POPULARITY
In this illuminating episode of the TLC, Tend Life Community Podcast, we dive into the transformative world of solar energy with Manuel Larrain, the marketing manager with Northwest Electric and Solar. Thinking about solar panels for your roof or the sleek Tesla Solar Roof? Wondering how to store and optimize solar energy for your home or business? Manuel walks us through the possibilities, touching on everything from energy efficiency to the environmental benefits of going solar. We also shed light on the financial perks, including potential federal tax credits for solar installations that make the transition even more appealing. With energy rates on the rise—especially for Puget Sound Energy customers—solar can be your ticket to long-term savings while staying ahead of rate hikes. But it's not all watts and wires! In our signature Sipping on Success segment, we uncorked a bottle Barrage Cellars 2019 Red Mountain Malbec wine to toast innovation and sustainability. Because what pairs better with sunny solutions than a glass of perfectly aged inspiration? Whether you're dreaming of a Tesla Solar Roof, considering battery storage, or simply exploring ways to outsmart utility bills, this episode is packed with bright ideas, financial insights, and a few wine-inspired chuckles.

Watts Up - The Truth About Tesla Solar Roof Tiles This week we discuss the good, bad, and ugly of the Tesla Solar Roof Tiles. Is it worth it? Do they work like regular Solar Panels?
On Today's Episode: Mohammed Abdalla, the dynamic founder and CEO of Good Faith Energy, navigated a life marked by early adversity. Losing his father at a young age, he cultivated resilience and determination. His journey from a short-lived career in the fossil fuel sector to traveling the world with only two backpacks brought him to an epiphany in Germany — the vast potential of solar energy. In this Tactical Tuesday, we highlight Mohammed's distinctive business strategies, the challenges of scaling, and the power of an intentional mindset. From bootstrapping his way from selling Nest thermostats to pioneering installations of the Tesla Solar Roof, he underlines the importance of staying ahead of the technology curve. I've been impressed with his company, Good Faith Energy, and their effective marketing tactics, including the utility of podcasts, Google ads, and YouTube. The emphasis on transparent communication, understanding customer needs, and the pivotal role of leadership during growth phases are highlighted.Mohammed's interview stands out not just for its tangible business strategies but for its reflection of a journey grounded in resilience, innovation, and purpose. It weaves a narrative of individual growth synchronized with sustainable business practices, offering listeners a holistic blueprint for entrepreneurial success in a world seeking green alternatives. If this episode piques your interest, and you would like to hear about the life story(ies) that got him where he is today, queue up our full Executive Profile with Mohammed, episode 557 of SunCast! Mohammed Abdalla, the founder and CEO of Good Faith Energy, is no stranger to adversity. His father died when he was nine, leaving his mother to rear five children. Mohammed, the middle child, used the childhood challenges to cultivate the grit, determination and fire that now serve him well as an entrepreneur. After a disappointing early career experience in oil and gas — he said he was fired for breaking the rules and possibly asking the wrong questions — he traveled the world searching for his next path. With his belongings in two backpacks, he wandered throughout South America, Europe, Africa and Asia for a year. One day, on a train in Germany, he saw countless rooftops covered in solar panels. The promise of the sun drew him to renewables and, in 2014, the launch of Texas-based Good Faith Energy. The company, one of Texas's fastest-growing residential solar installers, is the leading national installer for the SPAN smart electrical panel and the Tesla Solar Roof, a fully integrated solar and energy storage system.Join us to learn how Mohammed capitalized on setbacks and failures to build a nationally recognized leader in distributed solar and storage. He considers his company "a movement and a lifestyle, a family and community." It's a profoundly personal and interesting story you'll enjoy hearing as much as I did.If you want to connect with today's guest, you'll find links to his contact info in the show notes on the blog.SunCast is presented by Sungrow, the world's most bankable inverter brand. You can learn more about all the sponsors who help make this show free for you, here: www.mysuncast.com/sponsorsRemember you can always find the resources and learn more about today's guest, recommendations, book links, and more than 556 other founder stories and startup advice at www.mysuncast.com.You can connect with me, Nico Johnson, on Twitter, LinkedIn or email.
