life, a youth outreach program that helps kids through the teachings of Christ. At the end of the day, he is just the type of guy dads want their daughters to marry. Enjoy.
6/22/20 For this Podcast I gave Matt some homework. I tasked him with listening to Logic's 2017 album Everybody. In it, Logic creates his own version of Andy Weir's story "The Egg." It's worth checking out on its own, but it's a great start to our conversation. I hope you enjoy it.
Patrick Ellbogen grew up across the street from me. We played all sorts of sports together as kids and I've known him for as long as I can remember. However, once we graduated high school, we both wanted to see more of what the world has to offer us than what Wyoming can provide. And while both of us love our home state, going to great universities far from home was probably the best decision of our lives. Patrick graduated Pre-Health with a bachelors in History from the University of Notre Dame and on my road trip I was able to stay with him for a great couple of days. Enjoy.
6/16/2020 Today the podcast takes on a more serious tone. I began this podcast with the goal of getting to know how people think, why their belief systems take root and where their belief systems come from. Especially in today's polarized climate, it is essential that we not only partake in but seek out conversations with people that are different from us. Mario Quinn Lyles is the host of his own podcast (LevelUp Podcast), a mentor of underprivileged youth, a father, a dancer, a hiphop recording artist, an educator and a proud black man. It was my honor to get the chance to sit down and discuss issues surrounding race, the Black Lives Matter Movement and the ideological polarization that plagues our society today. https://www.leveluppgh.com - Here is the link to Mario's website
6/16/2020. As my time in Pittsburgh came to an end I was able to finally sit down with the man of the house himself, Dylan Ahrens. Dylan is my brother in law (married my sister) and up until this pandemic, that's more of less who he was to me. But after living with them for 3 months and being a third pair of hands for the baby, Dylan has become a valued member of my family. The brother I never had.
June 14, 2020. One of the best things about staying with my sister's family in Pittsburgh was the introduction to an array of completely unique and fascinating people. Today I sat down with someone who was unlike anyone I've ever met, Maria Colleen Halley. She is a yoga master, lived at the edge of the Amazon Rain Forest, and is a truly free spirit.
June 2, 2020. My good friend and roommate of two years Justin Knotts joins me on a hike through the Catoctin Mountains of Western Maryland. Together we climbed some rocks to get a fantastic view of the valley before we set the mic up. It really set the tone for a great conversation. Thanks go out to Justin and his wonderful family for hosting me for a few days as I move across the country.
May 30, 2020 Today I spoke with my friend Connor Mudrick as we reflected on our last day at the College of the Holy Cross. As recent college grads we talked about what it is like to graduate in 2020 and the state of the world we are entering. I really enjoyed his insight and I hope you enjoy the conversation we had.
