Video link: https://youtu.be/Kk_h_83qfLg Highlight: What to use the group ride for (besides the social fun!) Some thing you can improve on by using the group ride Using other riders as a litmus Bonus Tip! Kudos if you're on a ride where you can get dropped. It shows that you're trying to grow as a cyclist and not just show up to be top dog. What are you trying to improve on during the ride. Just hanging on to get dropped is not the best use of your time. I would pinpoint the section where you get dropped and how can you improve here? Save your energy FOR the big effort of the ride that you are keyed into do less if possible on the initial rollers. Don't close gaps for anyone Ride in the best draft possible Avoid the high outputs where possible. THESE THINGS MATTER. Find riders to use as a litmus: ranking yourself off the best rider there might be unrealistic. Save it for the BIG effort. the more z1 on this ride, the BETTER. I'd like to use this more as a race scenario than just a group ride. I understand that there is motivation to go hard when riding with a group, but we also want to use this to increase your power; dont just blast yourself early for the sake of it; utilize this to see how you hold strength versus others as the ride progresses…… i'm not seeing that happening right now. compare performance in terms of watts and litmus ranking after each ride…okay if did lower watts but better position, what happened that ride (better drafting, smarter attacks, no wasted matches)….higher watts and worse position. we all get MOTIVATEd by the gruop, so let's use that to our advantage Please subscribe and tell a friend. Hello, listener/friend! Thanks for tuning in to another episode of One on Lund hosted by me, Nathan Lund. This latest installment features my good friend Kevin O'Brien! Ol' Kev was one of the first people I met after moving to Denver in 2008, and he remains one of my closest buds. Kevin hosted one of Denver's best comedy shows, Arguments & Grievances, and he co-hosted a fantastic podcast called "These Things Matter" with Taylor Gonda. Kevin and fellow comedian Mara Wiles moved to New York City in March of 2017 but they left a lasting impression in Denver's hearts. I hope you enjoy listening to me and Ol' Kev as we look back on our time together in the Mile High, living and loving and belting out pop-punk lyrics. Be sure to email me at OneonLund@gmail dot com with feedback, questions, etc and thanks for tuning in! One on Lund is a painfully personal podcast featuring Denver Comedy Champion Nathan Lund. Nathan has performed the glorious art of stand up comedy for 14 years and has finally ventured into the wide world of podcasting. Join him as he shares his opinions on comedy, life, and all things under the sun. Eternal thanks to Sexpot Comedy and producer extraordinaire Wally Wallace. Big huge thanks to Mutiny Information Cafe and to Rachel Weeks for the One on Lund logos.
We keep it tight with our first guest, Taylor Gonda, the co-host of the podcast These Things Matter. This episode, we talk about cover songs, the death of Paul McCartney, the life of the party Diamond David Lee Roth and more. Spotify Playlist HERE.
Another member of the Gonda clan has been added to the These Things Matter roster! Join Larry Gonda, aka: Taylor's dad, as he talks about The Who. Well, The Who, high school in the 70s, canned hams, being a dad in the 80s, and *gasp* marijuana!
These Things Matter was delighted when our pals at Buntport Theater asked us to chat with them about Greek Mythology - the through-line of their current theatrical season. We talked to Hannah Duggan, Brian Colonna, Erin Rollman, Erik Edborg, and Samantha Schmitz about myths, mortals and monsters, and perhaps a little Bill and Ted's Exellent adventure thrown in for good measure. Be sure to check out their new season at www.buntport.com!
Episode 88: So far, 2016 has been rough year for anglophiles. We've lost Lemmy and David Bowie and Alan Rickman already, and it's not even February. The outpouring of grief and nostalgia and admiration over the last few weeks has been overwhelming but still inspiring—it's clear that England still has an immense influence on American culture. When news of David Bowie's death hit social media, this week's storyteller, Taylor Gonda, was the first person who came to mind. People were reaching out to her on Facebook as if Bowie were a biological uncle, and with good reason—time and time again, Taylor has proven her love for all things living in the shadow of the Union Jack. She's a long-time favorite of The Narrators—but you may know her best as co-host of These Things Matter, the greatest pop culture podcast in all the land. Taylor's story was recorded on 17 September 2014 at Buntport Theater in Denver, Colorado. The theme of the evening was "Schooled." Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Rarely on These Things Matter do we get to hear a guest's entire life story, but on today's episode with comedian and podcaster Zac Maas, We hear that and more! How does a smart-ass white kid from South Dakota start spitting science? Aesop Rock is your answer. Him and Atmosphere, El-P, RJD2, Blackalicious, The Coup, Mos Def, MF Doom, etc, etc, etc. The more poetic side of hip hop. The more thoughtful and political side. That's what we're chatting about today.
Ah, August. Ah, Summer. Ah, South Broadway. In Denver, all these things mean it's time for the High Plains Comedy Festival! These Things Matter has been a part of the fun for all three years, and we've moved on up every time. Year one, we were in Mutiny Cafe, performing for a crowd that was not quite sure what they were watching. Year two, we blew the roof and the Satanism outta Trve brewery. Year three, featured on this episode, we were fortunate enough to have the show in the best venue in town, the Hi-Dive. Our topic was "Comedy Movie MVP" and with our guests, Karen Kilgariff, Jay Larson, Jonah Ray and Ron Funches, we discuss who brings it in comedies on the silver screen. Who's got the best batting average, comedy movie-wise? And how many other sports references can we throw in to the mix?
This week we have the Nebraska born & bred, pop-culture extraordinaire, Denver comedy favorite, Kevin O'Brien! This episode continues the epic love story that Mara Wiles tells on her EG episode. We talk about pro-active fighting in relationships, learning to communicate & how to make a power-couple function on the day-to-day. Catch more of Kevin on his award winning podcast These Things Matter with Taylor Gonda as well as his monthly comedy debate show Arguments & Grievances and all over the Denver comedy scene including Comedy Works, Too Much Fun, Mile High Sci-Fi, and more. Episode 29: The theme for our October show, "Two Sides to Every Story", provided an opportunity for a little bit of experimentation. We thought it might be fun to explore the nature of truth in true storytelling by looking at an age old adage, that there are two sides to every story. We invited pairs of storytellers to tell their versions of a shared experience or story. We were hoping to dig into what makes a story a story, what we can learn by looking in between the gaps, etc. We sequestered the storytellers while their counterparts were telling their version, so that what the audience got was free from influence. It was pretty danged cool. Part 1 of the show features true stories from podcaster, producer, and gadabout Taylor Gonda (whose podcast These Things Matter is essential listening for pop culture nerds) and writer Josiah Hesse. These stories were recorded at The Deer Pile on October 17th, 2013 by our good friends at The Denver Diatribe. The intro and outro music was produced and graciously provided by Sans Seruf, and you can find more slick beats for your earholes over at his bandcamp page. Learn more about your ad choices.