Show #623 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Sunday 27th October 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. Hi to Jon: “Hi, you've been talking alot about how ev's wil be more available after 01.01.20, this seems to be very true! All of the people who have ordered a e tron 50 in Norway have been told that the car has been delayed because of the test date for wltp has been poursponed from week 45 to week 49 insuring that no etron 50's get delivered untill after new year. Probably just to get a lesser c02 penalty next year. Cheap move by Audi since there are 50's that have already come off the assembly line. My order entered production earlier this week.” Thank you to LEE BROWN for becoming an EXECUTIVE PRODUCER. And thank you to CHARLES FOX for becoming a PRODUCER. TESLA SOLAR ROOF V3 REAL QUOTE SHOWS PRICE DROPPED BY 40% "Electrek obtained an updated Tesla Solar Roof quote from V2 to V3, and it shows that the price of the solar roof tiles went down by as much as 40% with the new generation." says Fred at Electrek today talking about one of their readers: "For a 9.45 kW system on a 1,862-square-foot roof, Tesla was charging him $64,634 for the solar roof, along with $10,050 for a Powerwall, and another $10,630 for roof and site repairs. That’s a total of just over $85,000 all in. The homeowner ended up not ordering the system, but Tesla has now updated the quote following the launch of Solar Roof V3, and it’s now much cheaper. Tesla is now listing the same solar roof system at $38,266 instead of $64,634 — a 40% reduction in price — and the total is down to $54,866:" https://electrek.co/2019/10/27/tesla-solar-roof-v3-quote-price-decrease/ BORGWARNER EV TECH SHOWS UP IN ARIEL NOMAD EV DEMONSTRATOR VEHICLE BorgWarner, a company engaged in electrification on various fronts, unveiled an interesting new electric demonstration vehicle, which happens to be a high-voltage buggy. Meet the Ariel Nomad EV, an Ariel Nomad converted to all-electric drive" reports InsideEVs: "The Ariel Nomad EV is equipped with two High-Voltage Hairpin (HVH) 250 electric motors and eGearDrive gear sets (each one independently controlling a rear wheel) and a 30 kWh battery pack." BorgWarner says: ""A benefit of the vehicle’s electrified powertrain is its improved steering response made possible through torque vectoring. This feature allows both forward motion and regenerative braking, delivering a dynamic and controllable driving experience. Another key technology is BorgWarner’s thermal-management system, which circulates coolant via an electric pump through the inverters and battery pack. The liquid-cooled, 350V 30kWh pack delivers peak power of 200kW." https://insideevs.com/news/378600/borgwarner-ariel-nomad-ev-demonstrator/ FIRST ALL-ELECTRIC LEXUS TO LAUNCH IN 2020 "Toyota Motor’s (7203.T) Lexus will launch its first all-battery electric vehicle next year, as the luxury brand races to market a battery-operated car amid growing competition to develop zero-emissions vehicles, the head of the brand said on Wednesday." according to a Reuters article: "At the unveiling of a concept model of a futuristic EV hatchback ahead of the Tokyo Motor Show, he added that the goal is for sales of Lexus electric vehicles, including battery electrics and gasoline hybrids, to outpace sales of the luxury brand’s gasoline vehicle models by 2025." https://www.reuters.com/article/us-autoshow-tokyo-lexus/toyotas-luxury-lexus-brand-plans-battery-ev-launch-in-2020-idUSKBN1X20FX TESLA MODEL Y BASHED BY AUTO VETERAN "The Tesla Model Y is expected to be the company’s highest-volume vehicle yet, with Elon Musk noting during the recently-held third-quarter earnings call that he expects the crossover to outsell Model S, Model X, and Model 3 combined. Former GM vice chair Bob Lutz, on the other hand, has some doubts, and a lot of that has to do with the way the Model Y looks." says Simon at Teslarati. Lutz: "The Model 3 continues to sell well. But the Model Y, I think it’s terminally ugly. I don’t know who’s gonna buy that. It’s another one of these humpback things like the Model X. It’s neither a sport utility nor a sedan, and to the extent it sells, I don’t think it’s going to break into a new segment. I think the sales will be largely substitutional to the Model 3" https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-model-y-ugly-bob-lutz-video/ NSW UNVEILS PLAN TO SWITCH SYDNEY’S 8,000 BUSES TO ALL-ELECTRIC "The NSW Government is seeking proposals to shift Sydney’s entire 8,000 strong bus fleet to an all-electric fleet in a landmark decision that marks one of the first tangible policies towards the state’s goal of reaching zero net emissions by 2050." according to thedriven.io: "NSW transport minister Andrew Constance says he will seek new contracts for the supply and operation of Sydney’s public bus system, a move that will open the door to electric buses and substantially reduce the environmental footprint of Sydney’s public transport network. Successful electric bus shuttle services have already been in operation at the Sydney and Brisbane airports, which confirmed the cost and reliability benefits of electric buses over traditional diesel buses. Electric buses represent an enormous potential for reducing the environmental footprint of the Australian transport sector, as well as providing a boost to Australia’s fledgling manufacturing sector." https://thedriven.io/2019/10/28/nsw-transport-minister-wants-all-of-sydneys-8000-buses-to-go-all-electric/amp/?