Bitcoin above $38,000, with secondplace cryptocurrency network Ethereum breaking new all time highs. One Ether $1,673 as of earlier Friday. In tech news, it has come out Elon Musk's always-on satellite Internet network, Starlink, already has 10,000 users around the world. In a regulatory filing with the FCC, SpaceX revealed that Starlink intends to register as an eligible telecom carrier, showing the level of ambition ahead for the satellite broadband product. SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched 60 additional Starlink satellites into orbit back in November. Some fans of cryptocurrency have expressed concern that if Bitcoin becomes a true threat to traditional finance, the powers that be could turn off the Internet itself, rendering Bitcoin unusable. With Starlink, those worried crypto users can perhaps sleep a little better. The Internet service would be potentially immune to Earth-based disruption of most kinds, and its satellite array signal reaches everywhere, even in rural communities with no access to other telecom services.

In the second installment of our Elements series (not like Olivia forgot or anything), we're taking off into the air. Elise tells us about Starlink, a project of Elon Musk's SpaceX, and how the race for space internet might come with a massive sacrifice. Also, space garbage? Then, Olivia tells the story of the relatively new 'flygskam' movement, all the industry executives pressed by Greta Thunberg, and how flight free travel could be the wave of the future. We talk about what we should (and shouldn't) sacrifice for the greater good, billionaire Twitter feuds, and the connection between wealth and carbon emissions. Fine Music Radio — Last Wednesday a further 60 satellites were launched as part of SpaceX's Starlink project. Eventually many thousands of these small satellites will ring the Earth, providing Internet access to almost the entire globe. This is however problematic, as they interfere with astronomy given their light pollution. Willie Koorts shows us how to image the 'String of Pearls' in his youtube videos which you can find on https://www.youtube.com/user/SterremanWillie/videos.

SpaceX's Starlink project may or may not be a bad thing, but it definitely resembles very closely the megalomaniacal plan of the bad guy in Kingsman: The Secret Service, which doesn't bode well. It is also polluting our sky with light, ruining astronomical observations, and barging other satellites out of its way. I suppose it's also delivering internet connectivity, maybe, at some point in the future, and probably money for Elon Musk and his investors. But mainly, it's delivering frowns for people who like the sky.

During this launch hangout we talk about the details behind the launch of 60 Starlink satellite that will be part of a constellation that will later provide affordable worldwide 5G internet coverage to all. The controversy? Unknown to seemingly everyone before launch, the reflectivity of the Starlink solar panels at certain periods of the day is ruining ground based astronomers images of the stars. I try to sift through the facts and provide a balanced point of view on this. Is SpaceX doing enough to help with this? Is this the end of Astronomy as we know it? Listen to find out!
