Psalm 104 The Lord's Majesty (Part 7)Psalm 104:27-30 “All the creatures wait expectantly for you to give them their food as you determine. You come near and they all gather around, feasting from your open hands, and each is satisfied from your abundant supply. But if you were to withhold from them and turn away, they all would panic. And when you choose to take away their breath, each one dies and returns to the dust When you release your Spirit-Wind, life is created, ready to replenish life upon the earth.”The Psalms are so beautiful. If you have always wanted to start reading the Bible but have no idea where to start, may I suggest the Psalms? In today's verse, we hear about how the creatures wait expectantly for God to give them their food. It says they all gather around Him and feast from His open hand. Every one of them is satisfied with God's abundant supply. There are a couple of things just in the first few sentences.First, it says all the creatures wait expectantly for God to give them their food. Are we included in this? I mean, it does say “all the creatures.” Yet, are we waiting expectantly? Do we know for sure that God will provide all that we need? I think sometimes we pray, and yet we don't expect to see results because we aren't really sure results are even possible. For instance, Yesterday I prayed over a woman who has breast cancer. She is starting chemo today. I wonder if she expected to be healed when we prayed over here. I wonder if she was expecting big things. I know with cancer it is hard to test out and see if you are healed. You usually won't notice anything until you go to a doctor's when they do some test. I wonder if that makes it hard to have expectant faith.When I first started praying over people for physical healing, I thought I had expectant faith, yet I was afraid to ask people how they were feeling or if they were feeling any manifestations of the Holy Spirit. I was scared to ask because I wasn't sure what to do if they said no. Since taking the Encounter Ministries class, I learned that often the miracle doesn't take place until the person steps out in faith an tests to see if they still have pain or if they could do something now that they couldn't do before. Like in the story of the man with the withered hand. This story can be found in 3 out of the 4 Gospels. I will read the account from Luke's Gospel. This takes place in Luke 6:6-11.“ On another sabbath, he entered the synagogue and taught, and there was a man there whose right hand was withered. The scribes and the Pharisees watched him to see whether he would cure on the sabbath so that they might find an accusation against him. 8 Even though he knew what they were thinking, he said to the man who had the withered hand, “Come and stand here.” He got up and stood there. Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the sabbath, to save life or to destroy it?”  After looking around at all of them, he said to him, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and his hand was restored.  But they were filled with fury and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.”The man's hand was restored after he stretched it out. He had to have expectant faith to stretch out his hand. Jesus had to have expectant faith to ask the man to stretch out his hand. We need to have expectant faith, too. It is not just about healing, although that is important, it's about everything. We need to expect that God will provide for us just like He does the other creatures. We need to come to Him believing that He will answer our prayers and He will provide all we need.Next, it says, "They all gather around, feasting from your open hands, and each is satisfied from your abundant supply.” I like this sentence for two reasons. The first is because it says they were feasting from God's open hand. Can you picture that? Can you picture being so close to the Lord that you are eating out of His open hands? That would be amazing!! I also love when it says that each is satisfied from your abundant supply. We tend to have a scarcity mindset. We think that there is not enough to go around. We worry there won't be enough money to pay all the bills. We worry there won't be enough food for all the people. We worry if we ask God for something small He won't have anything left for something big when it comes along.However, this verse reminds us that God is one of abundance. He has more than enough of everything we need for each one of us. He has more than enough provisions, more than enough love, more than enough grace, more than enough mercy. God has more than enough. Don't be afraid to come to Him with expectant faith and ask Him for whatever it is. The next part talks about how God has the power to take life away and the power to give life. The verse says that if God were to turn away from the creatures, they would panic. Is this us, too? Do we panic when we think God has turned away from us? God never leaves us. He doesn't turn away from us, even when we deserve it. He doesn't turn away from us when we turn away from Him. He waits with open arms waiting for us to turn back to Him. We don't have to worry about Him turning away from us.It is amazing to think about how He can release His Spirit-Wind, and life is created, ready to replenish life upon the earth. God is so powerful. When I think about this it makes me wonder why we question the abundance of God. This is someone who can speak the whole universe into existence. Surely He can give you whatever it is you need. Can we practice coming to the Lord with expectant faith today?Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless everyone listening to this episode. Lord, we love you and we ask you to help us develop expectant faith. We ask that you help us believe you are a God of abundance and we don't have to worry that you don't have enough because you have more than we could ever need. We love you Lord and we thank you for always being there for us. God's Anger Was Kindled On My Behalf!Psalm 18:7-10 “The earth itself shivered and shook. It reeled and rocked before him. As the mountains trembled, they melted away, for his anger was kindled on my behalf! Fierce flames leapt from his mouth, erupting with blazing, burning coals as smoke and fire encircled him. He stretched heaven's curtain open and came to my defense. Swiftly he rode to earth as the stormy sky was lowered. He rode a chariot of thunderclouds amidst thick darkness; his steed was a cherub, soaring on outstretched wings of Spirit-Wind.”In the last two episodes, I talked about Psalm 18. I explained that God is our rock and that we call on Him when we are in a time of need, and He is there for us. Yesterday, we talked about how our cries go right up to heaven and pierce the Lord's heart. Today we are talking about how He responds to that cry.The first line says, “The earth itself shivered and shook. It reeled and rocked before Him. As the mountains trembled, they melted away, for His anger was kindled on my behalf!” Can you imagine that? Close your eyes and imagine the whole earth shaking and shivering. Imagine the mountains trembling and then just melting away. Can you picture it? Now, imagine that all happened just because you cried out to the Lord. His anger was kindled on your behalf. There are billions of people on this earth, and the Lord hopped in a chariot of thunderclouds because you cried out to Him. That is pretty amazing!I think the fact that the Lord cares for each one of us individually escapes us a lot of the time. We think of how big God is and how many people there are in the world, and we think that God loves us in a general way. Kind of like how a priest might say he loves his parishioners. He probably does love the people who attend the church. He would also probably help anyone that came and asked for it. However, the priest probably does not know every detail of every person's life. This is how we can think of God sometimes. Yes, He loves us. He is our heavenly Father, and also, he has billions of children, so he can't possibly know me personally. The reason we think this way is because the reality of God is so far beyond anything our mind can comprehend. His vastness is too much for us to understand truly.God created you. He knit you together in your mother's womb. (Psalm 139:13) He knows every hair on your head. God acts for each one of us at the same time. He can be solving your problem at the same time He is helping someone else on the other side of the world. He is not bound by the same things we are. He doesn't have to obey the rules around time and space. He made time and space. There was nothing before God; He created all of it, so He is in control of all of it.One line in the verse above that I really like is the one that says, “He stretched heaven's curtain open and came to my defense.” I like this because it gives me a good visual. The whole verse is pretty easy to visualize, actually. It is a pretty descriptive verse today. However, I love thinking about there being a curtain to Heaven. Kinda like in Wizard of Oz, when the Great OZ was behind a curtain. I like to think of a curtain that God can just pull back to come to our defense. It's not a wall, it's not a door, it's a curtain. A curtain isn't hard to pull back. It isn't hard to get through. A curtain provides pretty easy access.I have never seen God, but I like the thought of Him getting so angry on my behalf that he would do half the things listed in the verse above. I think this verse shows us how powerful our prayers are. We call out to God, and He acts on our behalf. This is also a good reminder that we don't have to seek revenge; we can turn that over to God, and He will do what is right. God knows all that is going on in our lives. He knows all that has gone on in the past. He knows when someone offends us or does something bad to us. It angers Him when His children are hurt or mistreated. All we need to do is call out to the Lord, and He will come to our assistance.This verse is a great reminder that we can call on the Lord and that He responds. It is a great reminder that He cares about each of us individually. Yes, God loves us all, and also He loves each one of us. He cares about all the little things in our lives. He knows all about those things you didn't want Him to know about. He saw that thing that happened to you that you were too ashamed to tell Him about. He sees you, and He loves you. He wants to be there for you. He wants to take care of you. He just needs you to let Him. He just needs you to cry out to Him, and He will come running! That is how much God loves you! I will reread the verses above again. Close your eyes and imagine the verse is talking about you and what God is doing for you.“The earth itself shivered and shook. It reeled and rocked before him. Lord, we thank you for caring about us so much. We thank you for getting upset when we are wronged in some way. We thank you for responding so immediately at times. We thank you for responding so individually. Lord, we ask you to remind us to call out to you. We ask you to give us the strength when we don't have it. We love you, Lord, and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus' holy name, Amen!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. Today's meditation is based on Psalm 18 I love the Lord and I'm bonded to him. He is my strength. He is the bedrock beneath my feet, my faith-fortress, my wonderful deliverer, my God, my rock of rescue where none can reach me. He is the shield around me, the mighty power that saves me, and my high place. All I need to do is to call on my Lord, the praiseworthy God. When I do, I'm safe and sound in him — delivered from my foes! Even if the cords of death wrap around me and torrents of destruction threaten to overwhelm me, taking me to death's door, I will cry out in my distress to the delivering God, and from his temple-throne he will hear my troubled cry, my sobs going right into his heart. He will stretch heaven's curtain open and come to my defense. Swiftly he will ride to earth as the storm-sky is lowered. My God rides on a chariot of thunderclouds amidst thick darkness; his steed is a cherub, soaring on the outstretched wings of Spirit-Wind. Wrapped in the thick-cloud darkness, his thunder-tabernacle surrounds him. He hides himself in mystery-darkness; the dense rain clouds are his garments. The