__twitter_impression=true QUESTION OF THE WEEK RAJEEV NARAYAN If the price was right I would strongly consider it, My Chevy Bolt is 2 years old now and has 61K miles on it and I have not once DC fast charged it. Many people may simply need a car to drive around town and don't need DC fast charging. SACHA For frequent long distance trips, there’s no doubt CCS or superchargers are a must but I think different people have different needs and as such not having CCS and just using AC charging might work for people with houses . If it means getting a vehicle for 10k or so it might be worth it (although is CCS circuitry really that expensive that excluding it is really worth it for manufacturers ?) When considering resale it’s a different story however - a car with both AC and CCS has more prospective buyers and might retain its value better . Of course any EV is better than a fossil powered car so no complaints here either way! BILL POLLOCK As you likely know our North American domestic Electrical service is limited to 110v on One pole or 220V on Two poles. Typically we run only 30 amps on our 220V circuits but can go as high as 50amps for high-draw appliances (an induction stove for example) Our Level 2 chargers are 40 amps max, so our highest Level 2 charge is about 8kW. That's an overnight charge every time. So...no, I will not buy an EV without 50kW DC level 3 minimum. JOHN HARCOMBE I do not care what charger plug car has as on average people only do 1 or 2 long trips per year where they have to charge away from home charger. The major issue that UK Government should be sorting out with Europe and rest of countries now before massive numbers of ev being sold is have one standard high power charging plug like 500kw that is bi-directional, meaning grid to vehicle and vehicle to grid. I see Japan CHAdeMO's and China GBT looking at a combined charger plug standard which are backward compatible. MARK BUCKINGHAM Kia ora Martyn, even though I have a Kona, yes just ac charging is fine depends on use case. Also more importantly in 3 hours England is playing the All Blacks in Japan to get into the final and then of course to win the world cup!! Show #621 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Friday 25th October 2019. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. VW CEO CORRECTS TSLA CRITICS: "TESLA IS NOT NICHE" "Less than a month after Tesla CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter to share his support for Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess, the German auto executive responded in kind, setting the record straight with some reporters at the company’s recent event for the new Golf." reports Simon Alvarez for Teslarati: "Despite the runaway success of the Tesla Model 3, the reporters indicated that they still view Tesla as a “niche” carmaker, capable of making low-volume vehicles well but otherwise out of its league in the mass market segment. This was a comment that did not sit well with the Volkswagen CEO. Correcting the reporters, Diess came to Tesla’s defense" Herbert Diess: "Tesla is not niche. The Model 3 is a large-series model and they are one of the biggest manufacturers of electric-car batteries. We have a lot of respect for Tesla. It’s a competitor we take very seriously" https://www.teslarati.com/elon-musk-volkswagen-ceo-corrects-tsla-critics-tesla-model-3-niche/ Meanwhile Yahoo Finance says: "Tesla shares soared 18% Thursday -- the biggest jump in 6 1/2 years -- following a surprise quarterly profit report. The rally vaulted the company back above General Motors Co. as the top U.S. automaker by market capitalization. The words of praise may have been a response in kind to Musk, 48, who tweeted last month that Diess was “doing more than any big carmaker to go electric.” https://finance.yahoo.com/news/tesla-no-niche-automaker-anymore-205812663.html VERSION 3 OF TESLA’S NEW SOLARGLASS ROOF TILES "Tesla launched the new version 3 of its Solarglass Roof on a public conference call today. Version 3 of the newly renamed Solarglass Roof integrates a number of meaningful improvements to the now larger tiles that promise to improve the cost of the roof while delivering a much faster installation time." says Kyle Field at CleanTechnica: "Tesla has increased