Host: Kate Brownfield, Certified Whole Person & ADHD Parent Coach Guest: Dr. Kate Lund, clinical psychologist, peak performance coach, TEDx speaker, and author of Step Away: The Keys to Resilient Parenting Episode Overview In this empowering “Kate + Kate” episode, Kate talks with Dr. Kate Lund about what resilient parenting really looks like when you're raising kids with ADHD, big emotions, or health challenges. Drawing from her own medical journey (hydrocephalus as a child), 20+ years as a psychologist, and parenting 18-year-old twins, Dr. Lund explains resilience not as “pushing through,” but as a lifestyle: managing your stress response daily so you can ride the waves of homework battles, morning chaos, and dysregulated kids. She teaches a simple, science-backed tool, the Relaxation Response, that parents can practice for 5 minutes in the morning and at night to lower reactivity, model calmness, and create a more regulated home. Suppose your baseline feels higher than that of other parents because your child is more intense or more dysregulated. In that case, this episode will help you stop comparing, honor your unique context, and build steadiness that you can actually sustain.

The Oxford history of Italy, Oxford Univ.
Past awards include the Howard Bowers Cooperative Service Award from the Consumer Cooperative Managers Association, and the 2014 John Logue Award for "acting as a catalyst for innovation and change" from the Association of Cooperative Educators. Alice Paris has dedicated her life to cooperative agriculture and land justice. As one of the founding staff of the Rural Training & Research Center in Epes, Alabama, she and her husband, George, along with Wendell Paris, John and Carol Zippert, and Jim Jones, helped establish the center by living on site, contributing part of her salary, and even working in construction during its early years. In 1970, she joined an FSC/LAF delegation to Israel to study vegetable production and cooperative marketing systems, an experience that shaped her decades of service with the Federation of Southern Cooperatives/Land Assistance Fund. Throughout her work with the Federation, she demonstrated both a commitment to advancing its mission and a respect for its legacy, forming a close bond with leaders such as Estelle Witherspoon. In 2001, Alice brought her expertise to Tuskegee University as a project coordinator, where she continued empowering rural communities until her retirement in 2014. For her lifelong dedication and personification of cooperative values, Estelle Witherspoon was posthumously inducted into the Cooperative Hall of Fame on October 9 in Washington, DC. Vært: Frederik Vincent (frederik.vincent@borsen.dk)

Sometimes you just gotta vent for a minute. Or, well, a minute and 12 seconds. ("Orwell." Ha.) Perhaps you know the original. The parody was dreamed up (i.e., waking-nightmared up) by Spaff, and all the music and vocals were performed by Robert Lund. Both of whom, by the time you read this, will probably have been deported to Uganda. Hopefully the capital has an Abbey Road.

Disappointment. Rejection. Failing to meet their goals. It's so tough to watch our kids struggle when they're feeling the discomfort of disappointment. I often call myself “a fixer in recovery that QUITE often relapses”. I have a joy agenda for the people I love. Sometimes my own discomfort over their discomfort leads to a relapse. I jump into full on fixer mode and forget that the growth mostly happens because of the messy human moments. Pain and uncertainty are as much a part of the human experience as success and happiness. It's called the Law of Polarity. Life involves both the good and the bad. What if the real goal of parenting is to help our kiddos build resilience, so they can handle the hard things without losing hope?My guest this time thinks so, and I think she's onto something huge. Dr. Kate Lund is an expert on how to build resilience in ourselves and our kids. Her experience of growing up in a supportive family helped her deal with a painful chronic illness. Now, she teaches parents how to model resilience and prepare kids to navigate the world with confidence.Something clicked while listening? We'd love to talk with you if you want to dig deeper into your family's specific situation. Golden Lund holds three degrees in music from the University of Utah, Indiana University and the University of Nebraska. He is currently a music instructor at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa, where he helps direct the marching band, pep band, and teaches tuba and other brass instruments. He also performs regularly on the tuba with a semi-professional orchestra in Lincoln, Nebraska. Golden was recently released as a bishop and served in several leadership capacities previously including elders quorum president, high priest group leader, Young Men president, and on his stake high council. Golden and his wife Sandy have been married for 17 years and are the proud parents of two children—a daughter and son who are 12-year-old twins and amaze them every day. Links Transcript available with the video in the Zion Lab community Highlights In this episode of the Leading Saints podcast, Kurt interviews Golden, a former bishop from Bettendorf, Iowa, who shares his experiences and insights from his five-year tenure in leadership during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic. The conversation focuses on mental health, vulnerability in leadership, and the importance of community support. Key Insights: Mental Health Awareness: Golden discusses his struggles with mental health, particularly during a significant crash after a year and a half of service. He emphasizes the importance of seeking help and the positive impact of counseling and medication. Vulnerability in Leadership: By sharing his personal challenges with his ward, Golden fostered a culture of openness, encouraging others to share their struggles and creating a supportive environment. The Sariah Factor: Golden introduces the concept of the Sariah Factor, highlighting the need for leaders to trust their perspective and discernment, even when others may not understand the decisions being made. Delegation and Empowerment: He shares how he empowered his ward leaders, such as the Relief Society and Elders Quorum presidents, to take on responsibilities, which helped alleviate his workload and fostered a sense of ownership among leaders. Community Support: Golden underscores the importance of community, noting that members often overlook the challenges faced by their leaders. Simple expressions of gratitude can significantly uplift those in leadership roles. Leadership Applications: Encourage Open Communication: Leaders should create an environment where members feel comfortable sharing their struggles, which can strengthen community bonds and support. Prioritize Mental Health: Leaders should recognize the importance of mental health and seek help when needed, setting an example for others to do the same. Empower Others: By delegating responsibilities and trusting ward leaders, bishops can manage their workload more effectively while fostering leadership skills in others, ultimately benefiting the entire ward. 05:32 - Calling as Bishop During COVID-19 07:18 - Navigating Early Days as Bishop 08:58 - Demographics of the Ward 10:45 - Reflection on Serving as Bishop 11:19 - Responsibilities of a Bishop 15:43 - Challenges and Overwhelm in Leadership 17:00 - Mental Health Struggles and Support 20:05 - Finding Help and Guidance 21:57 - The Importance of Vulnerability in Leadership 30:02 - Opening Up to the Ward About Struggles 33:44 - The Sariah Factor in Leadership Decisions 38:21 - Examples of Leadership Challenges 49:02 - The Messiness of Revelation in Leadership 51:19 - Normalizing Struggles in Leadership The award-winning Leading Saints Podcast is one of the top independent Latter-day Saints podcasts as part of nonprofit Leading Saints' mission to help Latter-day Saints be better prepared to lead. This year we're kicking off Supervision September by focusing our supervisory efforts with a growing category of supervisees, individuals with disabilities. Because, for a field based on helping people, we don't always practice what we preach with our colleagues! We discuss the culture of disability in regards to humility in supervision as well as how to bring what other fields have learned to our own behavior analysis trainees. This episode is available for 1.0 SUPERVISION or 1.0 ETHICS/CULTURAL CEU. Articles discussed this episode: Andrews, E.E., Kuemmel, A., Williams, J.L., Pilarski, C.R., Dunn, M., & Lund, E.M. (2013).