brilliance of his presence suddenly breaks through with lightning bolts and hail—a tempest dropping coals of fire. The Lord thunders; the great God above every god speaks with his thunder-voice from the sky. The Most High utters his voice! He releases his lightning-arrows, and routes my foes. See how they run and scatter in fear! Then with his mighty roar he lays bare the foundations of the earth, uncovering the secret source of the sea. Exposing the hidden depths of land and sea by the blast of his hot breath. He rescued me from the mighty waters. He reached all the way from sky to sea and pulled me out of the ocean of hate, the enemy chaos, the void in which I was drowning, and drew me to himself! Even though I was helpless in the hands of my hateful, strong enemy, my God was good to deliver me. He stood me up in a wide-open field; I stood there saved--surprised to be loved. He rescued me—because his delight is in me!  God made my life complete when I placed all the pieces before him. He gave me a fresh start. So now I'm alert to God's ways and don't take him for granted. I keep my eyes focused on his righteous words, and I obey everything that he tells me to do. I've been found blameless before him and follow all his ways, keeping my heart pure. God rewrote the text of my life when I opened the book of my heart to his eyes. And so God rewards me according to my righteousness in Christ Jesus. I have tasted his goodness. I am loyal to him and he loves to prove that he is loyal and true.  He is always pure. I am humbled that he would bring heaven's deliverance to me. God, all at once turned on a floodlight for me! He is the revelation-light in my darkness, and in his brightness I can see the path ahead. I'm blazing with glory -- God's glory! With God as my strength I can crush an enemy horde, advancing through every stronghold that stands in front of me. What a perfect God he is. All of his promises have proven true. He is my secure shelter. I turn to hide myself in him, the wraparound God. Could there be any other god like my God? For there is not a more secure foundation. God has wrapped me in power and made my way perfect. Through God, I ascend to the highest peaks to stand strong and secure in him. He has trained me with the weapons of warfare-worship; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. He protects me with salvation-armor and empowers me for victory with his wraparound presence. By stooping down in gentleness, he made me great. God has set me free, and now I'm standing complete, ready to fight some more! I catch up with my enemies and conquer them and don't turn back until the war is won!  God has placed his armor upon me and made my enemies bow low. He made them all turn tail and run. He gives me victory on every side.  I lift my praise to the unshakable God! Towering over all, my Savior-God is worthy to be praised! He pays back all who harm me, and subdues all who come against me. He rescues me from my enemies; he lifts me up high and keeps me out of reach, far from the grasp of my violent foe. So I thank God with my praises! I will sing my song to the highest God, so all among the nations will hear me. He has given me great victories. He has always been tender and kind to me, his anointed one, his loving servant. But don't view this wonderful freedom as an opportunity to set up a base of operations in the natural realm. Freedom means that we become so completely free of self-indulgence that we become servants of one another, expressing love in all we do. 14 For love completes the laws of God. All of the law can be summarized in one grand statement: “Demonstrate love to your neighbor, even as you care for and love yourself.”[c] 15 But if you continue to criticize and come against each other over minor issues, you're acting like wild beasts trying to destroy one another![d] The Holy Spirit, Our Victory 16 As you yield freely and fully to the dynamic life and power of the Holy Spirit, you will abandon the cravings of your self - life.[e] 17 For your self - life craves the things that offend the Holy Spirit and hinder him from living free within you! And the Holy Spirit's intense cravings hinder your old self - life from dominating you! So then, the two incompatible and conflicting forces within you are your self - life of the flesh and the new creation life of the Spirit.[f] 18 But when you are brought into the full freedom of the Spirit[g] of grace, you will no longer be living under the domination of the law, but soaring above it! 19 The cravings of the self-life are obvious: Sexual immorality, lustful thoughts, pornography, 20 chasing after things instead of God,[h] manipulating others,[i] hatred of those who get in your way, senseless arguments, resentment when others are favored, temper tantrums, angry quarrels, only thinking of yourself, being in love with your own opinions, 21 being envious of the blessings of others, murder, uncontrolled addictions,[j] wild parties, and all other similar behavior. Haven't I already warned you that those who use their “freedom” for these things[k] will not inherit the kingdom realm of God! 22–23 But the fruit[l] produced by the Holy Spirit within you is divine love in all its varied expressions:[m] joy that overflows,[n] peace that subdues, patience[o] that endures, kindness[p] in action, a life full of virtue,[q] faith that prevails, gentleness of heart, and strength of spirit.[r] Never set the law above these qualities, for they are meant to be limitless.[s]   Footnotes Galatians 5:14 See Lev. 19:18. Galatians 5:22 The translator has chosen to supply action to these virtues, for they are not meant to be abstract virtues, but made visible with actions. Galatians 5:22 The Greek word for patience is taken from a verb that means “ever tapping” or “never quitting.” Galatians 5:22 The Aramaic word can be translated “sweetness.” Galatians 5:22 Or “goodness.” Galatians 5:22 Although the word self is not found in this verse, most translations render this as “self-control.” The word is actually “lordship,” or by implication “spirit-strength.” Galatians 5:22 Literally “there is no law set against these things” or “there is no conflict with Jewish laws.”