the energy density of its roofing product, cut the cost, and increased the manufacturability. Vice president of technology at Tesla Drew Baglino noted that Tesla was aiming to improve the product essentially across the board, improving its cost and beauty as well as manufacturability of the tiles across the board. Version 3 nailed it, delivering significant improvements by: Increasing the size of the tile Increasing the power density of the tile Dramatically reducing the number of parts and sub-assemblies by more than half (made possible by the larger tiles) Reducing the number of steps in manufacturing (made possible by the larger tiles) Reducing cost (enabled by the larger tiles) Changing some of the materials used Changing the technology that hides the solar cells to something that’s more scalable https://cleantechnica.com/2019/10/25/everything-you-need-to-know-about-version-3-of-teslas-new-solarglass-roof-tiles/ From Electrek: "Tesla now lists a base 2,000 ft² roof with 10 kW of solar roof tiles installed will cost $33,950 after incentives. Musk claims that Tesla can quickly ramp up to producing 1,000 roofs per week at Tesla’s Gigafactory 2 in Buffalo. However, the biggest difference with the latest version of the Tesla Solar Roof tiles is that the made it easier to install. Musk said that Tesla will also work with third-party installers to certify them for solar roof installations and expect the program to help grow solar adoption. Installations are starting right now with the existing backlog of orders and the company is taking new orders that should start next year." https://electrek.co/2019/10/25/tesla-solarglass-solar-roof-v3-price/ Tech site The Verge said: "The billionaire CEO claimed the new roof tiles, which are bigger and more power dense, will help “make roofs come alive,” creating a world “where you look around the neighborhood and the roofs are all gathering energy.” “I think in the future, it will be odd for roofs to not gather energy,” Musk said. The promise of the Solar Roof has always been an enticing one. Pay a premium over standard solar panels, and you can get a normal-looking tiled roof that will suck up the sun’s energy all the same. It won’t be for everyone, though." https://www.theverge.com/2019/10/25/20932831/tesla-new-solar-glass-roof-elon-musk-version-three TechCrunch reports "“Figuring out how to install it effectively is very non-trivial. And we’re actually going to have […] ‘installathons,’ ” Musk said, which will pit two teams against each other to see who can roof one of two similar-sized/designed roofs faster. Musk reiterated later that there’s “quite a bit of R&D just in the installation process itself.” Musk also said that while it’s hiring and training specialized installers at first, the plan is to ultimately expand installations to any third-party contractors as well. The total addressable market that Musk sees for this product is somewhere on the order of 100 million houses worldwide, and Musk stressed that the company does indeed intend to make this available worldwide." https://techcrunch.com/2019/10/25/teslas-new-solar-roof-costs-less-than-a-new-roof-plus-solar-panels-aims-for-install-rate-of-1k-per-week/ BYTON STARTS PRE-PRODUCTION OF THE M-BYTE EV "The Chinese electric car brand Byton has now started production of the pre-production series of its first M-Byte model at its Nanjing plant. The manufacturer says it already has 50,000 reservations for the EV worldwide." reports electrive: "According to the announcement, the M-Byte will be offered at an entry-level price of 45,000 euros excluding VAT and possible government subsidies. This model has a 200 kW powerful rear engine and a 72 kWh battery (360 km range according to WLTP). Byton did not reveal the price for the 4WD high-performance configuration (300 kW drive, 95 kWh battery, 435 kilometre-range) in their press release. In the case of Polestar, sales will be carried out online, while Polestar Space will be kind of like stores to show and demonstrate particular models and to inform customers without salespeople." writes InsideEVs. Jonathan Goodman, Chief Operations Officer at Polestar said: “The Polestar Space is our way of changing the face of automotive retail. With no salesmen and no vehicles on the forecourt, there is no hard sell, no requirement to shift stock and an entirely customer-focussed journey. Consumers will define how much they interact with the exhibits and Polestar Specialists tailoring their experience to their exact needs, not the brand’s. Once they have found the perfect specification, seamless digital interactivity places the vehicle in the customer’s app, ready to be ordered when it suits them. We will put the fun back into buying a car!” https://insideevs.com/news/378364/polestar-first-european-polestar-space-oslo/ QUESTION OF THE WEEK The MYEV.com Question Of The Week… Set by Chris Meilak: "Would