Elf Filme müsst Ihr sein: Wir wollen über Fußball reden. Also im Film. Und über Fußballfilme. Von GOAL über THE DAMNED UNITED, FUßBALL IST UNSER LEBEN bis hin zu SHAOLIN KICKERS oder DEUTSCHLAND - EIN SOMMERMÄRCHEN. Was gehört dazu? Allen voran: A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE. Macht's gut. Abpfiff. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Ryan, Bec and Justin conclude their discussion on 1962's "Girls! Girls! Girls!" losing their minds just a little bit at the twists, turns and amount of songs about fishing in the back half of the movie, but have a ton of fun discussing such famous scenes as "Return to Sender," "Song of the Shrimp" and "The Walls Have Ears" as well as pondering the deleted sequence "I Don't Want To." Ryan has to bow out for Song of the Week, but Bec pushes forward with the movie songs theme, making a case for "Animal Instinct" from 1965 "Harum Scarum". On the other hand, Justin spotlights the less-familiar "Girl of Mine" from the 1973 Stax sessions - which came from the pens of British songwriters more known for writing for Tom Jones and Englebert Humperdinck; so much so that Englebert himself did a version of this country-flavored pop ballad before Elvis! Justin, Ryan and Bec begin to unpack the 1962 Paramount rom-com "Girls! Girls! Girls!" starring Elvis, Laurel Goodwin, Stella Stevens, and Jeremy Slate, directed by Norman Taurog (his third Elvis picture) and written by Edward Anhalt from a story by Allan Weiss. It was filmed in Hawaii, but that's not where it was supposed to be set - and the last minute change (following the blowout success of "Blue Hawaii" at the box office just a few short months before filming) is clearly felt throughout. The crew take a look back to see how the movie holds up - an unusually strong soundtrack helps, but not everyone even agrees on that! Before that though, Justin subjects Ryan & Bec to a "Guess That Soundalike" challenge, whereby they'll have to guess which of 6 Elvis soundalikes is which based on short audio snippets. It's a ton of fun! Part 2 will be out next week; it's available in early access for TCBCast patrons! If you enjoy TCBCast, please consider supporting us with a donation at Patreon.com/TCBCast. Traditional Variety has been a lifelong fascination for poet and playwright Amanda Dalton. She grew up in a family that included several amateur and professional entertainers and from an early age the world of Variety Theatre was ‘in her blood'... During WW2, her dad organised and performed in a night of entertainment at King Farouk's palace in Cairo, She recalls her mum tap dancing in the kitchen as the dinner burnt. One of her most precious and prized possessions is a poster, retrieved from her uncle's home, for a variety show at the New Hippodrome, Darlington in 1938 - acts including Waldini's Famous Gypsy Band, Billy Brown Upside Down and his wonderful dog Lady and her uncle himself, Barry Phelps. With Idina Scott Gatty, Entertainer. As a child, Amanda never missed Sunday Night at the London Palladium or the Good Old Days on TV. Variety shows were her parents' favourites - her obsession with them is perhaps not surprising. The acts that have always most fascinated her are those ‘speciality' acts that disturb even as they entertain, designed to bamboozle the audience and mess with the mind. These essays will explore Amanda's relationship with the different kinds of acts that thrived as UK Variety emerged from the embers of Music Hall (1930s – 1950s). Listeners are introduced to some of the key performers, a fascinating collection of unusual and striking characters with extraordinary skills and showmanship. Essay 4: Girls! Girls! Girls! Women in Variety For today's essay, Amanda turns her attention to female variety acts including those frequently unnamed, scantily clad ‘glamorous assistants.' Built around the rediscovery of her mum's 1920s and 30s scrapbook which charts her ventures into the world of entertainment, Amanda considers the role and frequently disturbing representation of women in old Variety Theatre, and her own mum's journey through this landscape.Writer and reader, Amanda Dalton Producer, Polly Thomas Exec Producer, Eloise WhitmoreA Naked Production for BBC Radio 3.Biog Amanda Dalton is poet, playwright and essayist based in West Yorkshire. The Vinyl crew is here to listen to Motley Crue's fourth studio album 'Girls, Girls, Girls'. This 80s record reached No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200, sold over 4 million copies and received overwhelmingly positive reviews. Though the band put nearly no energy into making it, Mötley Crüe achieved its most substantial commercial success to date with “Theatre of Pain” (1985). That probably wasn't the best motivation to work harder on the follow-up, 1987's “Girls, Girls, Girls.” It doesn't mean the band was complacent. The opener, “Wild Side,” is an ominous, deep track illustrating an urban nightmare of drugs and violence, a clear indicator that the glossy, pop-metal sheen of “Theatre of Pain'' is a thing of the past. It's followed by “Girls, Girls, Girls,” the ultimate exercise in self-indulgence and maybe the greatest strip club anthem ever written. No pair of songs in the Mötley catalog describes the band better than this one. Girls, Girls, Girls continued Mötley Crüe's super stardom while becoming the band's third straight album to go quadruple platinum. Overall, it's an astute journal from a band that was having the time of their lives and just enjoying the ride—while simultaneously making great music. Heavy metal it's loud, in your face, and makes no apologies! For veteran rockers, Mötley Crüe a farewell tour in 2014 was the final chance to shout at the devil. They made sure their amplifiers could go to 11 and they'd leave no ears undamaged. Hear the story of the loudest concert I've ever attended. For more: yesterdaysconcert.com
Maybe its been a long time coming who knows. But for the first time in iHearU history we have an all female episode. So if thing sound a bit off blame the host lady of the episode. Depending on how this going we have a major announcement for you guys!
This episode continues our discussion about gender and parenting, talking through how to raise resilient girls.Overall, we want our daughters to own their voice and opinions, be confident in their thoughts and feelings, and to understand their worth and that it's not dependent on anyone else.Similar to boys, we want to avoid most of the gender stereotypes, including clothing, toys, and activities. We always want to model healthy relationships and gender roles/norms. How you structure your family and divide responsibilities is not what's most important, but instead how you talk about those roles and responsibilities is what will teach your kids how to think about these activities. It's very important that our girls learn that they are not responsible for the behavior of other people. This can start really small but grow as they age to make them responsible for the anger, sadness, violence, or assult of other people. Research has clearly demonstrated the impact social media has on our girls and their self esteem, mental health, and social well being. Research has also shown that basic education about how social media works can help protect our girls from the negative effects of social media as they enter adolescence.Subscribe, rate, and review us on Podchaser, Apple, or wherever you listen to podcasts!Follow us on social media to join the conversation!!!FacebookInstagram

Despite being in the grips of addiction, during the summer of 1987 Mötley Crüe managed to release their most commercially successful album to that point, "Girls, Girls, Girls". Not only did the album reach the #2 position on the sales charts in the US (Nikki Sixx claims the album should have been #1) they also managed to provide an anthem for strippers everywhere! Join us, along with special guest James Buckley, as we go track by track through this album discussing the stories behind each song and deciding whether is a rocker, a skipper or a song about strippers! After that we will decide how it matches up to Whitesnake's "1987". See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
