Welcome back to Watch With Jen. Just in time for the fifth anniversary of the podcast (which officially began on March 3, 2020), I'm releasing the first of at least a two-part episode devoted to L.A. Movies. Like everyone else, I watched in horror as the Santa Ana wind wildfires ripped through a city that I dearly love at the start of 2025. Unable to contribute financially to the many worthy charities and Go Fund Me accounts that were launched in its wake, nor volunteer on the ground from where I live in Phoenix, I figured the next best thing that I could do was to pay tribute to some of the wonderfully rich, diverse, & creatively inspiring films that have been made in the city. My earnest hope is that it might inspire more productions to shoot there in the future (which would bring necessary jobs back to L.A.) and also to give listeners a nice little reprieve from the stresses of this impossibly difficult year. Each week has felt like its own horror movie for so many people in my orbit, including myself. Our inaugural episode for season six features a staggeringly great lineup of artists & film minds. You'll hear from CALIFORNIA BEAR author Duane Swierczynski on JACKIE BROWN, Senior Vice President of The Black List Kate Hagen on MIRACLE MILE, film critic and UC Denver professor Walter Chaw on THE DRIVER & HICKEY & BOGGS, and WHO INVITED THEM filmmaker and author Duncan Birmingham on SWINGERS. A feature length tour of Los Angeles in the movies, I hope you enjoy the launch of Season 6. And as we head into my favorite season, perhaps it'll inspire you to get ready to visit the City of Angels again or at the very least, eagerly anticipate the second part of these talks which wander into Lynchian and Friedkin territory. Thank you so much for joining me these past five years; we'll be hitting the 250th episode of the podcast this season which is mind-boggling to me & I couldn't do it without your support.Originally Posted on Patreon (3/3/25) here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/123479696Theme Music: Solo Acoustic Guitar by Jason Shaw, Free Music Archive Shop Watch With Jen logo Merchandise in Logo Designer Kate Gabrielle's Threadless Shop (+ Direct Link to the Mug) Donate to the Pod via Ko-fi

God has chosen to work through you! As you willingly give yourself to Jesus, you will fulfill the Great Commission, reach the lost, and serve the multitudes!

Isaiah 63 speaks about the Spirit of God, who faithfully watches over His people. "In all their distress, he too was distressed" (v. 9). When our hearts are troubled, we must (1) trust in the Spirit's unceasing support; (2) trust in the Spirit's constant presence. Be strengthened in your faith as you listen to this encouraging word by Pastor Bobby Chaw.
Remembering God plays an important role in the life of a believer and in the Church. This is especially true when we feel downcast and discouraged. In this sermon, Pastor Bobby Chaw shares three things believers can do to remember God: 1) Keep Telling His Stories. 2)Keep Singing His Songs. 3) Keep Praying His Name.As we do so, we will experience God's miraculous intervention in our lives!

Luke 5 recounts a remarkable moment when Jesus was teaching in a place packed to full capacity. Undeterred by the crowd, four men lowered their paralytic friend through the roof to reach Jesus; and he was gloriously healed to everyone's amazement. To encounter the presence and power of Jesus, we must possess unyielding love and compassion, unwavering hope that confesses God's promises, and persistent faith that never gives up. In doing so, may we be instrumental in unleashing Jesus' healing power to those around us.

When a race begins, the race car driver will accelerate to full speed and for the rest of the race will “never lift” his foot off the gas pedal. That is how the Holy Spirit is in our lives, pouring out His grace and mercy—and He will “never lift”! As believers, we sometimes don't feel the presence of God when we experience trials and tests of faith. Yet, we have the confidence of knowing that our God will always see us through. He never lifts!

From records of the Bible and church history, everyone who had ever walked closely with God had made prayer the top priority of their lives. Prayer must be our priority because it brings us into a continuous communion with God. As we commit ourselves to a life of prayer, we will see Jesus redeeming our lives because prayer is effective and creative. Let the redeemed of the LORD say so!

This is the season of Advent, which reminds us that Jesus is coming! When Jesus promised to "come to" the disciples, He was referring to three things — His resurrection, the Holy Spirit, and His Second Coming — the same three things that will empower us with faith and hope to overcome our most severe troubles.
Note: We're doing something new this season on Watch With Jen. Usually, I release our end-of-the-year Physical Media conversations across multiple episodes. But in '22, some listeners said they found it slightly confusing to see similar titles a few times in a row & they'd rather have a marathon installment instead so we're trying it in '23 with a supersized, superstar-filled episode. Additionally, rather than ending the season on Physical Media as we've done in the past, this year, you'll still receive a few more outstanding eps after this week's release. (Oh, & if you wondered why I didn't upload a new pod last week, it's because I was researching & recording all of these wonderful conversations!)Clocking in at nearly 3 hours, this episode includes Walter Chaw on Walter Hill's 1979 film THE WARRIORS, Bilge Ebiri on Terrence Malick's DAYS OF HEAVEN, William Boyle, S.A. Cosby, & Sean Burns on Brian De Palma's CARLITO'S WAY, & Nikki Dolson on William Wyler's THE DESPERATE HOURS. In our in-depth conversation with him on the 3DPOD, we explore the nuances of Singapore's ecosystem and discuss strategies to foster additive manufacturing in various countries. We delve into what Singapore excels at in this field, along with its future aspirations. The dialogue also examines the potential impact of 3D printing on Singapore, a trade-centric entrepôt. Our discussion offers both detailed insights into key areas and a broader, helicopter view of the steps needed to advance 3D printing further. It's an engaging talk that we believe you'll find enjoyable!

I was inspired to get into real estate investing from my grandpa who bought a couple properties in the SF Bay area when they were dirt cheap. He was able to retire early and help fund part of my and my brother's college tuition. When I graduated as a Pharmacist in 2016, I wanted to buy as much real estate as possible. I ended up buying one a year until I had 6 properties and became a millionaire with 6 figures in cash flow. I expanded to out of state investing and typically make $2,500/month in cash flow on a property I bought for $210,000. Now I teach others my room hacking system which typically doubles or triples your rental income on a property.. Quinnipiac University started its men's hockey program in 1975 and hired its current coach, Rand Pecknold, in 1994. In this episode, The Tenth Second host Keith Woodward talks with Rand, along with Billy Mecca, senior associate athletic director, and Bobby Lucarelli, the first captain under Rand's leadership. They talk about Rand's interview process back in 1994, which happened during the summer, in an office with no AC, with Burt Khan, the athletic director, and Burt's dog, along with his spittoon -- the athletic director's, not the dog's. Quinnipiac was looking to find a coach to take over a team that won only 26 games in the previous five years, which is a nice way of saying that the team lost 82 games during that time. All episodes begin with Quinnipiac Student Matt Mungo's call on the Quinnipiac Bobcat Sports Network of the National Championship goal. Thanks to QBSN for letting us use this audio. The Tenth Second is a production of the Quinnipiac University Podcast Studio, and is hosted by Keith Woodward, the university's director of facilities.