you buy a new EV which only has AC charging (ie Zoe) or CHAdeMO (ie Nissan) today?" Tuesday 8th May 2018. TESLA REQUIRES ALL CONTRACTORS TO HAVE AN EMPLOYEE VOUCH FOR THEM Elon Musks recent email to staff said "“I have been disappointed to discover how many contractor companies are interwoven throughout Tesla,” Musk’s email read. “Often, it is like a Russian nesting doll of contractor, subcontractor, sub-subcontractor, etc. before you finally find someone doing actual work” Now according to Digital Trends: "Musk’s original email gave contractors a week in order to prove their worth to the company, but he has since extended that deadline. However, he is also requiring that contractors have an employee willing to vouch for them or else they will be denied access. Musk’s requirement that Tesla employees put their reputation on the line will likely make it very difficult for the majority of contractors to obtain recommendations. After all, his email seems to imply that if a contractor’s performance is deemed unsatisfactory then it could impact the job of the employee who vouched for it." The full email from Elon over the weekend and obtained by Electrek, reads: "Please send a note to HR before Monday justifying the excellence, necessity and trustworthiness by individual (not just the contractor company as a whole) of every non-Tesla person who has badge access to our buildings or network access to our systems. By default, anyone who does not have a Tesla employee putting their reputation on the line for them will be denied access to our facilities and networks on Monday morning. This applies worldwide. The "barnacles" are a reference to Tesla contractors, an analogy Musk first used publicly in the May 2 earnings call. Now Tesla employees are being asked to put their own careers on the line to justify any contractors they need." TESLA SOLAR ROOF PATENT REVEALS THE SCIENCE BEHIND ITS STUNNING DESIGN We love a bit of Solar chat, and on Inverse.com they've been talking about the Tesla Solar roof. Why does the Tesla Solar Roof look just like a normal roof? How do they not look like traditional panels? Inverse report: "One of the most fascinating aspects of Tesla’s solar roof, which started reaching homes earlier this year, is that it looks like an ordinary roof. The design hides advanced energy-harvesting cells wired to a home battery, and a new patent application published last week by the United States Patent and Trademark Office sheds light on how the company pulled off the technical feat." Inverse continues: "Louvers inside the tiles act like blinds in a window. The light hitting the roof from the sky passes through, but from the street level the louvers block the sight of the cells and make the tile appear smooth. TESLA REGISTERS 5,009 NEW MODEL 3 VINS AS TSLA RETAKES $50B MARKET CAP On Twitter, Matthew Koloski (@mattk926) said: "#Tesla registered 5009 new #Model3 VINs. Highest VIN is 39263.". Simon at Teslarati point out: “Interacting with members of the r/TeslaMotors subreddit, Koloski noted that none of the new VINs represented dual-motor AWD variants of the Model 3. Over the course of the past few months, Tesla’s VIN registrations have been increasing in number. Exactly two weeks ago, Tesla registered 5,170 new Model 3 VINs — one of the largest batches yet. With this in mind, a production rate of 3,000-4,000 Model 3 per week is starting to seem feasible." MUSK BUYS $9.85 MILLION IN TESLA SHARES AFTER TAUNTING SHORTS Bloomberg have picked up: Elon Musk "bought about $9.85 million worth of Tesla shares on Monday, his biggest purchase since March 2017, according to a regulatory filing. Musk, 46, already was Tesla’s largest shareholder, with his stake now approaching 20 percent" He's also been taunting those betting against Tesla on Twitter saying: "“The sheer magnitude of short carnage will be unreal. If you’re short, I suggest tiptoeing quietly to the exit." FUTURE PROOFING THE OPEL BRAND IN AN ELECTRIC FUTURE Sarah Timmermans, the CEO of Opel Belgium, has been talking about the future of Opel now it's owned by PSA Groupe. In a conversation with Fleet Europe she outlined the challenges electric cars will bring: "We have announced to all our dealers across Europe that we need to change our way to market, that both we and our dealers need to adapt to the changing customer behaviour, and to the changing landscape – disruptions such as electric vehicles. We have clearly indicated that we are entirely technology-neutral. Everybody knows that we need to come down to 95 grams of CO2 emitted per km by 2020, and this is going to require a mix of powertrains. So we are working on electric vehicles, hybrids, hydrogen, along with petrol and diesel in their most ecological versions. Opel/Vauxhall will have 4 electrified car lines on the market by 2020, including the Grandland X PHEV and the next generation Corsa that will also be available as a fully electric vehicle. On top of this, every new passenger car line in Europe will get an electrified option – offering a BEV or a hybrid version alongside efficient internal combustion engine." BATTERY SHORTAGE INTERRUPTS HYUNDAI IONIQ ELECTRIC SALES Orders for the Ioniq Electric in Canada are currently on hold due to a global shortage of battery supply. A leaked memo to Hyundai dealers titled "18My Ioniq EV Short-Term Production Shortage" said: ""Due to a temporary global battery supply shortage, the sold order entry system for 18MY Ioniq EV will be closed effective immediately. The 19MY Ioniq EV will be opened at the same time to allow for pre-sale of 19My Ioniq EV, with deliveries beginning in July." According to Green Car Reports; "All this comes just before Hyundai is scheduled to release a long-range version of the Ioniq Electric with a bigger battery, slated to go 200 miles or more on a charge. The current Ioniq Electric comes with a single battery size with a rated range of 124 miles. Further, the Hyundai Motor America spokesman allowed that the battery shortage may affect production of Hyundai's upcoming Kona Electric, which is expected to go on sale toward the end of this year with a 64-kwh battery pack rated at 238 miles of range." WHOLE FOODS BEGINS INSTALLING EV CHARGERS AT STORES "Whole Foods has announced a partnership with electric vehicle charging company Blink to begin installing the EV charge points at its US stores" starting with three stores in Pennsylvania say Autoguide: "Blink charging stations can be located using the company’s smartphone app. The app can also relay information on the charge point’s status thanks to Blink’s cloud-based network. The charging stations are now open at Whole Foods’ locations in Lancaster, Spring House and Exton, Pennsylvania." NEW BATTERY LAYOUT AND MOTOR COMPONENTS IN HYUNDAI / KIA ELECTRIC VEHICLES. Something I found on the Hyundai IONIQ forum, the Hyundai Kona and Kia Niro are similar but different. "These two cars have the same battery capacity, the same battery pack case, the same motor and electronics. But it seems the two cars have very different battery cells. The Kona EV has NCM622 cells from LG Chem that are optimized more for power density. The Niro EV has NCM811 cells from SK Innovation that are optimized more for energy density. The Niro EV is more of a family car - bigger more comfortable - but the acceleration output through the battery management system (BMS) control is relatively low. The Kona EV cells however allow higher-powered driving. Its body is also smaller, and its agility excellent, which is an advantage for sports driving. In the end, it is analysed that Niro EV is beneficial to achieve stable driving performance and Kona EV has advantages in higher-powered driving." I’d love to spread the word about electric cars so, if you can, share this somebody who might be interested. Nu är vi tillbaka! Vi pratar om småskaliga DC-nät, batterier, Tesla solar roof, optimerare, solcellsekonomi och om våra jobb m.m... och blir det solceller på Pers hus?... och vad är det för ny farkost Marcus färdas på till jobbet?
There's no doubt in my mind that the home of the future will be solar powered. Intuitively it would be great if the roofing material provided that solar power. But historically it's been a challenge to combine efficient solar cells with a durable roofing material at an affordable price. Tesla's new solar roof tiles hope to solve these challenges. Without a doubt Tesla's solar tiles are the best looking solar roofing products I have seen. Using Tesla's solar roof calculator and information for a 2,000 square foot home in California with a 2,500 square foot roof and $200 monthly electric bill, here is how their roofing tiles compare to an ordinary rooftop solar panel installation: Tesla Roof Tiles Ordinary Solar Panels Up front cost $58,500 $17,556 Tax credit $7,020 $5,267 Net cost $51,480 $12,289 Annual savings $2,002 $1,997 Simple payback (years) 26 6.2 Of course I expect the cost for Tesla roof tile installations to come down in the future, so their economics are likely to improve. Nevertheless, at these high prices it is clear to me that Tesla really has a product that only makes sense for new construction on high end homes. For the average homeowner considering solar, by far the best choice is a traditional rooftop solar power system. For more about Tesla's solar roof tiles, Listen Up to this week's Energy Show on Renewable Energy World.
We take a long, hard look at the new Amazon Echo Show, and try to determine if it's the kind of thing we would ever consider actually buying. Considering all of the different things it does, the Wi-Fi security camera integration seems like it's perhaps the best feature of the device. We also talk about the pricing of the Tesla Solar Roof, and try to comprehend if it makes any sense at all to buy.
